Economic Reforms Necessary? (Socialists/Communists help!)

The People's Republic of Gierach is a country that could be described as being in a bit of trouble. We are very conflicted.

We enjoy a reasonable amount of regional popularity, as the UN Delegate. We have the World Benchmark for civil rights, and very good political freedoms.

However...our economy is a basketcase. Our leaders are getting mighty worked up over this. The People's Republic of Gierach strives to be an extremely liberal utopia-like state. However, we don't want our economy in the crapper.

Socialist and Communist countries out there, what should we do to help our economy? Should we help our economy? Help, comrades...

Help is indeed on the way, comrades, and economic prosperity is fully acheiveable without compromising any of the principles your government had protected so vigorously. The International Fair Trade Agreement is an international trading bloc devoted to protecting fair trade and worker's rights; information can be found here (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=148041&highlight=), up to date economics statistics on the make up of the IFTA can be found here (http://redfrenzy.com/treaty_db.php), or a delegation can be sent directly to the IFTA HQ (http://invisionfree.com/forums/CACE/index.php?s=965c60b84955f2b16ba588b91baadfb3&c=5), which is housed in the Celdonian Diplomatic Quarter.

The IFTA has proven itself effective at both increasing the economic strength of its members as well as ensuring meaningful equality and a decent standard of living across all nations. We look forward to meeting with your delegations in the near future.

Cut back military spending and redirect the funds to industry...but make sure to protect the environment also.

Its difficult, but persistance pays off.

Yup - its often a question of answering your issues smartly. Dismissing issues that *really* destroy your economy also helps. (After all, ig you have banned cars one time you don't have to do it again, no? ;) )

Yes, I couldnt agree more. Don't be afraid to dismiss issues. Its usually pretty easy to pick which ones are BS, but sometimes a few will slip through. If the issue comes again, just dismiss it.

I've also noticed that spending a lot of money on education seems to help to some degree. But maybe thats just me.

Yes. Money on education > all. It usually promotes information technology and stuff. ;)

Increase defense! The old military-industrial complex is a cash cow.

Decrease education! Private schools are where it's at. Why waste tax dollars forcing urchins into classrooms when they could be out learning a valuable skill, or selling their organs?

And of course, free trade and bow down to corporations whenever the opportunity presents itself. Corporations are the lifeblood of your nation, unless you're a commie and you profit on despair, tyranny and poverty.

:P

So THATS why my country has a good IT industry, but scores low on everything else. lol.

The capitalist paradise of the Domonion of Dragonari has heard of your peoples plight and has started a plan to smuggle a million copies of Ann Rands book Atlas Shruged to your economically oppressed people  Don't worry you can thank us after the revolution.

The People's Republic of Gierach sends its deepest thanks to all of the comrades who have given their advice. Our leaders are currently in conference debating the best course of action to take, based on your recommendations.

To that dreadful Dragon-whatever nation: You are filthy capitalist pigs! Stay away from our enlightened citizens!!!

One will want to add to that list the filthy capitalist pigs of Knootoss and Santa Barbara.

Duly noted, comrade. Our two nations should work together, from the looks of things.

PRG Economic Update: We have gone from basketcase to struggling. I'd call that an improvement.

Workers of the world, unite!
