The House of Apollo...Let the games begin

“…In a surprise announcement, the CEO of Apollo Group announced a massive restructuring, including the spinning off of two companies. Predictably, the reaction was shocking within business circles and critics say that the government aid package has not gone far enough. However, a government spokesperson replied that the aid package ‘cannot protect everyone and that the strong must swallow the weak.’ At this time, it is not known who the main buyers may be but Gargantua is rumoured to be eyeing the automobile division. There are also unsubstantiated rumours that the government will look for buyers outside of Vrak itself ? such as other Klatchian nations or even certain overseas companies.

Finally…Hyperion Transport Systems has announced the leasing of 10 spacecraft from Bolden corporation, a company based in Santa Barbara. Said the CEO of Hyperion: ‘We are excited about this. We always wanted to expand into space but now this should literally leapfrog our plans into the future. And yes, we believe this will be highly profitable. We plan to run ships from Mercury to Mars and all points in between. So consider us the next time you want to send your goods in space. Finally, I want to thank Ved Kenniger of Bolden corp for their fine training and know-how to bring our personnel up to speed. I see great things for them and us.’

[Brief jingle. Then a deep male voice:
For all your financial news, stay tuned to ICN Financial. Now available on your mobile phone.]
[A brief 3 second advertisement jingle. Then two hyperactive voices:
a: If a 175-pound man fell into one end, he would come out the other end as 38 pounds of oil, 7 pounds of gas, 7 pounds of minerals and 123 pounds of sterilized water!
b: No way!
a: Way! Buy TDP tech today!
b: Cool!
Brief Jingle. Then off.]

In sports…”

The Grand Duke, or otherwise known as the CEO of Apollo Group, paced furiously in his office.

“I don’t want to take any calls! Cancel my messages!” he bellowed at his aides. Quickly they scrambled out of the door, nearly stumbling over themselves. They had never seen their boss in such fury, and reminded themselves that the last time he was angry he snapped the neck of his marketing VP. The great doors were closed and Rex Yuuley was left to fume.

How can those bastards get away with this? Who do they think they are? Forcing me to break up my company? Me??

A huge fist belonging to an equally huge man slammed down on his desk, shaking it hard. Like nearly all VIPs in Vrak – especially the CEOs, they tended to be massive walruses or men, since ascending the corporate ranks tended to favour those who were not only intelligent, but those who could physically survive the ancient and secret rituals. Abruptly, he stripped off his suit jacket and shirt. Even though he was 62, he was in fantastic shape and could still benchpress over 300 kilograms. He posed in front of the full-length mirror which revealed a body resembling the name of his company. It also revealed several vertical scars along his chest, abdomen, and legs. Angrily, he picked up a 45 kilogram barbell and chucked it across the room.

I’ll challenge him. That’s what I’ll do. It’s within my rights.

He picked up the phone and dialed a number…

OOC: Argh! Misspelt a company name. Should be okay now.

HQ of the Western Asian Arms Manufacturing Association

James Gatz, WAAMA's VP of Military Sales, sits at a large meeting table in WAAMA HQ, Tel Aviv. Around the table sit the other VPs of the company as well as the President and CEO. He matches their gazes as best he can, but even the experienced salesman admits, deep inside his mind, that this is intimidating as hell. Gatz, Gatsby to his friends, takes a drink of water before beginning his report.

"As you all know, WAAMA has traditionally limited involvement in non-Delta Triumvirate companies. Notable exceptions include the Swedish Hagglunds Vehicle AB and the Finnish company Patria Vammas Qy, which are now a part of the "Mortar Industries Group" under General Shun's leadership; the Swedish shipbuilding company, DOCKSTAVARVET, also under General Shun; SkyCat International; Cheyenne Tactical; and a couple of non-lethal weapons manufacturers. While this might seem like a long list, I am sure that you are all aware that the WAAMA member roles include dozens of companies across all military-related manufacturing fields.

"It is now that I come to this Cabinet with a proposal that could bring WAAMA into the next stage...a proposal that could bring us prestige and respect in addition to the power and wealth that will come from the acquisition of the mere resources that we stand to gain. I come to this Cabinet with the proposal that WAAMA, or some collection of its major member corporations, open negotiations with the Apollo Group of Vrak to take control of various manufacturers of civilian and military product manufacturers. Many of our members with civilian sides to their business would be glad to have the foothold in the lucrative Vrakian civilian goods market while we at WAAMA stand to gain a foothold in the military procurement chain of Vrak's government.

"All that I require is that the Cabinet provide its support for initial contact and negotiations."

Gatz looks to the President and CEO of the Association, who nod slightly to James Gatz as he sits down. President Lodz rises to speak in response,
"I believe that Mr. Gatz here has some valid points. CEO Harmon and myself have previously debated this issue in private and have put it up to the Board of Advisors. The BoA gave its blessing to this move and now this Cabinet is the last stage of approval. We will vote by roll call by seat order, starting with Mr. Gatz."

The Cabinet Secretary begins to read off names, recording each vote as they come..."Gatz, James..."

"Aye"

"...Harmon, Gary..."

"Aye..."

...Ten Minutes later, Gatz is being congratulated on the approval of the plans as the meeting continues to consider the implimentation of the proposal.

The team of negotiators begin to make contact with Apollo Group reps, taking careful pains to avoid public disclosure of the moves.

It is later that morning that the news breaks of the Apollo Group restructuring.

OOC: Just a quick note here. Most large companies in Vrak act like, say, Samsung or LG in that they have interests in a variety of things. As well, they all have a military wing to them that is not necessarily public knowledge. In this case, there are at least two companies of Apollo that are up for grabs: the automobile one (Apollo Auto) and the aircraft manufacturer (Apollo Wings). Apollo also has interests in food production (Apollo foods) and an airline (Apollo Air) among others. All seperate companies that make up the conglomerate have top of the line R&D labs along with highly skilled personnel.

Basically, I hope this RP will flesh out a bit more of what I think a "corporate monarchy" would be and also introduce some people into the bizarre yet brutal world of Vrakian corporations. I guess I was inspired by what happened in South Korea, especially during the later part of 1997 and subsequent years. During this time, the IMF bailed the country out with a massive (I think 50 billion) aid package but some changes had to occur - such as some restructuring. There were also some "Big Deals" that occurred, such as some chaebol (conglomerate) swapped certain parts of themselves for other parts. For example, LG sold its chip making over to Hyundai (which then made Hynix) in exchange for cash. I'm a bit fuzzy on the exact details, but I hope you get the idea. :)

Dear Mr. James Gatz,

I understand that the company you represent, WAAMA, is interested in purchasing one or more of the divisions that Apollo Group is spinning off. At the moment, I am aware that at least two companies are being sold. They are Apollo Wings, the aircraft manufacturer and Apollo Automobiles, our main automobile manufacturer.

This is an historic time for our company and for our nation because an outside company has never been allowed to actually bid on a wholly owned Vrakian company. So, I congratulate you but also feel that I should warn you to tread carefully.

A short list of Apollo Group is as follows:

Apollo Group – CEO Rex Yuuley
Apollo Airlines - passenger airline hauler, some cargo
Apollo Manufacturing - variety of tertiary consumer goods and wholesaler
Apollo Foods - manufacturer and distributor of foodstuffs
Apollo Textiles and Silks - clothing manufacturer, uniforms, etc…]
Apollo Computers and Communication - computer manufacturer, telecommunication equipment
Apollo Automobiles – automobile manufacturer
Apollo Cruises - passenger liners and tourism, hotel chain
Apollo Wings - aircraft manufacturer

Please let me know when you wish to arrive and if you have any further questions. I look forward to meeting you.

Sincerely,

Wittelbach-Bathway was an investment firm that had dominated the commodity trading sectors of the Klatch for almost twenty years. Unlike most stock companies Wittelbach-Bathway's stock had never been split and was running at 110,000 Kr per share (not impossible what with Berkshire Hathaway nearing 100K USD). And it was run by a man few had ever seen outside of the peers and gentry of Alcona and Hubris.
Landgrave Wittelbach himself.

The man with gray hair looked out at the table around him and then began.
"As you all know the present ecconomic situation in Vrak has allowed foreign investement. It has come to my attention that Apallo Auto is on the block. I have a long term stratagy that would make Apollo Auto a major player in the world auto markets. However, I think knowning the Vrakians, they would feel much happier retaining a portion of the company. After all, they litterally formed their corporations as almost feudal fiefdoms."

To: Rex Yuuley, Grand Duke of <insert proper title here>
CEO of Apollo Group.

From: William Wittelbach, Landgrave of Wittelbach, Chairman Wittelbach-Bathway International.

Your Grace, it has come to my attention that you are planning on the sale of your automotive division. I should say this comes as a surprise considering the support your government has given out in recent years due to the dozle conflict. As a fellow Klatchian, I would like to have a moment of your time on a prospective deal that would be mutually benifical. I hope that we might discuss the matter over lunch sometime, perhaps in Vrak or my country. Or if you are so inclined, I would be more than pleased to have you and your immediate family visit for a weekend at my estate, where we could discuss matters in private.

With Best Wishes to yourself and His Majesty,
Landgrave Wittlebach.

Dear Mr. William Wittelbach, Landgrave of Wittelbach, Chairman Wittelbach-Bathway International.,

It is with the greatest respect that we want to let you know that we have received your letter. Our country is, as you know, undergoing turbulent times and engaged in a massive rebuilding effort. This is an historic time for our company since this is the first time that a company outside of our nation has been able to actually bid on a Vrakian company. So, I congratulate you, sir, but feel that I should also caution you. Our ways in regards to corporate restructuring may seem bizarre and, I daresay, somewhat brutal to outsiders. I feel that I can be somewhat more candid with you sir, since you are a fellow Klatchian but, as bound by the rules set forth, I have to inform you that another company, WAAMA, has expressed interest in our divisions that are being spun off.

By the way, the companies that are currently undergoing restructuring are:

Apollo Wings – aircraft manufacturer
Apollo Auto – automobile manufacturer

And a brief list of the Apollo Group follows:

Apollo Group – CEO Rex Yuuley
Apollo Airlines - passenger airline hauler, some cargo
Apollo Manufacturing - variety of tertiary consumer goods and wholesaler
Apollo Foods - manufacturer and distributor of foodstuffs
Apollo Textiles and Silks - clothing manufacturer, uniforms, etc…]
Apollo Computers and Communication - computer manufacturer, telecommunication equipment

Authorized release: Corporations
Archive record: Vrak – Corporate History – General – IDX#90231
TO: WAAMA, Wittelbach-Bathway

[Start document]

There are several large corporations that are involved in the economic life of Vrak. All of them have a wide variety of interests such as: automobile manufacturing, gambling, tourism, computers, and foodstuffs.

Historically, the corporations began as an extension from the great houses of Vrak, which have always dominated politics. The great houses themselves are basically the prominent families found in the nobility class. The merchant class was always highly regarded, or at least viewed as a necessity, and since our nation had a keen interest in trade, it was only natural that business entities would be created. Some far-sighted nobles incorporated businesses into their own houses and since businesses attracted wealth, the nobles could buy more soldiers and conquer his rivals – especially those that did not incorporate businesses into their political power base. Gradually, the great houses, and consequently the businesses, were concentrated into fewer and fewer nobles. Businesses that tried to exist outside of the patronage of the nobility were often swiftly crushed and their assets folded into a noble’s house. Some astute merchants were also able to acquire vast wealth and then the rank of nobility, although never beyond the rank of baron. Even the central government at the time – that is, headed by the King, had several corporations under ownership – or at least a majority stake. Oaths of political fealty exerted by the King to various nobles (and nobles to nobles) also involved divesting some of their business control, usually in return for a handsome settlement.

Gradually, some nobles began to refer to themselves as CEOs, preferring to adopt the business titles rather than the traditional political titles of count, duke, or baron. This revealed the inexorable influence that business was exerting over the nobility, of which some resented.

The “Huk Tuk Ruio” – or “Corporate Wars” then occurred. The reasons for this are complex, but some reasons are listed:

1) The growing resentment among the “pure” nobles and those of the merchant class acquiring nobility
2) The influence of the businesses themselves affecting the political life of nobles. Some felt that the businesses themselves were interfering too much in the political processes – especially in the King’s court
3) Growth stagnation. The monopolist control was felt to be undermining creativity and the freshness that new businesses bring to the marketplace.
4) An increase in the militarism of some of the business - especially in regards to the formation of private corporate armies.

The wars cost millions of lives and billions of damage to the nation. There are even today some after effects, especially how some of the great houses interact.

The result of the war changed life in the Kingdom greatly. Corporations were allowed more political clout, but they had to give up their own armies, not only due to the terms of the peace accords but due to the sheer tactical and economic brilliance of King Vroko, who was able to muster most of the armies and corporations on his side. King Vroko was wise enough to realize that such a war could happen again, and so he allowed the corporations to become more politically involved – while he also found kinship with the common walrus and man. He was able to see that if he could bring the majority of the population (which ultimately translated into economic and political might) to his side, he could force his own agenda, which he always claimed to be for the good of the people. King Vroko himself then instituted the title “King Vrak” and his son Yuwiu Vroko, took up the mantle of “King Vrak the First”. Also at this time, King Vroko created Parliament - a political body designed to give a voice for the common being through political parties. The great houses, realizing that this new venue could be exploited, also formed political parties, if nothing else to guarantee their own interests. As well small businesses, which were once banned, were now able to start – although they are often bought out buy the large corporations. Some traditional aspects in regards to business deals are still found today – most notably the “Uy Rekuytur” or “Right of Ascension” or also known as “Right of Ownership”.

Today, the huge corporations that exist nearly all have some form of political influence in the government, either through connections through the nobility or through Parliament. Popular movements have always been recorded but, through a variety of reasons, have not been able to unite or stay intact enough to threaten the ruling classes.

At the breaking of the news story, the offices of Hyperion Transport Sytems - which was probably Vrak's biggest transportation company bar none, decided to release a short statement to the media.

"Hyperion Transport is flattered by the interest shown by GEC Interplanetary Transport in our fledging space fleet. However, the ships are not for sale. Our foray into interstellar trade is but a first step for the expansion of our company. We wish GEC Interplanetary Transport the best of luck in its endeavours. Thank you."

Privately, however, probes were sent out to GEC wondering if that company would be interested in a strategic partnership.

Vrak Prime International Airport

The Western Asian jet, one of a number bought from Reploid Productions decades ago for the diplomatic corps and since updated repeatedly, sets down easily on a small-craft runway in the huge airport.

The craft taxis to a nearby hangar under the direction of the Vrakian control tower and parks at the building's side, among a small fleet of black classy cars.
Vrak
17-05-2004, 05:23
The black cars all flew the flags of Apollo Group – much like diplomatic cars do with visiting dignitaries. The flag itself was a dull yellow, with a small red sunburst on the upper left corner and the company name in Vrakian running vertical down the right half. A few men in smartly-dressed suits stood at each car flanked by two soldiers. But these were no ordinary-looking soldiers, but rather Apollo’s own corporate army grunts.

A dark skinned man strode quickly to the Western Asia arrivals, his Inuit features perfectly conveying a sense of welcome. He was accompanied by two company soldiers who carried machine guns. His face burst into a smile and he said,

“Welcome to our lands. I am Kruk Suly, Assistant VP of Sales. Sorry that Harold couldn’t make it. I trust your flight was well? No problems coming in? Sometimes air traffic control can be a b@#%@! “ He laughed then briefly gestured to the sullen-faced soldiers, “Ah, they are here to provide protection. Don’t worry. We’re just being cautious.”

Upon the lapel of each suited Apollo employee, a small pin featuring the company flag was visible, while the soldiers themselves had the flag stitched into their combat fatigues.

Mr. Suly laughed and then replied,

"Oh my! You have much to learn about our ways, good sir! Anyhow, these soldiers are here to protect you. That's all. Shall we?"

With a gesture, the doors to the armoured limosuines snapped open. Mr Gatz and Mr. Suly were put into one while the rest of the staff occupied the other cars. Two soldiers also entered the limo along with Gatz, their stern expressions remaining.

"Ah, some of our boys used to be with the King's Own - which is our government's elite special ops. Eh boys?" said Kruk, as he playfully jabbed the shoulder of one of the guards. If the soldier was pissed off, one couldn't tell from his poker face.

The big engines revved up, and soon the convoy headed for downtown Vrak Prime. Kruk Suly made polite small talk and ready to answer most any question.

OOC: Will post more on the sights but basically most buildings are large, domelike structures. Downtown is where you will see skyscapers. Not much different from any other huge, modern, capitalistic city. Vrak Prime itself has over 20 million inhabitants so some shanty towns may also be seen on the outskirts - although not necessarily along your route. Since Vrak is highly militarized, expect to see the odd police APC around, if not actual military vehicles. Some wreckage might also be seen but not to a great extend. This would be from the Dozle war.
Vrak
20-05-2004, 07:58
As the limousines delved deeper, they passed by a huge field. Strangely enough, a large ship of some kind could be seen hovering overhead, with large, thick cables extended downwards which were wrapped around something. The sight appeared to be quite fanciful, for underneath the ship was the twisted hulk of yet another gently being lowered onto a massive concrete pad. The pad itself was odd in that from its surface, several steel pillars rose up, as if forming some kind of cradle for the wreckage.

"Slow down," ordered Suly, and the driver complied. Since they were in the lead car, the others had to follow suit with their passengers not knowing the reason.

"See that?" exclaimed Kruk Suly, pointing at the large ship overhead,"That's a LOW gravship! I never thought I would see the day when I would see one. But here it is! And that ship they are lowering? It's one of those Dozle frigates from the war. This is going to be a victory monument to remember all those who died fighting Dozle."

Workers could be seen directing the placement of the frigate, which was no easy task since it was easily 400 meters long, if not longer.

Suly looked at Gatz and remarked,

“Well, I don’t know much about the Lords of War, or LOW. Heck, all I know is that their province is down south. Some people figure that they aren’t even humans. Who knows?”

He throws his hands up in the air in futility. Then he looked Gatz over again.

“Say, you have any kind of military training at all? You know, like how to take care of yourself?”

The cars neared the city core. The sidewalks were packed with people going about their business while traffic began to slow due to some construction efforts.

"Hmmm, they'd be an interesting bunch to talk to...we've had gravtech for decades but it just doesn't seem to work economically unless you really have spaceships...

"As far as military training, I served my time in the Army, so I learned how to shoot and move but...well...let me just say that Western Asia hasn't had to worry about its home territory being infringed upon recently."

Gatz allows another smile to appear with this last comment.

“Oh! I don’t mean like that” exclaimed Suly. He realized that his remarks could have been misconstrued so he quickly rushed to clarify.

“Vrak is not looking to go after anyone. I meant that military training will be helpful in the upcoming negotiations. That it. Besides…”

At this, he leaned over in a conspiratorial whisper,

“I must say that certain highly placed government officials remember your contribution to the war effort against Dozle. And Vrak always remembers those who help them. Now…”

Suddenly, a loud explosion rocked the limosuine. Suly abruptly turned and looked out the rear window. The last car in the convey was engulfed in flames, with wreckage strewn from the blast into the pedestrians - injuring some. Suly cursed in his native tongue while the driver gunned the big engine and attempted to weave around cars in front. The two soldiers immediately gripped their machine guns and and cautiously glanced out the side windows.

“Do you have a gun? Nah, probably not. You’d better take this then,” said Suly. He opened a hidden compartment and handed Gatz an automatic pistol.

“Get ready to go. It looks like our rear car was hit by an RPG.”

The driver though was not very successful. There were just too many cars in the way and he ended up ramming the back end of a 2 ton truck - throwing everyone inside onto the floor. The nearest soldier opened the right rear door and exited quickly, with machine gun held over the door while he scanned the crowd.

"Follow me!" yelled Kruk Suly, exiting the limo with pistol in hand.

OOC: Okay. I took a look at a few pages. Still, nothing was brought up in the FKC parliament regarding this so I think I can safely assume that at least Vrak would be more willing than Alcona to have an Iansisle company try to get its foot in the door. As well, a large Alconian company is also seeking to buy out some of the spin offs, so mabye that will help add fuel to the fire? :) Remember that provinces in the Klatch (sometimes referred to as "nations") enjoy enourmous leeway.

Suly looked up and down the street. Most people on the street were huddling behind some form of cover while those in more exposed area were lying down so as not to get caught in any cross fire. Some braver souls were attempting to attend to the wounded.

A wailing siren drew closer and Suly yelled, "Let's go!"

He, the two corporate soldiers, the driver began to run down the street. A burst of gunfire came from a nearby building close to their position and one Apollo soldier returned fire.

"Quick! This way!" indicated Suly, pointing down a twisting alley. The soldier beckoned Gatz while Suly followed. By this time, he somehow managed to dial a number on his cellphone and began chattering.

Gatz followed the Suly under the cover of the Corporate Soldiers. At least the bodyguards know how to shoot guns, if not avoid an ambush he thought to himself.

Gatz himself returned fire a few times but couldn't really see the enemy past the smoke and flames of the wrecked cars. He was just about to open fire again when he saw the RPG coming right at their position...shit

"INCOMING!" He shouted as he dived, pulling Suly to the ground with him. The few fractions of second allowed little more than the first few words of a silent internal prayer before the rocket hit the adjacent building.

"I assure you gentlement I am not as ambitious as the magazines make me out to be. I only crave power." His booming voice echoed out over the mass of people, amplified by the speakers.

The crowd began to laugh openly at the joke that the chairman of the board made at his own expense. Since CharCorp's foundation its only goal had been establishing itself as the most powerfull corporation in Rouge Jiggady. The gathered members of the board of trustees, and major stockholders soon quieted and let their visionary leader speak again.

"Power through money, and money through power. Those words have been the foundation of CharCorp since its birth and those words will carry us to the forefront of the economic world. Money is good, and indeed to quote the prophet "Greed is good". For look where greed has gotten us today, we are responsible for nearely every product on the market in Rouge Jiggady, there is nothing that we have designed that hasnt taken the world by storm. CharCorp is responsible for the militaries weapons and vehicles, we are responsible for the rising automotive industry, we are responsible for the new space program, and we are responsible for making those idiots in Jiggady look like cavemen."

Another roar of applause and laughs filled the room, everyman and woman in the room had formerly been in a company in the old lands and each one of them had eagerly left for the opportunity to work for Charles White. Who wouldnt want to work for the fastest rising buisnes mogoul in the world, who had a fifty page article in Forbes dedicated to his life and his buisness.

"Charcorp is taking a great leap forward today announcing the buyout of Roma Inc. Today we add the great and every growing industry of book publishing to our ranks, and by tomorrow our children will be reading CharCorp textbooks in all of their schools. The word acording to CharCorp."

Again the room was filled with the thunderous roar of applause and the CEO took time to revel in it all. This was deffienetly what he craved.

"And we will not stop here, it is my hope that we will soon have more industry under our wings this time branching out of our domestic boundaries. There is a whole world out there waiting for CharCorp to claim it and I mean to do so. I mean to add to our empire and to crush those that stand in our way, it is the destiny of every man and woman in CharCorp to own the world and I promise that I will make that come true. "

Charles White raised his hands in triumph as the lights on the podium cast an enormous shadow onto the company flag behind him. People were intoxicated with his words as they jumped from their seats and thrust their own hands into the air and shouted in one voice "CharCorp!" White stood behind the podium for minutes basking in the applause, until exiting from a hidden door behind him and walking through the miles of hidden passageways through the main CharCorp complex. In his hands he unrolled the recent Economic Times magazine with his picture on the cover and the headline The Hitler of the buisness world It had been the motivation for his speech today.

"Is my jet ready?"

"Yes Mr. White, it is ready and waiting to take you to Vrak."

He smiled as the aide hurried off with his arms full of documents and another one rushed up with a tequila and lime. Charles raised the glass in a toast with the men and women surrounding him, that made up the hierarchy of his empire: "To money, and to power."

Somewhere in Vrak…

Translated from Vrakian.

-And he is where?
-Well, somehow he was able to get through customs and passport control.
-Answer my question! Where is he now?
-We believe that he is making his way towards the main Apollo headquarters. Interestingly, he was dropped off at a medium luxury hotel. Certainly not our finest.
-The fool! He does not realize how dangerous it is to come in that way. He’s lucky that he wasn’t spotted by on of the rival corporations. This whole restructing business is starting to get out of hand.
-Yes sir. We have confirmed reports that the Western Asia delegation has come under fire. An RPG blew up the last car in the convoy.
-By Bok’s flippers!
-However, Gatz is believed to be unharmed.
-Very well. Have a team pick up the Landgravine and move in to protect Gatz. I have no problem with the ancient ways with the Uy Rekuytur, but let’s try to minimize the assasination attempts beforehand?
-As you command.

==============

The RPG came uncomfortably close to where Gatz and Suly lay. The corporate meatshield wasn’t so lucky this time around. Shrapnel blazed into his leg and he lay bleeding, clawing at his right shin. Suly picked up the wounded man’s machine gun and grabbed Gatz.

“Look. All we have to do is make it to the next block. There we can enter one of our branch offices and we’ll be safe. Ready?”

OOC: Landgrave Wittelbach, Landgravine is the female version...

Landgrave Wittelbach

The Landgraves of Wittelbach are one of the oldest families in Alconian History and are the only ones to have had a Grand Duke outside of the House of Crawfords. The Wittelbachs are a decendent branch of the Royal House of Wittelbach that ruled Bavaria from 1098-1918.
The family fortune is based primarily on owning real estate in the major city of Wittelbach that was founded in 1633 as a launching point against the English across the Harbor in Thunderbay.

Today the family has increased it's fourtunes through commodities trading and portfolio investing.

The Landgrave, or "Mr. Mackoy" of Port Olympus put on his jacket as he watched the Klatchian Stock Market tape cross the bottom of the screen on the T.V. Above they were showing images of the massive Aust Class Gravship attempt to manuver the remains of a Dozle ship into place.

That thing is a hulk...Hell most non-load bearing members were torn out...The Var didn't mind handing it over after they stripped the thing bare...

A soft beeping sound filled the suite. His eyes turned to the two other people in the room.

One was a man in a dark suit. Yellowish eyes were cut into a jagged face that seemed somewhat serene as the focused on the job of rolling a 'fag' while he spread out over a chair.

A tall brunette leaned against one of the connecting doorways. Her dark, almost black eyes seemed to be focusing on something in the center of the room. Her full lips were moving into the small, crystal head of a hush mike on her head. One hand with it's long fingers keeping the small earpeice in place. She stopped and focused on the incognitto nobleman.

"Kell Lord Tukza reports a firefight in the city. It appears someone took a swipe at the competion."

Both pairs of eyes leveled on the man in the chair. "Got to be a local problem, and we wouldn't move without telling our partners in this little adventure, that and the Morrsey is still out in the Durakian Straits." He leaned back as he spoke and looked at the woman. He then pushed his tobbacco into a pocket and placed the unlit fag into his mouth.

"Alright, Zara will you please ask the Kell Lord to maintain a watch forward of our car for any potential ambushes...I was expecting things to get nasty but...not this fast. Damn, I wish I had more time to get those old Vrakian texts translated."

The blond nodded and began to speak again, although only a faint murmer could be heard from her.

"I'd say it's time to grab the heavy gear for this little trip..." The man stated as he pushed himself up and began to look for his lighter.

"Agreed, your read of the situation was better than mine,...Our appointment at the attorney's office is in half an hour"

The group began to prepare to leave for the appointment, which was conviently scheduled near the Appollo headquarters. The yellowed eyed man grapped a heavy metal case, opened it and slipped a thin notebook computer inside.

The woman grappled a large roll case over her shoulder and kept the hush mike on her head.

The Landgrave picked up a small valise and a cane, ignoring an identical cane next to the door. The group entered the hall and then took the elevator to the lobby.

((I'll remove if this is a bit much))

The Apollo people sent to get the Landgrave pulled up before the Hotel and noticed a taxi waiting outside the front windows. A youth with a paper in his lap stood up and walked across to the front doors as "Mr. Makoy" walked out of the hotel lobby towards the taxi.
The newspaper covered one arm and hand as it raised up towards the Landgrave.

The brunette came out of a side door and turned back. Her eyes locked on the youth. He noticed the movement and turned his head for a second, smiled at the pretty girl and didn't even see that the Landgrave's cane was pointing at his chest.

*Thuuuwap* could barely be made above the street noise as the youth looked down at the lower portion of the cane now lodged through his chest. The paper and the silenced automatic it was covering clattered to the ground as the junior assassin fell over.

Gatz stood in a half-crouch in the alley now, well covered with dust and minor scratches...his suit somewhat trashed by the last few minutes, as he checked his gun and looked where Suly was pointing. He couldn't help but feel sorrow for the poor corporate guard, but for people like Gatz, these were times where self preservation overcame sympathy.

"Got it, let's get going." Gatz follows Suly down the alley now, leaving the crippled soldier behind.

Suly and Gatz rounded the corner. Up ahead, the tall office tower loomed, not exactly resembling a place of sanctuary. They scrambled inside and the guards raised their guns at the sight of two armed men entering the building. Shouting in Vrakian, Suly frantically shrieked,

-It’s okay! I’m Kruk Suly, VP ID29845. We are being pursued by unknowns. Secure this facility!

Warily, the guards shooed out any customer, who at this time were cowering in the corners, and locked the main doors. One guard, covered by his fellows, asked for Suly’s ID which he promptly produced. A scan and then a phone call affirmed Suly’s story and soon they were taken to a nearby elevator. Flanked by two guards, Suly and Gatz ascended.

[Guard]-You are safe here, sir. A chopper will be arriving shortly to take you to headquarters.
[Suly]-Praise Bok! We’re okay now.

The guard winced slightly. Turning to Gatz, Suly said, “It’s okay. A chopper will come and take us to HQ. We will be safe there.”

Suly looked at Gatz as the chopper flew over the capital's skyline. Some military jets could be seen far off in the distance - heading out into the Walrus sea.

"Oh, this is bad bad bad. But I'm sure we will prevail."

He raised his left hand will a balled fist and cried,

The Vrakian pick-up team did not come in time to prevent the assassination attempt since they were too far away. They did, however, see the Landgrave’s cane sticking out of the youth. One agent smiled and secretly praised the old man.

A black car pulled up on the curb in front of the Alconian delegation. Two rather large men dressed in tuxedos got out followed by an older gentleman. The three of them approached the Landgrave, taking care not to stray too close to the pretty young brunette and the Var. They also kept an eye out for any Apollo people and were under orders to keep them away – for now.

The older man looked at the Landgravine and smiled

“George Hukril, Vrakian Intelligence,” he said as he flashed his ID. Then he looked at the youth, “Nice work. Shall we go? I have orders to take you safely to Apollo HQ. It seems that some folks don’t like your presence here.”

The large walrus looked up from the computer monitor at the arrivals. In front of his polished stone desk were luxurious chairs inlaid with various sea shells and semi-precious gems. The overhead chandelier lit the large room but shadows were still present in the corners. Near his left was an unoccupied chair. Outside, clouds began to form and shone their pale light into the room. Behind the walrus stood two, imposing men dressed in civilian clothes. They were armed, of course, but nothing visible. Just a simple handgun.

“I am sorry for the troubles that you encountered. It appears that some are eager to take Apollo for themselves. However, I am glad that you are hear safely and in one piece.”

A smile.

“Before I continue, I should identify myself. I am Quoort Orut, Financial Minister of the Vrak government. In a minute, I will explain the rules that govern a corporate takeover in our nation. I’m sure all of you have read our brief history that we sent out in the information package? If not, I can provide you with a copy. A flourish with his flipper and in strode Rex from the Financial Minister’s left. He glowered at the arrivals and sat down in the chair near Orut. He was a big fellow, nearly six foot seven and resembled a kegger with arms and legs. His suit, although tailor made, seemed to protest when he moved and his thick neck bulged through his shirt collar. Today, it bulged more. A crown of white hair and black eyes under brushy eyebrows did nothing to soften his demeanor.

A public announcement was made today by Bret Mumbbles spokesmen for Wittelbach-Bathaway on the recent aquistion of Apollo Motors.

A small man, who looks something like a mole with thick glasses stands up to the podium. It is actually a bit tall for the short man and he is forced to step up on a box to be seen by the cameras.

The voice that comes out is deep, mellow and confident, an odd dicotomy with his small stature and poor looks.

"Ladies, Gentlemen, and Gentlecreatures, we wish to announce the reorginization of several of our current autmotive industries into a new consolidated company, Olypmic Motors. Olympic will be the merger of the best technology, best design, best manufacturing, and the finest quality throughout the Klatch. As such, the new company will be headquarted in Port Olympus and registered under the guidelines of that city state. Of course this will envolve shifts in personell as some divisions of our holdings will be redundent. Buyout packages will be available."

It is estimated that almost 65% of the staff of Apollo Motors will be laid off in the comming days.
