helps hold alliances together, gives a sense of closeness on a big forum like NS (well, except uber-sized regions like the Pacifics and Rejected Realms)

It's a place for you nation to be. Some use them as alliances...personally...I live in a "region" with my puppets (you can check it out, it's the "Orion Sector"). I play it as my nation and my puppets are actually planets in a vast area of space.
