A figure walked down the corridors of a building. Wearing a full length black cloak, a white ceramic mask and carrying a look of ice in thier eyes.

Following is an armored soldier whose helmet is in a demonic smile. He carries a loaded assault rifle in a sling, allowing him to fire from the hip.

The figure stepped into a room. Across was a wall of thick windows, showing the spreawling morass of Myer, Crimmond's largest city by far and the industrial center of the nation.

The man behind the desk looked up and stood. "What do you want, Ghost and why did you bring the merc?"

The figure simply walked to the desk and looked at him. A female voice came from behind the mask. "To talk."

The man, Administrator Delta, scowled at the masked woman, Ghost and the armored mercenary, Dagger. "Sit."

When Ghost did sit, he did. Dagger took up a position beside her. "What do you want to talk about. I have a war to prepare for and a rouge AI to deal with, in addition to the Ministry."

"Your issues may be important to you, but mine are more pressing. I have served you and the Council under the promise that after the Black Staff took power and Lord Tian was dead that I would be placed in power. I am still waiting."

Delta smiled. "You will continue to wait. I have plans for you Ghost. You will not take power of the Combine yet."

"You will turn over power. It was our agreement."

"Indeed it was, but you were never given a date. So you have been assigned other duties."

"Duties that have me as far away from power as possible. You will turn over power now."

"No."

Ghost stood suddenly and leaned across the desk. The mask inches from Delta's face. "Do not doublecross me Delta. My brother made that mistake. I had him killed. If I would do that to my own brother... imagine what would happen to you."

Delta glanced at the grinning helmet of Dagger and then at the blank mask of ghost. "I am more powerful than you could ever imagine. I intimidate the rulers of superpowers... I give Damien Dreadfire, the Destroyer himself, chills by merely looking into his eyes. You and your merc don't scare me, Ghost. Now get the hell out."

Ghost stood up straight. "Damien the Destroyer is half insane. He has a phabtom as a bodygaurd and a demon as a warlord. Who in their right mind would think he isn't paranoid?" She turns away, towards the door, but looks back. "My family brought Crimmond out of Martial Law. I have been dead. I have been brought through time. I have been through things you cannot imagine..." She motions to Dagger, who opens the door. "You have one chance, Delta. If I walk through that door without your throne, you will live to regret it... or perhaps you won't..."

Delta just sat there, watching and listening. His face might of well been made of stone. Ghost walked out, followed by Dagger. An agent moved out of a shadow and looked to Delta. "What shall I do with her?"

"She's too important to the organization. Keep tabs on her, but do not impede her more than usual."

-----------------

The two left the building and entered a car, driving off into the city. As they entered another building, she could spot the agents around her. They were rotated out periodically, but she knew what they were. They entered an elevator and she glanced at Dagger. "You are said to be from the Pit of Fire. I have worked with those that have seen Hellmouths. Ones who have seen Mephisto itself. You are not from there."

The armored figure shakes his head. "No. I am not from Hell."

They stepped off the elevator and moved ino a large suite. "You are not a man though. Every man has some weakness. Some compassion. You kill without remorse, with skill unrivaled. You have never missed your target, even if you had to shoot through another person to kill them."

Dagger nods. "I am very good at my job. I will kill whoever I must. I will never kill an innocent intentionally if it can be avoided."

"I want you to take out Delta."

"I would be killed seconds later."

"So be it."

"No bounty is worth your life. You can't spend money if you're dead."

Ghost spun on him, the fabric of her cloak giving her an appearence of one as it flowed. "You would defy me? The rightful ruler of this nation?"

Dagger din't move. "You lost that right when you agreed to let the Black Staff rule. Face it, the Imperial Totality is dead. You signed it's death certificate when you had your brother killed."

She stared at him from behing the emotionless mask. Only her eyes were visible. He thought he could see a tear well up before she turned. "Get out. I will find another to kill him."

After three steps to the door, he stopped. "They will fail. I am the best mercenary in this nation. I have been since the deaths of Domino Andolini and Drake Tavo. They ran afoul of the Shentavo family. Who are equally dead now. Why create more death? There is enough allready. With this war, there will be more."

He exited without waiting for an answer.

Myer. An ugly city by any standards. Overhead was smog and constant storms. The city itself was the cause. Holding the largest amount of population and largest amount of industry means that the city sprawled over the landscape like a tumor. A light rain was falling. It was partly water, but mostly acid. There was no one outside unless they were under one of the covered walkways.

---------------------

Ghost removed her mask and cloak, wearing a tight jumpsuit underneath. She was a fair, but not pale, redheaded woman. She removed the jumpsuit and walked to the bathroom, where water was already flowing into the hot tub. Before entering, she pressed a button on a remote, deactivating the cameras watching her. There were just some things even the Black Staff didn't need to watch her doing...

After a half hour of soaking, she stepped out and dried off. After putting on another jumpsuit, she stepped out of the bathroom and pressed the remote after replacing her mask.

----------------------

Delta read reports in his office for the next few hours and started to wonder why he didn't turn over the job to Ghost. He hated reports. He finally stood up and walked out the door, grabbing his hat and placing on his head as he closed the door.

Two agents followed him into the elevator and down to his car, taking him to another building where he entered alone and took another elevator up. He entered his suite and removed his hat and coat, walked to the bead and just sat on it, staring at the TV as it showed a news report sensationalizing the war that had not started yet.

----------------------

Dagger looked down on the city from a rooftop, 130 stories up. He ignored the rain. His armor wouldn't be hurt by it and if it was, he had three spares. Ghost is a fool to think Delta will be deposed. She underestimates her enemies. That is a mistake. One which will kill her one day.

He sighed and stepped off the edge of the building. After plummeting twenty stories, he twisted in the air, unhitched a grapple and fired it at the building a fee hundred feet away. The electromagnet clanged loudly as it hit and slid down a story before stopping. Dagger swung in a long arc and landed on a ledge. After retrieving the magnet, he replaced it on his armor and entered the building on the 94th floor. Missed by two stories... he thought while climbing up the side of the building and over a balcony ledge. He looked through the window at the person inside and tapped the glass.

------------------

Delta turned off the TV and looked out the window.

------------------

Ghost looked up at the thick glass keeping the acidic rain out.

------------------

Both saw Dagger. Dagger saw only one. He nodded and vaulted over the railing, falling further down the building before recreating his grappling landing.

Ghost ran to the window and opened it, looking down as Dagger fell. How in the Hell did he get there?! How long was he there?

Delta watched from three stories higher, across the street. He smirked. That wasn't a planned meeting...

Dagger smirked in his helmet as he stepped into the elevator. Maybe that will teach her not to underestimate anyone.
