Space Question:(Opinions Wanted)

((First a little disclaimer: I hate deciding in which forum to post this in, but I think NS attracts a usually better crowd than II (no offense I use II to). That and II seems more for storefronts and wars... so here it is))

(This is OOC because your nation will not know of their existance untill the release date unless you want to RP some form of spy with me)

AFRP (meaning myself) has decided that limiting to mere earthbound situations is too confining. At the same time we also know that pure spacetech would require a split in forces (one for space and one for modern). So we have picked a new middle ground:

The Modern+ Space nation! If you ask, "How is this possible?" read on and hopefully your questions will be answered, if not please ask them!

Now onto the Ships!

First off is the Alpha (alpha because its our first) (PS: need a new name, post name idea too) Class Battle Carrier.

Alpha Class

(Pics come with IC release)

Length: 1,292 feet
Width: 326.2 feet
Powerplant: Nuclear plant (electic power)/Thorium based nuclear propulsion
Mass: (est) 147,000 tons
Armament: Four bow based 200mm Railguns; Three (Two in front one in back) "Thor" Cannons [more information later]; 150 assorted missile tubes
Craft: 61 (60 fighters; 1 scout)
Counter-measures: 3 feet composit armor around ship and 4 feet on bow; Interceptor missiles (small fast missiles); PD lasers (point defense); ECM (electromic counter measures)
Sensors: Gravametric and Radar (active and passive)

General: The first ship to be commished by the Mikosolf Exo-Atmospheric Core is the Alpha class "Odin", followed shortly by the "Thor", "Loki", and "Hel".

Designed to take a beating and keep on comming the Alpha class has many redundent systems. Duel Fighter bays means that even if one door/bay is damaged all fighters can return to the still functioning one. Though the possiblility of its inferiority against more advance ships we hope these designs prove at least worthth if not challenging oppents (or crushingly victorious :P ).

Thunderhead Fighter

(Pics come with IC release)

Lenght: 38 ft
Width: 12 ft
Mass: 15 tons
Powerplant: Hydrogen fuelcells (rechargable)-Ionic Engines (Xenon)
Armament: Two "Thunderhead" lances; a pair of 30mm DU recoil-less cannons
Sensors: Radar (active and passive)

General: Designed as a support fighter for the more lumbering Alpha Class Battle Cruisers these nimble little fighters utilize four points (in a square) as thrust for both speed and manuvering. That when one engine slows down the one diagional to it speeds up allowing for great agility.

Its most notable feature is its duel lances (more on that later) which can be used both against enemy fighters but even more heavily armored foes as well. The 30mm cannons are also used against fighters but can possible be used against capital ships.

We all know that carriers are good and well, especially when they have offensive capabilities, but that can never compare with a good battleship.

Introducing the Aegir Class Battleship.

(I use the dictionary.com definition)

(Pics w/pending release)

Dimensions:

Length: 1,394.35 feet (due to extended railguns)
Width: 311.67 feet (885.8 feet outer pylon to pylon)
Height: 295 feet
Mass: 1250 tons

Powerplant:
See Alpha Carrier

Armament:

Five 300mm Railguns (one is slung under ship)
Four (Two on pylons; one on top and bottom alternate near center) "Thor" Cannons
200 missile tubes <Primaraly small nukes>
30 Turreted 50mm DU recoil-less cannons

Counter-measures:

3.5 feet composit armor around ship and 5 feet on bow;
Interceptor missiles (small fast missiles);
PD lasers (point defense);
ECM (electromic counter measures)

Sensors:

Gravametric;
Radar (active and passive)

General:

These are the second class of ships approved by the Mikosolf Exo-Atmospheric Core. Slightly larger and heavier than the Alpha Carriers (heavier when carrier is not loaded down with planes) this ship is another vertabret in the backbone of the Corperate E-A Navy. More firepower and larger caliber is what really seperates this from the Alpha.

Currently six of these behemiths are slowly being constucted in classified locations within Mikosolf territory. The plans are to release all these ships at once in one giant cordinated launch coresponding with 1-B day.

The first six ships are to be called: "Balder", "Delling", "Freya", "Hod", "Magni", and "Ran".

(anyone notice a theme yet with my early ships?)

(PS: if anyone thinks of a better name for the carriers post it here!)

(PPS: All dimensions are on the unarmored superstructure. [for both ships])

______________

Specifics and Technicals:

FLT

Now I pondered on this for quite sometime and I think I have a wonderfully feasible (not to practical) way of getting places quickly. Now this requires most of the ships power so blah!

Using multistate speaker a low low low frequency vibration is created, using the ship's hull (mainly the armored bow) it is amplified. What this sound does is instead of making matter vibrate it makes the universes substructure vibrate, forcefully creating a rift in space. Entering the rift the ship rides on the universal superstrings are incredible speeds to its destination.

However, untill we chart routes sufficiently a scout is used to pilot the larger ship. Utilizing our mind machine interface the scout is able to work at the speed of thought allowing him to cart a course in nanoseconds because thats all the time he has to do it, though to him its almost a infinite amount of time).

One last thing is that in order to do this it must leave any large gravatonic disturbances (planets suns) by going above the solar plane.

Foreign Terms

I hope you all know what ionic engines are (powerful flashlights bascially) so I'll get to the few things that you may-should not know.

First: Thorium based nuclear propulsion

Basically it uses controlled nuclear explosions to propell the ships girth along, allowing for more power and speed than ionic engines, and longer use than solid fuel engines.

Second: "Thunderhead" lance and "Thor" Cannons

First, I hope you all know what lasers are, good. First off in both these designs are three lasers placed in a ring, this ring will spin at excess of 4000 RPM creating a near solid ring of laser light. The centerpoint is, in a sense, an ionic engine, but instead of being used to propell the vessel it fires a much more dense beam designed to literally punch its way through the hull, and it does so with the lasers help.

When the lasers strike the target the heat the metal (its done in a sweep or the lasers are focused into the ion stream)) and when the ions impact upon the near molten hull the force bends it inwards creating a pocket where more and more energy (light, heat, and ions) get trapped. This pocket is what burrows through the hull untill it reaches the other side in a explosive burst.

Now the Thunderhead lance is just that and a ship has two which can be aimed and focused. The cannon on the ship is merely three assemblies (making it 9 lasers and 3 beams) per cannon. Futhermore while the Thunderhead has a limited firing time (power of the ship) the cannons backed by the nuclear reactors of the main ship can fire almost indefinatly.

Third: Gravametric Sensors

In effect detects the bending of space from gravity. Can detect anything from about 10 tons+. Also will work through almost all types of cloaking.

Okay, I haven't read all of it (sorry), but what I did read seems fine with me. You should have no problems here

(and your Gravametric Sensors are a blatant rip-off of my Massometers! )

Not bad for low-tech space; your energy weapons are interesting, but I'd have invested in large, tightly focused lasers at this tech level, as realisticly they'd be more effective(but this ain't RL, so it doesn't really matter).

You might want to change the missiles from small nukes to city-killer strategic nukes; no air reduces bomb effectiveness(no overpressure, etc), and yeilds tend to be alot higher amoung space nations.

Excellent point on the yield of nukes, it shall be done.

As to the lasers, later ships may encorperate such a design, but the way they are currently set up it not only melts/burns the hull but also warps it weakening the structure in that area.

Thanks you your comments (as they are exactly what I'm looking for, constructive critisism).
