NNL (The Noviet National League)

OOC:

I see a lot of sports leagues perpetrated around the forums and I think I’d like to start my own. While this could end up being another wasted thread and merely pollute the sports RPs even further I’d still like to try, I can’t shut up when I have ideas. This is the run down of how I see the league, post if you have questions or are interested in signing up.

The sport will be baseball. The reason being is because it’s a slower paced game that is just as fun and I can mathematically represent it easier. That’s right mathematically represent, the games outcome will be determined by me, which is why I won’t be allowed to compete.

Each time a batter comes up to bat I will use a random number function to deicide if he hits or misses. With a successful contact a need to determine where the ball goes, using a different formula and an input from the random number generator. This formula will be influenced by player stats, weather where the ball was directed and the type of pitch that was thrown. Player stats you say? Well yes each player will have a set of statistics. Player statistics will be an amalgamation of luck (when I and I alone randomly generate their stats), experience and of course training. The training will be based on the sheer amount of money a country pours into the team. Whether it’s private sector or government money I don’t care, but I will develop formulas (which will be exponential against you) which will allow you to take your team to a variety of different clinics. (Where you’d pay to work up different skills.) Now before you think you can go all willy nilly and put 5% of your country’s budget into the baseball team you will be limited. The maximum allowable investment will be a function of the minimum investment.

I’m not going to start hammering out formulas or writing up and RP until I get some feed back from you guys, my teams. What do you think? Is this something you’d participate in? Perhaps you have a quarrel with the system? Well tell me and I’ll discuss it with you.

No one is interested in this at all?

It'd improve your RP as you could develop the Captain of Industry who own the teams the delegates who sit in the sky box!

You could win money if take home the grand prize!

Yes but as far as I know its not set up like a stat building RPG, I just though this would be fun

OOC: I've pretty near given up on this, but I figured one last bump for interest wouldn't hurt.

I might be interested. What would I have to do?

Well you don't have to do anything untill others are interested but here's the gist of what your joining would intail.

-You'd need to pay league dues to enter a team.
-You need a team
-You need a home stadium, to be approved by the league (me)
-Agree to give the league %10 of all revenues made from items copyrighted by the team (sale of the logo, sale of shares etc)

Paying dues
Simple enough the owner of the team pays 150,000 USD to the NNL

Making a team
Your team will have 25 actual players. You need to make it through the season with them, or not at all. You may have as many water boys, managers and agents (etc) as you want but only 25 players.

What this means to you oocly is that you will need to submit 25 players, names and stats (not baseball stats but stats for the RPG)

ex. of stat list (This is not the final list)

Throwing
Running
Catching
Hitting
Running

*-- means that a synergy bonus applies to this skill
** There are more specific skills ex. The skill curveball is a sub skill of pitching, which is a sub skill of throwing. Taking skills in throwing and pitching give you bonuses to 'curveball'

Home field

Does your team play in the empty lot between a grocer and a slummy apt building? Does your stadium have a retractable ceiling? Is there a 'blue' monster as the walls of your out field?

This is your chance to be creative. No two stadiums should be alike but remeber, having a unique stadium might give you a huge bonus in homefield games it'll also mean your not used to playing without your unique things...

Paying up

Alot of teams make money in other ways, this is more than fine, infact it's encouraged. However you are expected to pay 10% of all REVENUES to the league.

The way this will work is like a big RPG game, I'll run a thread for everygame and I will use your stats, which will be tracked by me and posted onto a website. Also on the website will be team stats and maybe, maybe, later player stats (errors times at bat etc). The games themselves will be here but the stats will be etheir on a geocities site or an invision board. You can be as hands on or off as you like. RPing out every player from their arrogant points towards the bleachers to the signing of thousands of autographs. If your more of a business RPer good, take care of that side. If you like stat building games well that you can get more games and pour money into clincs to raise the players stats.

Thanks for the question, hoped that answered it, if not speak up and I'll try again. If anyone wants to talk to me realtime then click on the icons to the left of this post.

Okay, wow, you have me hooked. I'll join in as soon as some other people join in, two teams wouldn't be that fun. But I guess team rivals would already be suggested in that situation. Give me a day to come up with some names and a description of a stadium and the other stuff you asked for and I'll get back to you.

Good stuff good stuff!

I'm going to make up a complete list of stats and how many points each player starts with. As for the stadium rember to include dimensions (very important for me seeing as how I need to calculate how far the ball is going)

Now for those of you who are interested Send this link to other ppl, I want to have a decent league. You have an ally here on NS? Send it and your players can have friendly competitions. You have a hated rival here on NS? Send it and your players can rush the mound, bean batters all the fun that is baseball!

Well these are the mechanics I was going to work with, tell me what you think they are not set in stone yet.

Baseball List of Skills

Each Player starts with 150 skill points to be arranged as you choose.

Throwing
- Pitching
- Fastball
- Four-seam
- Two-seam
- cut
- splitfinger
- forkball
- Breaking ball
- Curve
- Knuckle Curve
- Slider
- Sinker
- Screwball
- * Spitball

Catching
- Grounders
- Pop Flys
- Dives
- Lobs (A ball movement not already mentioned)
- Drives

Running
- Baseruning
- Stealing
- Diving

Hitting
- Specialization (You can take points to specialize in any pitch)
- Drives
- Pop Flys
- Power Hit
- Grounders

Body (It takes 15 skill points to upgrade these stats.)
- Left arm
- Right arm
- Torso
- Left leg
- Right leg

* Isn't a legal pitch

The system will work on a hundred sided die to deicide the random numbers.
So starting out you may have 150 points to spread around your stats.
NOTE: No sub stat may exceed its base stat or be greater than 20 of another sub stat of the same base stat.
- Ex. If your throwing skill is 12 your pitching skill cannot be 15.
- Ex. if your slider is 0 your split finger may not be 21.

The formula for skills is as follows.

(Base skill + sub skills + die roll) * 1/(10 - the average of the stats of the body parts involved.)

The formula for damage is as follows.

(Difficulty + die roll) * .0001 * (number of times this skill has been performed this game) ^ 2

NOTE: When total damage exceeds the body part stat injury occurs. The players may ‘play through the pain’ but if they get to (body stats * -2) a permanent injury occurs and the stat is reduced by 1.
- EX. Ron Green has a left arm stat of 2, he accumulates 4 points of damage. His arm stat is now one and can never be higher than 9 (10 being the max.)

Damage is undone by the next game unless an injury occurs. When an injury occurs the player will start the next game with a certain amount of damage inflicted already.

Now you may have notcied the asterisk, yes cheating is a fact of any proffessional sport unfortunately, meaning you can cheat in this game. Methods of cheating are, spitballs, sliding into the catcher (cleats up), steroids, and corking your bat. There are varying degrees of cheating and the bigger the bonus you get the more the chance you'll get caught. Getting caught has repercaussions and your team may be out of a player for a season depending on what he (or she this is an equal opportunity league) did.

EX. a corked bat that gives you a +100 to hitting will get you caught (100% odds) a bat that gives you +20 to hit may get you caught (20% odds). A bat that gives you a +5 to hit probably won't get you caught (5% odds).

If you want to cheat then I'll post up the other stats (I'm kinda hoping that this won't be rampant cheating)
