New weapons developed by GDI Scientists

GDI 2000

3 new weapons have been vreated by the Global Defence Initaive [2000] Army. The RCICW [Rail-Cannon Individual Combat Weapon] the SALC [Sub-Atomic Lazer Cannon] and HONWDLS [High Orbit Nuclear Weapons Detection and Launch System]. Each of these weapons is being intirgrated into the GDI's main battlenet. Details on each weapon follow.

RCICW =
Based on a standard rail-gun and with the perfection of a small high powered energy source, Railguns are becoming common amongst the troops of the GDI forces. However a more powerful rail gun was required to destroy tanks and buildings as RGICW [Rail-Gun Individual Combat Weapons] were ineffective at this job. The GDI science team perfectd the RCICW almsot 2 weeks ago when the 1st RCICW's were inigrated on Battle-Tech Wardroids. Firing large explosive [or nuclear] warheads the RCICW could penetrate any know material [even diamond] destroying the material and contents instantly. With the intergration of these weapons into the 1st BTW regiment and 3rd BTW regiment, they should provide adequete destructive power when called upon.

SALC =
The SALC is a cannon based on [insted of light] firing high energy particals at a target in a beam. [called a lazer] The technology is slowly replacing conventional kinetic weaponary on the battlefield [SA80 and LSW replaced by R-SALC, and GPMG and mounted machineguns replaced by MG-SALC] The lack of an ammunition cartridge from the weapon enables even the smallest troops to carry the weapon. The weapon sucks air particals into the barrel, the barrel becoming extremly hot with radiation, ionises the particals with magnets powering a small rod along the barrel [like a rail-gun] the highly radiated and charged particals will then follow the rod vaporising everything in there path. 5 versions of the weapon have been developed.
1) Individual Combat Weapons for soldiers on the ground [R-SALC]
2) Machine and Suppression Machine Guns [MG-SALC]
3) Small Mounted Cannon [SC-SALC]
4) Medium Mounted Cannon [MC-SALC]
5) Rapid Fire Weapon [RF-SALC]
{These weapons will not stop the production and integration of RCIWC's into GDI forces.}

HONWDLS =

Research into Soviet Weapon during the cold war has revealed plans for Nuclear Weapons in space. This was banned in a 1970's/80's treaties. However the ability to detect nuclear missiles from space was never banned. With the placement of 3 satalittes in space to monitor missile launches from other nations, weapons were placed on these satalittes to shootdown and fire missiles from these spacebased weapons platforms.

All these weapons are being intergrated into the GDI's armed forces by the end of June 30th 2004. With this the GDI forces can once agen become weapons of mass destruction and power amongst the nations of the world.

OOC: These things would be acceptable for a future-tech nation, but you claim to be operating in the present time. I suggest you play as a future-tech nation if you want to use these weapons without getting called out for godmodery.

Actually these weapons are in weapons development by High Tech British forces. [except HONWDLS my thing] these weapons arnt exactly future tech they can be done now hwever i made several modifications to the main details obviously to deter copyright.

The Colonial Army is also buying these weapons for intergration inot there armed forces.

Actually, this is godmoding even for future-tech. The liberties taken here are just ridiculous...

"RCICW =
Based on a standard rail-gun and with the perfection of a small high powered energy source,"

Uh...no?

What kind of power source are we dealing with here? Railguns need time to warm up, and they use a lot of energy besides. This is clearly an attempt to circumvent the energy-hungry nature of railguns, and is not explained whatsoever (what is this "small high powered energy source", and how does it work?)

"Railguns are becoming common amongst the troops of the GDI forces."

Railguns kick like a mule, and any decently-sized one could knock a soldier on his ass (I'm referring to the one firing it, too...what it would do to a target is less pretty).

"However a more powerful rail gun was required to destroy tanks and buildings as RGICW [Rail-Gun Individual Combat Weapons] were ineffective at this job."

Whereas for about 10 bucks you can get an RPG and destroy a tank much more cheaply and effectively, with no need for these ludicrous and overpriced weapons.

"The GDI science team perfectd the RCICW almsot 2 weeks ago when the 1st RCICW's were inigrated on Battle-Tech Wardroids."

Uh...oooooh-kay. Are you aware of the major problems surrounding "Battle-Tech Wardroids" as a viable combat platform (and the fact that your name for them is both cheesy and comes close to violating two trademarks)?

"Firing large explosive [or nuclear] warheads the RCICW could penetrate any know material [even diamond] destroying the material and contents instantly."

Railguns don't fire explosive projectiles--normal shells tend to be horribly damaged by the forces of acceleration provided by these weapons. A railgun fires a solid, fin-stabilized slug.

"The SALC is a cannon based on [insted of light] firing high energy particals at a target in a beam. [called a lazer]"

1. "Laser" does not contain a z.
2. "Laser" specifically refers to light (it is in fact an acronym!) What you've got there is a particle beam.

"The technology is slowly replacing conventional kinetic weaponary on the battlefield [SA80 and LSW replaced by R-SALC, and GPMG and mounted machineguns replaced by MG-SALC]"

That's ridiculous. The limitations of beam weapons and particle beams especially make the idea of them replacing kinetic projectiles absurd. Supplementing, yes, but replacing? No.

"The lack of an ammunition cartridge from the weapon enables even the smallest troops to carry the weapon."

THAT is just ridiculous. A man-portable particle beam weapon isn't going to happen anytime soon, and it's going to need extensive power supplies.

"The weapon sucks air particals into the barrel, the barrel becoming extremly hot with radiation, ionises the particals with magnets powering a small rod along the barrel [like a rail-gun] the highly radiated and charged particals will then follow the rod vaporising everything in there path."

Needlessly complex and pretty much useless the way it's described. What we have here is implausible. If you want particle beams, do some research and find out the reality behind them. They won't be man-portable "blasters" anytime soon.

The Satellite is also stupid, because a) a missile is very difficult to shoot down and many decoys will also be launched, and b) the political ramifications of a "perfect" missile shield are immense. This could be the source of a rich roleplaying campaign all by itself. It certainly shouldn't be magnamoniously granted.

Ouch... That must have hurt...

I would have asked why there was a need to be so critical, but the date just dosen't seem correct, so I agree that you might want to tone it down a bit.

I play 2040s era technology, and even I don't abuse railguns like that; the smallest unit I have is mounted on a 3-ton battlemover and is powered by a combination of palladium fusion and hydrogen fuel cells.

Though I will point out that railguns are not as recoil-happy as an RPG would be (due to the closed nature of an RPG-7 and the connection between it and its self-propelled payload); not to say that railgun recoil is not prodigious for a 4.5mm projectile (I've looked at some mathematics for that size shell and it's something like 7,029,192.96 joules, heh). Their primary weakness is generating inordinate amounts of heat, usually frying the coils and the barrel underneath. Not something to be hand-held, unless you want to play around with super-cooling through liquid nitrogen or laser-cooling, which merely shifts the heat and doesn't eliminate it. You don't want to be near a railgun when it's firing, unless you intend on losing your hands and firing arm. ;)

Of course, I also don't nitpick and make everything super-realistic unless it's pertinent to the story, or if someone really needs to know how something works. /me shovels Arm Slave M9/ARX-7 prototypes under the rug
