OOC: I've been discussing this idea in the IRC room for a few days, and I'm putting this thread up to catch the eyes of anyone who is interested in this RP-to-be. I'm still working out the background, but here's the basic story behind it:
A rocky desert planet promises endeavors for precious metal mining. After a few decades, independent settlers and a handful of major corporations have settled the planet. Civilization is few and far between, either located near mines, sources of water and food, or settlements constructed by the corporations. No nations have control of the planet, and it is therefore void of military forces or an organized police force. Most settlements unaffiliated with the corporations govern themselves. Because of the lack of an effective law system, the planet is a haven for outlaws, exiles, and other sorts of criminals.
Basically, picture the wild west of the mid-1800s on a different planet with some future tech conveniences. Starships are owned mostly by the corporations or more well-off settlers, but the majority of the population do not own a means of getting off the planet. Most people get around on tracked, wheeled, or hovering vehicles. Aside from mining, settlers make their living by farming or ranching whatever native life there is on the planet (probably going to be some form of a giant lizard), or by gathering and selling water (see also, the moisture evaporators on Tatooine from Star Wars). Robots or droids exist on the planet, but are very expensive to own/maintain, so are mostly held by the corporations. Energy weapons are a maybe, but overall, weapons are kinetic.
Whoever's interested in joining in, leave a message here. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Any suggestions are welcome. 2 or 3 people already claimed spots in this RP through the IRC room, so space is somewhat limited. The more people there are, the more complex and confusing the RP gets.
Post away.
