Religion is largely not aloud forum in the government, as it is forced to live with the attitudes of those around them, however the Okyton empire does have an official religion which has not yet been recinded, this is a kind of king worship, giving the Emperor the status of a living god, in modern society however this is of no concequence.
Manarth
20-07-2004, 00:25
Manarth has it's own religion, that is rapidly expanding within our allies as well. Known as "Prophetism", in real life it would seem to be a mixture of Buddism and Islam.

The "Prophet" is considred by those of the Unitarian Prophetists to be a holy figure, who created a philosophy for life that is the best to live by. By the Orthodox Prophetists, however, he is considered to be the one true diety, that came down to Manarth to give his chosen people the "True Way" of life.

Various prophetetic speach is ingrained in Manarthian culture, even amoung the non-believers. "Prophet!" and "To the Prophetless Void with you!" are such expressions.

Religious Beliefs in Manarth are as follows:

Unitarian Prophetism: 32%
Atheist: 16%
Sunni Islam (Occupied territory): 13%
Orthodox Prophetism: 11%
Shi'ite Islam (Occupied territory): 10%
Anglican Christian (from ally CoC): 7%
Russian Orthodox Christian (from ally Edenstein): 3%
Other Christian Faith: 3%
Druidic (from HO): 3%
Other, Non-Christian Faith: 2%
Zexarn
20-07-2004, 00:37
Zexarn exists upon a large island, partially surrounded by reef. When a explorer's ship crashed on the reef, a chest with, among other items, a bible in it, washed onto the shore. After years of experimental translation, a vague translation was made. The denizens of the island decided that it was a message from God, so they created, based on the translation,(87% accuracy) a mixture of the Jewish and Christian faiths. 98.7% of the population subscribes to this religion.

The Holy Republic has an official religion dubbed 'Aliliahishness.' Something about a balance to everything, and giving respect to 'All,' or, 'Aliliah.' Something like that. Either way it's a huge part of the state, seeing as how the Religous head and Political head are one in the same. Other religions can co-exist in the state though due to the very pliability of the belief. Simply the religion is this-

'There's something out there, say thanks, live your life.'
Doomduckistan

Carlemnaria
20-07-2004, 09:50
the most widely held belief in carlemnaria is the nalanuthu
which means simply way or path in the mountains
its nearest equivelant in earth's mundane world would have
to be taoism. but to equate the too would be an oversimplifiction
unfair to both. the nalanotho or 'hidden way' also has its
fallowers. the nalanotho could be called perhapse a gnostic
form of nalanuthu. though once far more numerous isolated
communities of nalanotho are still to be found, building
their underground cities of twisting passageways.

there are of course every belief and none belief ever immagined
represented, though chauvanistic monothiestic ones are rare
and represent the smallest portion of the population
while second only to the nalanuthu is a more generalized
and nebulous sort of agnosticism. true athists also exist
though they, like their opposit extreme are relatively few
in number.

for numbers:

32% nalanuthu
24% agnostic
19% a kind of defacto ecuminical monothiesm

and as mentioned anything resembling christianity or islam
share the last couple of tenths of a percent

nearly all beliefs see nearly all other beliefs as good
and respect and revere each other's alters, grottos and groves

fanatacism and chauvanism of any sort are however, naturaly
enough, frowned upon, again by very nearly all.

According to the Articles of the Confederacy of Mattikistan, religious freedom is one of the inalienable human rights we live by. That said, most of our population choose not to be religious. The last National Census recorded the following:

Atheist: 75%
Christian (and all variants, e.g. Catholics): 15%
Judaism: 5%
Islam: 3%
Other: 2%

The majority of Jewish and Muslim religious peoples come from various refugees we have taken in over the years, some of whom decided to remain and become Confederacy citizens. The Other catagory includes all minor religions such as 'Wicca'.

The Most Serene and Pious Republic of Santa Sagissima is a religious state, administered by the Holy Order of Divine Wisdom. Even though we are mainly Catholic, due to the colonial period, the revolutionary unity and fervour of the peoples of our Islands, which but recently broke the back of imperialist domination of our lands, overcomes narrow sectarianism. Indeed, even though only 11% of our population follow purely indigenous creeds, the religious practice of almost all faiths is so imprinted by indigenous custom that the religious calendar of the different faiths coincide to a large degree with the traditional calendar of festivities. The Holy Order of Divine Wisdom, or Santa Sofia, is a radically democratic society, which for administrative purposes, is open to all religions.

Grazhkjistan
20-07-2004, 15:30
When the Republic of Grazhkjistan was founded in 1735 by Antonin Dvelyevic, he required that all people under his rule would be Russian Orthodox.

However, he was overthrown by "Supreme King and Deity " Yuri Golayaven, who demanded he be worshipped as a god, and publicly executed anyone who wouldn't comply.

When his son, Yuri II, was born, the people of Grazhkjistan were ordered to worship the boy as well. This went on for many generations.

However, since I killed Yuri XXVIII myself, and took control of this country, I have disbanded the "Golayavents". Everyone in Grazhkjistan is now Russian Orthodox once again.

About 65% of the population follow the old pagan religion. It is similar to the Norse religion with some minor differences. Many of the rest are atheists or agnostics, and after that it is split between various forms of christianity (all of them modified to get Callisdrunian converts, i.e. rules on such things as sexual morality have been relaxed or dropped) the largest of these being Catholicism. Unitarian Universalism is quite popular, more so than any actual religion besides the old pagan one. There are groups of followers of Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and Judaism as well.

It is taken as an established fact among Wyrms and some dragons that they were created from a common ancestor by the First Dragon. Scientific and thaumaturgical research actually provides some basis for this statement.

However, any attempt to worship the First tends to result in spontaneous combustion of whatever temples or shrines are involved. Apparently, She does not like being worshipped.

I would tell you to ask 16th century Jews living in Spain about that, or any of the women who have been put to the stake over the years, or maybe even the "heretics" who have also been burned alive. Lets not forget the corruption, "hey I spent all the churches funds sooooo for the low price of ten gold coins step right up and get PERMANENT absolution from all you sins those already committed and those you will someday commit." says Pope Leo the X (10th for those of you who don't know your numerals).

BTW Vatican City looks ok today BECAUSE IT IS A TOURIST ATTRACTION. It might look worse if all the burned and tortured bodies that the church has "racked" up over the years were put on display.

But that put aside my statement was a jab at ALL Theocracies.

Hey, so would Berlin if all the bodies of those slain in the Holocaust were displayed.

Or in Sydney, the corpses of an ENTIRE RACE [Tasmanians] that the government authorised the murder of.

Or in Washington, with all the American Indians killed to fufill the 'Manifest Destiny'.

etcetera... And on and on...

My point is, that all organizations have skeletons in their closet. However, the Catholic Church commited those atrocities in a time before the modern world was really taking shape. Whereas the top three examples all occured in the 'modern' era.

And I don't see The Pope executing anyone much these days...

There is no official religion, and the government is officially secular (not atheist, secular, there's a difference). However, religion does play a very important role in society. Religion does play some role in the government, as membership of the lowest house of the legislature is divided up by religion and race to ensure that all have a say in the government.

As for the breakdown, slightly more than half are evangelical Christians. There are significant minorities of Catholics, Jews, Muslims, non-religious, mainline Protestants and Buddhists. Traditiional Native Ytovian animistic beliefs are starting to make a bit of a comeback.
