We're going to apologize to our fans for our first game of the season. Although we didn't lose, we didn't win. Nor did we score.

WILLIAMS SUFFERS FROM FOOD POISONING AT HANDS OF LE SUPPORTER AS WARRIORS LOSE

For the second time in recent memory, an opposing team's supporter caused a Warrior player to suffer from food poisoning as a Liverpool England fan slipped an unknown substance into goalie Mark Williams' breakfast causing him to have severe cramps. The TEN police force quickly aprehended the villain and brought him in for questioning. He quickly confessed to the crime stating that he was concerned that Williams would lead his team to the upset and he wanted to make sure that that didn't occur. As a result, Carl Lane took on his first apperance in net for the national team since his stint in net in Harmony Cup III (OOC-for those of you who don't remember that was after the assasin shot at my team bus after my final qualifying match in WC XI). It wasn't pretty, as LE poored three goals in in the first 9 minutes of the match before Lane settled in and held them the rest of the way. However, the Warriors couldn't mount any semblence of a scoring threat and the score stood at 0-3. Williams should be fine in time for the Warriors' 2nd match against The Gulf States.

OOC- I hope you're okay with this LE. This is sort of a play off of what Melmond did to me in HC V. I say that even though, in official P2G records, HC V is not in the books because of supected corruption in the generation of the scores.

Weegies Eauz-ing Confidence In Eagle's Cup Draw.

Eauz - 1
The Weegies - 1

The Eagle's Cup started out well for the Weegies with a draw against Eauz, previous Eagle's Cup winners, again showing that underestimating the 53rd-ranked side can be a big mistake, as One Red Dot and Timway found out to their cost during the qualifiers.

It was a tight game, however, with both sides at the start sizing each other up, making small runs, and generally fighting for control of the midfield. Eauz started making headway, though, and Britton had to come into play, making a couple of well-timed stops to prevent an early Eauz lead.

But Eauz pushed hard, and just before the first half, Johnstone slipped whilst trying to tackle an Eauz striker, who dodged past, ran into the box and was left with a simple finish to put it past Britton and give Eauz the advantage.

But Eauz rested on their advantage after the second half, and the Weegie side grew more confident and more agressive as the Eauz side hung back and defended their lead. A lead which ended when in the 74th minute, Colin Ferguson stole the ball fom the Eauz in midfield, delivered it to Piccolo, who steamed up the left wing and curled a cross over to Dunn, who hammered it down past the goalkeeper and into the net.

Eauz woke up after that, and the Weegie side's attacks were negated by excellent defending, but Eauz could not retain the lead, and the points were shared between the team, giving the Weegies a good start to the Cup.

Team: Britton, McManus, Bryant, Fredriksson, Johnstone (Johansson 65), Piccolo, Ferguson, Murray, Ogilvie (Andrews 77), Hardie, Dunn.

The match between the Progressans and Vilita ended in an unexpected draw. Neither the Progressans nor the Villains managed to hit the goal. It is a bit strange, because goalie Lileng was pretty high when playing. Coach Lileng told the players to limit the drug usage before the games, but since the Nestian drug laws are nearly as lax as the progressan (the right to use whatever drug you want is a constitutional right in Progressive Hash) the players all were on their favorite drugs. The quality of the match didn't suffer much from it. ok, normally players don't run off the pitch saying that a giant blue penguin runs after him, but that happened only once and Lulkek should be substituted anyway so it didn't really matter. It is only a rumor that the Progressans and the Villains 420ed after the harmonic 0-0 draw together.

Crusaders slay old rivals Oglethorpia

Jeruselem had it's revenge on old World Cup rivals Oglethorpia with a resounding 3-1 win. Captain Harry Kewell was back from injury incurred during WC XIII and made the difference to an otherwise solid team who just failed to qualify for WC XIII.

Oglethorpia scored first after the keeper spilled the ball from a long range shot for <Player> to pounce and ram home the first goal. For the rest of the 1st half, Jeruselem defended against Oglethorpia assaults on goal.

There was a turnaround the 2nd half with Jeruselem midfielders hassling the opposition goal with long range shots. Finally one made it through when the keeper rushed out too far and was chipped for Becks to score. Kewell took a corner for Goldstein to head home the second goal past the embarrased Ogle keeper. The game was sealed in injury time with Abdulla counter-attacking and beating off three defenders to score.

WARRIORS TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS

The Warriors took care of business today against The Gulf States by shuting them out 1-0. Thomas Larson and his wife hooked up again for the lone goal in the 34th minute. The next match will be very important against Burning Cross, who is listed at the home side. With a win in the next match, the Warriors would be in very good position to qualify.

Starting off slow

In their first two matches to defend the Eagle Cup, Les Bleus have not shown that they are the defending champions, ending two matches with two ties. The first match against The Weggies, ended in a 1 - 1 tie, and just like the first match, Les Bleus played against Vilita and tied the match.

In the first half, Les Bleus came out in control of the ball, but there was no real strong attack in the first 30 minutes of play. Les Bleus played with barly any heart at all. This could be a result from their great play in the World Cup 13 matches. As for Vilita, their team tried to get past Les Bleus defence, only resulting in a ball passing just over the top of the goal.

The second half brought about a stronger attack by Vilita, coming out with force against the Eauz defence. If it was not for a sprawlling Yeuseuv, a free kick would have ended up in for a goal for Vilita. This was a close call for a heartless Eauz team. At the other end, Les Bleus brought on their own attacks, only resulting in nothing at all. A long distance shot went just wide of the left corner of the net. After that, the match ended in a quiet few minutes.

Les Bleus have not been playing like the team everyone expected it to. It has though, kept 2 points, and is not defeated yet, though, everyone though, they would just take over this group with ease. If Les Bleus are not careful, they could end up 3rd place, and not qualifying. Currently though, it is early, and Les Bleus are still in the match. If they are to win the next 4 matches, they would definetly qualify for the next round

Becks saves Jeruselem despite scandalous rumours

Jeruselem scored a thrilling 1-0 win over allied Christian state Nanakaland. The first half could only be described as boring as both sides played more or less defensively. Urgency crept into the 2nd half with marauding attacks from both sides failing to make progress but speeding up the game. David Becks score the goal of tournament with a very ambitious shot from halfway down the pitch to catch the Nanakaland keeper off guard. It bounced over him and into the back of net.

Becks had hide from keen members of the press who wanted to ask about his sex life after some allegations of dating kinky models after team functions. Harry Kewell defended his teammate "We won the game for us and what he does and who he sees it not our business. As far as I'm concerned his marriage is not under stress and these scandals only distract from our mission here."

Back on track

In their third match of group B play, Les Bleus finally put themselves on the board, with a strong victory against a weak Progressive Hash team. This match finished off the first half of 6 matches in this group, and Les Bleus hope to use this as a spring board to win the next 3 matches.

In the first half, Les Bleus found themselves playing in front of no more than 50 people, as this match was not expected to be any surprises. With no excitement coming from the crowd, Les Bleus could play the match, as if they were practicing. The match was played very slowly, and Les Bleus acted as if they had no heart in the match, seeming to try and insult the Progressive Hash team. Les Bleus would get hold of the Ball, and just kick it to the other end, not really pursuing it. At the 44th minute, just before the match finished, Les Bleus put on a little attack, with barley any pressure, putting the ball high over the keeper’s head, and scored a goal. Les Bleus didn’t even celebrate, just a little congrats to everyone.
In the second half, Les Bleus did not change the way they played, as they used this as a practice match. No strong attacks came from the Hash, only a few corner kicks. Les Bleus though were looking for insurance, before the match ended, and they found it during the 54th minute of play on a corner kick header combo. Other than that the match was a bore, and Les Bleus won 2 – 0. With the win, Les Bleus pull into first tied with The Weegies who finished with a 0 – 0 tie against Vilita.

This finished off the first half of play between this group of teams, and Les Bleus had hoped to be at top with 9 points. Instead, they sit tied with 5 points for first. If Les Bleus are capable of winning the next 3 matches, they will finish with 14 points. The only real problem for Les Bleus is The Weegies, and if the team gets lazy, and does not play well.

WARRIORS WIN BATTLE OF RELIGIOUS NATIONS

The Warriors defeated Burning Cross 1-0 behind a goal from Kelly Carter Larson in the 58th minute. Mark Williams recorded his second consecutive clean sheet after coming back from food poisoning. The win all but guarantees that the Warriors will advance, as all they should have to do is win one more match to qualify, even though they would prefer to win at least two if not all three matches. Their next match will be the most difficult of the three, as they play against Liverpool England.

Crusaders escape from Brucey boys!

Jeruselem escaped with 1-0 win over Brucey Bonus to head their group undefeated. Resting all their best players, the Jeruselem "reserve" team with some ex-U21 players in their first game scraped the win. An early goal by Shaza Jacobs put the Crusaders ahead. BB tried to fight back for the rest of the game, but poor finishing and poor support play by BB ensured the Crusaders kept their 3 points.

Captain Mimmi Goldstein spoke to the "I was more worried about the Brucey Bonus players being Gay then losing the game. I just hope they are not all named Bruce."

WARRIORS FALL FLAT ON THEIR FACES AGAINST LIVERPOOL

The Warriors didn't seem to show up to play for their match against Liverpool England today, losing 1-2. The Warriors' goal was scored by William Harper on a pass from Brian Johnson in the 16th minute for a 1-0 lead, but the handed it over in the last 20 minutes. The two goals by LE were the first two that goalie Mark Williams has allowed in the tournament in three starts in net. The Warriors next match will be against the only team that has a chance to catch them, The Gulf States. A win would put the Warriors into the quarterfinals against the winner of Group A.

Coach Likung was angry, really angry: The Progressans shot no single goal in the 4 matches, they played in. The number of goals conceded was far too high for him to count on one hand, but that is also due to the fact, that he had this unfortunate accident with a chainsaw. After the match against Vilita (which ended 0-1), he found clear words.

Likung (the coach): Can you do something like winning? Ever thought about that? You play so bad, that I have the impression you all were always chosen last when soccer was played in school. You could all play in the first Abysmali league and become the worst players!

Likung (the forward): So what? sometimes you lose, sometimes others win!

Likung (the coach): I hate your apathy. Apathy will be the downfall of mankind.

Shada (the midfielder): And who cares?

Likung (the coach): You'll care if you don't get your weed.

Shada: I don't smoke weed, I just don't care.

Likung (the coach): Anyways, I'll replace the entire defense. sunek, Rirek, Lilkek and Siurek, you will not start anymore. Ninek, Idiek, Kuruvek, Nivek, your chance. Make you club Sritlek proud.

Ninek (the defender): Sritlek faces insolvency, making thm proud won't help.

Likung (the coach): Gah! Simply play better than this 4 blokes I just replaced!

WARRIORS FAIL TO PENETRATE GULF

The Warriors were unable to penetrate the The Gulf States net today. Fortunately, Warriors goalie Mark Williams was up to the task recording his 3rd clean sheet in 4 matches as they match finished in a 0-0 draw. All the Warriors should need to do is draw against Burning Cross to qualify for the first time in international play. They will likely play either The Weegies or Eauz in the quarterfinals.

WARRIORS GO MARCHING ON...BARELY

The Warriors looked like they were going to have to pray for a loss by The Gulf States as they were struggling to score for the first 88 minutes of their match today against Burning Cross. However, Thomas Larson changed that in the 89th minute, as he took a pass from his wife and slipped the ball neatly past the BC keeper and into the net to send the Warriors into the quarterfinals, where they will face The Weegies, the winners of Group A. Mark Williams recorded a remarkable 4th clean sheet in 5 matches.

Kingsford moves in it's own style past EH neighbors into finals

Barcoenfuego, the recent champions of the LEAF (Emerald Heights Superleague) Cup, have more players on the Kingsford National than any other team combined. They also have their own style. They pack stadiums with their close but dominant playing style, progressing twice in the Leaf Cup on PKs, once using 16 kicks to progress past Oglethorpian club Steerford United.

That style trangresses to international play, but along with it, the winningness, it seems. Kingsford collectively has made it farther in three international tournaments (winning the LEAF Cup, OK Cup, and U21 II, and making the Eagles Cup final) than it has ever in any other event, bar Kingsford Premier League. The old school style of players like Saturn Calcéte, Celedonio "El Murcielago" Santander, Pacé Araño, George Quintana, and Victor Cruzazul (all Barcoenfuego and National players) shines brilliantly through. In the recent win over Eauz, Kingsford won 6-5 on penalty kicks. The win over Oglethorpia was also a very close game.

"I don't think it means we can't control the game," remarked Santander, nicknamed 'The Bat' in Spanish, "I just think it's our style, our way of playing. Plus, it brings more crowds. Would you rather see a blowout or a nailbiter? Which is more fun to watch, no?"

Santander, 31, was named co-captain of the National, sharing the duties of forward Carl Shetfield, who plays for Kingsford Club Trotting Pinwheel.

Marie Law (ML): I’m Marie Law coming to you live from The Eagle’s Nest for this quarterfinal match in The Eagle’s Cup between the Warriors and The Weegies. Joining me in the booth is our normal studio host, Jennifer Johnson.

Jennifer Johnson (JJ): Thank you, Marie. That’s right folks, the Warriors have actuality made it to the single-elimination portion of an international tournament. Ever since they wrapped up a birth in today’s match, fans have been streaming to TEN trying to get a hold of tickets to today’s match. Here’s what some of them had to say…

Random Fan #1: I can’t wait for the Warriors to beat The Weegies and advance to the semifinals!

Random Fan #2: It’s great that we’ve made it this far. However, The Weegies aren’t exactly a push over, they’re what of the best teams in the world, and know what they’re doing in this type of situation. That could be their downfall however, as we should come out relaxed and ready to play. It should be a great match.

Random Fan #3: WARRIORS SOCCER RULES!!!!!

JJ: As you can see, the fans are very excited about today’s match. What do you expect will happen, Marie?

ML: It will certainly be a well-contested match. Both sides want the respect that comes with a victory in a major international tournament, and a victory in The Eagle’s Cup would provide them with that.

JJ: Let’s go to commercial break, so we can be back in time for the opening kick-off.

(commercial break)

JJ: We’re back everybody! The teams are making their way onto the pitch for the opening kick-off, so I’ll turn it over to Marie to do the play-by-play.

ML: Thank you, Jennifer. This should certainly be a great match. The Weegies will kick-off to start the match.

(whistle blows)

ML: The Weegies put the ball in play, and we are under way in this Eagle’s Cup quarterfinal match between the Warriors and The Weegies.

(6th minute)

ML: The Weegies have the first good scoring chance of the match…the ball is played into the box…here’s a redirection…GREAT SAVE by Mark Williams!!! He anticipated the redirection and was right on top of it…and the ball is cleared by Kevin Anderson…TW had a great chance there, but Williams was up to the task.

JJ: That was a great play made by Mark Williams, Marie. An early goal may have been the end of the Warriors’ tournament, but instead they are building momentum.

(18th minute)

ML: Here’s another good chance for TW…the header is easily hauled in by Williams…and he punts the ball upfield and out of harm’s way.

JJ: The Warriors need to find a way to kick start their offense, because they aren’t putting any pressure on the TW defense. Williams probably won’t be able to turn aside 30 shots like he’s on pace to at the moment.

ML: I wouldn’t say that it’s that many, but it certainly looks like he’s going to have to make a lot of saves to keep the Warriors in it today.

(23rd minute)

ML: Here’s the Warriors first chance of the match…Brian Johnson sends the ball to a wide open William Harper…Harper takes a shot…and it rockets into the 10th row of the stands.

JJ: I hope that nobody got hurt up in the stands after that misguided laser beam sailed well into the stands. If that’s going to be the Warriors’ luck all match, this is going to be a long match.

(27th minute)

ML: TW has really established some pressure here. Their defensemen have even come up to help with the attack…here’s a shot…it goes right into Williams’ hands…he quickly punts it upfield…directly to a wide open William Harper behind the defense. Was he offsides? NO, the linesman’s flag has stayed down…Harper is on a breakaway…only the keeper to beat…he shoots…GGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!! William Harper has given the Warriors a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 27th minute!

JJ: The goalie didn’t stand a chance on that one, Marie. I don’t know that any goalie could have made that save though, so you have to applaud his effort.

(45th minute-whistle blows)

JJ: We’ve reached halftime of the Eagle’s Cup quarterfinal match between the Warriors and The Weegies, with the Warriors holding a surprising 1-0 lead. Marie, what do you think about what we’ve seen so far?

ML: I’m just as surprised as anybody that the Warriors are leading, but don’t count out The Weegies just yet. After all, they did outshoot the Warriors 12-3 in the first half. However, Mark Williams has been amazing in net. One thing that has to be concerning though to the Warriors faithful is that the normally potent Warriors offense hasn’t done anything yet, and The Weegies have done an excellent job in shutting down Thomas and Kelly in the first half.

JJ: You’re completely right, Marie. The Warriors leading scorers haven’t done anything in the first half, as a matter of fact I don’t know that we’ve had to mention them until now. Let’s go to commercial now, so we can be back in time for the second half kick-off.

(commercial break)

JJ: We’re back just in time for the second half kick-off. Can the Warriors hold on and pull off the major upset? We’ll soon find out.

ML: That’s right, Jennifer. The Warriors are leading 1-0, despite being badly outplayed in the first half.

(whistle blows)

ML: Thomas Larson passes the ball to his wife, Kelly and the second half is underway…here’s a pass to Joseph King slipping up the right side…but it’s too far in front of him and goes out-of-bounds…

(58th minute)

ML: Here’s another chance for TW…the ball is launched from the top of the box…and Mark Williams tips it over the crossbar for a corner for TW. That was an incredible save by Williams.

JJ: That’s right, Marie. The Weegian shooters have to be getting frustrated that they have been unable to put the ball in the net yet, as Williams always seems to end up where their shots are.

(59th minute)

ML: The corner by TW is away…it goes directly to Noah Bell, who heads it clear. The Warriors defense bends, but refuses to break so far…

(70th minute)

ML: Here’s a penalty awarded to The Weegies…the Warriors have their wall set up…the shot is away…Williams is fooled…and the shot is…OFF THE POST!!! Maria Campbell gathers in the loose ball and clears it to safety…what a break the Warriors caught that time!

JJ: It seems like the Warriors are getting divine help in this match. Every time that the Weegian shooters have fooled Williams, their shots have missed the mark. It seems to be shaping up for the Warriors to put it away on another counter-attack goal.

(78th minute)

ML: The Warriors might not need the counter-attack goal that Jennifer suggested earlier, as they have established the most consistent pressure they’ve had all match right now…Thomas Larson with the ball on the right edge of the box…he’s trying to coax the defenseman to come out…here he comes…Thomas lifts the ball over the charging defenseman’s head towards his wife, Kelly, who’s in a crowd with a couple of defenders in front…they go up for the ball…it’s redirected…past the keeper…and into the net…GGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!! Kelly Carter Larson has put the Warriors up 2-0 with a goal in the 78th minute!

JJ: We’ve seen Thomas and Kelly pull that move so many times, I’m surprised that the defender fell for it.

ML: Remember though, Pablitopia tried that strategy, Jennifer, and Thomas lit them up for a hat trick in the first half.

JJ: That’s probably the nail in the coffin for The Weegies, especially with the way that Mark Williams has been playing today.

ML: Probably, but don’t count your chickens before they’ve hatched.

JJ: What are chickens?

(90th minute-whistle blows)

ML: THAT’S IT!!! IT’S ALL OVER!!! The Warriors have upset The Weegies 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the Eagle’s Cup. They advance to the semifinals to play Jerusalem, who hasn’t lost a match yet in the tournament. It’s bound to be a dandy of a match. For my partner, Jennifer Johnson, I’m Marie Law saying good bye everybody and we’ll be back for the semifinals.

Praying2God wins religious semi-final against Jeruselem

Some atheist once said watching two religious teams was like watching paint dry. The win for Praying2God against Jeruselem 4-2 blew that stupid quote out of the water. In the fast paced game, both teams played hard but fair with God on their side. Unfortunately God did not favour Jeruselem today.

Jeruselem had early chanced to score, but it was P2G who scored first in the 15 minute. On a roll, the P2G team looked unstoppable scoring in the 40th and 45th minutes to lead 3-0 at half-time. Jeruselem did not lie down and surrender with counter attacks to harass the P2G goal. The Crusaders finally scored in the 64th and 75th minute to revive their hopes of winning. P2G put home the last goal of the game to book their finals spot to deny Jeruselem who fell at the semis the last time.

Captain David Becks spoke to the press "Praying2God deserved their win and we hope they win the final too. God bless them and us for 3rd spot". An atheist ran onto the field and streaked after the game, but was struck by lightning. The authorities had no idea what happened or why.
