Need some feedback on support for a Marriage Covenant resolution.

Divorce is too easy in todays world. A voluntary Marriage covenant that would only dissolve a marriage after Spousal abuse or extensive marriage counseling. Marriage is the fondation for society and is breaking down at an alarming rate.

I like the idea, but I would make it mandatory, and change the grounds of it to marital unfaithfulness only.

good Point, Marital unfaithfullness could be apart of it, but what if the parnter repents and is willing to make amends, anyone can make a mistake once, I think that would fall into the marital counseling part.

What do other people think of making it mandatory?

Well, if a guy and who aren't Christians know that they can't get a divorce if the marriage doesn't work out, won't they be more likely just to live together?

Well, horn blower I have two responses to your question. First, I dont think this is a christian issue, and second why would a guy get married if he didnt think it would work out?

I'm against it. Simply because I value my freedom and that of my fellow men.
Now something that protects the word and the ceremony of marriage within a Christian frame as a Christian thing (man and woman, holy martimony), that's fine with me as long as there's an equal alternative for everyone else without any legal differences. Aside of the fact that you have to be Christian to be eligable for the status of "married."
I'm sure that every ministry of public relations is all-together willing to create new words for other belief systems according to their traditions.
People who don't want to be bound to a religion will have to live with a beuarocratic "officially registed relationship status" orrs though.

If people want to split up they should be able to.
Mainly because to me the foundation of our society has always been free pursuit of liberty, success and happiness.

I am not sure why you think marriage is christian, muslims get married, jews get married, hindus as well as most every relegion in the world, even athiest get married, This does not have to be relegious in nature. this is about keeping families together and following through with the promise they made in their marriage vows. I am proposing a voluntary covenant, someone else said to make it mandatory. I am asking what other people think.

The basis of the freedoms your are talking about is a strong family, not 3 differant moms and 2 dads with 10 half brothers.
