Tactical Group Sir William Issem deployed

It was announced this morning by Supreme Naval Commander Itxaad that the Tactical Group 'Sir William Issem' was being deployed to the island nation of the United Provinces of Tanah Burung. The 'Sir William Issem' is commanded by veteran Admiral Lassander Ilek. Admiral Ilek' office released a brief statement.

"With the permission of the sovereign peoples of the United Provinces the Tactical Group 'Sir William Issem' led by the Battleships 'Sir William Issem' and 'Namaan Ilek-Vaad II' will be carrying on exercises and demonstrations in and around the territorial waters of Tanah Burung.

This provides an excellent oppurtunity for us to play 'hide and seek' in an archipelago setting and to display the close ties with our friends of the United Provinces."

With no government currently in power in Ilek-Vaad reporters asked Tollan to clarify who had authorized the deployment, which must usually be approved by a majority vote of the Republican Council.

Staff Seargent Mirai Assad answered this for our LNS correspondent in Tollan.

"According to the Emergency Powers Act, the sitting Supreme Republican Commander may do as necessary to protect the Republic, it's allies and to keep the Retaliatory, Naval and Air Guard in a state of readiness. The Supreme Republican Commander has decided that exercises such as will be conducted to help keep our forces in readiness. This has not been a deployment for combat purposes and is merely an exercise."
Staff Seargent Assad told reporters.

It is uncertain what effect this will have on voting in the supplementary elections. Analyists believe this deployment may be in response to Sir Valdemar's veiled warning of possible Knootian Action in Tanah Burung.

Subject: naval deployment

The government of the DDR has received word that the Vaadian Tactical Group 'Sir William Issem' has been deployed recently to the United Provinces of Tanah Burung for the purposes of exercises and demonstrations in and around the territorial waters of Tanah Burung.

While we believe it is your sovereign right to hold exercises as you see fit, we are worried by the timing of this unannounced exercise in relation to political tensions between that nation and the DDR as the United Provinces have been found harbouring terrorists. We would like to see it confirmed that no relation exists between these bilateral political tensions and this unscheduled exercise. If a relation does exist we would like to know what the Free Republic is trying to accomplish.

We hope and trust Ilek-Vaad will maintain its traditional policy of non-interference and neutrality in the military matters of other nations, and would like to obtain a guarantee of this. The friendship between our two nations should not be put at risk over misunderstandings.

Yours sincerely,

Hans van Mierlo

((Hmmm… the trouble is that Ruhr is involved in this with ships and he is IGNORING you. And he *was* first. So if you could send me an OOC TG (yes, I know, another one) with some parameters on what exactly it is you would like to do? Then perhaps we can work something out. ))

Supreme Naval Commander Itxaad looked over the missive carefully, re-reading it several times and rubbing his bearded chin, he looked thoughtfully at the Captain of The Emperor Ehecatl

"I can't respond to this? Why was this sent to me? Forward this to Uncle Istvan."

The Captain nodded "I just have the ensign deliver what's in you inbox."

The Supreme Naval Commander growled "Ensign! Take a letter.

Dear Minister Van Mierlo,

I have received your comminique and I have read it and noted your concerns. However I am not at liberty to discuss the actions of the Retaliatory Guard with foreign powers.

This 'uannounced' exercise was indeed announced, after all it was in the news, and made in conjunction with the government of The United Provinces. The orders for the deployment of Naval Guard vessels came directly from Supreme Republican Commander Istvan Vaikov and he is the only person in the whole of Ilek-Vaad that has the authority to authorize further discussions on this exercise or on any matter concerning the Retaliatory Guard.

I have forwarded your message to our dear Uncle Istvan and he may or may not reply.

Yours in Good Faith,
Supreme Naval Commander Itxaad, Esq.

Now then send that to Mr. Foreign Minister Van Merlot."

The ensign quickly took this all down on his pda "Yes sir! Right away sir!"

To: Supreme Republican Commander Istvan Vaikov
From: Hans van Mierlo, Minister of Foreign affairs, DDR
Priority: High

Dear Sir,

The government of the DDR knows of the deployment of Vaadian Tactical Group 'Sir William Issem' to the United Provinces of Tanah Burung. We are worried by the refusal of the Supreme Naval Commander to provide any intelligence regarding this deployment which, we can now only conclude, has the purpose of interfering directly with Knootian anti-terrorist operations.

If this is not your purpose I would welcome words dispelling our conclusion that there is a relation between this exercise and our planned operations. If this deployment is indeed related to aforementioned operations against Rumbiak Brigade terrorism then I would strongly urge you to withdraw your forces lest they find themselves caught in a crossfire. The DDR is willing to compensate any losses incurred by the Free Republic and the United Provinces as a result of the cancellation of the military exercise.

I have always considered the Free Republic to be a friend, but the Knootian Defence Force will not hesitate to defend itself when it finds itself attacked by those whom we regarded as our friends.

Yours sincerely,

Hans van Mierlo.

Minister Van Mierlo,

I have received both of your messages to our Supreme Republican Commander and have been authorized to respond.

First, the Retaliatory Guard do not share military intelligence with non-allied states.

Second, the First Republican is operating under the current Mandate of the Retaliatory Guard to Prevent and/or end hostilities in the United Provinces.

Third, any damage done to any Retaliatory guard force, naval or otherwise will be considered an act of aggression and the offending forces will be relaxed to the appropriate branch of the Retaliatory Guard.

Last, as you may be aware the Retaliatory Guard took similiar action to end hostilities in Haven. I would hate to see your fleets joining those of the Empire of Fluffywuffy on the sea floor. If when the Sir William Issem arrives, there is fighting, all parties that do not immediately disengage will be relaxed.

If your forces are taking no aggressive action within the sovereign territories of the United Provinces then they will have no problems and they will be treated as friends.
