Elven Language Conflict (introductory RP, open)

Aicassenore
25-05-2004, 06:51
Aikanáro of Aicassenórë took to the city streets last night in a bid to convince other Elven nations to preserve the language of Quenya. Quenya was banned many years ago, and has since fallen out of daily usage in most areas. Aicassenórë, however, has managed to keep Quenya alive within the land, where it is officially taught as a matter of academia. Aikanáro has described the continuance of the ban after so many years as 'oppression' and believes that as a free land, Aicassenórë should be able to use whatever language it so chooses.

This evening, a fiery speech was delivered in the capital city, which ignited the hearts of many, and caused others great concern, particularly the Sindarin minority, who fear reprisal as Quenya-mania sweeps the country. Here follows an extract from one of the speeches:

Tervandavë ahlastiemma i axani Sindarinwa. Sina avalë Quenyava ná nan envára tië ciltamma. I Noldor ná vintana, nan lertuvamme lië ertana! Ma selma lávemme mápente paluma lambemma emmallo? Ná tana man círnemme Valinor an? Cuila nu i Sindarin-quetela nóri, man sánë laiva emmava? Macilimmainen, sercemmainen nórenta ná tirna. Lambemma ná tirtyemmava, lá aláviemme ta nië vanwa. Otermárë, lië Noldorinwa. Otermárë, ilya Eldar man cénë i vanessë Quenyava. Námmë lië mirima! Eriemme lië mirima! Ilnúrë sina avalë!

For the international community, an approximate translation has been provided:

Overlong have we listened to the laws of the Sindar. This ban of Quenya is but another way to divide us. The Noldor are scattered, but we can become a people united! Will we allow them to take even our language from us? Is that what we left Valinor for? To live under the Sindarin-speaking nations, who think ill of us? With our swords, by our blood their lands are defended. Our language is part of us, we shall not let it be lost. Stand together, people of the Noldor. Stand together, all elves who see the beauty of Quenya. We are a free people! We shall remain a free people! Defy this ban!

As can be seen, Aikanáro is urging any other elven nations who agree with Aicassenórë's standpoint to come forward. A peaceful protest march, led by Aikanáro and comprised of mostly civilians, is making its way to the nearest Sindarin-speaking nation, where demands will be made. It is hoped that any still loyal to the Noldor will join this protest, and help reclaim Quenya, greatest of languages.

((OOC: alright, anyone is welcome to join this one, I'm welcoming support, opposition, indifference, general randomness. My first RP, so introductory more than anything else. ))

-THUMP-

The book landed on the table, making Sub-Director Allens wince and snap the fine tip from his pen. "Christ!" he bellowed, glancing up at the person who dropped the book on his desk. He stard right into the face of his superior, Director Kerrik. "I mean... sir!"

Kerrik shrugged. "Sure, I guess I could be God." He pointed to the book. "Factbook, Aicassenore. Another damn pointy-eared nation slipped under our noses."

"Again?" Allens glanced at his window. "Gravships again?"

"Hopefully not. Just keep me up on it." Kerrik shrugged again. "It's mostly in some damn elven script. Translate it."

"Aye, sir." Allens opened his desk. He glanced at the script. "Fu<k it. Whiskey?"

"Sure."

OOC: Good writing style, so I taggeth your first RP! Enjoy your stay!
