It is reported that the people of Athenzos are deeply dissapointed with the newly appointed UN delegates stance on the latest UN resolution. Sharing a universal passion and bond for civil rights and the environment, the people are said to be upset by The Constitutional Monarchy of Hazirstan choice to vote against banning single-hulled tankers. They have seen the affects of oil leeks on their own costline in the past and the damage it has done to local wildlife and Athenzos's environment. Though they understand that oil must be transported around the globe, they feel more should be done to prevent such dissasters happening and subsequent surrounding environments destroyed. Many say they hope The Constitutional Monarchy of Hazirstan will change its vote before the resolution passes.

King Bryan I, has yet to comment on these events, though being extremely close to his people, it is likely he will take a similar viewpoint.

I thought it might be a good idea to put a little map together of Maunganui so we know who our direct neighbours and give us a clearer idea of the region. HTML tags seem to be off here so I will have to post a link to the map. I've tried to keep it as simple as possible with rivers, mountain ranges and forests. I havnt assigned anyone but my self an area in the region yet. Instead I have numbered them. I guess the fairest and logical way is a first come, first serve basis on where you wish to be. So reply in this thread as to where you would like to be. I've made Maunganui an island so most nations will be on the cost or near to water. I've tried to keep it fair for everyone but if you want any changes (like more trees, a river or mountains in your area) let me know.

So if everyone gets back to me in this tread with a number, when everyone has decided I will update the map with names and sticky it in the Maunganui description. There are currently 24 areas with some space for a few more. If we get lots and lots more nations I guess we can just draw up a new map.

I also forgot to say that the empty areas I had put aside are for the future if we need more room. The empty areas can be broken down so are a little large at present for just one nation. Remember if you want more or fewer landmarks (trees, water, mountains etc) let me know. Hope this is ok.

When its done, I'll try and keep an eye on whether your nation is 'environmentally stunning' or a 'baron' type environment and reflect this in the map.

I get #15 because my nation is supposed to have a small area and it has a river, mountains, and trees right in the description. Well, I don't know about river, but I want it :D

Statement by President Rand

My fellow Randbladians,

It gives me great pleasure to announce that within just a few days of you granting me the opportunity to serve the nation, I have managed to introduce sweeping reforms as promised. From a peak of 25%, I have managed to reduce our average income tax rate to a bare 7%. Far from the out-dated moaning of Karl Lenin, my reforms have left our civil liberties rated by the UN as Superb, but improved our economy to Very Strong, from Reasonable. We are confident that our new economic system will lead us from strength to strength, as we our now even more competitive tax rate than Hazirstan.

In honour of the final break our nation has made from it's socialist past, it is now appropriate to reflect that in our title. Therefore I have ordered the renaming of our nation from the Democratic Republic of Randbladia, to simply the Republic of Randbladia. I pledge to continue our democratic tradition, which todays reforms of financing should improve, but we shall not adopt a title abused by other socialists from which we no longer wish to be affiliated. Now that the UN is no longer calling us socialists and lumping us with that group, I feel the time is now right for us to make an application to join the United Nations. Our first act as new members will be to firm up our previous unofficial support for the regional delegation belonging to our allies Hazirstan.

Finally, I have just received petitions asking me to ban gambling in Randbladia, due to children as young as 8 gambling. If children can earn themselves some money and want to use it in Crown Casino, or any other, then I will not stop them. Nor will I stop the adults Randbladians who enjoy using their newly created wealth however they want.

It would be great if on the map some forests were added near my mountains, for it would go with the descriptions in my "issues" and main description thingy.

Good idea. If you want to tell me the name of your capitals, and where you would like them in your region I'll add them too.

We could also do with a name for the mountain range that belongs to the goats. I tried to think of one last night but could only think of tolkien-esque style names. Once you get a middle style name in your head its so hard to think of something else :shock:

I know what you mean Visnac. I checked the sight, looks pretty sophisticated though. I also received an invitation from the "Rockies" region some time ago. The problem is is that alot of these nations that try and "hook" you into joining them are (pop wise) rating in the few hundreds of millions.

This of course makes me suspicious, since they could easily bully small nations (like us) around.

BTW, Modeaceface my capital is blight-Insular3, location; somewhere just south of the small mountain range toward near the center of my nation. Oh yes, one minor point - Do be a good lad and center my countries name on the map, won't you? 8)

My friends. At the request of The Democratic Republic of Balmoric, I would like to try and get the current issue of oil, resolved quickly and peacefully. We all agreed that claiming areas of Maunganui would be first come first served. Our records show that The Incorporated States of Wraithia had claimed area 4 a few hours before The Democratic Republic of Balmoric's claim to region 3. Altougth Balmoric were first to discover the oil, they are now damaging the land of Wraithia by drilling acrcoss the border. I believe what ever is held between your borders, belongs to your people, whether it be forests, mountains, or indeed oil in this case.

I sympathise with both nations on this difficult issue and I hope discussions will continue between Wraithia and Balmoric and that an agreement can be made. Either Balmoric ceases drilling across the border, or Wraithia takes its share in the profit of the oil. Either way, I hope I have cleared a few things up so that a logical and sensible resolution can be made.

The Crazistan Tribal Elders have met once more to discuss the border dispute between Wraithia and Balmoric. They believe they have found a just solution to the dispute:

"In the spirit of the Gokuic traditions, Wraithia and Balmoric should 'Entrust thy noble cause to the Simian Overlord, with the fire of thy age, to in person protect that which hath been threatenedeth'. Lord Damocles responded to this statement by having the Tribal Council sacked.

Now onto the weather. Today will be partly cloudy with a high of... wait, this just in! Those responsible for the sacking have also been sacked! We will try to get a statement from Lord Damocles as soon as possible.

A small animal rights rally was staged today in our nation’s capital, protesting the military’s training of monkeys to fight using flamethrowers. Citing an incident earlier in the day when one monkey pointed the flamethrower the wrong way and was seriously injured, the critics have called this training program ‘cruel,’ ‘barbaric,’ and ‘just really weird.’ The military is training chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans, and several other simian types, in an effort to determine which would species is best suited for the battlefield. WNC’s senior military analyst has speculated that this program may be the result of a joke that was just carried too far, and has drawn comparisons between this and the short-lived ‘Kamikaze Kangaroo’ program several years ago in which kangaroos were being imported and trained to bounce into enemy lines while wearing dynamite.

On the issue of WMD, while it's unlikely that any of our countries has the capability to produce Nuclear weaponry, biological and chemical weaponry are not out of the question. Both of these can be made fairly low-tech, and in small operations, just not in large quantities without help from outside the country.

I'm not exactly sure how this came up, though. I probably missed it, but I didn't see anything referring to NBC, only conventional weaponry.

Lord Phobas offered weapons to both nations as, he says, the only way to avoid war is if both nations believe the other will completely destroy them ie. Mutually Assured Destruction. This implies nukes :wink:

Description: THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY, CONSIDERING that the illicit traffic in small arms impedes development, constitutes a threat to populations and security, and contributes to the destabilization of States; RECOGNIZING the suffering caused by illicit trafficking in small arms and that States bear the obligation to bolster their efforts in developing practical ways of addressing the problem; REAFFIRMING the right to individual or collective self-defense recognized within United Nations implying that States have the right to acquire arms for defense; REITERATING the importance of the right of self-determination of all peoples, especially under alien domination or foreign occupation; CONVINCED of the need for a thorough approach to control and reduce small arms and light weapons in a balanced manner to ensure international peace and security; 1. ADOPTS the following recommendations for the curbing of illicit traffic in small arms and light weapons with respect to the definitions of this weaponry articulated in the annex of this resolution; 2. REQUESTS an independent council be formed to continue to consider the matter and report to it at its subsequent sessions on the implementation of this resolution and to seek and consider the views of all Member States on the objective, scope, agenda, dates and venue of an international conference on the illicit arms trade; 3. DECIDES to convene an international conference on all aspects of the illicit arms trade no later than 2005; 4. WELCOMES the offer by the Government of Mikitivity to host in Miervatia, no later than 2005, an international conference on all aspects of the illicit arms trade; 5. ENCOURAGES the establishment of national programmes to combat the illicit transfer of small arms and ensure the collection thereof within the suggested parameters of paragraph 6 and invites the international community to render technical and financial support to strengthen the ability of States to take these actions; 6. RECOMMENDS that participating States should implement programmes of action which would: a) employ regulations to control the production of small arms and light weapons within their jurisdiction, and over the export, import, transit or retransfer of such weapons; b) generate agencies responsible for policy guidance of efforts to prevent illicit trade, including aspects of illicit manufacture, control, trafficking, circulation, brokering, trade, as well as tracing, finance, collection and destruction of small arms; c) ensure responsibility for all small arms held and issued by the state and create measures for tracing such weapons; d) and enact, where possible, effective disarmament, demobilization and reintegration programmes, including effective collection, control, storage and destruction of small arms, particularly in post-conflict zones, as well as address the special needs of children affected by armed conflict. ANNEX DEFINITIONS In the present resolution and its aspects: a) “Small arms” means man-portable firearms and their ammunition primarily designed for individual use by military forces as lethal weapons; the term shall be used interchangeably to also denote the aggregate of small arms and light weapons; b) “Light weapons” means some man-portable firearms and their ammunition, light artillery guns and rockets, and guided missiles for use against armored vehicles, aircraft, or fortifications.
