The Iesus church

The beginning

The Catholic Church in Iesus is a relatively new institutiuon dating to around the end of the 10th Century when missionaries fathers travelling under the Celtic cross arrived to "save Heathen souls" in the largely unknown Partially Gaelic land.....

For whatever deep religious, cultural or political reasons, the Christianity brought by these Fathers caught hold of something in the people , within a decade of the arrival of St Finbarr and companions many of the major warlords of the land had "taken up the cross" and already a wave of Christian fervour was spurning these warlords onto Christianising others-even at sword point. The often times brutal suppression of pagan and metahuman culture by newly Christianised warlords simply became the culture of the day, and began a traditional of religion being used for violence by secular (Christian) authorities.

It is testimony to the power of Christ and the spirit that within less than a hundred years most of what we know as modern Iesus Christ was "Under the cross" with only northern regions retaining there barbaric pagan roots. A fact that caused much anger in the zealous religious communities .

It is during this time period that Iesus christi gained her name, for as the first Crusade was launched to liberate the holy land , the warlords of this newly saved land answered the call not as a nationally unified ethnic group or political body but as "all servants of Jesus the Christ". It is this concept by the founding fathers of faith that spurned the first true united national identity of the iesus people and as such they began to call there once divided land by the name of he whom had saved them.

As time passed the power of the church in Iesus was cemented but never to the temporal power level she achieved elsewhere
and as the once divided warlords began to solidify into a united monarchy, I the church whom prevented much bloodshed and gave blessing to the finial Royal family when it came into existence .

The late middle ages and The reformation

Iesus unlike many nations of her era was spared the worst extremes of Protestantism, schism and heresy......The churches very identity was so caught up with national belief that those preaching schism and heresy were seen as directly allied with the (now seen as) Satanic past of Iesus and with the still heathen pagans to the north and their non human allies.

So while Europe proper raged through the reformation , Iesus as a people was instead waging her own war........

The St Dominic crusades

As reformation and schism streched across Europe proper, the people of Iesus lead by their Royal household were instead launching into there own crusade. To the North lay the still heathen pagan peoples and metahumans peoples who not only were a religious blight to the people of Iesus Christi but also a wealthy and barbarian people who were seen as a direct threat to all that had been built over the centuries.

The armies of the Iesus rolled forward onto the heathen land, bringing with them the Friars of St Dominic...a order who had found fertile ground in Iesus.

Generations only knew war as this "crusade" rolled on but at finally the last chieftain in this barbaric land fall to the Good knights of Jesus the Christ and so the Northern peoples region was renamed in honour of God and the friars of this crusade-St Dominic.
This land never would fully take up the cross but that is another tale

Enlightenment and on....

Iesus cooled from her heady Heights of religious war and followed the world even as a Catholic nation , new ideas of science and certain levels of secularism found fertile soil in Iesus, Iesus was a very early nation to declare slavery illegal ( for Christian reasons) . The Church gave a liberal hand in Iesus in this period and never once did matters between the ever loyal monarchy and church never strain too badly due to the deep respect held for the church and her unstained reputation in Iesus Christi.

So while the people remained as ever, new ideas crept into this developing culture, matters of metahumanism and cultural purity didnt seem to matter any more.
Science and art was moving forward at a triumphant pace and by the 17th century Iesus was known as a catholic AND Enlightened nation....
But still the Monarchy and the new parliament were ever loyal to the church. God King Christian VI pledged in the name of the people of the Kingdom of Iesus Christ that "The People and the Church are one...never is it possible to remove the church from our heart....never can we turn from the our communion with Rome"
Historians debate much over Iesus and church in this time period, it is certain that the church, learning from her other less desirable experiences elsewhere in Europe was more akin to taking a soft approach knowing the powerful yet also delicate position she held .

It is in this time period that the Monarchy opened herself up totally to religious orders and it is during this period that Iesus began her tradition of heavy patronage of the Church causes but at the same time the monarchy heavily backed foreign metahuman culture , ideas and even the traditional ban on Protestantism was lifted. .

So as Iesus inched towards the 20th century cracks were showing inside her national identity, there were those who longed for the glory days of the great times....instead of what they currently saw. They longed for the cross and the sword again not this modern Iesus where science and the metahumanism seemed to take pride of place.....

The 20th century.

It is this period that saw the greatest conflicts in Iesus history and the biggest challenge to church authority.
As the great war dawned, Iesus joined against the central powers with much joy but great sorrow was to come......

Years of war cost the country hundreds of thousands of lives and billions of dollars....

Military defeats on the field lead to national shame and scandal, and even as the allies finally triumphed Iesus knew for the first time the sense of shame of defeat.
The nation was in economic and cultural ruin.

And yet the monarchy did nothing, and while the church warned of dire events unless a strong leadership was in power, the aging monarch past away leaving his 26 year old son as monarch over a deeply dived parliament.
Gross mismanagement was the end result of his rule, within 10 years of the end of world war 1, some 10% of the population lived in total poverty and Marxist insurgency was breaking out and yet the government still almost nothing.
And as the poverty grew, and starvation and famine hit Iesus cities the Kings response was to embrace the leftist ideals expounded by the growing Marxist movement (a movement that was home to a large number of metahumans and foreigners).Radical political and cultural reforms were pushed through parliament and imposed upon the people and the armed forces and by 1936 the church itself was under attack. The King himself declared that the wealth of the church would be used to help the governments growing debt-thus a heavy tax was imposed, and radicals and metahumans in the kings own council suggested extreme actions be taken against the Church and other "rightist institutions"...
A national state of emergency was declared and no more than 5 people could meet together at any one time-no exception was made for mass . Radical land reform was ordered and placed under state control that only heightened the famine due to the exportation of masses of food to earn "hard capital" for the government, rumours ran wild through the nation of foreign aid being used to create a "Bolshevik army" aided by metahumans and the Dominican army.

The level of horror the nation was experiencing due to famine and the beginnings of harsh Marxist leftist polices was much ignored by the outside world as the storm clouds of world war two gathered.
In a letter to Rome, the Cardinal of St Augustine Luther Hoss said "I fear Our nation is on the brink of civil war where we will become a red regime like Russia"

It is in this climate of fear , famine, oppression and rebellion that the glorious Fascist revolution occurred
Sparked by the kings ordering of the army to prevent any large public gathering in the capital-including mass, the most senior General in the army-Francis Dranco - veteran of the great war- openly disobeyed and personally leading his men and marched directly into the Imperial palace.

The Coup was bloodless to start with. The king and his council were taken without a shot, his own guards unwilling to stop the capture.

In his First public announcement General Francis Dranco declared a military provisional government and immediately restored the rights of the church but not the people, saying that for the time being emergency powers would be needed to prevent Marxist and metahuman insurgency.

For the first time in hundreds of years, metahumans were targeted as a direct danger to the people, they were seen as a favoured class of the monarchy-the now hated monarchy, they were seen as anti church and not even part of Gods salvation. The growing fascist movement in Iesus had targeted anything unchristian" as anti patriotic....now was a time to put things right..Iesus was being taken back to its early fundamental ideals.

The Church having no fixed position on metahumans remained generally silent but Cardinal Luther spoke of "while I have no hate for the metahuman I cant help wonder what part they played in our national tragedy?" Many historians ponder what role this tacet consent had to play in the coming nightmare.

On the 15. 12. 44 General Francis Dranco Died. Only 120 days after his revolution.

He left in charge a group of radical army officers lead by a young General-Matthew Iesus.

It is on this day the revolution took a radical turn...
Calling on God and the spirit of Iesus long laying silent beneath secular western hate, he called for the immediate salvation of iesus identity....

Arrests were to be made....
Non Christians were to be controlled
Marxists and communists were to be purged for the good of the state
And the metahuman menace 'expelled'.
All that Iesus was and had lost was to be restored.

His first official act was to execute the King on the steps of his own palace......

It is here official Iesus history ends... a "iron curtain of national resistance" went up blocking information flow, it was described by a one time allied nation of Iesus christi as "if a break blanket fall over her", Iesus changed from then on, she took the mantle of Fascism as keenly as she had taken up the mantle of the cross all those years ago.

What has exactly occurred in Iesus Christi over the last 60 odd years is mostly unknown but the church survived and prospered. The radical rightist policy ensured the church was restored to her correct place and she was even allowed limited protest. In a era of high anti communist feeling, the actions of the Iesus military leadership seemed ideal to many ....

The church today

The Church has been the only thing exempted from the laws of the police state(until recently)

Her Priests could travel freely outside of the country(but not internally) and generally live how they liked.

The church has been the only institution inside the nation to call for changes in law reform regarding capital punishment but generally besides this she has been silent, and with no ruling coming from Rome on the nature of metahumans the people themselves have let the states "Christian" views rule.

The church lives in a nation with a big brother like system, a nation that declares herself to be a "war" constantly , a nation that religion has became a part of every notion uttered from the government.

The former Apostolic nuncio Andrea kerns said of Iesus "She is a nation living in nervous breakdown, the constant war and state control has lead to a people not knowing what to believe anymore. Sadly this also includes much of the clergy, the revolution threw Iesus back to the 11th century ."

The facts behind the what has actually happened in Iesus Christi these last 60 odd years has much clouded the views of the clergy, the state has found the total suppression of facts a useful tool in her control.

Until recently many of the hierarchy of the Iesus Church had close ties to the revolution and well remembered the days of famine and crisis....

Now the face of the Church is changing but still the church can only draw from the people of Iesus. A people living in the grip of perpetual terror and war.

The Church leadership today(excluding the numerous auxiliary bishops)

Apostolic Nuncio: none-the position has been open since the death of Andrea Kerns

Archdiocese of St Augustine
Archbishop of St Augustine
Cardinal Patrick McCullum DD

A noted conservative when it comes to church and canon law but fiercely loyal to the church. Evanguilium Vittae and pacem in terris are often quoted by him but until recently he kept his views on government relatively quiet-confining questions of religion to issues such as war and punishment, that was till recently....

Archdiocese of Fitz
Archbishop of Fitz
Cardinal Thomas Iesus DD

A man on the verge of retirement , and one of the last veterans of the revolution. His politics are noted for being the whim of the government. Being a cardinal at the time of vatican two he rallied long and hard for anti metahuman clause and spoke directly against "ecumenical adventures". Has written many articles on catechism 355 and 356 regarding why metahumans arnt equal to man.

Assistant Bishop, Vicar General .
Bishop Emeritus of St Catherine
Most reverend John Leamy

A quiet mans whos politics remain unknown and whose main interests seem to remain on matters of liturgical norms and orthodoxy.

Bishop of lowlands
Most reverend Eric Dunn SM DD

Close friend of Cardinal Patrick yet has remained silent over recent issues including the oath and the claims of genocide. Rumoured to have encouraged members of the society of Mary to sign the oath to avoid "future unfortunate affairs"

Bishop of Notlimah
Most reverend Sam Mackey DD

A fencesitter on matters political, former head of Seminaries nation wide.

Bishop of Kingschurch
Most reverend Robin Finnigan DD

Another fence sitter, not one to rock the boat on political matters.

Bishop of Naki
Most reverend John Vanneen DD

Rabid pro government supporter , member of the party and is often seen wearing his uniform at public events

Bishop of Welling
Most revered Basil Meek DD

Nearing retirement, the former staunch advocate of law reform has taken up a new stance of silence during the recent troubles.

Bishop of Northern Provinces
Most reverend Leonard Anthony DD

Pro government, has written dozens of documents stating his anti metahuman views from a Christian point of view. Believes strongly in the role of the state in the "war on sin" (the rhetoric name for crushing anti state/Christian/human activities)

Bishop of Southern Provinces
Most reverend David Mcunn

Probably more rabid than both Anthony and Vanneen. Personal confessor to the Iesus household.

OOC: errrrr no...

IC:
On the Memoria of Saint Charles Lwanga and his companions and
With full understanding of canon 1405.....I wish to inform the holy see of matters of canon law violation within the Bishops of Iesus and the national government of Iesus Christi.

Canons 24(state laws on metahumans etc) and 208(ignored by clergy and state) and 213(denied by certain clergy) and 219 (denied by the state and by certain members of church hierarchy)223(ignored) 1199(new oath of allegiance violates this)

And I refer you to the sections in the code of canon law that deals with the Penalties - 1364 & 1369(in account of Bishops and cleric taking part in government rallies and propagating government lies) and understanding the role that they have had to acts according to can 1397 I move for consideration for canon 1370 & 1336 to come into effect.

OOC: Interesting little post here. Seems you've enscapulated Iesus' history into one post. But why did you have to make the pro-elf monarchy in the end anti-Christian? That bothers me a bit.

OOC: well its a general overview of church in Iesus....its not a indepth history or RPG of the times periods...but the general idea was that the monarchy was (or atleast seen as) being pro foriegn influence and anti traditional Christian culture..hense the rise of reactionary christianity in Iesus...( Crisis + 'foriegners' = reactionary response)
