--In the year 2472, on April twenty-fourth, Xanthal sent its first Excursion class starship, XAS-178, on a fifty-year exploratory mission of G419; a distant, unexplored galaxy. Tasked with mapping as much of the space there as possible and making contact with all eligible sentient races it discovered, it left our galaxy at five hundred million times the speed of light, heading into the unknown with its crew of almost ten thousand men, women, and children.--

Today marked a great day in Xanthalian history. XAS-178, the Excursion class starship we sent into the unknown over fifty years ago, has returned. The ship docked in orbit of Aellis VII this afternoon, and will be accessed as soon as security sweeps are completed tomorrow morning. These sweeps are to ensure that no unmanageable risks have been carried to us from G419, the distant galaxy from which XAS-178 has returned. When those scans are complete and any issues have been dealt with, the airlocks will open and our brave adventuring comrades will be with us once again. Initial data transfers indicate that the crew population has dropped to six thousand from its original ten thousand due to deaths of crew members over its long absence. There are, however, almost five hundred aliens from ten planets that have returned with the ship to establish contact with us. XAS-178 charted over two trillion cubic light-years of galactic space in its mission and established contact with sixteen previously unknown races. Only time will reveal the mission's greatest accomplishments as XAS-179, the original Excursion's sister ship, begins preliminary preparations for a mission to complete the survey of G419 scheduled to begin in January of 2525 and run for almost sixty years.
