United Indiastan

Out of boredom, and because I've never actually written it down, here shall the general chronology of United Indiastan be written. Now, I should mention that the idea for the nation is based upon the (obviously) real nations of India and Pakistan. That said, in order to create the nation seen today, I've decided to deviate from RL history, and jump into my own fiction. After that happens, I do not recognize RL events, as such a change in history would obviously change what ends up happening. Enjoy! ~Indy
Chronology of Present-day United Indiastan, 1900-2273*
1900 - Queen Victoria, last Empress of India, dies.
1920 - Gandhi and the Indian National Congress party begins their campaign against British colonial rule.
1947 - India gains independance, East and West Pakistan created.
1950 - India becomes a republic.
1954** - Namir Al-Zwahiri born.
1968 - Gautam Narmada and the Indian Nationalist Party comes to power, with a goal of reunifying India.
1971, May-June - Growing tensions between West Pakistan and India leads to the Six Week War. India invades, and swifty conquors West Pakistan.
1971, September - The new constitution is approved, and the Confederated Union of United Indiastan is formed. Main tenets include strict secularism, to prevent rising of religious tensions between the majority Hindus and Muslims.
1975 - The Confederated Union is opened to other regional nations, with the goal of creating a unified nation capable of resisting both US and Soviet influence. Upon opening, Bangledesh (formerly East Pakistan), Burma, and Bhutan join the Union as provinces.
1978 - Nepal joins the Union.
1986 - Sri Lanka joins.
1992 - First Indiastani in space.
2001 - Indiastan lands on the moon.
2006 - Construction begins on the first space station, Roundabout.
2012*** - Then President-for-Life Gautam Narmada dies. His Vice president and Defence Minister are both murdered shortly afterwards. Minister of the Interior, Anand Singh Sabharwal comes to power. Fearing a military coup, he actually starts a war with the Republic of New York and Jersey. Popular general Namir Al-Zwahiri is sent to lead an invasion force consisting of his Fifth Army Group. After the invasion commences, he accuses Al-Zwahiri of disobeying orders and committing atrocities, and orders his troops to arrest him. His plan backfires, and troops at home and abroad rally to support him. After working out a ceasefire with the the New Yorkers, he returns home and overthrows Sabharwal. Al-Zwahiri takes the mantle of 'Governor-General,' and promises to hand over power to a new President in general elections in a year.
2013 - Namir runs in his promised election, and wins a landslide victory. Elections continue every six years, but they become mostly ceremonial - Namir reorganizes the party system to prevent him and his Centrist party from being defeated by allowing only two opposition parties; the facist Right party, and the communist Left party. Due to both's extreme ideology, the Centrists continue to win overwhelming majorities.
2020 - 2180 - Indiastan enters a period of international isolationism. While expansion continues, little contact is made with other governments.
2029 - Indiastan continues to race into space. Original space station Farscape is taken offline, and construction on Gammak Station begins. Station is considered innovative and expenseive, as it uses recently engineered rotating hull sections to simulate gravity for its crew.
2031 - Indiastan lands on Mars, first permenant Lunar station completed.
2033 - United Indiastan Mars Colony founded, incorperated into the Union as a new province.
2040 - Phase One of Gammack Station, the shipyards, are completed. Phase Two, the Habitation sections, start construction. The first full-time, capital-scale Indiastan stellar warship, the INV Hyperion, is laid down.
2045 - Large-scale hyperspace travel tested successfully. Unfortuently, it is discovered that without a realspace beacon, navigating is impossible. The Ranger Project is started and launched, sending a dozen STL sleeper-ships out of the system to plant hyperspace beacons.
2050 - First jumpgate constructed outside of Lunar orbit. Beacons planted at Jupiter.
2062 - INV Nova laid down, first Indiastani stellar dreadnaught.
2065 - 2180 - Peroid of Indiastani colonial expansion. The UIMC continues expansion, while colonies are set up on Jovian and Uranian moons. Gammak station is towed out to Jupiter. Later the shipyards are seperated from the station, and both are expanded. The Indiastani fleet now numbers nearly seven hundred vessals of varying sizes, most being Hyperions and Novas.
2100 - Esana Hiren born.
2181**** - The Machine War, and the death of Namir. Having become senile after years of juveant life-extended treatment, Namir decideds upon waging a genocidal campaign against the Mechanical Tyranny of 01, due to some percieved slight at their ands after trade negotiations fail. The initial nuclear strikes devestate large portions of the surface of the machine city, but their amy counterattacks, devestating the Pakistani province and wiping out the Third, Sixth, and Seventh army groups. Following the fall of Islamabad, Namir commits suicide. Shortly thereafter, the machines accept Indiastan's surrender.
2182 - After nearly a year of military rule, former Agriculture Minister Esana Hiren is elected head of the Centrist party, and becomes President. He is, however, a puppet of several other Ministers and Generals, who are all under the influence of the Shadows.
2183 - Kestrel Amea born.
2183 - 2270 - Shadow influence steadily grows, culminating in the construction of bases for the Shadows to store vessals in on Mars and Ophelia in the late 2250's.
2203 - Kestrel is expelled from the Navis Nobilite after the birth of her daughter Naomi.
2218 - INV Omega launched.
2220 - Kestrel rejoins the Navis.
2221 - Aaric Clerebold born.
2239 - INV Warlock is launched. The Nova class is phased out, and the original Omegas are upgraded to Omega-II's. Adrianna Nelson born.
2247 - INV Deimos launched. The Hyperion class is repalced.
2254 - INV Primus launched, replacing the Omega-II.
2259 - Adrianna Nelson meets Kestrel Amea. Kestrel eventually adopts Adrianna as her sister. Indiastan joins the NDA.
2260 - January - InterPlanetary Exploration corp. discovers Vorlon Prime. A mission is sent out, Kestrel Amea amongst the crew. The ship is lost shortly after landing. Kestrel returns with the Vorlon Alkesh.
2260 - April - Kestrel kills Anika Rast, and assumes the mantle of Matriarch of the Navis. Rast was rated by the Navis telepath ranking system as a P9, on a scale of ten. Kestrel, orignally rated a P5, manifests abilites off the chart - it is speculated that she would rate anywhere from P15 or above. Naomi, Kestrel's estranged daughter, resurfaces as Rast's apprentice. She flees the scene after her mistress' death.
2260 - June - Kestrel marries President Esana Hiren.
2260 - August - President Hiren reestablishes Indiastan as an empire, creating the new Confederated Imperial Union. The upper eschelons of government are rearraged accordingly, and Esana takes the title of Maharaj, or Emperor.
2261 Kestrel gives birth to Esana's first son, Anjasa.
2266 - May - At Kestrel's urging, Esana secretly orders a purge of the Shadow influence of Indiastan, in an operation dubbed 'Songbird.' The tunnels below Delhi are stormed, and the Drakh emmisaries are slain. Simultaniously, nuclear warheads are detonated inside the Shadow bases on Mars and Ophelia, destroying both. All of the ministers and generals who are suspected of dealing with the shadows are brought in for questioning, and all found guilty are killed.
2266 - June - In an act of vengence, Emperor Hiren is assassinated and the Indiastani fleet is devestated. Empress Amea assumes control. Mothballed Omega-IIs return to service. Adrianna Nelson appointed ambassador to the NDA.
2267 - Ahkmed Desai is relieved from his duties as Chancellor by the Empress. He is replaced by the Defence Minister, Aaric Clerebold.
2273 - The C'tan-Indiastan treaty is signed in order to relieve the stress placed upon Indiastan by the burdens of it's population and military. Defence spending is curtailed as the army is reorganized to be more defence-minded, with little thought to large-scale offensive actions. Free trade, military protection and financial support fromthe C'tan comes at a price, however, and Indiastan effectivly becomes a protectorate. Queen Amea, now, continues the reign domesticly, but has her international bargining ability reduced. The agreement is kept quiet, though there is plenty of animosity amongst several older government figures, paticularly from Anjasa's tutor, Dr. Devash Latha.

Empress of Indiastan, Kestrel Amea

Born: September 9, 2183, unknown.
Age: 99
Kestrel, a telepath, was an orphan. She was sent to the Navis Nobilite, a telepath school, when she manifiested her abilites at age twelve. At age sixteen, she was selected to be part of the Ghost program; a paramilitary organization made up entirely of telepaths, nominally run by the Navis. At age twenty, she accidentally becomes pregnant. After her baby is born and taken by the Navis, she is expelled. Several year later, she would rejoin as a solo operative, rather then as a member of a Ghost squad. She would perform three sucessful missions, and adopt Adrianna Nelson as her sister before leaving Earth on an IPE mission to Vorlon Prime. There, she would enter the service of the Vorlon, had her abilities increased, and began "carrying" the Vorlon Alkesh. She then returned to Earth, and within a year had taken over the Navis. She would go on to marry President Hiren, and them become Empress.

Born: November 15, 2239, People's Federation of Marshall Island.
Age: 34
Adrianna lost her parents when she was young, and was raised an orphan. After living homeless for two years, she met Kestrel Amea by chance. The two became fast friends, and after living together for a year, Kestrel adopted Adrianna as her sister. After Kestrel gained power in Indiastan, Princess Adrianna joined the Diplomatic Corps, eventually leading to her appointment to the NDA's headquarters on Unity Island.

Born: June 10, 2221, Confederated Union of United Indiastan
Age: 72
Aaric was born into a military family, and as such after high school he joined up the Army as an officer candidate. He proved to be an excellent tactician and strategist, and rose through the ranks quickly. Rather the taking a position with the Joint Chiefs, he is nominated as Defence Minister by President Hiren, following the tradition that the position be given to a former officer. In 2263, the Empress promoted him to suceed the Ahkmed Desai as Chancellor of Indiastan, the first citizen originally of English decent to hold the position.
Naomi Amea (commonly uses Rast as her surname)
Born: October 21st, 2203, Confederated Union of United Indiastan
Age: 70
Naomi was born out of wedlock between Kestrel and Ramesh Datla. She was taken in by the Navis at birth, and tutored by the Headmistress Anika Rast personally, since it was her birth that led to the expulsion of one of the Navis's best agents, Kestrel Amea. Rast had intended to train Naomi to eventually replace her mother, even though after some time a reconcilliation was reached. This plan was cut short, however, by Kes's disobediant disappearence, and Anika's death shortly after her return. Naomi went into hiding, and has been planning on how to take her revenge on Kestrel, since she is unaware that Kes is infact her mother. It is doubtful, even if she learned this, that she'd change her mind.
Anjasa Hiren
Born: March 8th, 2261, Confederated Union of United Indiastan
Age: 12
Anjasa is Kestrel's first son and second child, born shortly after her marriage to President Hiren. Legally, he is the Heir, and as such is duly protected. His primary tutor is Dr. Devash Latha, a noted Nationalist, and one of the more outspoken critics of the C'tan-Indiastan treaty. It's as yet unclear how much of his views he's imparted upon Kestrel's son, but Anjasa become eligible to inherit in four years, and some of the more paranoid have whipsered that he may be used as a tool to fully restore Indiastani independance.
