Thelas
07-06-2004, 15:24
Contrary to popular belief the Thelasi do actually know what diplomacy means. For the Thelasi, diplomacy is usually the negotiation to prevent a war, or to gain some sort of an advantage. Unlike many other nations, the Thelasi do not prevent wars because they think that war is bad, they merely stop wars to conserve resources that could be used more effectively in another theater.

Although under Empress Ithenril, the Thelasi have shown a renewed interest in creating long lasting diplomatic ties with other nations.

Dimplomacy=Best illustrated by the example of two lawyers walking down the street who pass a drop dead beautiful blonde, the first lawyer says "Boy, I'd like to screw her." the 2nd lawyer says, "Oh yeah, outa what?" It's all a mater of perpsective, are you trying to make a bedfellow out of the other country or just rip them off for something you need/want? Diplomacy is how you achieve your goal in that regard.
The Evil Overlord
07-06-2004, 16:43
The Dominion has two working definitions, depending on which Department within the Ministry of Pre-Subjugation External Affairs is making the definition.

The Foreign Affairs Department defines dilpomacy as, "the maintenace of tensions at a level short of actual combat".

The Department of Aggression defines diplomacy as, "the art of saying 'here, doggy' while reaching for a rock."

The Warlord (who runs both Departments as Minister) personally defines diplomacy as' "a word in the dictionary between dilletante and dipsomania."

Fortunately for the rest of the planet, the Evil Overlord prefers the Foreign Service definition.

Diplomacy: Country A ticks everyone off. Country B is one of the many countries to tell them to shut up. Cluster A rises to support of Country A against the aparent bully, while Cluster B rises to aid Country B in the argument Country B is voicing what everyone is thinking about Country A. Country A then proceeds to offend Cluster A in a backstab attack, most likely with NBC/WMDs. Everyone dogpiles Country A, who starts a new country with a near identical name. Rinse and repeat.

Also diplomacy: Insulting those who can and would, but are scared of our powerful allies.

Also also diplomacy: Insulting our powerful allies, who are too civilised to stop being allies. The incriminating pictures help.

From a Draconian Dictionary

Diplomacy
1. To get your way and tell another nation what to do.
2. To give the leader of a nation the two finger salute.
3. To shoot a leader in the leg rather then killing him or her outright to get your way.

Diplomacy:The art of avoiding making enemies and if all else fails having the miltary to defend your self.

I noticed old King Doran modestly forget the other parts of Teritoran Diplomacy. Their infamious deadly and extremely silent and deady covert operations they are rather known for dealing with problems they can't deal with normal means, to help allies, or their little vengence with allies on those who attacked them or their alliance partners kicks that tend to have gotten countrties crushed or in one case even turning an country into an nuclear wasteland for an suitcase nuking of an ally. The Tordorans still have an nice 2,000 yard wide, half mile deep crater lake in the their capital from one of Teritora's ally's Particle cannons.

Hmmmm, Sketchian diplomacy. Well, of course this is all unofficial, but basically it is -

politely nodding while listening to you air out your grievances and then invading you anyways.....

or

offering you overtures of peace and friendship and then invading you anyways.....

or

pretending to not wanting to be involved in a situation but really seeking a way to invade (both parties) anyways.

note: the term "invade" may be replaced by "greiviously assualting with malicious intent for rampant distruction".
