History of the Republic
The Republic of Ozymandias IV was founded after a brief and bloodless revolution in October 2003 in which a small group of conservatives overthrew the ruling leftist liberal green party.

The Greens had dominated the political scene for more than 60 years, neglecting military spending until the national military was nothing more than an outmoded shell with a few thousand soldiers working nearly full-time to maintain the out-of-date equipment of a bygone age.

While the populace enjoyed unheard of levels of political freedom and civil rights, the anti-business policies of the Greens had all but imploded the economy causing widespread unemployment and economic hardships. Millions died or emigrated to other nations to escape the chaos at home.

With growing dissatisfaction and a real sense of fear that neighboring states would overrun the entire nation, President Ozymandias IV and his ruling council of advisors were able to quickly gain power.

Since their ascension, Ozymandias IV instituted several initiatives to create economic opportunities. If some of the population's political freedoms were curtailed during the transition, they were assured that once stability was regained, many of the most harsh policies would be repealed.

As the economic turnaround began, the ruling council was able to increase military spending - purchasing tanks, armored personnel carriers, jet fighters and modern infantry weapons. The increased military spending also created new civilian jobs which increased overall prosperity further.

Today, the Republic of Ozymandias IV is viewed as a world leader in terms of its economic might and it ability to negotiate peaceful resolutions to regional conflicts. The Republic has sent peace-keepers to such diverse places as the Falkland Islands and the Fruit Islands of Terristan and Guerrillistan. While not the role for which the strong military was intended, the professionalism that is characteristic of the armed forces of Republic of Ozymandias IV ensure that their mission objectives will be met.

Political Philosophy of the Republic
Weapons of Mass Destruction
The Republic of Ozymandias IV does not possess any type of Weapons of Mass Destruction and has campaigned relentlessly to limit the proliferation of WMDs throughout the world. Any attack upon the Republic or its military forces using any type of WMD will be returned in kind by our various strategic allies.

For the purposes of this policy, WMDs shall include nuclear, biological, chemical and EMP weapons.

Terrorism
The Republic of Ozymandias IV will not negotiate with terrorists. Nations supplying terrorists with arms and financial support shall be considered terrorist states and are subject to attack and/or economic sanctions.

Non-interference
The Republic of Ozymandias IV will not interfere in the internal politics of sovereign states unless the internal situation in those nations directly impacts the Republic, its citizens or its business interests.

Vanguard's eyes and ears come in the form of Pulse-Doppler search radar with a 25km range (large antenna) and a smaller tracking radar with a 5 km range. The search radar will identify targets with plenty of time to spare, and when the target comes within 5km of the ship, the search radar will "hand off" the target to the tracking radar. It is then the responsibility of the track radar to employ the appropriate weapons - the search radar may then continue hunting for other targets, prioritizing by proximity to the ship. The platform rotates 120 degrees per second.

The basic unit of organization in the Grand Army of the Republic is the brigade. A brigade is a collection of regiments or battalions that have been grouped together for a specific purpose. A fighting brigade will traditionally contain about 2,000 soldiers. A division is traditionally made up of three or four brigades and contains 6,000 to 10,000 soldiers.

First (Armoured) Division and Third (Armoured) Division and Fifth (Mechanized) Division, Seventh (Mechanized) Division and Ninth (Mechanized) Division are fighting heavy divisions whereas Second, Fourth, Sixth and Eighth Division are reserve heavy divisions in specific regions of the Republic.

The GAR's 98th Airborne Division is able to strike deeply into enemy territory via parachute drop or helicopter deployment. It also serves as a light infantry division in more traditional combat operations. The Third (Light) Infantry Division and Fifth (Light) Infantry Division are completely self-contained and are tasked with rapid deployment anywhere in the world with a heavier punch than the Airborne can provide.

The Army Air Corps is a branch of the GAR tasked with providing close-air support for ground units. It is comprised of fixed wing aircraft and helicopters.

In addition, speciality units like combat engineers, air defense and artillery operate as independent brigades tasked to divisional forces on an as-needed basis.

The organization of the Grand Army of the Republic is as follows:
