Keep Gibralter British!

:!: The "Rock" of Gibralter is located on the tip of the Iberian Pennesula (Spain) to the north (bizzarely enough) of the Strate of Gibralter. It was captured from the Spanish by an Anglo-Dutch protestant navy from Spain 300 years ago. The Spanish owned California until much later then that but do they claim that back :?: Since that day Gibralter has been part of the British Empire. Helping to defend democracy by fighting the Nazis in the war in the Medditearn where a Fascist Spain did not. Gibralter was one (apart from Malta (G.C.)) of the Allied Navy's only ports. Helping to roll back the Third Reich and keep the world free from oppression, when Spain did not. It was capturing because of its position defending the entrance to the Medditearn sea. All poles sugguest Gibralter wants to remain British and the Royal Gibralter Regiment of the British army has an exensive history there. Gibralter is British territory it just as important as if the Spanish demanded Westminister or Windsor. So what do the Spanish do? Make all Gibralter to Spain traffic have to wait for Stupid amounts of time to extensive checks they don't bother to make anywhere else (espically to another pat of the EU), and depand it back. I'm sorry but thats just spiteful.
Whether you are British or not please vote to keep what the people of Gibralter want and Keep Gibralter British, ( if nothing else then for civil rights) a place where people have afternoon tea and police stations have blue lights outside.

With all due respect, it is completely pointless for Britain to have a tiny bit of land within someone else's territory. These claims are, for one, absurd.

I would say the same thing to a Spanish claim in Britain. It simply does not make sense. The rock of Gibraltar will not make Britain a superpower.

PS: Whilst the topic of this post is unique, I believe it is a "General" forum topic, not one of the Nationstates forum. A kind moderater may come and solve this, but... for future reference.

To say that a territory remains part of the British Empire is rather questionable, since the empire became, in 1931, the Commonwealth of Nations.
Gibraltar is today an overseas territory of the UK, and, as the 2002 referendum showed, the people wish it to remain so. They shall have that democratic wish.

(OOC: nb. this nation state represents a Britain that breaks from the real-world's time-line only in the last couple of years.)

(Of course, the Governor's message depends upon Hellberd's intent by speaking of a Gibralter to reference Gibraltar.)

The British Empire doesn't come into it! It is an important stratigic staging ground for many British troops just like the Falklands. Demanding back territory and making unrest in Europe is irrisponsible and causes a problem in the Europian community. After all Britain is hardly an immediate threat to Sapin and Gibralter isn't the only port near north Afriac. Its merly the nicest.

One notes that it was your part, Hellberd, that brought the Empire into this discussion.

London has expressed to my office a passing interest in what precisely caused you to raise this issue, and it is wondered whether perhaps your nation is in posession of some intelligence pertaining to a potential threat to the peace in Gibraltar. Of course both the House of Assembly and Downing Street, amongst other authorities, would be thankful for your provision of any such intelligence.

(OOC: If this ends up being moved to General, ignore my contributions thus far and don't take me for some crack-pot who actually thinks he's Governor of Gibraltar :) )

OOC: Ehm, pretty much, I think. I mean, it's about Nation States, anyway, and the real world isn't always represented in Nation States. As it happens, my nation does attempt to represent a slightly changed part of the real world, but now I'm just confusing you...right.
Probably if you want to discuss the real world without relating it to Nation States you need the General Forum, I think... but from what I've seen that place is no fun.
