My 1 year date is coming up soon, and I feel the urge to do something big and grand... and this is what I came up with.

The RP takes part in the jungles of Novar Ohan, a steaming, wet mass of life. They are populated pretty much exclusively by primitive tribes, though ancient cities loom in a Lovecraftian manner from out of nowhere. An actual plot is unexplainable, for many reasons.

1. It's a surprise, though people who were with me in October to December last year may have various clues from this word: 'Raven'.

2. There isn't really a plot. Or rather, there is, but it's not important. The plan is for this to be an Open-Plotted, totally free-form RP.

#2. is the one which will concern us here. Essentially, all I do is provide a setting and NPCs/creatures. Besides that, all I do is react in a passive manner to whatever the players want to do. You want to hunt through the forest to find a hideous monster? Feel free, but remember that in jungles the hunter can often be the hunted. Want to bring your religion to the Godless pagans? Go right ahead, but don't be surprised if the Godless pagans sacrifice you to their gods on a pyramid left behind by ancient powers. If you want to search for medicinal plants, or oil wells, or anything of that sort... feel free.

That's not to say there won't be some constraints on your actions. But most of them will be primarily common sense (no trying to leave the jungle... no attacking Imperial Officials... I reserve the right to reject characters OOCly because the Imperial Government would never allow them inside the jungle because they are stupid...), and that's where this sign-up thread comes in. I'm looking for people who can be trusted to do things correctly, and who don't need the constraint of a set plot to RP. I'm also looking for people with experience.

I think I can swing about... 10 people in this RP (maximum). If you have any questions, leave 'em here. Priority will go to people with whom I've role-played in the past. People who I haven't rped with, or haven't in a while, should provide two examples of their rping for me to look over. It's not first come, first served, and I don't play favourites.

Sorry, I just had another thought. I'm not making a limit on how many characters you can have. Well... not as such. You can have one (maybe two or three) main character(s), and a few guards or porters or the like. If you take that option, then I don't want to hear people crying when the minor characters get eaten, or speared, or sacrificed, or taken to thedarkness between the stars.

Exceptions will be made for teams of scientists, if I'm informed previously. If two players want in as a collaboration on a team of scientists or trepanners, then I'll count them as one playe

I'd also like people to steer away from standard things like wizards and so-on, because they'd go against the general flow of what I have in mind. Modern tech/near-future characters are preferred. That's not to say there won't be some... impossible (perhaps improbable is a better word. And un-namable, even better.) things. But I'd like to keep those metaphorical cards close to my chest.

Well, I didn't see Hack's resume, but I did take a look at a few of his threads and they are all high quality.

Well, I currently participate in 2 RP's, and if I could figure out how to make them link here, I would. Alas and alack, I am somewhat Luddite-like, and technology makes me nauseous.

That should help me in this RP, as I see myself playing the role of a small group of young natives who have embarked on their quest for manhood, and full-status in their tribe.

I'd love to participate, but I'm not sure you know me. 5CN does (he was in my first real RP) and he might vouch for me, but for those who don't, I'm a character-oriented RPer with limited access that likes writing. I could join with a grizzled, cutoff-wearing hunter with pistols, bandoliers, lightsabers, etc. dripping off him.

Quick and dirty outline of the character I'm pondering, as described by one of his students:

"Professor Moran? He's a strange guy. I mean, yeah he speaks, like, a million languages, but he's always confused, ya know? We were supposed to be going over Aristotle's Ethics, and he starts yammering in some goofy-ass language for about five minutes. Occupation: Former soldier in the CAF, resigned, became independent mercenary, started up a small security agency with several other ex-soldiers. Plan is to have him, a couple of other guys, and a small team of scientists go in to search for minerals and oil.

Doctor Tara Craven - 25

Dusty blonde hair, usually swept back out of her eyes, with strands dangling about her face. She has honest looking blue eyes, but they hide her darkest secrets well.

Following in her father's footsteps, Tara became an archealogist, but since his disappearance two years, she has been using grants in order to search for him, retracing his last know steps in a bid to find out what happened to him.

My characters will stay secret until the RP starts, though I'm sure Roania can guess one of them.

OOC: Ael, you're not quite grasping this... there is no storyteller, as such...the plot could remain rock still for as long as each player wants, and it'd still work. The plot doesn't have to advance for everyone if it does for one person... in fact, I'd be disappointed if it did.

Essentially, I see a young humanoid character (Tepak Krill), living with a tribe in the wilderness. As part of his manhood initiation rituals, he must leave the village and live in the jungles, using only his wits and skills, until he has his Vision. The Vision will reveal much about the man he will one day become (Tribal Leader). I am character driven, so he will spend some time soul-searching and trying to discover who he is, and who he will be. Perhaps later, he can meet up with some of the other intrepid explorers, offering his services as a guide, or saving them from some natural (or unnatural) disaster. Plot twists could include helping with the search for Tara’s father, Prof. Craven, or even find out that his father was Evan Hunter, who had a tryst with Tepak’s mother many years ago. I am currently developing the back history of the tribe, and while they will not have any outrageous powers, they will have some minor mystical properties, perhaps an empathic affinity with the local flora and fauna.

That is my basic idea…hopefully, there will be a place for me. If not, no worries, I look forward to reading and following this RP.

A mysterious woman, rejected by most of the Aelosian society because of her mixed blood. Half-sindarin, half-eldar, she was never comfortable with either race. The eldar despised her as a Mon-Keigh, uncapable of follow the fate of the starpeople, and the elves despised her for carrying in her blood the essence of the oppressors.

She retired from civilization, going to live inside the thick forest like a wild elf. After years of living alone in the wilderness, she developed amazing skills as a huntress and a survivor, and started to sell her services to anyone who needed a guide or an accomplished hunter.

After years of traveling to many of the most exotic jungles and forests of the world, she was ranked as one of the best mercenaries of the world, her hobby to hunt the most strange and various beasts from all over the universe...

Going back to me being a "lowly creature", I'd be quite happy to bring along some extra muscle in the form of a seemingly-random henchman-type figure, I just feel like stretching my muscular imagination for once, but I need to develop the character a little, and your threads are always wicked... ;)

Actually, I've only read The King of Elfland's Daughter, The Gods of Pegana, Pathways to Elfland: The Writings of Lord Dunsany, and a random collection (oh, and part of The Charwoman's Shadow), doesn't mean I know everything about him.

If you're going Lovecraftian, however, you're more soundly screwed, as I've read pretty much everything he wrote except for his "comedy", The Battle That Ended The Century, largely because I can't find the damn thing. Anyway, don't worry, I won't spoil anything. You may have noted that my character is half-insane anyway. Who would believe anything he says?

I never said he was stupid, that's just the opinion of the prisoner. He's just... Quiet. Besides, he's safe enough as far as doing nothing stupid is concerned.

Background: A flora fanatic, Kiljak has been fascinated by foliage from an early age. Despite the best efforts of his muscular half-brother, Darlon, Kiljak has remained slim and stringy, spending more time in a laboratory than in a gym. An expert on vegetation, Kiljak is looking to broaden his horizons, and bringing his stronger brother along seemed the natural thing to do in such a dangerous part of the world.

All right, Tib... here are the guidelines. Modern to near future tech. That means no gundams, personal rail-guns, or giant lazer cannons that can blast away without a nuclear reactor nearby. No complaints if you send a main character, and the main character is painfully devoured by an ancient god recently awoken by bumbling scientists, or mauled by an Apterix.

OOC: WA mentioned something about a modern-tech RP, but it looks like this one is full already.

Let me know if something opens up, there's literally no good RP content around nowadays.

I give my reconmendation for MS too, he's good in any scenario, especially one with a guy like Raven involved. And jungles. :wink: Oh and MS, you forgot the Endgame thread, which kinda died, but whatever...and I miss the Silence thread! Waaaa... :cry:
