Modern Dontgonearthere. (Ignore the other countries, they dont exist yet)

OOC:
Ok, heres the deal:
Dontgonearthere, up until about three hundred years ago, was basicaly five states, Al-Khali, G'oaway, D'pressin, Takrat, and the Strategic Isles. They were all at war in various alliances for over a thosand years, this resulted in Dontgoneartheres current environment and ecology, IE: Giant man-eating plants, Horribly Mutated Thigns, and a distinct lack of topsoil.
This RP will take place just before the start of the war, things are pretty hot, there are boarder skirmishes, raids, and lots of impoliteness in general.

Geography:
At this point Dontgonearthere resembles mainland Europe, its very green in most places, lots of vegetation and wildlife, and is in general a nice place to live if your not in a city. There are alot more rivers than on the above map.
The only desert right now is in Al-Khali (North DGNT), it takes up most of the state, but is fairly easy to traverse because of underground water supplies, the reason nothing grows is a lack of soil nutrients, but there are numerous oiasis.
The grey lines are DGNTs monorail system, which is build along the lines of old roads, that 'currently' exist, there are lots more roads that werent built over. The only ones that dont exist are the overwater routs.

The countries:
Each 'couontry' is an official alliance of city states, mostly arranged by ethnic groupings.

I will describe the capitols of each state, they are the basic model for all the other cities/

G'oaway is the second strongest state, and the one that wins the war several thosand years later, and is loosly based on the Roman Empire, militarily and culturealy.
G'oaway (The citystate, not the alliance) has a population of about one and a half million, ruled by a mortuary (as opposed to a heridetary) Emperor, meaning whoever kills the current one gets the job, named Lorenzo the CXVIII, the system chews through rulers pretty quickly.
Its army is large and well equiped, and has excellent generals. They arent really equipped for desert fighting, but can manage it.
Dontgonearthere will be playing as G'oaway, the leader of the G'oaway Alliance, other people are welcome to choose a city from the map or make one up.

Current city-states:
G'oaway- Dontgonearthere
Korlis- Five Civilized Nations

Al-Khali is the most powerful state and the largest army, it is loosely based on the Middle East/North Africa, with lots of stereotypical religious fanatics (seriously, this is a major problem in modern DGNT), who will at the drop of a tow- turban go from 'Offendi' to 'Infidel', and slice your head off with their curvy sword.
It is ruled by a religous council of uncertain origin, the council is made up of all the major sects in the area, who have decided they hate those G'oaway scum more than each other and since All-ha and Qeuzovercoatle or willing to temporarily settle their diffrences everybody (except those bloody evil forigners) is happy.
They are also the most technially advanced state, they have access to a greek-fire like substance, though its currently only used in catapult form, Im sure somebody could invent a pump to fire the stuff. Their army is quite large, fairly well equipped but somewhat badly lead, they tend to make up for it in sheer visiousness.
In the future the actual city of Al-Khali (Which is a hundred and fourty two miles north of the current one) its a large crater that still glows at night.

Current city-states:
Al-Khali- LRR

Takrat is a steppe place, its sort of like Eastern Europe and Russia, people there tend to ride horses alot, and favor raiding tactics. Takrat is also extremly poor, even in modern times. They are rulled by a Khan, who is also mortuary, and tend to be a bit barbaric.
Their army consists mostly of cavalry, both archers and mellee, who use hit and run tactics along with pitched-battles when the odds favor them, they like to sneak in and raid/pillage/burn when nobody is looking, even amoung themselves.
Their army is fairly large, badly equipped (Hommade spears, bows, that sort of thing, unless they managed to steal soemthing good), but VERY well lead, individual soldiers often do quite well on their own.

Current City States:
Takrat- Halibris(Unconfirmed)

D'pressin is based on China/Southeast Asia, it is ruled by a hereditary Emperor, who is assassinated occasioanly, but not nearly as often as thsose in the West.
It is the second smallest state, though the largest population wise, its army is mostly made up of peasants with little motiviation and even less training, though it does of an elite corp of warriors known as (translated) Negotiators, who are very good at killing peopel and getting peasants motivated. Their generals are so-so, though there are pretty good ones, and pretty bad ones.
They tend to be very official and thorough, and once set to a task will do it until its done. Also, they are VERY obedient to authority, and respect old age.

Current City-States:
D'pressin- United Korean Nations

The Strategic Isles are based on early Africa, lots of savages, but with an first-class navy, think a mix of Carthage and Zululand. Their ships are mostly short-ranged Galleylike affairs, though there are a few deep-draft sailing vessels, these are very hard to build though, so there arent many. Although they lack a huge population they have one advantage, their entire economy is either based on trading or raiding, sometimes both.
At the drop of a ceremonial mask all their men can pick up their midgit spears and cowhide shields and march off to war, the women are used to this by now and keep things from falling apart at home. Of course, not everybody has midgit-spears and cowhide shields, some have some pretty good stuff they found (Stole) from traders off the coast.
Large army, badly equiped (with a few exceptions) no concept of any tactic other than "CHARGE!!!" on land, quite proffecient at sea-combat, including boarding actions.

Current City-States:
Port Strategic: New Sigmisund
Fasta Benj: South-Western Benjia

Feel free to make things up as you go, but try to keep the regional 'flavor' whatever it is, but if you love, say, ancient Greece, sign up as a G'oaway state, if your absolutly fascinated with Korea (Ancient, anyway) join up with..well, United Korean Nations.
Take your pick, more to come soon.

If this proves to be popular I may do more, leading up to the point where Mr 47 takes power and unifies DGNT.

Fair enough. Tell me though, how did they get off before the violence started? They sound pretty dependent on raiding.
Dontgonearthere
15-06-2004, 17:23
Its mostly a combination of tension, racism and lots of people sitting around with sharp pointy objects, and of course, after the first battle there is plenty of reason to have a second, third fourth, etc etc.
Takrat has pretty much always raided for what they need, they are essentialy barbarians, they are rather like a mix of Sparta and the Mongols, all they do is raise horses/cattle/livestock, raid, and possibly sleep.
There are a few semi-civilized cities, but they are fairly heavily defended as well (Famous Translyvania walled towns?)

And yes, though there are farms they tend to be burnt and salted by the end of the week.

I shall play the Tribe of Fasta Benj (Strategic Isles), worshippers of the Great and Glorius pTang pTang, one true god of all humanity, even those who somehow know the secrets of Fire and Metal.
calling them a city would be stretching the word a bit though.
I'll be taking some liberties and actually giving them a late roman era style of ship, rather than reed coracles.

How about a society that dwells a desolate enviroment, where the strong use bone clubs, the nimble use leather whips, those with good aim use slings, and those without such strengths perish?

Sorry for those of you who have been relocated, but we need the extra city names.

Oh, and the Dissapointed Isles are uninhabited at this point, except by some rather primitive natives who worship a giant newt, Tang'p Tang'p :P

Unnocupied 2000 years ago, try it now and youll run into several million rather bored and VERY lonely soldiers sitting on a vast arsenal of prototype bio and chemical weapons.
