OOC:

I should have done this a long time ago, but here it goes... this is a start that might make me become a fledgling space nation. :)

Or, at least it will give me a start in my quest to become a space/futuristic-tech nation.

IC:

Ten years ago in Magnus Valerian history, a remarkable event occured in the nation of New-Transylvania. Valerian invasion forces were irked when the majority of the New-Transylvanian army refused to fight... apparently, a fight was occuring within the government, and the nation of New-Transylvania was soon annexed. But, the wonders that the Valerian soldiers saw in this nation haunted their eyes with glory at what this technology would do for their nation... automatons, towering buildings made of glass, odd box-looking things called computers, and giant steel birds, an aircraft many times more superior to the common biplane!

Research teams under the shroud of the government took this technology and put it to use... well, sort of. Billions of Crowns funded the effort; the technology was already available, but it had to be researched and implemented. Some of the things quickly created out of "acquired" New-Transylvanian technology were SAM batteries, missile defense systems, and skyscrapers. Dozens of those peaks of steel and glass already have begun to populate cities in the nation. Valeria was soon to be modernized after a crippling isolation by several of its previous emperors. But, the Tsar was very intrigued by one thing: Space.

"The universe is so vast, yet we only know so little here... I want to explore the vast, uncharted regions to see what we cannot see from Earth," said Tsar Alexander II, with his first-born son Valens sitting on his knee. The four-year-old was busy looking at the crew and the equipment that was filming the news conference from the Congress Hall in the capital city. The emperor uttered one more sentence before he entered the building for a meeting with officials on a proposal to return the nation's government form into a constitutional monarchy, with free parties and elections.

"If we are to truly develop as a nation, we need a space program!"

The next day, a bookish professor by the name of Thomas Lind appeared in the gardens of the Imperial Estate with the emperor. Professor Lind stood up at the podium, and once the soft roar of the crowd died down, he made his speech. "Let us call this the glorious beginning of the national space program with this galactic transmitter. No, we cannot talk to whomever lies out there in the deep darkness in terms of a two-way conversation, but it will make our presence known to those who lie out there in deep space. It will be a stepping stone for the generations to come, for when they look at the stars, it may be from another planet!" The professor and the Tsar both began to press the controlling buttons. The communicator was activated, and soon it was airing the unique frequency of radio waves into space.

OOC: Bump. I'm going to continue on with the RP tomorrow with another post...
