Introduction
Background: The now-defunct Democratic States of Herradura originally comprised most the land area of what is now the Democratic Underground region. In 1873, the Herraduran Civil War resulted in each state forming its own nation, with the Liberal Unitary Republic of Goobergunchia being the largest of these nations. The Liberty Party has been the dominant Goobergunchian political party throughout the nation's 141-year history; usually headed by a member of the Goobergunch family (decendants of the original revolutionaries), it stresses liberal policies at home combined with an isolationist foreign policy.

Location: Democratic Underground region, in the far north, bordered on three sides by water and connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of non-Goobergunchia land on the west and a land bridge with Allanea on the southeast; on the south, borders a large lake across from Allanea.
