DONTGONEARTHERE.

Emperor Lorenzo the CXVIII was bored.
Well, it had been a pretty slow week, especially aftre all that action on the boarder with Al-Khali. It hadnt been major, but it HAD been a good excuse to get out of the palace, and that was always good, several advisors had been giving him funny looks and the Imperial Apothecary had reported that some of his rarer and more painful poisons had vanished, so was eager to get out and about, a bit of healthy exercise and a vacation for his food tasters.
So it was that when he received notice of a visiting Al-Khali ambasador he lept to his feet, almost cried with joy, and began to arrange his war.

---

A week or so later the Emperor and the ambassador were sitting at a long table in Agatea, a relativly neutral town in Takrat, which was also maintaining its neutrality currently and was about halfway between G'oaway and Al-Khali.
As the ambassador was eating his fried rice a knife suddenly leapt out of the shadows, piercing the Emperors left hand and startling the Al-Khali ambasador.
"GUARDS!!!" Screamed the stricken Emperor, this wasnt how it had been planned...somebody was REALLY trying to kill him.
From the rafters a man dressed as an Al-Khali assassin dropped, rushed to the Emperors side and pulled the knife out.
"Doesnt appear to be poisoned Lord...err" He turned to the ambasador, he blinked a few times, like somebody trying to remember a script.
"OH..err...You towlehead scum you! You have tried to kill the Emperor! For this you will die!" And hit the man on the head.

---
Message to Al-Khali:
With the death of the former Emperor, Lorenzo the CXVIII, from fourty one stab wounds, and the ascendance of Cecil the XXXXIII we have declared that a state of war exists between the countries of Al-Khali and G'oaway.
You will soon face the military might of G'oaway, prepare yourselves for the afterlife.
-G'oaway War Consul.

P.S. Enclosed is your ambasadors head, please send somebody to pick up the rest, its starting to smell.

---
Inside G'oaways garrison the sound of marching feet, yelling soldiers, horses, oxen and the other things normally associated with wartime preparation are heard.
A look inside the fort would reveal G'oaways massive army preparing to go to battle, a full 20,000 regulars, along with a hastily equipped fifty thosand militiamen, from a city of almost two million people.

Outside the city a number of camps have formed, consisting of men from surrounding towns and cities within the City-States boarders.

Blocks of men with rectangular shields are seen drilling in the fields, practicing G'oaways famed 'Damn ugly shiedly-box thing' tactic, which had one its place as head of the G'oaway alliance.
Outside a number of men with long spears were forming up in phalanxes, a normally innefective tactic, but when fighting screaming hordes of 'towleheads' it might work. Armour gleamed, breastplates shone, and the flags of differnt Centuries fluttered in the breeze.
At one side a new thing could be seen.
Captapults, ballisti and other siege weapons hastily adapted to suite an anti-infantry role were hurling stones at a ruined wall with targets painted on it, the wall showed a good bit of wear and tear, mostly in the form off long rows of pockmarks and a fine spray of powder hanging in the air.

OOC:
Of coures, by OOC only I mean limited OOC is allowed, such as "err...how many barbarians are in a screaming horde, exactly?" and "Ok, but your charging knights just got themselves and their horses impaled on twenty foot long spears..." is allowed, just dont start any conversations.

Sorry to the Al-Khali player for RPing your bit, its just that people are getting impatient to start this damn thing and I didnt want to exclude everybody until we were done talking :P

Politics, double dealing and general assholism are welcome on the parts of the players, ICLY!

The Khan Alexsandr II sat reading the tattered letter, surrounded by his Generals. He finished, twirling his mustache with a finger.
"So the G'owayains(?) have started a war with Al Khali? In Agatea? Could we somehow levy them a fine for that? I mean, what with expenses for our...er..." His Generals, knowing very well not to make the Khan seem stupid, started nodding and saying, "Oh yes, leader..." "Clearly a breach of international law..."
"Well, never mind. But issue the following order to your subordinates: 'Any armies or nationals of G'oway or Al Khali that violate our sovereignty by passing through Takrat land shall be attacked and raided.' " A clerk feverishly wrote the Khan's every word down.
"Perhaps we can grant one side a Right of Passage, for a nice price." suggested one General.
"Yeah, then one of our commanders can raid a party of theirs, and he'll tell them he wasn't aware of the agreement!" added another.
"You know, I knew I didn't have you guys beheaded for a reason." affectionately added their leader.

a tall strong figure moved through the streets of Zarafaa (not called port strategic yet). he had one thought in his mind, this one all incompasing thought held his purpose, 5 years had been the build up to this.
he walked further through the zarafaan streets heading inexorably to 1 building, he was tall, well muscled and fast, at his side were his 10 most trusted bodyguards, all armed and armoured like him, light easy to run in armour, medium length spears and sheilds bearing his personal symbol.

In the deserts of the Al-Khali reaches, lord Hazim gathers an army to invade the rest of the continent. Already, millions had answered the call, and word was that they would soon be ready to lay siege to inland cities.

Meanwhile, on the desert coast, Hazim's cousin, Muhammed, readies a contingent of raiding ships to sail south to present-day Glacorp HQ.

Theres nothing there right now...it does have a rather pleasant reef though...perfect for impaling ships and stuff :)

IC:
As of now an army of 25,000 men has been dispatched to the Al-Khali state of Bad Ass, to take the town and give us a foothold inside the country.
5,000 of these will be sailing up the river (on which nobody can agree what its name should be), while the rest take the land route.
Overall, its looking like a bad day for Bad Ass.

A scout crouches on a dunetop, a spyglass in hand, and his scimitar within easy reach. He looks out upon the ranks of the advancing army. Around 30,000 men, he estimates. It shouldn't be trouble for the main army, but the defenses of Bad Ass, a mere 6,000 cavalrymen and 2,000 footsoldiers, might be in for some trouble. However, warlord Hazim had wisely sent three of his new cannons, along with new rocket technology aquired from traders to Bad Ass.

The scout hurries back to his horse, and jumps aboard. The scout then takes off across the dunes.

As the army marched through the desert the 5,000 'marines' aboard ship were close enough to the city to unload and make camp.
Slowly but surely a moat was finished, then walls went up, followed by towers and finnaly tents, tiny fires of torches could be seen, moving slowly back and forth as guards patroled.
Armour glinted in the moonlight as 5,000 men rested.

Outside the "marine's" camp, a few adventurous rocketeers begin setting up their instruments.

They stick the cone-shaped missiles into the ground, light their torches, and, with a prayer to god, light the fuse.

One rocket explodes on the ground, and the other spins in wild gyrations before crashing.

Rockets would have to be shelved for the time being.
Dontgonearthere

Once the explosions fade they are quickly replaced by the sound of five thosand men waking at once.

The armies centurions were up first, kicking tents down and hitting people while screaming (This is genisis of the first military tradition) things about peoples mothers and insect larvae.
After about ten minutes a group of twenty cavalry men, fifteen spear\swordmen and five archers, rushed out in search of the attackers.

They returned a few minutes later with the remains of a rocket, there was little left, but it would be dispatched immidiatly to G'oaways Alchemists and Thaumaturgists for study.

---

The larger part of the army had almost caught up with the forward section, their lead had been cut by a quick forced march of fifty miles, the men and animals were tired, but they could still fight and were maintaining their formation quite well.
The general rode on his huge charger in the center of the army, riding a full five feet above all the common soldiers.
His gold plated armour, assorted plumes and lance would be enough to blind the enemy army while his men killed them off.
Of course, few people noticed the man on the smaller, more agile horse with a smaller sword, more conventional armour and a total lack of plumes.
He was the armies cheif strategist, and of course HE was the one who won battles...the 'general' was mostly for show.
This next battle in Bad Ass would be tough, the enemy was rumoured to have huge amounts of men, but of course they were simple barbarians...right?

Several miles away from the invading army's ranks, a front of around 5,000 footsoldiers, armed mostly with pikes and scimitars, bear down on the g'oaway army.

They are dressed in standard desert clothing, and are thus of no uniform appearance. In the very front of the unit's ranks, a large elephant bears a man clad in colorful robes, with a feathery headdress which adds several feet to his height.

Surrounding the elephant is a square formation of 100 or so troops, clad in bright red and wielding large, threatening scimitars. They are the general's bodygaurds.

The general in question, general Al-Naj, is highly unpopular. Warlord Hazim put him in command of the Bad Ass defenses with the hope that he would die. Being his brother-in-law, he could not simply order him executed as he would have, but had to give Al-Naj the customary 5,000 men and general's rank as acceptance into the family.

Al-Naj's division comes ever closer to the invading troops, and at about 1/4th mile's distance, Al-Naj orders his men to charge.

The ranks of footsoldiers advance towards the invaders at a running pace, Al-Naj and his bodygaurds in front, the large elephant galloping along, accidentally trampling ten or so bodygaurds.

However, unbeknownst to the invading army (hopefully), Hazim's favorite cousin, Karzim, waits with his cavalry troops (6,000 men) in the cover of high dunes several miles away. He lies flat on one of the dunetops, spyglass in hand, watching his cousin-in-law kill himself, with great satisfaction. Karzim is actually a good commander, not an idiot like Al-Naj. He had worked out a strategy the previous night, while Al-Naj was at a local beer hall, that worked as thus:

Al-Naj would get his 5,000 engaged with the enemy advance force of similar numbers. Al-Naj would die sometime in the battle, causing his troops to scatter like the wind. The enemy force would pursue, thus stretching out their lines. Then, his cavalry forces would strike, supported by cannons, and cut the infidels down.

Two out of four cannons had been lost to the desert (sold to traders) that night by drunken crews, so Karzim had to modify his plan to rely more on Al-Naj's surviving troops than cannon-supplied firepower.

Al-Naj's infantry force runs headlong towards the invaders' ranks, and the battle begins.

Meanwhile, Hazim's army of nearing three million men, plus seige engines, cannons, rockets, and all sorts of logistical support personnel and engineers, begins to stir.

A messenger on a white horse rides up to Hazim and his entourage, consisting of the cannon & rocket unit commander, the local cavalry commander, the seige unit commander, Hazim's favorite alchemist (is also an engineer and strategist), the corps commanders, and the supply commanders.

"My lord, the battle has started around Bad Ass."
"So we have heard."
"My apologies, lord, but..."
"Tell Al-Naj that he is to stop the infidels there and wait for reinforcments. He is not to pursue until he recieves General Jalaqui's corps."
"Yes, my lord."

The messenger gallops away towards Bad Ass as General Jalaqui excuses himself from Hazim's company. Turning towards his corps of footsoldiers, he rallies them for the trip towards Bad Ass. The 100,000 men begin moving, maintaining no particular formation and trusting their defense to the cavalry scout outriders assigned to the corps. The trip should take a little less than a week along the well-scouted route from Hazim's camp to Bad Ass.
