Bedistan hold Champions to draw

In the first game of the U-21 championship, defending champions Jeruselem were held to 2-2 draw to Bedistan. In their group A, Bedistana and Jeruselem are the top dogs and both teams showed they will be competitive after solid defenses held out marauding attacks from midfield.

Like, oh my God! We actually won a game! Another of those and we will have done better in two games then Monserrat have done in their entire existence. Of course we don't expect to stay top, especially since we're playing Jerusalem next (am I correct in thinking they are defending champions?). As far as I'm concerned anything now is a bonus.

P.S. Doesn't Jerusalem mean a 2-2 draw, or am I reading this incorrectly?

In an unexpected event, the Cubs successfully held the defending U21 champions from Jeruselem to a 2-2 draw. BFA president Javier McGuire has openly praised the team after this performance, giving our notoriously shabby record in the U21 championships. "Drawing with the champions has to be a sign that this is our year," he said. Some news agencies have disputed the score, with many claiming the score was in fact 1-1, despite the fact that both teams surely put a goal into the appropriate nets deep into stoppage time at the end of the game, in addition to the goal each had already scored. Nevertheless, the BFA is reportedly conducting an investigation into the matter.

The next match is against Ebon Hawk, who lost to Maserrat 2-1 in their first match.

Final score:
Bedistan 2 (17, 90+3)
Jeruselem 2 (35, 90+4)

[Sorry, no roster. It'll come within a week and a half, even though I'll probably be eliminated by then. :P]

The U21 Strike Birds continue their abysmal ways as they lost to a complete unknown 2-0. They are so unknown we don't even know who plays for them, much less who scored those goals.

The rumors are flying that U21 coach Segnor Segnol is now very seriously in trouble for his job unless he can pull out 2 wins in the rest of the group.

Meanwhile, the World Cup gears up for the knockout rounds starting today.

Gales grab a point!!

In their long delayed opening match in the under-21 WC, the Halfassed Gales faced off against the NEWI Cefn Druids.

Time was when this kind of fixture would have been regarded as a gimmie 3 points, but after the disaster that was the Gales last run out and the subsequent trouble the Hurricanes had in the doomed WC qualifing attempt, the team were just hoping for a decent result to start the campaign.
They got it.

Despite conceeding an early goal, the Gales showed grit and a passion that has been sorely lacking from the national teams displays for the past few years.

Bryan David, cousin of former Hurricanes goalie James, headed the equaliser on the half-hour mark and the same player put the Gales ahead just before the break with a tap in after a goal mouth scramble.

A blistering double strike in the 67th and 69th minutes put the young Druids back in charge, before David completed a great hat-trick with another instintive goal poachers finish when a Crooks strike rebounded off the post.

Next up for the Gales are one of the favorites for the cup Audioslavia, who got off to a winning start beating Ruslana 1-0

Coach Terry Mangione shook his head again for the second night in a row. Instead of an exasperated expression after another lackluster practice session, it was in wonderment after a victory over sporting rivals Krytenia, 4-2 in Sarzonia's debut in the Under 21 World Cup.

"That was quite a performance," Mangione said. "Our senior national side is very familiar with Krytenia, so this was sort of a renewing of a rivalry."

The Under 21 side became the second Sarzonian national team to win in its international debut. The senior side upset top-seeded Crystilakere in its first-ever match 3-2.

Forward Kenny Cooper scored the first hat trick in Sarzonian football history with a penalty kick in the 12th minute, a header off a corner from midfielder Valentin Kienzl in the 33rd minute, and in the 58th minute after a run following a stripping a Krytenian defender at midfield. An own goal provided the Stars with a 4-0 lead in the 65th minute.

"It feels good to get the goals, but we're here to win games, not look pretty," Cooper said. "Valle sent me a great cross from the left sideline. I was surprised he hit it so well because he's a right-sided player, but it was perfectly placed."

Krytenia tried to get back into to the match with two quick goals, in the 69th minute off a direct free kick from outside the box, and in the 79th minute after an errant clear from goalkeeper Mark Tanner.

"I should have taken a little more time with that," Tanner said, still disgusted with himself in spite of the win and the first place standing in the group. "I wanted to kick-start the attack, but I learned my lesson for next time."

'Flashing Blades' start off with appaling loss
Opening Match Defeat Curse strikes for the fourth time in a major tournament

Thanks to an outstanding performance in U21WC3 where they reached the second round in the debut tournament, Starblaydia's U21 team has completely changed since that fateful tournament. While the rising stars have moved up into the senior side for Cup of Harmony experience and World Cup squadlists for the future, the new youngsters have large boots to fill. They haven't quite filled them yet.

Opening the tournament to debutants of Wizardman, commentators have predicted that the Starblaydi youth policy points to a table-topping side in Group D this year. Something special will have to happen after this defeat, however.

Wizardman teenager Balthazar the Magnificent opened the scoring with a scorching fireball of a shot from fifteen yards that Basian Valley FC youth teamer Markus Cragg just couldn't reach. Soon after some aptly-described Wing-Wizardry from Lethys the Green, Lord of Land and Creatures, put the Wizardmen two up as his magical footwork led to a cross-cum-shot that sailed in off the far post past the stranded Cragg.

Depsite Starblaydia's best effort for the remainder of the game, it seemed like some kind of Sorcerous Shield of Warding had been placed in from of the Wizardman net, with none of the Flashing Blades looking like scoring. Eventually, after the application of the "magic sponge", along with some foul-mouthed words of power and not a few one- and two-fingered gestures, hard-hitting Halad Reavers' striker Eomer Hall broke the spell of poor shots and smashed the ball home for 2-1.

Starblaydia's fate seemed sealed however, as Wizardman substitute Oz came on with some sorcerous skills and weaved his way through the seemingly hypnotised defenders to make it three and end a horrid match for Starblaydi fans.

Final Score:
Starblaydia U21 1 - 3 Wizardman U21

An amazing game by the Streeter Apprentices have suddenly given them and outside chance of qualifying for the second round in the Under 21 World Cup. After the last disgrace, where minnow Mikele won 3-2 over a bunch of Human Premiership and D'gaiz'nigh K'druz'ba B'zugda'hiara players, the Streetians have decided to turn to youth. An intensive programme have been started, targetting about 60 players from the age of 15 in an attempt to phase them into top clubs. And it has worked - Crustskimmer and Jonathan Havell are among the stars of the domestic league, while all the others have made appearances in the top two divisions - but still, the opponents are more than fearsome. In the last U21WC, Vilita knocked out the young Orange-Blues by 3-2, Tanah Burung by 1-0 after extra-time and Kingsford by 2-0 in the semis before losing 3-4 to Jeruselem in the final. Brazillico got knocked out by Kingsford on penalties in the second round after going through unbeaten in the group stage, while our last opponents, Raptor Claw, did not play but nevertheless have a team that know how to fight and bite.

Well, to the game - it was an excellent match, despite the scoreline only being 1-0. Marasent Sioane and Calaesa Mitaroka were the two stars of the centre midfield, and Peter Gait had his work cut out trying to fight them - especially since Alpine-vociferous tended to play as a third striker instead of an attacking midfielder. When supported by Umberto Melli, things got really nasty for Gait, but luckily the central back line cooperated well. Lars Fearinciter and Bjornir Bearhugger are shaping up to become a good central-defense squad - even though Fearinciter is regarded of somewhat a traitor by most dwarfs in Cockbill Street, having been the first dwarf to play for Jotneheim Mountains, the most traditional troll club there is.

However, even those couldn't prevent Mitaroka on top form. His one-two-three passes with Sioane and Melli eventually brought a huge chance to him after 19 minutes, being alone with keeper Havell, who magnificently fisted it over the bar. Only five minutes later, Serge DuPont got up well to a free-kick, but again Jonathan Havell showed his class - the reason he's been a regular for Vimesbairn Athletic this season.

Later in the half, the Apprentices fought back. Wing attacks were useful, particularly on the left, where Graham Rogers frequently found himself very alone after dribbling past the not exactly top-class (defending-wise, anyway) Tanner Nerni of the Jungle Cats. Enlisting the help of left-back Scott Walker, this became an easy task for Rogers, who often had thirty or forty yards to run in behind Nerni. He also decided that crosses into the box were futile, as the Jungle Cats had three tall men in the central defense, so he tried to cut into the centre instead. This worked on one or two occasions, and his brilliant through ball to Steinhard Stonelover nearly gave the Apprentices 1-0, but his shot was very well held by the keeper, Jimmy Kater.

In the second half, the Apprentices took more and more over as the stamina of the young Jungle Cats faltered. Clearly, the professional approach taken to these players had helped, as their physique seemed superior. A cheeky trick from substitute striker James Gruddinge eventually did the job for the Street, seeing off the sweeper Esemar Aliana and resulting in a free shot at goal. Jaloey Afrikka desperately tried to throw himself in the way, getting a head touch to it, but it only steered out of reach for Kater and into the back of the net. After 70 minutes, the Apprentices had got the 1-0 lead, and the Jungle Cats looked very tired.

Two genius substitutions by Baron O'Toole, the 34-year-old manager of the young Jungle Cats, nearly swung the game back into Vilitan hands. Jan Christiansen, who scored seven goals in 19 games for the league champions Yeaddin Owls last season, came on for the ineffective Hluali Mijatos, while Carmine Mbidzo came on for Umberto Melli in an attempt to throw everything forward. Despite losing some creative midfield strength, Christiansen and Mbidzo had some amazing opportunities to score made out of nothing, and were within a gnat's whisker and Havell's gloves of scoring. Three times Havell and the posts saved the Apprentices, and they were lucky to scrape off a 1-0 win against last year's runners-up. Still, a great start to the competition, and if the Street could gain a point from Brazillico in the last game, they'd be virtually assured of qualification.

Progressive Draw
The derby between the young Orange-Blues and their FIFA rivals from Kaze Progressa ended 2:2. The high number of ligatanian players surprisingly did not cause a severe loss in quality. The Progressans played in their traditionally rather offensive style of match and interfered early. The young Orange-Blues concentrated mainly on defense, but Jenji Y and Vanik Maru had several good chances and in the 30th minute, took the lead in a counter attack. Much action happened in the midfield or in the rejistanian half and so a defensive error could easily be capitalised by Relaita Bentipaz three minutes before half time. The second half started with some good chances of the Progressans and eventually, Cozii-Danila'he brought the Progressans ahead. Siladu Himi reached he ball with his fingertips but could not get it or tip it over the bar. He can be happy, that the goal was not counted as own goal for him. The Rejistanians attacked sometimes, but until the 80th minute, the Progressan defense could spoil all chances (and the fact that a Progressan defense existed shows how much the team changed from the team of young Faiwe Irafma's and suicidal attack). In the 80th minute, Lyku Hiji shot a corner kick, Nana Tiki (substituted in in the 65th minute) was at the right place at the right time and his header was unreachable for the Progressan goalie.

The score:
Rejistania 2 (Maru 30th,)
Kaze Progressa 2 (Bentipaz 43rd, Cozii-Danila)

Rookies upstage veterans in Group A

In a shock defeat, Bedistan lost to Ebon Hawk 3-2 and Maserrat held champions to a 1 ALL draw. This left the two rookies leading group A while Bedistan was last.

Jeruselem's 1-1 draw with Maserrat left Jeruselem needing to win soon after two draws. Bedistan is in trouble after it's unexpected loss.

Rejistania beats Sarzonia 3-2

After flying high in a 4-2 win over Krytenia, the Stars came back to Earth in a 3-2 setback at the hands of Rejistania.

The loss drops Sarzonia into third place with one more match to go in the first round of the U21 tournament.

"We're disappointed and angry that we lost last night," Coach Terry Mangione said following the match. "We can't afford to be as lax defensively as we were the last two matches. We have to pick things up in the defensive half of the pitch."

Goals from striker Kenny Cooper (his fourth in two match days) in the 22nd minute and midfielder Valentin Kienzl in the 87th minute weren't enough to offset two criticial mistakes by reserve goalkeeper Horace Sandt, playing because starter Mark Tanner had to attend to family matters. Sandt was caught upfield attempting to clear a ball when a Rejistanian defender chipped it over his head for an easy goal. He also froze on a move by a Rejistanian forward for an easy goal.

"Depending on Mark's family situation, he'll be back in net next match," Mangione said. "Horace hasn't played very much and it showed this match. Hopefully if we have to start him next match, he'll be a lot better."

"I've talked to Coach and Mark about the match. I got embarrassed out there," Sandt said. "I've got to do better if we're going to win this next match."

Mangione dismissed the thought that a draw might be enough.

"If the other match is a draw, we won't have enough points," Mangione said. "We have to get the full three points [for a victory]. Nothing else will be good enough."

Regional Rivals held, Starblaydia U21 get first point
First point gained for Starblaydia who must beat Oaker to stand a chance

A not bad performance against fellow Atlantian Oceaina regioners Crystilakere earned Starblaydia a draw. Karl Robertson, who makes up the youngest striking-partnership in the Starblaydi Alpha Division with up-and-comers Iskara Daii, opened the scoring with a well-taken drive on the hour. However Crystilakere equalised with fifteen minutes to go.

The cruical match, however, is next against Oaker. Starblaydia must win that match, and hope that Crystilakere do not beat Wizardman. This is the only way that Starblaydia can make it into the top two of the group, thereby qualifying for the next round and equalling last time's performance in U21WC3.

Final Score:
Crystilakere U21 1 - 1 Starblaydia U21

Goalfest against Sarzonia
The young Orange-Blues are normally not known for anything like an offensive style of match and so the System Imdila which they played against Sarzonia was considered as a pretty offensive formation. The fact that Sese'he and Y'he never played together was surely one of the reasons why the young Orange-Blues lacked good chances in the first half, while the Sarzonics attacked fiercely and capitalised one of their numerous chances in the 20th minute. 5 minutes before the end of the first half, Jisu Jetta made an tactical substitution: Inik Sese was replaced by Kalisimu Salan player Nidiysija Ki. By changing to the known System Jesejil, the young Orange-Blues improved. In the second half, Jenji Y managed to equalise the score only seconds after the match started again. Sarzonic fans shouted: 'GODMOD', but it didn't help, only three minutes later, a mistake of the Sarzonic defense allowed Y'he to bring the Orange-Blues ahead. Sarzonia responded by a suicidal all-out-attack. This gave the young Orange-Blues good chances for counter attacks and in the 52nd minute, Jenji Y was able to score his first hat trick in an international match. Sarzonian fans shouted 'GODMOD' or 'ALAN BELMORE' at deafening volume. Kienzl'he (despite the name not related to Lovisa) archieved the 3:2 for Sarzonia in the 87th minute in a late attack.

The score:
Rejistania 3 (Y 45th, 48th, 52nd)
Sarzonia 2 (Cooper 20th, Kienzl 90+4th)

In unrelated news, it was revealed that Jenji Y's father is not Hetiri Y, who is the husband of his mother, but an Belmorian only known as 'Alan Belmore'.

Sarzonians sent packing after quarterfinal loss

Coach Terry Mangione assembled the Sarzonian U21 national team two days after it was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the U21 championship with a 5-3 loss to the Weegies. The team's offense certainly was up to the task, scoring 11 goals in the round robin and 14 in four matches. However, the defense betrayed the Stars.

"We can't win tournaments when we completely ignore defense," Mangione said. "It just can't happen. You saw what happened out there. Our backline was a shambles, the midfield didn't come back to help and by the second half, we had to focus completely on our attack to have any chance of coming back."

Starting goalkeeper Mark Tanner tweaked his hamstring late in the Stars' 5-3 win over Kaze Progressa and, despite finishing the match, was unable to go in the match against The Weegies. Reserve goalkeeper Horace Sandt also contributed to the team's defensive problems with poor positioning.

"He's going to learn with experience," Mangione said. "We have one or two young goalkeepers coming up the pipeline who may challenge for his spot though. We can't be caught without depth in goal."

Sandt declined to speak with the media after the match.

Crystils still unbeaten after Audioslavia test

The Crystils moved on to the Quarter Finals of the Fourth World Cup Under 21 Championship after a penalty shootout victory over tournament favorites Audioslavia. The impressive victory came after a hard-worked goalless draw over 120 minutes of action, marking the Crystils 4th consecutive draw, following qualifying draws with Oaker, Wizardman and Regional Rivals Starblaydia to qualify for the second round. In the Starblaydia match, Karl Robertson opened the scoring for the North Eastern Atlantian Oceania nation, before the Regional Delegates struck back fifteen minutes from time through Crystili prospect Attacking Midfielder Niiariki Nonaaia. The draw would set the tone of the tournament for the young Crystils who now face the winner of the Ebon Hawk vs. Lovisa match in the Quarter Finals.

Starblaydia dumped out at Group Stage by atrocious referee
Referee Henry Tuck a "A mockery of a sham of a travesty of a parody of a farce of a ref."

This is, without doubt, the worst piece of officiating in the history of officialdom. The Kingsford Referee Henry Tuck proved just why Starblaydi fans rank him as the number 154th-best referee in the world as he disallowed 2 (two) perfectly fine Starblaydi goals, along with allowing 1 (one) insanely illegal Oaker goal.

"Thats a 4-1 win to us nine times out of ten," said a highly placed source on the Starblaydi U21 staff, "Karl (Robertson) has been denied a glorious hat-trick today, and we're not happy about that at all."

Karl Robertson scored the first goal of the match as he broke the offside trap from a lovely chip by Michael Hawthorne, dinking the ball past the goalie with consumate ease. Starblaydi fans went wild three minutes later as he volleyed in from 20 yards on a swift counter attack. Tuck, however, looked to his 'assistant' running the line, who, despite being twenty yards behind the play, gave the attack as offisde. Video replays conclusively prove that Robertson was at least a yard onside.

Oaker U21 soon scored their 'fraudulent' goal of the match, as one stiker pushed over seventeen-year-old centre-back Paul Nicholson, the other leapt unchallenged to nod it past the marooned Markus Cragg. Despite the best protests of the defence, Tuck allowed the equalising goal to stand.

Starblaydia came out of the blocks in the second half with and explosion of deadly purpose. Attack after attack on the Oaker net followed, and eventually one got through, as some neat footwork by Mikael Tissot on the edge of the box allowed him to turn and knock the ball in off the inside of the post.

Starblaydi's went mad as they thought they'd sealed qualification with a third goal, but again it was ruled out, this time for a foul by Robertson as the last defender fell over easier than a house of cards in a gale. Robertson was promptly booked for his protestations.

With just three minutes to go, Starblaydia were looking edgy. So edgy, in fact, that Oaker scored again from a corner, with their centre-back rising highest at the near post to flick it into the net.

Referee Henry Tuck had to be shielded from incoming missiles by riot police, and reports of Starblaydi fans going on the rampage and turning over cars are said to be 'exaggerated'. The one piece of hope we can take from this game is that nine of the starting eleven will be 21 or under when U21WC5 comes around, and they'll certainly be ready to wreak some revenge in the tournament.

See you in four years...

Vilita (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/target=display_nation/nation=vilita) 0 - 1 Cockbill Street
( -none- )- ( Afrikka 70.og)

The Jungle Cat u21's opening match of the 4th u21 WC was set to be an exciting affair. The Jungle Cats had now overachieved in 3 consecutive competitions, Finishing Runners-up in the Previous u21 World Cup, then, Winning the 14th Cup of Harmony, and qualifying for the WC15 Finals.. By qualifying for the WC15 Finals, the Jungle Cats were not entered into the 15th Cup of Harmony to defend their title, so all the focus was on the youthful under-21's. Vilita (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/target=display_nation/nation=vilita) entered as favorites in the group, even expected to win over Brazillico, the only team that defeated the Jungle cats on their run to the final in the last u21 World Cup.

The match started out an exciting affair, with both sides going close early. Jaloey Afrikka, the Jlinal Cove FC starlet making his first ever start in a Jungle Cat uniform, collected a short goal kick from Strike FC's Jimmy Kater, to begin an amazing piece of playmaking by the youthful Vilita (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/target=display_nation/nation=vilita) ns. Afrikka took the ball to half way, where he found the impressive Calaesa Mitaroka, straying from his usual Left-sided position for Stellar Division champs Yeaddin Owls, to control the middle for the u21 nationals. Mitaroka strolled through the center, easily bypassingGait, who was his only opposition with the ambitious Alpine-Vociferous already well behind the play. Then, a charging Serge DuPont caught the eye of Mitaroka, who slipped the ball just out of Fearinciter's reach. DuPont connected gloriously with Mitaroka's set-up, but groaned to see his effort crash so loudly off the bar, that play had to take a breather on the next out for the grounds crew to ensure it hadnt been cracked.

Minutes later, Mitaroka himself would spurn a golden opportunity, firing over with only the Cockbill Street keeper Jonathon Havell to beat. Havell was put into action soon after after DuPont connected with an Umberto Melli freekick, but saved well to keep the scores level. Tanner Nerni's inexperience almost cost the Jungle Cats u21 side when Graham Rogers, who out worked the Cednia Beach AFC Prospect only to see Kater save well from Stonelovers poke shot.

A Second half streaker unsettled the game, and most notably the Jungle Cat defense, still easily embarrassed trying to impress the ladies at the pub after the game, the streaker began dancing circles around defenders Jaloey Afrikka and Esemar Aliana. Afrikka looked distinctly unsettled from the experience, and had to be comforted by team elder Umberto Melli before play resumed. However, the 21-year old Melli could not do enough to re-settle the exciting Jlinal Cove defender, as he found him self on the wrong end of the scoresheet 20 minutes from time, redirecting a James Gruddinge shot out of Kater's reach and putting the Streeters 1-0 up.

Despite the introduction of new Cednia Beach signing Carmine Mbidzo, and Jan Christiansen, the replacement for the departing German Salomon at Stellar Division champions Yeaddin Owls, the Jungle Cats u21 side were unable to break through the Cockbill Street forcefield, and left with it all to do in the u21 World Cup.

Where was Y'he, Mr. Jetta?
The Orange-Blues lost the first match of the second round against the young Gools from Mattigool. The Orange-Blues never defeated Mattigool in their entire history despite two matches in the group stage of WC15. The start of the match was delayed because Jenji Y, the young half-belmorian striker, could not be found. No one had an idea where he was. When Jetta'he tried to phone Y'he's family in complete and utter desperation, it came out, that the number was not assigned, that even the adress, Jenji Y has said that he lived in didn't exist, so he could not find out the number of the family. The match started 15 minutes too late and without Jenji Y.
To tell a bad story quick: The young Orange-Blues were veritabily trashed. Only the fast reflexes of Siladu Himi and the fact that the young Gools defended for most of the 2nd half was the reason why the score was not a double digit trashing. Then, suddently, Jetta'he's cell phone rang. Jenji Y ws found in a toilet in the hotel, tied up in Mattigool fan scarfs. In the 89th minute, Jenji Y arrived and replaced Inik Sese. 30 seconds later, he scored the first goal for Rejistania. The referee ended the match after exactly 90 minutes, and many people think that that nis the reason, why Rejistania did not win.

So Did We Make It to the Semifinals, or Didn't We?
Bedistan football fans wake up to huge surprise

After defeating Maserrat 3-1 to make it into the knockout stages of the U21 Championship, the Cubs, Bedistan's U21 team, just squeaked by Esth (whom some people initially thought was a misspelling of Eauz) 4-2 on penalties after drawing 2-all in regular play. The team would face another new team in the quarterfinals by the name of Wizardman, and the scoreline was (in a sense) the same, with Bedistan's attackers coming out in full force and managing to win the match 4-2. As far as this reporter can remember (which isn't very far, mind you), this marks the Cubs' first appearance in the semifinals, where we face the winner of Ebon Hawk v Crystilakere.

Vilita (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/target=display_nation/nation=vilita) 4 - 4 Raptor Claw
( Stokks 52, Mitaroka 81, Nerni 88, Sioane 88 - ( Raptor 12,29,36p,68)

The Jungle Cat u21's entered their match with Raptor Claw knowing they needed a win to take a realistic chance of qualification into the final matchday against Brazillico. What they did not expect was an inexperienced, but fiesty Raptor Claw side fighting in a seemingly All Out Attack mode against their higher ranked opponents.

Starting with only 3 Defenders on the field, The Raptors were pressing Jimmy Katers goal from the outset, and took just 12 minutes to finally break through. it was not until 25 minutes in that the Jungle Cats u21 would have their first chance on goal, but Mijatos spurned a decent opportunity from 18 yards by powering into the grandstands. The Raptors built well from the ensuing goal kick, and earned 4 consecutive corners, converting the 4th to go 2 goals up on the half hour mark. And it was just 6 minutes later that Vilita found themselves 3 goals down, after the tiring Afrikka brought down a Raptor in the box and conceded the penalty. The event must have been a downer for Afrikka, who had been playing well despite claiming the deciding own goal in the loss to Cockbill Street.

The second half started brighter for Vilita, following a defensive minded substitution, Umberto Mello coming off in favor of utility player Antonis Ratuva of newly promoted Declasse side Jlinal Wanderers making his internationstatal debut. The Jungle Cats got on the scoresheet when Malovar Stokks, recently transferred to Marine Coast United from Declasse Division side Arcticala Inlet, netting his first career u21 goal 7 minutes into the half. His strike was cancelled out 15 minutes, when Raptor Claw regained their 3 goal lead through a well taken free kick.

As the match entered the final 10 minutes, Coach Baron O'Toole again showed mastery in substitution, controlling an attacking switch by replacing the overworked Afrikka with Attacking Midfield Musa Nikiema of Lower-League side Jaguar Moreda, and calling to the experience of Yeaddin Owls frontman Jan Christiansen. Nikiema, also in his internationstatal debut, would make an instant impact, Finding Mitaroka on the edge of the box, and the 19 year old would give the Raptor Claw keeper no chance with his superbly placed shot. As time pushed on, the Raptors seemed content to site on their 4-2 advantage, but the Jungle Cats had other ideas.

Aliana's Right Wing cross careemed heavily off one of the Raptors, and powered into Compound Interest Referee Makalawta Nui~E's arm, knocking his watch to the pitch where it was stomped on by at least 3 players in the ensuing fight for the ball. The ball broke to Tanner Nerni who had all the time from just 12 yards, and easily slotted home to bring the Jungle Cats within one. The referee, distracted by the scoring of the goal, lost placement of his watch, and began relying on the mega-tron time clock. He recorded the time of the Nerni goal as 88 minutes, as the large scoreboard had indicated. From the ensuing kickoff, the Jungle Cats easily dispossessed the now nervous Raptors, and built up another exciting attack. Minutes later, Sioane was able to find space and completed the Jungle Cat comback. To his dismay, Nui~E looked up to see the time on the scoreboard still read 88 minutes, and later learend that the board had said 88 minutes all match long as someone had unplugged it prior to match start, and plugged it back in without re-programming it. It is unknown whether or not the 4th Vilitan goal actually was scored within the 90 minutes, but it is believe that Referee Nui~E mis printed his application and really calls Abysmalistan his home.

( DuPont 47 )- ( Brazillico 20,41,62,72)

Knowing they needed not only a Victory over the Brazillico side that provided their only group stage defeat in the previous Under 21 Championships, along with an unprobable Victory for Raptor Claw over Cockbill Street, the Vilitan side realized their chance of qualification was slim.

This realization was ever present in the calibre of Jungle Cat play all night long against Brazillico, with Serge DuPont's impressive individual effort at the start of the second half one of the few shining points for the Vilitan side. A Brazillico brace either side of DuPont's goal gave the FIFA Regional Founders the 4-1 victory to finish Atop the group standings, continuing the Vilitan u21 record of consecutive defeats to Brazillico alive, at least until the next Championships. The result did not matter however, has Raptor Claw failed to beat Cockbill Street, so even a Victory would not have seen the Defending u21 Runners Up through to the second round.

Vilita (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/target=display_nation/nation=vilita) Welcomes TEN to Slani Embassy
Slanitopia opens its doors for underachieving teams

The Vilitan Football Association has formally invited the defeated Eagles Nest u-21 side to join them at the Vilita Embassy in Slanitopia until they are allowed back into TEN. The Vilitan FA is saddened by the fate of the TEN players in their matches against the Pupu Pudu national team, and thinks it would be good for both sides if they could see that they were not the only Nation left rueing the Ghost of Margaret following the Under-21 Group Stage. Vilita is currently the only Nation with an Embassy in Slanitopia, However more land is available upon reslaniquest.

Cubs in U21 final, possibility of Terranordalis region taking both World Cup and U21 championship

Crystilakere was the next team to fall to the unexpected prowess of the Bedistan Cubs in Total n Utter Insanity with a 2-1 loss to the latter. Celebrations erupted throughout the States to celebrate our nation's second appearance in a championship match, though these celebrations were drowned out by celebrations over winning the World Cup in Commerce Heights to our west. Still, even though our neighbors may have beaten us to that Cup (grr!), it is possible that our under-21s can achieve the glory that the senior squad could not. Mattigool v Pudu will decide which team we will play against in the final match.

Final score:

Is there any hope?

With the current worrying downturn in Halfassed footballing fortunes, the countries eyes were on the CoH and Under-21 events while the rest of the world watches the main event.
The CoH offered some hope for the immediate future as the team progressed well throughout the tournament only to fall 3 minutes short of a place in the final itself.
On the other side of the world*, the Under-21 side went into battle and gave us a glimpse of the longer term future. It doesn't look great! Ok so they did manage to avoid collecting the wooden spoon again, but the Gales once again failed to record a victory and dropped out of the running at the first stage.
Plans for further expansion of the HFL from its current 10 team format may offer a broader base of players, but some feel that it will just encourage an influx of overseas players into the domestic game.
This writer is not sure, but I do feel that something needs to change if the Halfassedstates name is to be seen as a challenge once again!

*NB: Not necessarily 'exactly' the other side of the world, but you know what I meant!

Cubs win Under-21 Championship

TOTAL N UTTER INSANITY -- Going into the final match of this year's under-21 championships, many of the Cubs, Bedistan's national U21 team, were rather frightened about their opponent. Was it Jeruselem? No. Audioslavia? No. Squornshelous, who kicked us out of the World Cup? No. It was in fact a nation totally new to the sport, one by the name of Pudu. But the fact that these newcomers had made it all the way to the final match was quite scary, and the Cubs were afraid of humiliation.

So instead of being humiliated, they played their finest football ever. Taft and Griswold made up the big scoring duo (names finally released to the press after the big win), coming up with two goals each before Pudu could retaliate. The Bedistani defense got a bit cocky at this point, with goalkeeper Hertz letting two goals through, but not long before the end, a Pudu defender mis-stepped and sent the ball backwards through his own net to seal the victory for the Cubs.

This marks Bedistan's first international sporting championship ever, and combined with Commerce Heights' World Cup victory, means both events were swept by nations from our region. Non-stop partying has been happening for several hours now, from Port Lusambo all the way to San Solari and everywhere in between.

BFA president Javier McGuire could not be reached for comment, possibly because he had become a bit too drunk during the celebrations and was at Amissville General Hospital.

Final score:
Bedistan 5 (Taft 19, 73; Griswold 33, 40)
Pudu 2 (77, 83, og 86)

Bedistan, you won 5-3 not 5-2 if U count the goals.

OOC - the own goal under 'Pudu' was an own goal scored by Pudu against themselves. I've seen own goals credited in this (rather misleading) fashion in real-life soccer stat resources.

I'm new to all this role-playing malarkey, how do I get involved in the next footy tournament, if at all possible?

The Audioslavia U21 team is on their way back from getting beaten on penalties by Crystalikere, a team with a name that no Audioslavian can spell correctly. Caretaker-manager Matty Pedder gets bored, and whips out his acoustic guitar

Matty: Hey guys, i know this isnt the best time, but i wrote a song, apparently it sound like the White Shites' 'fell in love with a girl', but i dont think it does... so anyway...

Matty: (singing)
Fell in love with a girl
She was decked in nothing but a little bikini
She was greener than mould
'Cos she's a bad mutha-fucka from Giant Zucchini
I couldnt think of anything to do
I just wanted to be her number one fan yeah
But i couldnt pull her anyway
Cos she was dating some fat bastard from Europa Brittania

Oh-ooh-oh-ah-ooh Oh, Oh
Ah-ooh-Ah-ah-ooh Ah, Ah
Oh-ooh-oh-ah-ooh Oh, Oh
Ah-ooh-Ah-ah-ooh Ah, Ah

Green hair with a curl
I'd go up and pull her if my heart was braver
But she dont want in my world
'Cos im a little **** from Audioslavia
I couldnt think of anything to do
I just wanted her to notice that im feeling so jealous
Then i realised i smelled of poo
'Cos i'd been sitting in some shit made by a dog from Squornshelous

Oh-ooh-oh-ah-ooh Oh, Oh
Ah-ooh-Ah-ah-ooh Ah, Ah
Oh-ooh-oh-ah-ooh Oh, Oh
Ah-ooh-Ah-ah-ooh Ah, Ah

Matty: so?

Doubt it is possible mate...unless we get some hosts (people organising the tournament) who have a serious need for a lot of teams. But you can join World Cup 17 in about a month...look for a "Masters Cup" thread, too, it's a six-a-side futsal competition for over-35s. Generally, anything with World Cup in it probably has something to do with footy. And we RP things as you see here in the thread - reports from the matches, crazy poems which has got something very vaguely to do with footy, etcetera. :)
