In a somber press conference today, representatives of the Principality of Skeelzania announced the death of Grand Prince Baad Skeelzot at the age of 87.
Skeelzot had been bedriddin the last nine years of his life; his body destroyed by radiation sickness. Since Skeelzanian law provides no means for abdication, his son and heir Dmitri Skeelzot ruled in his name during this period.
Baad Skeelzot was the father of Skeelzania. It was he who first led the five million terran colonists from Earth to the distant Spoot Star in search of a new home. There, he led the attack against the indigenous gnomes of Solomon, carving out land for himself and his people. Other significant events of his reign include Skeelzania's entry into the New Aranamor Alliance, the Battle of Relafia, and the Bandalok attack on Skeelzania. Through every crisis he guided the nation with determination, skill, and without shyness to use force when it was called for and when it was right.
A date for teh state funeral has not yet been set, though this is expected to be announced soon. The coronoation of Dmitri Skeelzot as Grand Prince will take place shortly after the funeral; we will bring you details as they are released.
