My fellow SLAGLanders, esteemed representatives of the Triumvirate of Yut, SLAGLandic allies and neighbours the multiverse over--I bid you good tidings.
For the past few months, The Emerald Heights of The SLAGLands has fallen from its previous place near the center of our multiverse stage. This is due to an isolationism at once self-created and perpetuated by squabbles with our neighbours and friends. I can now assure you that these problems are being remedied, and The SLAGLands is prepared to reenter the world of international politics.
As many of you are aware, part of the reason I was elected was because of my distance from what became known as the "Il Adib Problem" in The SLAGLands--a problem created by a single attack and perpetuated by ill will, hatred, and often, crime. The problem led to corruption within even these once-sacred halls of government, as former Minister of Finance Doned McIntyre used the situation to curry favour with terrorist organizations and special interest groups in an effort to take control of this entire land. I myself was in part guilty of allowing this, doing nothing in the specter of this hatred for fear of isolating myself politically. I chose strategic indecision when action was necessary; in that respect, I made a grievous error.
To update the world on what precisely happened, former Prime Minister Marlena Cantrell was attacked by her son, a member of a race known as Il Adib. A wave of Il Adib hatred swept over the nation, which led to mutual dissent between The SLAGLands and The Outset Islands. Terrorist attacks were initiated by people on both sides of the border, all financially sponsored by our own former Minister of Finance, the aforementioned McIntyre. Thankfully, McIntyre's despicable deeds have been discovered, and he has been jailed--probably for life. Thankfully, a new Minister of Finance has been elected, and at a recent peace conference at the coastal city of Kelder, an agreement was reached. The Kelder Accords, as they have been dubbed, allow Il Adib and their kin on The Outset Islands to have full rights and priviledges befitting any other citizen of our planet and multiverse. They are hereby protected as any other sentient creature of our planet would be, free from the degredation and mistreatment they previously received.
First of all, allow me to take this opportunity to apologize publically to the people of The Outset Islands, in particular Il Adib. I was foolish to believe that which the enemies of the freedom of our respective peoples would have us see as fact. My lack of action bruised SLAGLandic foreign relations in a way that they previously had not been damaged. My reputation has been tarnished, but more importantly, the reputation of the people of this great nation has been tarnished. For this reason, I pray that Esmerelda and the entire nation of The Outset Islands will forgive me this error.
Finally, I would like to offer my apologies to the people of the world. I was foolish, and such a lapse of judgment is unbefitting a Prime Minister of The Emerald Heights of The SLAGLands. While the recent recall election held me victorious, I nonetheless feel a great deal of shame for recent events within our borders. I cannot express enough my sorrow, and I hope you will all find it in our hearts to grant this old man some reprieve and his people the dignity and respect they deserve. The SLAGLands has always prided itself above all with being a freedom-loving state, and I have sullied our honour with these events.
However, it would be unbefitting a head of state to simply talk in the face of such events. Instead, we will act, and we will rebuild. We will not simply request the world's forgiveness; we will earn it. And through the actions of our people, through the benevolence, kindness, and good will of our populace. After all, they are the foundation of The SLAGLands. The beating heart of this country is not the grand halls of government, but in the peace and love of this freedom-loving people.
