Hunters of Waking Nightmares (Closed Modern Fantasy RP)

Otto Schlesing woke up screaming. Drenched in sweat, Otto sat up on his bed, clutching his head in agony. Glancing about at his surroundings, Otto sighed as he recognized that he was still in a small, bare guestroom of a seedy motel. It was nothing more than another nightmare… But this one seemed so real… It’s as if it was reality… Swinging his feet off the bed and into the boots laid out on the floor, Otto grimaced as he moved, his muscles aching.

Standing up, Otto rocked a little, still a little disoriented from his nightmare. As Otto donned his jacket, deeply troubled by the frequency of the nightmares, having begun to occur more and more frequently, until the same nightmare occurred every single night. Something was very wrong, but Otto couldn’t place his finger on what it was. Sighing, Otto clipped on his belt with a holster attached and slowly staggered out of his austere room and down the stairs. His boots booming each time they landed on each stair. Reaching the lobby, Otto grabbed a paper, two days old, and headed for the exit. Opening the door, Otto was cooled by a gust of chilly, winter wind. Sighing gratifyingly, Otto slowly walked onto the street and headed for the nearest diner. Entering the diner, Otto plopped down on the nearest table and sat back.

A frazzled waitress walked over and with an impatient tone asked, “What do you want to order?”

Glancing at his watch, Otto realized that it was nine in the evening. Frowning, Otto replied, “I’ll like some decaffeinated coffee with an egg and cheese on a roll.”

“That’s all?”

“Yup…”

“Be right there…”

As the waitress departed, Otto glanced down at the paper that he had taken. Immediately, Otto was drawn to a headline, announcing the mysterious kidnapping and murder of several women over the past few months. Deeply perturbed as it was extremely similar what had occurred several years earlier, Otto sat back and frowned, his mind in deep concentration. What the hell is going on in this city!?! Ugh… After a millennia are those bastards back? Damn’t! Can’t they give this a rest? Sighing Otto glanced up as the waitress came over and placed down in front of Otto a cup of steaming hot coffee and a plate with an egg and cheese on roll. Picking up the cup, Otto sniffed the odorous smell of the coffee as he slowly savored its warmth. Placing the cup back into its saucer, Otto voraciously dug into the roll. Within seconds, Otto was done. Taking another sip of the coffee, Otto dug out of his pocket, ten dollars, more than enough to cover the cost of his dinner. As the waitress came over to pick up the dishes, Otto stood and grunted in thanks. Wheeling on the heels of his feet, Otto exited the diner and headed into the bowels of the city, seeking answers to his nightmares.

Later that night, Otto trudged slowly down a deserted alley in the Harlem district of the city, his keen eyes glancing about, searching for any abnormality. Suddenly, Otto saw something and stopped, his mind not accepting what his eyes were telling him. In front of Otto on a small backdoor, he saw a carved insignia, dripping with blood, several days old. A sign very similar to something from Otto’s past and which turned Otto’s blood cold with terror.

Otto’s hand quickly dropped to holster. Drawing his powerful revolver, Otto quickly moved towards the door. Calming himself, Otto kicked the door open and with a roar, moved inside, his eyes quickly adjusting to the darkness inside. For piled in front of Otto in the dark room was a pile of what seemed to be bodies. Baring his teeth, revealing his abnormally long canines in anger, Otto moved closer, his revolver raised as he moved closer to examine the bodies. As Otto moved closer, he realized that the bodies had been drained entirely of blood. What Otto saw, would be forever etched his mind, in his waking nightmares, and into his every thought. Sitting down upon the cold hard floor, whimpering, Otto’s mind turned to a horrid event that occurred sometime in his distant and bizarre past.

Nearly two millennia ago, Otto had been born in the bowels of the slowly strengthening city of Rome, attempting to gain control over the Gauls in the north. Otto had joined Gaius Julius Caesar as a centurion in Caesar’s veteran Tenth Legion, fighting bravely in Gaul. One day, while Otto was leading two cohorts of the Tenth Legion on a routine patrol, they were attacked by an army of Gauls. The entire Roman force was massacred… Otto himself was hit with fifty arrows and pierced over a hundred times by spears and swords… Upon the battlefield as he slowly died from his grave wounds, a creature found him, a creature who possessed great pity. Choosing Otto as his “successor,” the creature turned Otto into a creature of darkness and the damned, extracting from Otto a promise to protect the innocent and annihilate the evil in the realm as to fulfill a timeless vendetta.

Near the first millennia of his life, New York City suffered a strange series of murders, with all the victims either drained entirely of blood or torn apart. Otto then an investigator for the Federal Bureau of Investigations, worked to solve the murders. As Otto chased each clue, he came closer and closer to a group of formidable creatures, known as the Dark Ones. The Dark Ones were a group containing a myriad of creatures, ranging from vampires to werewolves. Over ten years, Otto attempted to annihilate the threat, the monsters damned to torment humanity. Through the tried method of divide and conquer, Otto eliminated the fearsome monsters one by one. When Otto killed the fifth monster within the group, the remaining creatures of the group split up and disappeared. Although over the years, Otto managed to track down only one member of the group, a vampire named Acular, Otto was nearly killed during the tracking. But now, it seemed as if they had returned… The creatures of nightmares had come back once more to torment humanity once more.

Swearing under his breath, Otto stood up and turned around and was startled by a figure crouching in the darkness behind Otto. Surprised, Otto pointed his revolver at the figure and challenged, “Who are you?”

The figure rose and walked closer into the dim light, opened his mouth, baring and revealing the sharp fangs, identifying himself as a vampire. Smirking, the figure said, “Someone you sought to kill but failed to do so, years ago…”

Otto frowned as he glanced over the figure, noting the bared fangs and the dark clothing that allowed it to hide in the darkness. With realization, Otto said, “Acular?”

“Of course, did you think I was dead?” the vampire retorted and then continued on in a more humane and comforting tone, “Otto Schlesing, you haven’t changed one bit since you challenged me and the rest of the Dark Ones almost one millennia ago. But I warn you… This time your facing something way out of your league. If you wish to battle them as you once did a millennia ago, you must seek assistance from other skilled hunters… I may be in your league, but your other opponents are beyond your current abilities…”

“And what if I don’t believe you?” Otto replied, cocking his revolver.

“Then, you will bring yourself onto the path of your own destruction.”

“Ha… Your words are nothing to me for I don’t trust you or your brethren,” Otto replied as he pulled the trigger of his revolver, sending a bullet, made of a melted silver cross, through Acular’s chest and into his heart. As Acular staggered backwards in surprise and in pain, Otto continued to fire, sending bullet after bullet into Acular’s chest, tearing it apart. Satisfied, Otto turned to depart, but Acular doggedly clutched Otto’s left leg.

In a stuttering, painful tone, Acular said simply, “You are one of us… You are one of my brethren, one of my kin, one of my people…” Laughing, he continued coughing painfully, “Otto Schlesing, you will know your place soon enough… Your hunt is only beginning…”

Acular let go and with shudder died. Frowning at Acular’s final words, Otto departed from the building, his revolver still in his hands. Standing outside, Otto, holstered his revolver and pulled a pack of cigarettes from out of his back pocket. Picking out the last cigarette from the carton, Otto lit it and took a long drag from it, attempting to calm his racing thoughts. With the cigarette clenched tightly between his lips, Otto continued on his way. Acular, you’re right, my hunt is only beginning… By the time I’m done, you creatures of evil will be eliminated… Alas, you’ll never see this…

In the darkness of night a man walked down the street. He wore all black, including a trenchcoat and sunglasses.

Phobos was in town.

He was a new vampire, but in his "previous life" he had been a vamp hunter. He ran his long-nailed fingers through his messy dark-brown hair.

Walking down the street he saw two vampires dragging a woman into a dark alley. They were probably going to "have thier way with her" as it is politely put.

Phobos found such behaviors to be utterly discusting. He made his way to the alley. He saw the two vamps preparing to begin thier fun with the unconsios woman...

Suddenly, he pulled out two revolvers out of his coat and shot both vamps in the head with silver bullets. This woke the woman up and she started screaming.

Phobos quieted the woman down using mind-waves and made her fall asleep again. Then he pulled her to him and began to drink.
--------------------------------------------------------------

The woman dead, Phobos walked out into the night. Suddenly, he felt something...he couldn't explain it. It was almost a shadow, a power he had never encountered before...

Phobos had always curious, so he went on to follow this mysterious force...

OOC: Nice first post, 5CN.

IC:

To think I once thought this the pinnacle of human civilization. Jake glanced contemptuously at the seedy bars and cheap hotels lining the street on which he stood. Once, many years ago, the city had seemed to hold the promise of everything mankind had to offer. Now it was a cesspool.

Jake pulled a silver coin from his pocket and flipped it. He already knew it would come up tails. In the last two years, no matter how many times he had flipped that coin, it had always come up tails. He caught it in one hand and automatically started to put it back in his pocket without looking at it. Suddenly his hand stopped. With a puzzled expression on his face, Jake opened his fingers to gaze at the coin.

Heads. But why now? The puzzled look vanished to be replaced by a thoughtful visage. He suddenly realized that people where staring at him and resumed walking. The last thing he needed was to draw attention this far from home. A few blocks down he paused, stiffening with shock.

Heads. Of course! It makes perfect sense. This whole time, I was looking in the right place...for the wrong thing! He scanned the street with his eyes quickly, taking in the area. He made for a nearby alley, walking quickly but resisting the urge to run. When he reached the mouth of the alley, he found bloodstains on the ground. There was no body...but there, a small pile of dust on the ground. A hunter, perhaps? Or an internal conflict? Jake didn't really care. He continued in the alley for a few minutes. As he passed another of the seemingly endless sea of broken down buildings, he caught sight of a man. Or at least, someone who looked like a man.

Peculiar that even after so many millenia, they haven't realized that they don't walk like true living beings do. Jake pulled his Argentum pistol from his jacket and aimed at the figure. "Stop right there!"

OOC: I assume Acular fell into dust after he died. The figure he's aiming at, in case you aren't sure, is Otto.

It was around 11 PM when Mitchell Ikioi began his return trip from his work at RSF headquarters which lately seemed to be more of a home than where he slept at night. It was a beautiful evening, he decided it wasn't worth taking his car home, it was time to walk. Th sky was almost black now, sun barely squeezing out of the existance of the day and giving way to night. He came upon a pond familiar to him, fond childhood memories of skipping rocks flooded into his memory. After training in the military and eventually being taken into the Riokian Special Forces for superb combat maneuvers and excellent marksmanship, memories such as this were rare. He jerked himself back to reality, noticing a dark shape upon the water. It seemed body like, Ikioi sprang into action. "Are you alright?" he called into the pond. The lack of reply prompted him to dive in. He reached the body and drug it to shore. Turning it over he recoiled in fear. The mouth of the human, or at least he thought it was, was stretched far beyond human porportions in a look of sheer terror. A low growl sounded from the pond, an odd limb lashing out at him. Ikioi was dragged under water, taken by surprise he had gotten little time to get air before he was submerged. His reflexes now recovered from the initial shock, he unsheathed his katana and lashed at the limb. A warbled cry from the creature sent shivers into Ikioi as black blood seethed through the water. Surfacing, he ran to shore and left the body. The RSF forensic scientists can take care of this one. Badly shaken, he forgot about home and turned back to go to headquarters.

OOC: I assume mortals are allowed in this as well?

(OOC: Whoops... Sorry, I wasn't really awake, when I read it... Sorry... )

Otto Schelsing paused as he heard someone from behind yell at him to stop. Slowly Otto turned around, his hands slightly raised in what seemed to be nothing more than "meek submission," his cigarette still clenched tightly in his lips. Calmly, Otto's right hand moved and took the cigarette from his mouth. Puffing out a cloud of smoke, Otto took another drag at the cigarette and addressed his challenger. In a booming voice, Otto said, "What do you want little one? What do you want?"

Like lightning, Otto suddenly removed his custom revolver from its holster and pointed it at his adversary.

"Make it quick, I have a job to do..."

OOC: Jake would have fired as soon as Otto's hands dropped below chest cavity. Standard procedure. But I won't make an issue of it now.

IC: Jake's eyebrows shot up when the man, he could see now it was male, called him "little." Standing at 7'4", he hadn't been called little for almost three millenia. He also was not particularly impressed with the man's attempts to intimidate him. From the job he had done on the vampire, he was clearly carrying silver bullets, which would not cause Jake any real harm. They certainly might be painful and inconvenient, however, so he decided he had best answer the man's query. He had noted with some interest how quickly the creature drew its weapon. Impressive.

"I wanted to ask you a couple off questions. Starting with why you killed that vampire. Is there some recent internal strife within the society of New York's undead community that I was not aware of? It's been a while since I saw one undead kill another. Especially with a hunter's weapon."

(OOC: Sorry about that... Um... What is your character, so Otto can be able to identify you and I can stop writing little one and such...)

Otto began to laugh as he heard the little one speak. What an idiot... Quickly Otto stopped laughing and flicked his cigarrette into the street. Staring straight at the little one standing in front of him, Otto narrowed his eyes into dangerous slits. In a cold, snarling voice, he said, "It is none of your business... I am only fulfilling an age old vendetta that should have been fulfilled a millenia ago... There is always strife, for there is never peace and tranquility. If you wish to seek the truth about things, follow me and I shall show you the true strife that exists within everything."

Without another word, Otto turned, holstering his custom revolver, walking deliberately down the street...

Ikioi walked through the front doors of the RSF (Riokian Special Forces) headquarters. He slowly shuffled to report the incident. I'm gonna have nightmares for weeks...

"Sir," he said as he reached command.

"Ikioi what the hell are you doing here, you look like shit and I gave you leave."

"Sir, I was on my way home, and I found a body in the water."

"You dove in a presume, saved the person."

"I tried to but, you could say sir, that I was a little late."

"Drowned already then, poor guy."

"I couldn't tell, it's face was too messed up comprehend the facial features. It's face was...stretched...I was attacked by some odd monster from the lake-"

"Damn it if your going to waste my time at least make it good."

"If you don't believe me you can go see for yourself."

"I'll send a team."

"Thank you sir."

2 Hours Later

Five men walked into the FNS lobby, approached Ikioi.
"You found it?"

"Yes, it."

"I know that tone guys, come on, don't do this. You know it was there. You had to have seen it."

"You need to come with us Lieutenant."

Ikioi bolted for the door and to his car. So much for an easy evening. Reaching home, he hastily threw some things in a breifcase such as his custom made automatic pistol and left. Heading for an old warehouse, home originally to an old syndicate busted up by the RSF three years earlier. Finding the door, he stepped back. An odd insignia was drawn on it. An new drug gang possibly? This definately wasn't here three years ago... Drawing his katana for the second time that evening, he pushed open the door and almost threw up. Before him was a pile of bodies, drained of all life and blood, horrifically skinny and mangled. Has the world gone mad?!! What the hell is going on here?

OOC: Sorry, here's a description:

Jake is a Guanyan male Schvort, a genetically engineered demihuman. He is 7'4" in height but slender. Like many Guanyans, he has facial features that resemble those of a mix between a Mongolian and Chinese. He always wears dark, nondescript clothing, seldom black.

IC:

Still the melodrama. Jake wondered whether the man was trying to impress him or if this was simply how the man acted usually. His curiosity was aroused now, however, and he holstered his pistol and followed the man.

Otto stalked swiftly through the streets, expecting for the tall stranger to follow him. He's tall, but only mortal... Quietly, Otto began to check his surroundings, noting the changes in the architecture. In the distance, Otto heard a scream. Frowning, Otto began to run through the streets, bound towards the scream, his custom revolver drawn. Noting that the tall stranger was still following him, Otto moved into a dark alleyway, where the scream had emanated from.

Hunched in the alley was a massive dark figure, carrying in his arms a smaller figure. At first, one would assume that the first figure was mourning the second. But upon closer examination, a casual observer could see that the dark figure had sunk its teeth into the smaller figure.

Noting the special mark on the dark figure's cloak, Otto quickly brought his revolver to bear upon the crouched figure and yelled, "Get up, Takls... Your time upon this realm is over..."

Swiftly, the dark figure dropped the person in its arms and stood. Walking into the dim light, the dark figure bared its teeth. Grinning menacingly, he said, "Ah... Otto Schlesing... I didn't quite expect you here..."

"Takls, why are you assisting the Dark Ones?"
Guanyu
29-04-2004, 00:22
Jake watched silently, searching his internal database for the term "Dark One" or the name "Takls." He found nothing for the latter, but the former returned very sketchy information on a suspected cult of unknown origin. The record was several hundred years old. Interesting.
Five Civilized Nations
29-04-2004, 00:35
Takls grinned wickedly and gestured at the towering figure behind Otto and said, "I should be asking you a similar question... Why are you helping these mortals, these little ones? You are one of the oldest vampires still alive upon this mortal plane... You are renowned throughout the dark circles as one of the most deadly fighters alive... Why are you aiding these soft ones?"

Gesturing at Jake, Otto said, "I am not assisting these soft mortals... I am only using them to complete my vendetta, the elimination of the foul nightmares that has plagued the mortal plane since the creation of my master... I have sworn to my master to complete this vendetta, which I will complete at all costs, including consorting with these pathetic, soft mortals..."

Takls barked in laughter and said, "Then you don't mind me dismembering this human than, hmm?" Without waiting for an answer, Takls pounced, two daggers clutched tightly in his hands as he jumped to attack Jake.

(OOC: Guanyu, you can control Takls as long as you don't kill him to quickly. Remember unless its with a custom weapon, blessed and made of silver, you can't hurt Takls for long...)
Guanyu
29-04-2004, 01:05
OOC: This is gonna be fun. I hope the mortal thing was deliberate. I DID mention he was several thousand years old.

IC:

Jake watched calmly as Takls launched himself forward. As his attacker neared him, he launched a vicious snap-kick to Takls's head, spinning him around. "Foolish one. I am neither 'little' nor mortal."

As Takls came at him again, he pulled two silver shortswords from his belt and assumed a fighting stance. Takls, seeing the silver, backed off a bit and came in more cautiously. Guessing that a mere mortal (for such he believed Jake to be) of Jake's stature would be fairly slow moving, he darted in suddenly and stabbed at Jake's chest. Jakes turned away, lightning fast, and caught only the slightest of scratches over the breastbone. He countered with a swing that left a gash in Takls's left arm.

OOC: 5CN, you can have him back now, since I think you understand my character a bit better. Only thing I should mention is that being a Schvort (I mentioned that a couple posts back), he is genetically engineered to be an undead hunter. His body itself is blessed by Guanyan rabbis, priests and ministers and his touch is painful, though not lethal, to undead. He can sense undeath and carries several silver weapons besides the two swords he is using now.
Five Civilized Nations

Otto shook his head in amusement at Takls lack of ability. Laughing, Otto raised his revolver and pointed it at Takls saying, "You have no skill Takls... Not even to defeat such a soft mortal... Therefore... Die!"

With that, Otto pulled the trigger on his revolver sending five holy, silver bullets thudding into Takls chest. Writhing in agony, Takls dropped to the floor, his entire chest blown apart. Slowly, he disintegrated into dust.

Turning his head, Otto glanced at Jake, shaking his head. Suddenly, Otto stopped, his ears picking up a screech of tires (OOC: Rioki arriving at the warehouse). Walking quickly to the street, Otto gazed down at the warehouse, four blocks away. Glancing swiftly back at Jake, he said, "We have company... Come, if you wish to witness a little more bloodshed," while grinning maliciously...

"I have got to get away from these bodies," Ikioi said to himself. Moving away and around to the other side of the warehouse, he noticed 2 shadows moving stealthily towards the warehouse door. This was nothing unusual, except that he could hear no footfalls. Such a being to walk that quietly had to be inhuman, even with Special Ops training Ikioi couldn't stay completely silent, at least with shoes on concrete anyway. Becoming accustomed to seeing odd things that night, he slipped into some shadows a few old munitions boxes were casting. He could do nothing now, nothing but crouch and wait. And so, fastening the silencer to his automatic pistol, he waited.

Phobos followed his minds "smell". He felt the engergy growing stronger as he got closer. He suddenly stopped on top of a rooftop. Listening to Jake and Otto, he was rather intregued by Otto, he was a bit pompus, but what being of the supernatural wasnt?

He almost laughed when the two killed Takls, the ass was weak and over confident. One must choose his battles carefully, as young as he was, even Phobos knew that.

He watched the two run off, adn he decided to follow....

Otto's attention then turned to the warehouse where he had been only twenty minutes before. His keen eyes checked over the ground and he sniffed, noting the stench of someone, a human, terrified, hiding somewhere. Grinning wickedly, Otto bared his teeth.

"Come out, come out, wherever you are..." Otto said, his tone full of malice.

Otto grunted when the bullets slammed into him. Although the bullets couldn't hurt him, it still stung. Turning around, Otto growled dangerously and moved forth, baring his teeth.

"You will pay for this impertinence," Otto said as he moved forth, disregarding his weapons. "You have mettled in something beyond your comprehension, mortal, and now you will pay..."

Otto caught the katana in his hand as the swing neared his head. Although the polished and fine metal cut into his hands, Otto didn't even notice, intent upon draining the human of his blood...

Ikioi's blade neared the being's head. Gotcha now... Suddenly the sword stopped, as the creature made one deft movement with its hand and caught it. The bullets hadn't done much, just made the being even more upset. Fear and adrenaline pulsed through Ikioi's body. Even though it had disregarded it's weaponry, it was still an intimidating sight, and the fact that it had just caught the katana astounded Ikioi. He released the katana from his grip, it would be futile to attempt to rip it from the creature's grip.

He jumped back from the creature, regaining balance lost by the halted swing of his blade. He raised his pistol once more. "I have been through too much shit this evening to not know what's going on, and I don't give a damn if you think I can't comprehend it. Before I die I would at least like some answers. Should you choose to kill me anyway I'll tell you now, I am not one to beg for my life. I'll put enough bullets into your chest and head for it to take an hour before the sting goes away."

Ikioi lowered his pistol at this proposition. Taking the chance given to him and knowing the vampire was willing to listen, he continued. "Thanks for the offer, but this mortal thing isn't so bad. Plus, the idea of having teeth in my neck and a guy doing it isn't my idea of ideal happiness. Allow me to join you in whatever the heck it is you're doing and I will prove to you that mortals are not as weak as you may think. I am currently on the run from my own kind after they did not believe me about an encounter earlier this evening, and I need evidence to prove that I am not going mad."

Otto spat upon the ground, his face contorted with hatred. "You mortals lack everything... You are nothing more than food for the blessed kinds, such as I... You dare believe that you mortals and capable? HA! In this world, you mortals are weaklings... Beings to be ignored..."

Otto stopped for a second and gazed at his two awfully silent companions...

Jake had watched all of this attentively, hoping to gain insight into the mind of the creature called Otto. When Otto turned to him, he said in a chilly voice, "What you do to him is no concern of mine. He's human, and therefore inferior."

Baring his teeth, Otto glared at the human and said, "Why should I trust you? You've already placed seven bullets into my body... Tell me, why I should not drain you of your blood..."

"First off, the seven bullets were because of the malicious voice you used when you told me to come out. So either A: I fight and die with honor or B: I die wimpering like a coward. Being a vampire I assume you would respect A. Neither choice was much of an option. Secondly, those seven bullets barely made you flinch, so I don't see what you have to be so angry about. And as "insulent" as that sounds, it's the truth no matter how you look at it. Thirdly, you must have some respect for me, seeing as you offered to turn me into a vampire and join your kind. Such an offer honors me, but as I said, I would rather not. You may try to drain my blood, and no doubt you could, but if you're going to at least hand me my katana and allow me to fight to the death.

That said, I am asking you to allow me to join you in finding these creatures you seek that are responsible for this (Ikioi motioned to the pile of drained bodies) so I may not be hunted by vampires and humans."

Crossing his arms in contemplation, Otto said simply, "What do you have to offer, human?" Before Ikioi could respond, Otto continued, "NOTHING! We do not require any assistance from a mere mortal... Perhaps, I will let you join if you join us as one of our kind, but otherwise no.."

Phobos looked at the mortal with distain. How could one not want the power of being a vampire, an immortal? With every step he took he felt like a god. He had never felt better in all of his existance...

How could one not want power?

"Look," said Ikioi impatiently, "I have a life. A life where I must be able to walk freely among people without being considered a monster. I AM NOT AFTER THE POWER YOU BEINGS HUNGER! What I offer is the chance to be compassionate, to not be a heartless shell of a creature with no meaning or purpose! THERE IS MORE TO LIFE THAN DEATH AND POWER! Laugh all you want but admit it, I have more of a life than any of you will ever have...my short time here on earth is better spent than how you spend millennia, feasting and yearning for what you-cannot-have..."

Otto snorted in response when he heard Jake's little conceited speech. In a voice filled both with malice and what seemed to conciliation, Otto said, "You kill vampires? Jake smiled. "I used to kill vampires. Other creatures as well. I stopped hunting about seven hundred years ago. And I killed several vampires that were over a thousand years old. Six, I believe. As well as something like forty lesser vampires."

He turned to Ikoi. "Guanyans, even those spurned by their people, do not shake hands with humans. Your touch is unclean in the eyes of Jilam, our god."

Otto moved swiftly through the dark streets of New York City, both the crown jewel and the cesspool of the world. Shaking his head in disgust at both the city and at his companions, Otto kept his left hand upon his holster and upon the revolver within it.

Exiting the alley, Otto led his three unlikely companions to a small rundown diner still open. Taking a seat in the corner, Otto gestured for the others to sit.

Otto sighed as he looked at his unlikely companions. Once more, he inwardly questioned his sanity for working with these young fools, but quickly subdued this reaction and said, “Now, I will impart you the tale of my vendetta…”

Otto thus began his unlikely story:

“Vampires have existed since the beginning of time, ranging from the powerful Elders to the lowly and weak fledglings… Over the years a schism has slowly formed between the ranks of the most powerful of the vampires, between the three members of the Trinity of Elders… Nearly five millennium ago, in the heyday of Egypt, the clashing between the three Elder of the Trinity erupted into full-scale war…

The most powerful vampire of the Trinity of Elders, a dark, sinister vampire by the name of Dracul easily triumphed over his peers upon the Trinity. Taryon, one of other members of the Trinity was crucified and then fed to the wolves. The most kind-hearted of the Trinity, named Elias, quietly led his small group of followers away from Egypt, away from Memphis. Elias and his followers fled north into Europe, pursued by the dark vampires of Dracul…

In a pitched battle fought on Mount Olympus in what is now Greece, Elias and his followers were massacred, torn apart by the bloodthirsty vampires of Dracul. By then, the Trinity of Elders had been dissolved and Dracul became the Blood Lord…

However, a follower of Elias survived the massacre. He was an Elder by the name of Avant. Vowing vengeance upon Dracul and his followers, Avant became a hunter of the night… He lived for three centuries more, until the heyday of the Rome, when Avant finally fell to the assassins of Dracul…

But, Avant left a fledging to continue his work… I was that fledging…”

In the late fifteenth century with the “discovery” of the New World, Dracul created a group of powerful hunters to expand his power. They became known as the Dark Ones…

This group was created for the sole purpose of being Dracul’s executioners and hunters… For the past two millennia that have sought my blood… Now the time has come for me to seek theirs…”

Ikioi could hardly belive his ears. Living for millenia...what a world of hate this being must have seen... The tale was unusual, but after this evening Ikioi was growing accustomed to such events and his narrow horizon of the lifeforms on the planet broadened. A small grin grew across Ikioi's face, "A grudge huh? Alright, I'm in. Lets get rid of this scum, no one should be able to massacre the peaceful as you describe and spread such evil without some retribution. I need to get some new weaponry however, especially if your kind is as powerful as legends make them out to be. It'll be a challenge for a "mere mortal" such as myself but as I said, I'm in. Got any spare silver lying around?"

Jake's expression didn't change throughout Otto's story. Much of this history he already knew, although he had never known there was a direct link between Dracul and the Dark Ones.

Ikioi's childish behavior nearly caused Jake to grimace. He reached into his cloak and pulled out two silver knives. Reversing them, he offered the hilts to Ikioi. "I have an extra pistol as well, should you wish to carry it."

Otto watched impassively to the reactions of the others to his story. Grimacing slightly at the hunger that suddenly struck, Otto swore silently. Rummaging through the satchel at his side, Otto withdrew a syringe, filled with bloodred blood. Swiftly, Otto pierced his vein and injected himself with the blood. Sighing, Otto raised his head back as the blood fueled his body...

Ikioi graciously took the knives from Jake, and caught a glimpse of Otto injecting blood into his veins. Repressing the urge to shiver and gawk, Ikioi examined the fine sliver blades. He politely rejected the pistol, as much as firepower would come in handy Ikioi had an attatchment to his own gun, and stuck to his auto-pistol. He knew a man he could trust, could get silver bullets from him. Until then the knives would do fine, his aikido and kendo training would serve him well with the art of the blade and hands.

"The followers of Elias do not feed upon humans unless we absolutely feel it is necessary…" replied Otto in a relaxed tone. "We have learned that feeding upon humans brings unnecessary attention upon our kind. Therefore we forsook this food source and turned instead to other sources. For a time, we feasted upon the blood of cows... Now we've turned to other sources, such as blood-plasma donations and synthetic blood..."

Ikioi swung open the door and began walking back to the warehouse, realizing that he had left his car there. He silently cussed to himself. The night was falling away, giving the hours to daylight. It was much more comfortable knowing that his senses could be fully aware now that light had come. Reaching his car he got in and started up the engine, pulling away from the warehouse and heading towards his contact's home. He called up first, announcing his arrival and order. After being asked what he needed silver bullets for, he dismissed the question. No human needed to know that vampires acutally existed. Panic would ensue. As the bullets were created, Ikioi waited in the living room and went over the events of the night and what more he would go through before this was over.
