"Real-time distributed computing announced for CABAL expansion"
CAIRO - The ministry of Information announced in a press conference earlier today that CABAL will be enhanced using distributed computing instead of adding regular computer parts to C.A.B.A.L., the AI in charge of nearly all communication networks within Brotherhood territory. A special version of a distributed computing client will be compulsory on all private computers save those with a government dispensation. This will allow the 800-petaflop AI to have easy access to additional resources without the need of expanding the AI with new parts. In case of emergencies that could require even more processor cycles, other tasks of private computers will be given secondary processor priority over CABAL's tasks necessary for national digital security.
"Near-real time distributed computing is made possible due to high-speed fiberoptic communication lines that have been laid throughout most of the Brotherhood's territory", a spokesman from the Ministry of Information said, "allowing more than 80% of the Brotherhood to be able to communicate with Cairo (location of CABAL's main core) with a latency less than twenty milliseconds. When we realized the huge amount of unused processor cycles, the decision was simple."
The press release also spoke of "enhanced security of private computers" by allowing CABAL to have limited control over the machines, effectively eliminating threats of viruses, trojan horses or foreign instigators that cost the Brotherhood billions of credits annually and could be used for information warfare purposes.
Per May 1st, all citizens without government dispensation must have the CABAL-D client running on their computers or pay a fine of C500,- per day per computer not running the client. The client will be sent to all citizens on a BVD-ROM disc or can be downloaded from http://www.cabald.nod . Detailed information about the project can be found on http://min.info.nod/projects/cabald .
