To calculate how your various government expenses (healthcare, defence) relate to eachother, Sunset developed the Budget breakdown calculator, which is based on your national rankings.

By inserting your national rankings and the total number of nation at the time of the ranking into this calculator, you see how the budget relates to eachother. Is all your budget really focused on defence? Or do you have other priorities?

You can download (http://www.pacifier.com/~cziller/excel/budgetbreakdown.xls) it also from the top ofthe Mars website (http://www.pacifier.com/~cziller/mars.html)

Should the other website be down: the calculator can be found in an attachement (http://s7.invisionfree.com/KIST/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=1130889) for your convienience. I'm curious what your results are!

For me this thing was useful - the national description only speaks of the Knootian education budget with religion and healthcare being minor - but commerce is almost just as big! Helpful comments, criticisms and pictures of Pies are welcome here!

This is going to take a LONG time to fill out, you NEVER seem to get what ratings you want

Errr... not true actually, it takes under 5 minutes. All you have to do is fill out the total number of nations [total ranking] and your ranking [individual] for only a few items. If you have the rankings ready its no problem at all.

Of course, you need to keep track of these few items, but for many this has already been done either by the players themselves or by the Sunset UN rankings scematic. [TIP for those who are there!] And if you don't know for sure then you'll have an approximation I'm sure. ("55kish")

A trained monkey could do it, really.

((Hey! Say 25% of my budget goes to corruption, will you? That's so true, I may just have to cry! ;)))

Considering I don't keep track of my ratings, nor do I think anyone else has, nothing is accurite. I will estimate using my nation page and what the thirdgeek budget calculator ranks me, as far as wasted money spending goes for coruption...

EDIT-Estimations:

Defense-29.1%
Religion-28.1%
Education-6.3%
Law and Order-16.6%
Coruption-14%
Healthcare-1.2%
Environment-0.9%
Commerce-3.7%
Welfare-0.1%

Iansisle: Well, I suppose its labeled differently in the official books.

FW: a lot of people do, actually ;) And you don't even have to keep track of all the rankings. Sunset has updated the thing, btw, with some additional functions.

(("Iansisle - the only country in the world where graft is an official budget item" :)

Seriously, though, I don't mind the calculator telling me the truth about our budget - why, if it wasn't for corruption, the CCP'd never get anything done!))

((Oh, if you don't want it in you can, of course, delete the entire collumn. Its what I do, since I doubt the DDR would have corruption in its official books :P))

OOC:
I am not sure that corruption would be in anyone's books. Might be under the title 'special interest funding' or something as that.

Call it what you wish... I'm referring to 'religion' as the 'Information Department' (read: (neo)liberal government propaganda) since the Knootian government won't be giving money towards any Christian goals :P

Likewise, I think of 'development aid' as part of the 'commerce' budget given the way it is used to extort trade concessions and such, according to the issues ;) This thing does reflect on your priorities though.

According to this, it is impossible to spend more than about 23 percent of one's budget on defense, yes?

(It doesn't matter for me, since defense spending is private, not public. Just a Q.)

*quietly reroutes "corruption" money into defense budget.....*

And I'll be damned if I'm gonna actually have a budget for religion and the environment!

It is possible to go over 23% - though if you use your rankings it is unlikely. Just for example...

Santa Barbara:
Defense - 28.8%
Enviromental - .6%
Healthcare - .3%
Commerce - 28.4%
Religion - .7%
Education - 15%
Welfare - .2%
Law and Order - 26.1%

Pasted straight out of the UN Rankings with corruption removed.
