The screech of crepuscule birds is disturbed by the sound of heavy motors as two APCs pull into a street in the outer suburbs of Kaohshiung. The APCs were ex-Army and were part of the newly equipped police force, with a sleek navy paintjob and optimised for street manuvering.
The two APCs pull to a stop outside what appeared to be a fairly modern building as the first rays of light rise over the horizon. The streets were still foggy and the air was humid from the day before, when thunderstorms had swept the city. Four policemen alight from the APCs and head to the door marked "Taiwanese Civil Liberties Association". They knock loudly, waiting a few seconds for a response.
Silence. They knock again. "Open up, we have a subpoena."
"Hello? Who is this?" a voice through the door said.
It was Jiang Li, the leader of the Taiwanese Civil Liberties Association. Due to recent government tax bills, he couldn't afford the rent anymore and thus was forced to live at the workplace.
"This is the Police. Your premises are now government property. Please vacate immediately. You have one hour."
"W-What is this? Let me see that subpoena."
...The courts hereby order the Taiwanese Civil Liberties Association to surrender all assets to the government of the Republic of China as payment for outstanding tax dues....
"You can't do this!" Jiang yelled. "Get f**** you fascist mother F******"
The door was slammed into the policeman's face.
"Dear sir," the policeman said, "If you look outside the window please."
Jiang turned. He saw the APCs and began to break a cold sweat.
"I'm truly sorry sir. Please take the path of least resistance."
The policeman muttered a few swear words after that, and something about regretting his decision at the election.

A week later, the former TCLA headquarters was converted into a United China Party office.
