Beep beep bepp
A tiny probe, about a foot across, and yet jam packed with all the latest in sensor equipment, floated gently through the void. It didnt have a destination in mind, for one thing it had no mind to put it in, for another it was off course.
This rather irritated the probe, since its entire existance was dedicated to going where it had been told to, and observing things. It didnt really know WHAT it was supposed to observe, it figured that part was mostly up to it.
It tumbled end over end, its solar panels folded for now, running on battery power and the remains of its antimatter fuel, there wasnt enough to get to its set destination, so it figured it might as well see where it was headed.
Something clicked.
Beep beep beep
Now THAT was odd, the probe thought.
It checked its maps.
Yes...there was a fleet where there shouldnt be one.
It was very large, one might call it an armada, the word fit nicely. A few size comparisons, detailed scans and catalouges later the probe compressed all the data down to a few megabytes of text and sent it off to the nearest listinig post. Soon after the packet left the probe it entered hyperspace, traveling a good deal faster than light, and began its journy to the post.
The probe continued to record, until it noticed a ship detached from the fleet.
Well, the probe bleeped to itself, maybe something interesting will happen now.
Beep beep be-

Three months later
"Sir, we have a report, LRP 532 has reported back." A sweating man in a specialists uniform jogged up to the current head of the Long Range Probe division of the DGNT Exploration Corps and pressed a damp sheet of plastic into his hand.
Thank gods somebody switched over from paper, Major Thorn thought to himself, otherwise this bloody report would be undreadable.
He tried to clear some of the damp away with his sleeve, but only succeded in smearing it around the page.
"Well...532, wasnt that the one we lost? Went off course and failed to receive its self-destruct order?"
"Yessir, the location data indicates its actually managed to move itself outside the Galaxy, sir, its was about to pass out of range..."
"Was?"
"Sir, it was destroyed, this is the last image it transmitted."
Another damp sheet of plastic was pressed into Thorns hand, this one showed...
Well...
It looked vaugly like the unwanted offspring of a shark and a bicycle, a gaping jaw and spoked rings near the bottom, down its 'throat' was darkess.
I know that ship, thought Thorn, he'd seen it in his history classess...
"Get me CentCom, now..."
"Sir?'
"NOW!!!"
The aide bustled off.

Subject: Possible Kyrr invasion

Body:
Recent probe reports indicate a large fleet, which appears to be compsed of forces from the former Kyrr 'Empire' gathered outside the Galaxy, due to the age of the report they fleet may be as much as three quarters of the way here.
Suggest immidiate action, alert allies and prepare for invasion.

DNN, your source for totally unbiased news strictly controlled by the govornment
Today the President announced that DGNTs boarders have been CLOSED until further notice, all forigners with the exception of embassy personell have been givin 48 hours to pack up and leave, diplomatic personell are currently requested to stay inside their embassy.
The govornment asks that you obey these requests....on pain of pain.

DGNT Notice to All States
As of now Dontgonearthere is recalling ALL of its fleets to the Empire for retrofitting and resupply, we request that you allow passage through your territories for a more direct return to Imperial space. Thank you.

Mr. 47's office
"The Kyrr are back...again?"
"Yes, your Lordship, err...in force."
"Why were they not dealt with the FIRST time?"
"I...do not know...sir."
"Well, leave and find somebody who does."
The clerk looked down to where a small Terrier was attacking his leg. This was rather innefective since it was extremly elderly and had no teeth.
"And run a bath, if you would."
"Yessir. Err...he is a rather nice dog, sir." The clerk mumbled wretchedly, wondering how to get dog-smell out.
"He's seventeen you know."
"Really?"
"Yes. Thats almost 120 in dog years."
"Amazing...I must go now sir, I have..." Shake shake "Reports to file."
Mr 47 watched the clerk leave, then swivled his chair back around.
"These certainly are interesting times..." He said, scratchign Wuffles behind the ear.

INFO FROM PREVIOUS WARS:
These are all direct copy/paste and OOC, unless I actually send it to you ICly.

DATAFILE: Kyrr (S10,542)
STAT:
Name: Kyrr
Classification: Cyborian
Height: 5'3
Weight: 350lbs
Description: Varied species as well as 'natural' Kyrr come under this class. The Kyrr 'assimilate' new species via nerual surgery, replacing many organs with cybernetic or geneticaly engineered parts. Once completed subjects come under the influence of 'The Many', as the Hive mind that controls them refers to itself as.
The entire species shows startling resistance to all bio/chemical weapons deployed against them, and the only known weakness is electrical based attacks (EMP, 'lightning' guns) as well as simple ballistic/laser weapons.
The species is organized into 'hives', a single hive is one ship, all ships report to each other to make descisions. Their communication method is unkown, but it appears to excede lightspeed in its paths to other hives. Current attempts to reproduce it have failed.
Reproduction is accomplished by planting seed ships on a planet, once planted a ship 'roots' and establishes a 'citadel', essentialy a giant factory.
The citadel mines all avalible resources and creates large numbers of ships, personel and other material.
Each Kyrr ship then takes off to another point on the planet, establishes a new citadel and begins to mine out local resources. Then repeats the process again and again until the planet is entirly consumed, down to the core.
The ships then take off for a new planet, and repeat.
The species was wiped out by the Dontgonearthere fleet in the first use of a Dessicator weapon on a large scale.

Recon reports on Kyrr space:
(A camera clicks a few times, then a pilots face appears)
Empty. Quite simply, there is nothing. Three spacial bodies have been detected, one was a huge Kyrr fortress, this is possibly to oldest member of the speices, all speculation at this point. The local element measurements are all near to zero, with an average of one molocule per ten yards of space.
The other two bodies are a large, very, very hot sun, and a black hole. The former had a huge cluster of Kyrr ships surrounding it, whether they are absorbing it or photosynthisising or whatever, I have no idea.
I am going to perform a detailed scan of the large ship, moving now."
Nothing happens for a few minutes.
"Whats that...it seems to be launcing...things."
The camera turns, and several ships with huge 'mouths' begin to move toward the pilots ship.
"God, they look...ugh, disgusting. Im getting out now." The ship turns, but suddenly stops.
"Oh GOD, its...absorbing the ship, gotta move fast. Initiating auto destruct, if anybody finds this, take care of my dog." He slams a button and the camera goes black.
This Datapod was recovered near Pax VI

Dessicator Datafile:

The Dessicator works by shearing the hydrogen molocules off of the oxygen molocules in water. These two elements then combust due to the energy released by the reaction, the reaction continues until all water on a planet is consumed, including that which is currently inside living beings, or until it is stopped by a solid barrier.
The unit is deployed from orbit around the planet, it then powers up, taking roughly five minutes to build up a charge suffcient to fire, it then triggers an overload through the main firing crystal, which explodes, the energy is channeled downward, and once it comes in contact with the surface of the planet, triggers its chain reaction.
The estimated time for the reaction to consume a planet of roughly Earth size is one hour. The weapon is obviously somewhat less effective against non-oxygen based worlds, but still has some effect, though it may not consume the entire planet.

All desicator units are fitted with self destruct devices, if any is brought within five thosand miles (The maximum Dessicator range is 500 miles) it self destructs, any tampering with the device will also result in destruction. The device will also detonate if brought within 5000 miles of any DGNT Empire world.

OOC:
A Doughnut is the term used by vetrans of the first Kyrr war for what is officialy known as a Warzone Control Craft. The entire thing is basicaly a huge (Huge as in fourty miles from end to end) flattened sphere with a hole in the middle. It carries an obscene amount of fighters, and in fact houses capital ships (Sort of like Motherships from Home World). There were ten at the time of the DGNT invasion.
The construction is one of the main challenges in destroying the things. They are basicaly made up of elevator tubes, connecting to redundant systems, including multiple bridges. If you hit one, your blast will either pass through (relativly small mass for something that big) or do very little damage. Its a design I considered implimenting myself a few times , anyway, the only real vulnerable spots are the engines and power core.

The Imperial battle ship "Venomous" along with the fleet under it’s command hovered over Patrios, a planet recently torn by religious conflicts until the Imperial army informed them that such things are not tolerated in areas officially belonging to Imperial Space.
For the past three years the Imperial army had been busy pacifying the planet. Now new orders were received.

‘Admiral, good work on restoring order to the planet.’
‘Thank you Marshall, though I believe that the congratulations are more meant for Lord General Vergov, he did admirable work on the surface.’
‘Indeed’ the holograph replied though evidently not really listening, ‘Lord General I believe that the pacification is complete?’
‘With faith in God and the Imperial might we have destroyed this hot bed of heretics and traitors!’ the political officer proudly stated before the General even got a chance to reply.
‘As our Commissar stated Marshal, the main forces are destroyed and I believe that a small garrison will be enough to enforce order.’ The general stated.
‘Good. A local power had decreed all foreigners save political representatives are to leave their territories. We do not know the reason though you are to be ready to intervene in case they will attempt anything that is a threat to the Empire. Strategic information have already been sent. If necessary reinforcements will be supplied., though you are to wait until you receive orders, For the Empire!’

It was a small system. Unremarkable in every way, containing only one gasgiant with 2 moons and a ring of debry from a third. But today that would chance as a small fleet of vessels came out of warp and proceeded towards the planet while some spread out to catch comets and asteroids that were flying through the system.

It was a fleet of Species 1, here to restructure yet another system so that it could serve them optimally. It was a small fleet consisting of 75 scoutvessels and 50 cubes because they did not expect problems so close to the edge of the galaxy.

Captain's suite, SKZBB-Waakzaamheid
Admiral Van Cleef leaned back from the vidscreen, his mind trying to encompass what he had just been told. "Their ENTIRE fleet, sir?"

On-screen, Grand Admiral Levisk nodded solemnly. "Correct, Admiral. We don't know what the DGNT are up to. Either something's got them scared pantless or their making a move against someone. Your orders are this: monitor DGNT activities and find out whats going on. If they ARE making a move, find out against who and act accordingly. I will expect reports at regular intervals."

"Yes, Admiral." The screen flicked off, leaving Van Cleef to ponder the situation alone. As commander of the Long Range Fleet, it was his job to monitor the ingress and egress of ships through and around Skeelzanian space as well as local military matters. One of the most powerful fleets in the galaxy being abruptly recalled was disconcerting, to say the least. Leaning across his desk, he punched the comm button. "Attention, all ships are hereby upgraded to Yellow Alert. Jump orders will be issued within 0500 hours..."

Five hours later...
Standing on the Waakzaamheid's bridge, Van Cleef surveyed his fleet. Comprosied mostly of corvettes and cruisers, the heart of the Long Range Fleet was the Targaryen class battleship he now commanded. Though sluggish compared to the cruisers of his youth, he was grateful for the extra umpf in the weapons department. But enough musing. Van Cleef gave the order, and the Long Range Fleet entered hyperspace.

While the chance of diplomatic incident, the Admiral felt that he could only succesfully monitor the DGNT if he was closer to them. Besides, its not like the high command had expressly ordered him to maintain position. They would reemerge one real-day later, near the border of DGNT space. With any luck, his fleet might be able to discern what was going on in the Superhappyfuntime Empire...

The Many surveyed its enemies through the eyes of the crews of its ships...
This enemy was so much like itself, it was a hive, it was close to the perfect order sought by The Many throughout the Universe, but alas, it would either submit, be forcefully joined to The Many, or be removed.
The semi-organic ship began transmitting to the Species 1 Fleet...
"Submit to The Many. Join us in purification of Universe. Join or fall forever...all will join...or die. Reasonable pensions to those who submit early in the Purification.
KKKKKKKKKKKKYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!"
The 'shout' echoed not only over the transmitter, but out in waves of psychic power, seeking weak points in any minds it struck, then bending their will to The Many.

DGNT Boarder, Dominus System
OOC: Or wherever you want...I just figured Dominus was best, since its the closest DGNT system that you can see from the outside. I would explain about Pax, but it would take a while...

IC:
Three Justice class destroyers flashed into existance a few thosand meters from the Skeelzanian ships, the tenth group so far.
This brought to total number of ships that had passed into Dominus to fourty two, not including the 'semi-civilian' exploration ships, which while heavily armed for their class would not be very much help in a firefight.

OOC2:
About the 'shout'...
This is basicaly a Kyrr first strike weapon, it is capable of turning most humanoids minds into mush fairly quickly, though some people show resistance.
Unfourtunatly there is no way to 'cure' the victim, since changes begin at the cellular level almost immidiatly after 'infection'.

"Attention people of the Universe, greetings from Dontgonearthere. Those who have met me know that politics is not my forte', so I will get to the point.
The Kyrr, a xenocidal alien race, are back. After the first two wars we beleived them to be erradicated, but apparently some part has survived, and the Kyrr demonstrate an amazing ability to heal. At this point we feel the need to alert all the people who this may effect, meaning everybody.
The Kyrr do not stop for anything, they do not negotiate, pity or surrender, they simply consume.
The President has authorized me to create a temporary alliance of nations, both 'modern' and 'future', to combat this threat, an alliance for Earth and the many species that dwell there.
Those who wish to join this alliance for the better sharing of strategic data, supply routs and other wartime related whatsits will please send a representative to Dontgonearthere.
Hurry, current data indicates that the Kyrr have reached the edge of the Milky Way galaxy, and are currently being held by an unkown species. The estimated time that the main Kyrr fleet will arrive at Earth, if they do not stop to take any other systems, is four to five weeks.
As a gesture of friendship Dontgonearthere has relased all data on the Kyrr to the public, as well as attaching it to this message.

One of the newest LRRSF ships, the LRRSV ZZ Top, cruises in space near where long-range tachyon sensors had detected "a large fleet-like disturbance."

Such a discovery always required on-the-scene inspection because tachyon sensors are notoriously unreliable if anything but perfectly maintained.

Several weeks earlier, automatic sensors outpost X-9932 had turned its tachyon sensors on to see a fleet where it should not have been. The station immediately signaled the nearest ship, which happened to be the ZZ Top, a new Dire Straits class frigate, right out of Shipyard Station 3, a deepspace shipyard and outpost.

So they had been prowling the galactic rim for this phantom fleet for quite some time, until one day.....

*Plays Monty Python & The Holy Grail Instrumental*

"Uh, sir, contacts."
"Eh? What've we got here?"
"A large group of ships out in this area." The sensors operator points out the area on the holographic plot, forgetting that his captain, a robot, had already sized up the picture pretty well.
"It seems our work here is done. Franz! Deploy a probe. Helm, set a course for the nearest outpost."
"Aye-aye, mon capitain!"

A small, circular probe shoots out from the ZZ Top, headed towards the un-ID'd fleet.

Oh great, just another menial task for the old probe, thought the probe. They'll just leave me out here to die, I presume. What did I expect? You can't trust those railgun subsystems as far as you can hack 'em, that's for certain.

Initiating Emotional Systems Override

The little probe hurtles towards the un-ID'd fleet at high speed as it moves ever closer to the milky way. It records a stream of data, which it passes to its parent frigate until the ZZ Top blinks into hyperspace.

In a small listening post, built into the side of an ancient freighter wrecked in space, a trio of warmly-clad technicians sit in a side room, playing poker.

"So I sez to him, 'Tom, you's obviously high, judgin' by that fake beard and pair o' green eyeshades you's wearin.' I did not realize it at the time, but I was wearin' my waders and a deerstalker cap, so I was probably high as well."
"Fold."
"You can't fold."
"Who says?"
"I....hey, what's Fedor up to?"
"I'll go check."

One of the technicians detaches himself from the velcro chair and floats up into the spacious sensors room, to find his companion feverishly flicking dials and twisting knobs.

"Fedor...."

The technician looks at the tactical plot, and watches as a convoy of DGNT ships high-tails it through the area.

"Ah, I see."

In the DGNT capital city, ambassador Kivver Linseed passes through the doorway of the LRR embassy there. He had heard about the travel restrictions by loudspeaker during his morning stroll, and hobbled back to the embassy in record time.

One of the ambassadorial staff, a robot named Xiithir, tosses a file of information marked "Secret-Do Not Steal" in red letters.

He leafs through the papers, which, he gathers, try to explain the DGNT government's actions.

"Ehm.... pop in that new U2 CD, would you?"

Meanwhile, back on Shipyard Station three, the HQ of the out-of-sol LRRSF units, data streams in from the thousands of sensors outposts and listening stations run by the LRRSF, as well as frigates and cruisers.

The reports indicate that the movement of a large fleet of ships, data on which is scarce, is possibly causing the recall of many DGNT ships. The LRRSF just had to get to the bottom of this, of course.

The news of a xenocidal alien race invading the galaxy landed in Skeelzot City like a bombshell. Although the Skeelzanian's had a fair bit of alien blood on their hands, the thought of some extra-galactic abomination invading their galaxy was abhorrent. While the Principality's leadership was skeptical of DGNT's claims, all agreed that it was better to be safe than sorry. To that effect, the following statement was released:

"People of Skeelzania, we are well aware of the grevious threat the Kyrr pose to us all. We urge you to remain calm however. As this message is broadcasted, orders are being distrubited throughout the armed forces. All Fleet ships have been upgraded to Orange Alert, and reservists should stand-by in case of call-up. But please, remain calm.

In response to Dontgonearthere's call to arms, the Principality of Skeelzania answers whole-heartily. Our people stand ready to crush the Kyrr threat, and cast them back into the cold void from whence they came."

Van Cleef personally read the statement over the ship's address system, which was picked up by every other ship in the fleet. As the final word ended, the ships exploded with activity, as captains ordered Orange Alert protocols initated.

Message to DGNT Fleet:
Our leadership has thrown their full support behind your Alliance against the Kyrr. We have received orders that we are to attach ourselves to your fleet, with your permission of course. If coordinates are provided, a rendevous with the Skeelzanian Combined Fleet can be arranged.

'Interesting.' that was all that came out of the Lord Admirals mouth as the reports came in, the Kyrr appeared to be a formidable ally. Of course the Admiral did not doubt that the Imperial could handle it, only it would need a lot of men and ships. Though for the time being it appeared that the DGNT were the xeno's main target. Though once finished with them who would be next? Besides that they dared attack Terra, humanities origin! That in itself was sacrilege.
Even as the Lord Admiral pondered over the matter the Imperial Senate was discussing the problem, though no one doubted for a second what they would decide as the Emporer himself was present.
After an hour of discussion the senate reached an agreement witch was presented to the Emperor, now he would decide what to do. All eyes were on the old man as he rose, despite his fifty years he still kept himself straight, his gothic armor covered in a black robe and a hood hiding his face he gave his decision on the matter.
'The Kyrr are a threat, if not stopped now there strength will grow. Also we cannot allow them to threaten Terra. As such the Empire of Athel Nora will send a fleet, the Kyrr Crusade is launched.'
Orders were given, the first to move was the "Venomous" fleet it's members now crusaders sent to defend humanities planet of origin.
Other fleets from the Segmentum Setietas were placed in combat readiness.

Message to the DGNT,
The Empire has decided to support the fight against the Kyrr, our fleet will arrive in a week standard time with reinforcements arriving in a further 2-3 week period time.

OOC: I forgot to post my factbook (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=148092). Basically Species is neither humanoid nor biological in nature as they are in fact an artificial lifeform.

IC: The Kyrr were picked up as they entered the system and Species 1 received their message. The psychic wave however washed over them without any effect, it was not even noticed as Species 1 is blind to psychic powers and are not even certain of their existence. They reacted by sending 4 spheres to the surface where they began to construct factories and machineries which spread over the surface suprisingly rapid.

The rest of the scouts now phased out of normal space and into B-space while the warvessels moved towards the fleet, accompanied by the following message, spoken in an emotionless voice which was clearly artificial:
*We are Species 1 and this is our system. Remove yourself from our space or be destroyed. Resistance is futile.*

All the while they made detailed scans of the enemy ships to determine what their capabilities and weaknesses were.
Dontgonearthere

DGNT thanks all nations who are currently acting, the Kyrr appear to have been delayed for a breif time, this may provide enough breathing room to establish a defence fleet and prepare for the invasion.
Remember, once the Kyrr arrive in system, DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO LAND, Kyrr infestations are near impossible to remove, and a seedship can construct a Citadel overnight.

---

The Many considered the message only briefly.
First it launched a wave of war ships, strangly formed cruisers, destroyers, and other classess, all still bearing some resemblance to their old form.
Each of these launched its own fighters, tiny pimples in space, they did not reflect light in the usual manner of a spacecraft, they almost appeared to eat it.

Once the first wave of ships was well on its way The Many dispatched a second wave of similar content, followed by a flanking force of Seedships, attempting to sneak past to the moons and establish a forward base.

Ambassador Kivver Linseed immediately sends a transmission to the DGNT government upon the embassy's recieval of the international message.

To DGNT Government

You have the full support of LRR in this Kyrr invasion. The LRRMFs are at your disposal. Please contact admiral Ix, commander of the roving fleets, as soon as possible.

Your Friend, Ambassador K. Linseed et. al.

Shipyard Station 3 buzzes with activity, as endless streams of data from listening posts, probes, automated sensors outposts, and supply stations continue pouring in.

The crews of most listening posts in "unprotected or exposed areas" evacuate via their specialized corvettes, able to carry only six, but equipped with a frigate hyperdrive. Ten listening posts and three automatic sensors outposts had ceased transmission, and there was no de-activation warning to signal an evacuation. They are presumed lost.

Admiral Ix rushes into the bridge of the LRRSV Stevie Ray Vaughn, his command dreadnaught, as it speeds out of its berth at SYS-3. The large, heavily-armed, bannana-shaped dreadnaught heads towards the galactic rim, accompannied by 10 battlecruisers and several freighters.

"So, what are we doing now?"
"The Kyrr are invading, sir."
"Are they?"
"Yes, sir. In this area, not at all far away. It's a large fleet, though. Its in a position to overrun our garrison in the Vibro system."
"Helm, where are we headed now?"
"To the rendezvous point at asteroid field G-88."

The Stevie Ray Vaughn and escorts disappear into hyperspace, bound for a small mining station chosen for the fleet RV point.

Back at Sol, the LRRSF defenses are put on high alert. Weapons platforms are activated, and swarms of ships prepare to repell any Kyrr invasion.

But Ix's fleet was tasked with preventing the Kyrr from ever reaching earth. The roving fleets were the pride of the LRRSF, nomadic groups of ships tasked with exploration and whatever missions they could find, as well as combat.

The planets in the Vibro system, however, were going to fall unless something big was done really fast. While the Kyrr were, according to the small amounts of available information, being held back, a small 'raiding party' of sorts seems poised to explore the system.

On Vibro IIX, the icy eighth planet in the rocky, cold, Vibro system, Lieutenant Mikhail Mikhailovich looks out the viewport near the top of the tall quad ion cannon tower at the various anti-orbital weapons towers and bunkers all over the relatively small planet. A group of destroyers, led by a light cruiser, forms the planet's defensive fleet. Two of the destroyers were in repair from a clash with a Kyrr recon element, three were collecting archaeological and mining teams from further inside the system, and another two were off evacuating listening posts.

And they were not due to come back, reducing the defensive fleet to a mere six ships, not counting the 200-odd fighters and 30 or so corvettes assigned to the system.

All non-essential personnel had been evacuated to the Shipyard Stations, much better equipped to deal with the Kyrr threat than the Vibro system defenders.

Mikhailovich notices a regiment of Uhlans troopers training on the icy surface in full armor, carrying plasma weaponry and accompanied by hovertanks. The pitiful thing was that he, a lieutenant, barely qualified to command a frigate, was now the system governor.

An Uhlans corporal walks up the final spiral staircase, leading to the gun gallery in the anti-orbital tower.

"Lieutenant!"

He carries a piece of paper in his hand, which he thrusts at Mikhailovich, clearly exhausted at the long climb.

"Corporal, we are to be evacuated."
"Yes, sir. All units have been alerted. There's supposed to be a section of carriers coming for us in a couple days."
"Good, where is colonel Hamilton?"
"Out there, sir."

He points to the flowing gaggle of Uhlans troopers, which now seems to be breaking up.

The planet's large and spacious hangars are rigged with explosives as the destroyers undergoing repair are launched into space as they are. The gun emplacments are set on automatic, and the system defense platforms are turned over to the 'skeleton garrison' of ten technicians based in a small asteroid near the edge of the system.

IC:
The Kyrr fighters began to return fire with a variety of weapons, each one seemed to be from a differnt species, some even appeared to be heavily modified in-system 'space shuttles' mounting chemically powered slugthrowers.
As the capitol ships closed those that had them opened up with ion cannons, seeking to disable enemys for inspection and possible incorporation into the Many.

The drones easily dodged those slugs and the warvessels shrugged them of. The ion cannons likewise found no good target as no drone had yet lost shielding. All these different weapon systems made it a bit hard to adapt which meant that their shields weakened steadily. A few drones however got hit by the more powerful weaponry and were destroyed.

Now that the capital ships got in range, the warvessels fired with their focused energy beams as well accompanied by the launch of 300 compressed antimatter missiles. Meanwhile the drones picked off the weakest fighters and heavily modified in-system 'space shuttles' by working in teams of 4.

Now the scouts also threw their weight into the fight. 20 of them phased back into space right behind the Seedships and opened fire with their plasma bolts and focused energy beams at point blank range.
The other 50 appeared behind the Kyrr ships attacking the warvessels and attacked them in a similar fashion but they also launched their drones.

These 1000 moved towards the second wave and also attacked them in groups of 4 with their focused energy beams. They moved quickly and manoeuvred widly to avoid getting hit by enemy fire.

Admiral Ix arrives at the RV point to find a gaggle of frigates and battlecruisers eagerly awaiting his group's entrance, but no Admiral Kucinich.

"Where is Admiral Kucinich? I thought he would be here."

Just then, a sub-etha transmission comes through from the LRRSV Psycho Derelict, admiral Kucinich's ship.

"This is the Psycho Derelict, calling the Stevie Ray Vaughn. We are headed towards sol with the DGNT fleet to reinforce their defense, over."

The message ends, and Ix looks out from the bridge of his bananna-shaped dreadnaught at the cloud of ships assembled before him.

"Alrighty, then."
"The Kyrr fleet should be in this area," says the tachyon sensors operator from his display pit.
"Helm, set a course for the Kyrr fleet. All ships, prepare for transmission of hyperspace coordinates."

The entire fleet is given the hyperspace orders, and every ship responds as go.

"All ships are go, sir."
"Engage hyperspace drives!"

The fleet blinks into hyperspace, leaving their rapidly diminishing h-space signatures behind.

Some while later, the fleet arrives at the battle between Kyrr forces and Species 1 ships.

The battle soon comes up on the holographic tactical plot, and the fleet prepares for action.

"All ships, assume battle formation. Prepare for a full torpedo barrage once in range."
"Attention all friendly ships, this is the 1st LRRSF battlefleet. We are preparing to engage the Kyrr fleet with a torpedo barrage, but do not plan to stay long. Do you copy, over?"

The 1st BF leaves its freighters and science/hospital ships behind as the combat elements head in towards the Kyrr armada.

The LRRSF ships close with the Kyrr armada, still a little over 1,000,000 km distant, and fire their torpedos at a little under maximum range.

The Stevie Ray Vaughn empties its six 5,000 torp bays rather quickly, followed by the 25 total battlecruisers in the 1st BF and then the frigates. The torpedos streak at the Kyrr armada at just under the speed of light, carrying a variety of warheads. The 1st BF continues inwards, until it closes to within gun range of the Kyrr ships. So far, the torps and the Species 1 fleet had kept them busy, but now the fleet started to take fire. Weapons blasts and beam weapons fire could be seen arcing off the shields of ships. Some frigates had already lost their shields, and are escorted back by squadrons of Pinafore class corvettes.

The BCs and dreadnaughts tear through Kyrr escort ships, and the frigates begin to tangle with the survivors. The Vaughn slows down and begins combat manouvering, along with the BCs, directing antimatter cannon fire at the most powerful Kyrr ships while warding off the smaller ones with ion and plasma cannon fire. The torpedo strike had done damage to the escort and smaller ships, but they could not make out the extent to which the larger Kyrr warships are damaged.

Formations of Hurricane II fighters begin launching from their parent vessels, and head over to support the frigates.

"This is arrow flight, engaging targets."
"Copy that, arrow. We're right behind you."

The BC LRRSV Jimmy Page plows through the battle area behind its 60 fighters, flanked by a group of frigates. Their objective is to link up with the Species 1 fleet.

The attack had not yet lost any ships, but the largest Kyrr warships were not in their neighborhood just yet. Weather this was because torpedo strikes and long-range antimatter cannon hits had really damaged them, or because they were not concerned about the 1st BF was not apparent.

Meanwhile, back on Vibro IIX, a squadron of freighters lands on the planet's surface just as Kyrr ships begin arriving.

The system defense fleet engages, drawing the Kyrr away from the evac ships, but the defense fleet is already badly outnumbered.

"Board the freighters!"

Lieutenant Mikhailovich urges the Uhlans troopers and planetary personnel into the gaping holds of the freighters, exposed by large loading ramps. The entire garrison, save the small skeleton force, is soon safely on its way to Shipyard Station seven.

Meanwhile, admiral Kucinich's detachment arrives at sol, along with its DGNT escort force.

"This is the Psycho Derelict calling DGNT fleet command, where do you want us, over?"

Leo I Group--Cala (M96) Galaxy--Caladan System

The flagship of the Combined Five Civilized Nations Navy, the Nahel Argama II, a massive 12.5 kilometer long vessel, drifted slowly through space, easily dwarfing the smaller vessels flanking it on both sides. On the bridge, Grand Admiral Horatio Gates Nelson nervously paced the deck, waiting for the warpgate to complete its charging. The more than a hundred vessels of the Combined Five Civilized Nations 1st Fleet waited impatiently.

Although all of the vessels possessed powerful hyperdrives, they were slow compared with the more efficient warp gates. Thus, the entire 1st Fleet waited for the warp gate to charge.

After what seemed to be an interminable wait of three hours, the warp gate was ready. Slowly it powered up and one by one, the vessels of the 1st Fleet entered the warp gate, heading for the Sol System and Terra, to heed the cries of assistance from an ancient ally...

OOC: Sol system, its their main target.

IC:
"Pyscho Derilict, please form with the Sol Home Defence Force, their tracking beacon is blue, red, blue. Thats the flashing lights around the ships. For further information contact DNS Pestilence, cant miss it, its the one about the size of a city with the four really big guns on the front. If you need resupply you are authorized to dock with Skyhook IV, same identifier code."

"FNC group, please respond and confirm, your current assigned position is fifteen hundred miles galactic West of the North pole, once in position you wil receive a DGNT fleet attache, and possibly representatives from other fleets, thanks for showing up, ground control out. If you need ressuply, contact Skyhook IV, they just got a new shipment of supplies."

Above Earth, unnoticed by any of the fleets a very, very small ship floated.
It was aboud the size of a clenched fist, but had almost the same amount of equipment the DGNT probe from before had mounted.
Right now it was happy, mostly because the air was so full of transmissions that it could hardly keep track of them, and there was nothing the little probe liked more than to be busy.
As with most Kyrr, it had a little autonomy, it would move out of the way if a hypothetical truck were about to run it over, it would run if vastly outnumbered and not told to stay, it lacked higher functions, to be sure, but what good were those? They just made things unhappy, look at the Many's central brain, the thing had been worried for about a hundred and fifty years, ever since those damn monkey-things had shattered the Kyrr empire.'
THe little probe sat there, relaying everything it heard back to the Many.

Down on Earth a noticable change had overcome Dontgonearthere, for one thing the Desert had about a hundred little black stars on it. Closer inspection would reveal that these were Guardian defence platforms, ready to intercept anything within 5000 miles that was inside the atmosphere.
Secondly the domed cities were glowing. Closer inspection of THESE would show that each was surrounded by a very powerful looking energy shield, this was confirmed by the fact that during sandstorms there was a constant red haze about ten feet from the domes, and nothing within that. By the next morning most of the cities were surrounded by small fields of glass.

OOC:
Kyrr transmissions are pretty much undetectable, unless you have a really good psychic in the line of the transmission.
Most Kyrr are psychic, its how they communicate, but they have evolved a way to send thoughts into hyperspace, presumably stolen from another species.

OCC: DGNT, could you RP the Kyrr reaction to my attack on the fleet, which is currently engaged with the less hugely sized Kyrr vessels? I'd feel better if you RP'd it.

IC:

"Roger that control."

The Psycho Derelict forms up with the Sol Home Defense force. Kucinich's detatchment is small because of the fact that there is a large LRRSF concentration around earth. Many earth defense force ships join the detachment. However, the best ships are given to Ix and the roving fleets, who needed that kind of quality above all else.

Speaking of Ix, he is back at the engagment with the Kyrr fleet. The 1st BF continues engaging the Kyrr vessels, who put up a strong defense, causing the LRRSF charge to loose most of its momentum. The battle in their sector has broken down into hundreds of ship-to-ship duels, supported by fighters on both sides. The LRRSF force takes relatively light losses, but the sensors operators warily eye the obscenely large Kyrr capital vessels not too far away, helmsmen's fingers hovering over the hyperspace controls. They did not plan to fight those big ships with anything less than a full multinational armada, plus anti-orbital cannons and a lot more than they had there.

Meanwhile, back on earth, garrisons are manned and anti-orbital weapons towers are brought on-line. The cliffside hangars along the LRR coast begin filling up with bombers and corvettes as the LRRA fills up defensive fortifications, hardened against all but the most intensive orbital bombardment. Shipyard Station One is put on full combat alert, and its defense fleet, as well as the on-station weaponry, are prepared. In geosynchronous orbit above LRR, it would be a valuable repair and rearming stop for allied ships in the battle to come, as well as an important weapons platform.

OOC: Sorry, didnt see the post...

IC:
Each Kyrr vessel, responding to the commands of The Many dodged quickly from point to point, pausing for a fraction of a second to fire, a good number had been taken down, and The Many had noticed.
In the background of the fight, almost unnoticed, huge engines fired, and the hundred mile wide 'Doughnuts' began accelerating, their size was so great that it belied their motion, much like a solar flare or a large cloud, so that the three huge ships.
The fighters abruptly disengaged from both Species one and LRR forces, performing quick turns to create formations, constantly shifting from one to another in random patters the Kyrr dived through the enemy fleets, not colliding with anything, but taking out fighters as they went.
The Kyrr themselves lost a good many ships, but the manuever acheived its goal.
The massive Kyrr capitol ships were now in range, and began to concentrate their huge array of weapons on the LLR capitol vessels.
The reason a doughnut was so powerful was because it could use most of its firepower, no matter what direction it was facing, turrets and missile ports were spaced evenly all along the surface, so that while they were not concentrated, there were still alot of them. And of course, it was hard to kill them to. Their modular design was such that any laser fire either passed through the ship entirly or damaged something redundant or easily fixed.
Another psychic 'shout' rang out, seeking the weaker minds amoung the LRR crews, and trying to turn them...

OOC: I hope you also factored in my attack.

IC: The spheres stopped attacking the Seedships and moved to assist the rest of the fleet.(OOC: If that attack already took them out, that would be fine.)

They had received the transmission from LRR and the cubes quickly moved out of the way while the 50 spheres phased back out of normal space. After the torpedoes hit home, the warvessels quickly moved through what remained of the first wave and attacked the second one with its weapons.

Meanwhile the fighters continued to take out fighters but now began to form larger teams of 6 or 10 and began to attack larger ships. They concentrated their fire on point to breach their defences on that spot.

When the doughnut shaped ships began their attack on the LRR fleet, Species 1 made a decision. The cubes moved between the doughnuts and the LRR fleet and as they did that they fired 2 volleys of 300 compressed antimatter missiles. They fired their plasma bolts on the locations where weapons fire came from while they swept across the hull with their energy beam weapons. Some of the warvessels were having problems keeping the shields up with such a barrage taking place.

OOC: Just a reminder, Species 1 and LRR, your supposed to lose this battle :P, the Kyrr are more interested in Earth than you S1, right now your just in the way and once beaten they will likely pass you by, maybe leaving a base on one of the moons that you can take out...

IC:
About three quarters of the seedships had gone down, the rest had scattered over a wide area, taking potshots at anything that came within range, but moving steadily toward the solid moons of the planet.

The Doughtnuts almost immdiatly switch targets, putting up a wall of energy between themselves and the enemy ships, taking out a few of the antimatter missiles.
At this point about a hundred and thirty of the missiles impact, taking out good sized chunks of the hull, one of the huge ships begins listing, apparently having its manuvering thrusters knocked out.
The other two pause their firing for a moment, then fire all their weapons, missiles, turrets, everything, at a single cube, spread out over the face nearest them, then go back to general fire.
Now smaller Kyrr capitol ships appear, apparently having docked inside the Doughnut, large rectangular ships, maybe a mile in length each rise out of the doughnuts inside.
Once they are about three miles away, they each launch six smaller craft, corvettes apparently, and the entire arrangement begins to accelerate.

Kyrr scavenger ships move amoung the wrecks, slowly abosorbing both Kyrr and enemy fighters, pilots and the general detritus of the battlefield. Once full they make their way back to the ships, which seem to repair themselelves a little bit every now and then.
Species 1

OOC: It isn't in the nature of Species 1 to back down so easily. But if you can damage them enough they may retreat temporarily.

IC: The 4 scouts that had landed on the moons had begun to process them. Huge factories, mines and powerplants were being built at a rate far faster then would have been possible for a humanoid labour force. Defenses to were being built but when the remaining seedships were detected heading for the planet they launched a total of 80 drones to meet them.

The scavengers were observed in their activities and they became prime targets for the 20 scouts returning from attacking the seedships and they also launched their 400 drones to help them. The drones that had been fighting all this time had lost 150 of their number at this time but kept attacking every Kyrr ship.

The 50 scouts now met the corvettes and attacked them with their plasma bolts and focused energy beams. They had 300 drones with them that also attacked the corvettes.

The one cube that was especially targeted lost its shields because of the attack and its outer neutronium armour because of the concentrated attack. It also lost a few of its weapons there but they were quickly repaired as the cube turned to protect its damaged side and kept on attacking. The cubes now all launched 10 lances at the holes in the outer skin of the ships. These lances had a tip that was an atom thick making them able to penetrate virtually any material and were 2 meters long.
More and more of the warvessels began to have problems keeping their shields up.

The fighter squadrons form up and cut through the Kyrr formations, headed back to their host ships. As frigates are engulfed in flame, the remaining fighters dock in record time as weapons fire rakes the surfaces of the 1st BF heavy ships, behind which the few surviving frigates hunker.

"Engage hyperspace drives!"

The surviving LRRSF ships blink into hyperspace. While some frigates escape with minor damage, the majority of the frigates had been heavily damaged, many destroyed. The heavy ships, being very well built, take heavy fire but survive. A few minutes longer, however, and the entire fleet would have been lost.

Shortly later, the remnants of the 1st BF emerges from hyperspace outside Shipyard Station 3's inhibitor fields.

The fleet is soon in dock, undergoing serious repairs. More frigates, fighters, and corvettes are also churned out of the station, which works nonstop to repair and restore the 1st BF. Fortunately, none of the larger ships had been lost.

Meanwhile, back on earth, word of the 1st BF's defeat reaches the planet. While this is interpreted as a sign of Kyrr invincibility, the 1st BF got off relatively well and destroyed far more than its losses.

Ships engaged:

Ships lost:

Fighters engaged:

OOC: I take it that the lances I fired managed to penetrate your ship. If that is not so I apologize and you can ignore that part of my post.

IC:
The cubes were having a few problems as the attack now concentrated on them and 15 lost shielding but kept on attacking. The fired on everything except for the doughnut shaped ship that had been attacked by the lances. Even the drones who had lost another 211 kept away from it and instead fired on the fighters around the warvessels.

The spheres meanwhile carried on their respective attacks on the scavengers and corvettes although the latter ones were being approached by the spheres that were attacking them.

Meanwhile inside the doughnut shaped ship the lances had penetrated the ship and were now stuck. Suddenly small tubes came out of it that sank into the surrounding material. These tubes transferred billions of nanites which immidiately began to do their magic. Everything that was technological was changed and circuitry rerouted while organic matter was simply broken down to form more nanites. Some of the nanites combined to form nanobots who began to built new devices inside the ship. Some where to make contact with the vessels outside, others to protect the affected area and others were there to repair damage and help in assimilation process.

OOC: Don't worry, these nanites can only break down organic matter and only assimilate technology. They will try to take over control of the ship or at least impede it so much that it can't fire or protect itself anymore. They will also sent any information that they can obtain from your databanks to the vessels but only after they have constructed a transmitter or acquired one.
