RYKESGRAD - The Rykian Parliament voted in favor of abolishing formal political parties in a move that comes as no surprise to the political establishment in the capital. Prime Minister Retherton supports the measure as a sign of the growing importance of a unitary government in the developing Rykian state.
Opposition to the measure was surprisingly light, as the goal of a unitary state has been one rallying cry of the people as their new state is formed. Despite calls that the end of political parties means the end of the government, Retherton in public remarks made clear his intention of striving for a cabinet that would include all points of view and has thus singled out Ivan Grushev and Ashley Thomason from his former opposition party to be his Minister of Defense and Interior, respectively.
Retherton praised the vote and celebrated the historic vote with the announcement of a parade in honor of the people of Rykia.
