In a grand celebration of epic proportions, the citizens of the Democratic Republic of Nexum have come out in full force today to celebrate reaching a milestone of 1 billion inhabitants. The celebrations come just days after the new Nexum National Flag was approved by Congress in a unanimous vote of 1000-0.
The old flags will be retired and sent to national museums.
Economic Boom-times!
The amount of celebration has been unprecedented in the nations history. Good news has been following Nexum in recent months as its economy has grown by over 20% after years of decay and degredation of its markets.
"This is the best I've felt in years" stated an unidentified man "I used to be homeless but now I have a new job at a high-tech firm." The man is just one of many who are crowding the streets all over the nation to celebrate in possibly the greatest day in history for this proud nation.
Changes to National Motto
The President has currently petitioned the National Congressional Assembly to change the nation's motto to something more appropriate. The idea to change the old motto, "Rehab is for quitters" has caused quite a stir in recent months from the citizenry.
"I believe that the motto is outdated", stated the President at the news conference. "Bringing in a new motto or catchphrase would make the people happy. This one just makes our nation look like a bunch of stoners. The founding ancients would have preferred something much more politically correct!"
But civil libertarians and social historians refute the President on this claim, stating that "It is clear that the founding ancients were in fact heavy drug users, and at the time a momentous drug problem raged throughout the small towns and villages of Nexum. But we shouldn't change it. The founding ancients knew best!!!"
But despite the contraversey, the crowds are still out in full force tonight, ladies and gentleman. This couldn't be more of an amazing event for any of us!
