**********Transmission from deep space***********

After the 4,000 year civil war the Guilds have been suppressed and brought back into line by The Autarch. The Star System of Arisse is once again in the control of the Autarch and the Varangian Guard.

The Guilds have capitulated and are once again bound to the will of The Autarch. All worlds in the system of Arisse are once again open and secure. Outsiders are once again welcome.

All Hail The Autarch. All Hail the Varangian Guard.

Othello, Messenger of the Autarch

Glossary:

Navigator- Space faring being from the world of Neron in the System of Arisse. Their odd physical makeup along with the organ that they call the 'Hune' they are able to bend space around themselves. These beings are never seen without being totally encased in their armour or without their 'Device'. The Device is uaually attached to the forearm and give greater control of the 'Hune' allowing the Navigators to not only traverse space from planet to planet, but also from galaxy to galaxy and to manipulate Dark Matter.

The Navigators are monstrously powerful, but yet very vulnearable. They will only work together if forced to (by a Guildmaster or the Autarch) they will kill each other at the slightest hint of gain and they will never fight to the death or even risk becoming damaged, they are only motivated by their own self preservation and gain. They are cowardly, conniving and imperious. Fortunately their powerful technologies offer them a way to subjugate others or bribe others to do their dirty work. Numerically there are only one or two million Navigators in the entire system.

The Varangian Guard- Remnants of a race of Celestial Dragons, half dragons are the offspeing of the Celestial Dragons and other races harvest from around the Galaxy. Their Leader Vodalus, his two-thirds dragon blood makes him extremely dangerous. The Varangians some 3000 years ago struck a deal with the Autarch and became his personal army. The addition of the Autarch's technology to their own inherent abilities makes them very formidable indeed. There are only a few thousand Varangians left, but it is rumoured that the Autarch is developing a way to clone them, to retain their purity and awesome powers.

Thilites- A race of cannibal humanoids that inhabit the Arisse system. They make up a bulk of the systems population and are the main servants of The Navigators. They make up the general population and workforces and the Thilite Marines are very capable in battle. Thilites number in the hundreds of million and breed quickly.

The Guilds- The Navigators are collected into Guilds (With the exception of the Autarch) for safety and to pool resources. Each Guild has a standing army of about 1000 'Huscarls' that are well armoured and have honed their Navigator powers to subjugate weaker races.

The Guilds are as follows: The Merchants Guild, The Technicians Guild, The Engineers Guild, The Pilots Guild, The Messengers Guild, The Masons Guild and The Scribes Guild. Navigators that lose Guild membership do not survive very long.

The Autarch- Orginally a post created to settle disputes between The Guilds without bloodshed. The Autarch, however soon pooled vast power and resources by extorting The Guilds and then set off the civil war by mounting a campaign to subjugate them. The Autarch has recently prevailed and now rules over a fragile peace.

The Autarch has always had the support of the Engineers Guild, and with their help he built the Lagpunkt, an 11 square mile palace of viridium steel (an alloy of vanadium, iron and iridium, the favorite material of the Navigators, they make everything from armour to fabrics from it.) This palace is connected directly to The Autarch's armour and is in fact a giant weapon. This weapon is what finally won the civil war.

The Navigators, in depth-

The race known as the Navigators has been evolving for several hundred million years and in the last million years have been greatly changed through genetic modification.

The technologies of The Navigators hinges mainly on their ability to 'see' and to manipulate 'Dark Matter'. The main use for this is in their creation of Resonance Generators. By manipulating fields of soundwaves around a crystal core they can 'corral' dark matter to become tightly packed in a doughnut like area around the crystal core, Dark Matter packed into a close area exerts tremendous gravitational forces, and will cause the doughnut shaped 'mass' to spin and become virtually a perpetual motion machine. The primary energy generated is an electrical field generated by the spinning and can be harnessed through collection coils and can provide virtually unlimited energy so long as the crystal resonator remains 'tuned'.

A Resonance Generator that goes out of tune may simply cease functioning, or in rare cases actaully cause a gravitic anomaly such as a black hole, or a gravitational 'dimple' in the fabric of space. The Resonance Generators can be shut down and re-tuned fairly easily, due to the fact that the Navigators can in fact 'see' the dark matter at the core of the reaction and shut it down safely.

The Resonance Generator is used not only to create power plants, but also to create Gravitic Furnaces. A Resonance Generator that is not equipped with collection coils to absorb and channel the electrical discharge become very hot and dense. The Navigators use these 'furnaces' to create their favorite metal 'viridium steel'. Layers of high tensile steel, vanadium and iridium are fed into the furnace. The materials become instantly compressed and then molten, fusing them on the molecular level, resulting in the iridescent alloy viridium-steel. It is very light, strong and tensile, to the point that it can actually be turned into thread light enough to make garments from. The viridium steel is resistant to radiation, heat, cold and is perfect for most deep space appications.

The Navigators themselves have no need to construct space craft. By the virtue of their 'hune' they can create powerful magnetic fields around their bodies to protect them from the rigors of space or virtually any atmosphere. By using their hune in conjunction with The Device, they can create temporary spacial anomolies that allow them to 'fold' space and seemingly transport themselves instantly from point a to point b. A favorite battle tactic of Navigator Huscarls is to 'fold' themselves through an enemy vessel and appear inside, rendering conventinal space vessels useless against them. Fortunately The Navigators very rarely employ the Huscarls into battle (except against each other) and conventional fighinting falls onto the shoulders of the Thilite Marines.

The religious, social and sexual habits of The Navigators is unknown. With each other they communicate through the resonance of their hunes, which is also how they identify individuals. They communicate verbally through a computer that processes the hune's magnetic vibrations into speech, in a halting manner. It is not at all unusual for a Navigator to change his 'name' , verbal names and identification mean nothing to them and is only used for the convienance (or some say inconvienance) of other races.

Socially Navigators are loathe to be in each others company and generally surround themselves with other races, case in point is the Autarch. The Varangian Guard literally make a circle about the Autarch as he moves to keep other Navigators from getting close to him, not that they want to. The more Powerful a Navigator is the more alien and robotic attendents will between him and other Navigators.

Navigators are also very adept at building 'constructs' , basically robots with rudimentary AI that is suited for their specific task. These constructs range from fully articulate and thinking androids, to the tentacle like 'eyes' that dot the interior of the Autarch's Lagpunkt.

Religiously the Navigators do not even acknowledge any religions. Conversations on religion and ethics seem to absolutely mystify, bore and confound them. Such discussions can be used to effectively silence Navigators, as these matters appear so alien to them that they simply ignore such topics and either leave the conversation or continually move to change the subject.

The Varangians-

The Half-Dragon Varangians are the most powerful tool of The Autarch, a single Varangian can kill several Navigators and literally hundreds of Thilites.

The Varangians range from 5' all the way up to 12' and average right around 7'. Their strength, prowess and longevity depend on their purity. All Varangians appear to be human, Thilite or elven, they are distinguished by the fact that both pupils and cornea of their eyes are white, while the whites are generally couloured.

All Varangians have some form or breathe weapon, usually in the form of a chemical bile that ignites on contact with oxygen. Some may spit acid, or clouds of poisonous gas. Like their dragon ancestors the Varangians may 'transfix' opponents with their gaze, and the most powerful can even read minds, implant false memories and erase memories with those whom they lock gazes.

Even the weakest Varangians are enourmously strong and blindingly fast. They are descended from Celestial Dragons and are immune to the rigours of space and can travel between planets quite easily.

They generally prefer close combat, armed with blades of viridum steel, their fearsome roar make many run rather than face them and they can cut swathes through even heavily armoured opponents in little time. Their clothes are made from viridium steel fabrics and turn aside energy weapons and projectile weapons alike. Their hides are nearly as tough as their clothes and their ability to regenerate combined with thousands of years of longevity make them seem immortal.

The most powerful of the Varangians is their leader Vodalus and his daughter Idalus. Both are 3/4th or more dragon in their ancestry , Vodalus very rarely fights, his gaze is powerful enough to will a victims heart to stop beating and his fearsome plasma breathe can stream out in a cone nearly 100 yards long.

Vodalus is nearly as feared as the Autarch, and there are persistant rumours that the Autarch seeks to clone the Varangians to replace their depleted numbers and maintian purity among their lines.

The Thilites and Navigator Weaponry-

The Thilites are a race of cannibal humanoids that inhabit juast about every planet in the Arisse system. They are the main backbone of The Naviagtor's armed forces and work force.

Thilites average around 6'-6'8" in height and have a sturdy build giving them an average weight of around 200-300lbs.Thilites are sensitive to light and unlike their masters cannot manipulate space or survive in a hard vacuum. The Navigators have given them transportation and developed conventional weapons specifically for use by the Thilite Marines.

The typical Thilite Marine wears powered ceramite armour and carries a gyro-harness mounted railgun. Thilites are more than capable of hand to handf combat, their sharp jagged teeth can tear flesh easily and their saliva is poisonous to most other humanoids, their fingers are also endowed with talons that can easily rend flesh. Thilite Marines are quite the opposite of The Navigator Huskarls, they are brave, energetic and will attack even when grossly outnumbered. They do not fear death are nearly immune to pain and panic. Fortunately the Thilites are somewaht slow-witted and are slow to adapt to new tactics and technologies.

Currently they Thilites are equipped with several hundred transports and 10 AO Poseidon Light Cruisers (http://s6.invisionfree.com/International_Mall/index.php?showtopic=294) The Thilites are greatly prized by The Navigators and are treated rather well, The Autarch is currently having the Engineers Guild design and build new types of conventional weapons to aid them in their tasks. After all the more the Thilites do, the more The Navigators gain.

The primary static weapon of The Naviagtors is the Particle Acceleration Cannon, known as the 'Razer' These can be ship mounted, or mounted on a planets surface and come in many sizes, the largest being the 11 mile high central tower of the Lagpunkt. The larger the Razer, the more resonance generators that are needed to fire it.

The Razer operates like most particle accelerators. It fires a compressed cloud of ions using a magnetic field created by the coils of the barrel, additionally the Razer's munition is further compressed by the magnetic fields generated by the resonance generators and the ions do not disperse as readily as conventional accelerators and give a rather spectacular punch as the munition hits a solid target, triggering a chain reaction. Currently Razers are only mounted on planetary defence systems, the Navigators are not currently building warships, but they are working hard on a feasible design along the lines of the Poseidon, which impressed the Thilites greatly.

The Akarion-

The Planet Akrionius in the System of Arisse is home to the Akarion Sorcerers. This race of humanoids nominally ally themselves with the Autarch but have in the past also supported the Guilds against them.

Standing on average 6'-7' and weighing 120-210 lbs they are usually very thin and exceedingly graceful in movement. They appear to be human, with the exception of double and sometimes triple-lobed eyes. They claim to have the ability to be able to see 'astral space' and weave 'astral' energies to form spells. While it is certain that they display such powers as levitation, telekinesis and telepathy, it is uncertain what other powers they may possess.

The Akarion are seperated into two groups, Thrulls and Adepts. Thrulls are warriors, their equipment, style and skills vary with each individual and are far to numerous to make even general comments on. Adepts are the 'Sorcerors' and are very secretive and rarely seen. The fact that the Navigators have not exterminated them and allowed them much greater autonomy than the Thilites and the Guilds leads most to believe that they do indeed possess some magic or technology that is very valuable and either is or has been very useful to The Autarch.

The Akarion Thrulls were even exempted from fighting for The Autarch during the civil war, it is thought that they must have served The Autarch in some other way that suitably exempted them from serving in combat.

Engineers Guild begins development of a Thilite Cruiser-

The Dyan Class cruiser is currently under development by the Guild of Engineers. Although The Autarch still plans to purcahse more AO Poseidon Cruisers, He ultimately wants a ship built by the Navigators exclusively for the Thilites.

The Guild of Engineers Unveils the Voltaug Warship

The Guild of Engineers has developed for use by the Thilite Marines a command vessel that mounts greater destructive capabilities than the Dyan-XD Cruiser. The Voltaug is designed to be the primary surface attack ship and control ship for fleets of Dyan-XD Cruiser Fleet Control Groups.

The Voltaug measures 10,467 feet in length, 3,450 feet in width and measures 2,225 feet at it's thickest point. The power plant of the Voltaug is a Dark Matter Resonance Generator that powers four ATMOS anti-matter drives and a single Hyper-Space Fold Drive, that is capable of travelling hundreds of light years in several minutes. The Hyper-Space Fold drive can also generate a drive field that allows the Voltaug to transport up twenty Dyan-XD Cruisers with it during Hyper-Space Fold travel.

The Voltaug is armed with three Razer Particle Accelerator Cannons, each one 2,200 feet in length with a range of over 15,000 miles. It's secondary armaments include 25 particle cannons, 31 anti-matter torpedo launchers and 112 Disruptor point defence systems.

The Hull of the Voltaug is made of composite viridium steel that is layered into 48 inch thickness at all points. It also has a Disruption Field Generator that breaks up energy weapon attacks.

Each Voltaug operates with a crew of 225 and has an AI Construct to control the ship. Each Voltaug is commanded by a member of the Varangian Guard and has a compliment of 10 Navigator Huscarls backed by a compliment of 2,000 Thilite Marines.

The Voltaug can carry 5 MOBAT (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=405919) drones attached to it's underside.

Each of the Thilite Marine 11 Fleet Control Groups will have a Voltaug Warship to serve as a flag-ship. There will also be an additional 10 Voltaug's built for protection of the Arisse System.

EKS

The Navigators Guild, having developed the Faster Than Light ATMOS drive needed a term to rate the speed at which an ATMOS equipped ship travels. They settled upon EKS.

The ATMOS Drive (Anti-Matter Transformative Motion Off-setting System Drive) uses the energy produced by VOL antimatter powerplants to envelope the ship in an 'envelope' of energy. This energy is then excited to provide forward thrust at greater than the speed of light, applying force well in excess of the ships mass , and propelling it forward at great speeds according to the laws of motion. The ship once enveloped in it's field becomes an object in motion that only has the propelling force of the ATMOS drive acting upon it, allowing it to accelerate exponentially.

This acceleration is represented in EKS. One EKS is measured as 1,000 times the speed of light. Fast ships such as the Dyan-XD Cruiser is capable of speeds in excess of 10 EKS. Commericial ships like the MALUT are capable of only 5 to 6 EKS.
