Duncan (NNS) 17 April 2004 - Police today were baffled by an overnight triple murder in Nainamo's second city. The victims' names have not yet been released, but they are understood to be immigrant workers in the docking industry. There is shock on the streets, not only of Duncan, but of the entire country - since independence, there had, to now, been no multiple murders in Nainamo.

Police have warned in recent weeks that organised crime could be trying to gain a foothold in the country, but when questioned about this in regards to the events overnight, Police Commissioner Steve Irwin said 'I will not comment on an ongoing investigation.'

Speaking off the record, another senior officer stated that there were strong suspicions of culprits but little evidence so far in the case, although the officer also said that the case was at a very early stage.

Victoria (NNW) 18 April 2004 - In sports results this weekend, the Nainamo Hockey Federation playoffs reached their semi finals. The Fort Mansell Knights, after a stunning come from behind series win against the Duncan Dragons, will play the Amherst Angels in the northern conference finals, while in the South, the reigning champs the Boarnem Axemen will take on the Victoria Monarchs. The first games of each series will start on Monday.

In rugby, the major week 2 results in the national league saw Victoria beaten in an upset by Port Stanley, 23-16, while Boarnem and Amherst slugged out a 13 all draw, in a match marred by a 57th minute brawl that saw three players red carded.

The soccer schedule winds up next week with the Victoria Butterflies playing rank outsiders and non league team the Alberni Alouettes in the NFA Cup final. Victoria, which won the Premiership comfortably this year, are almost unbackable at the betting shops. Alberni's only brush with the big time was in 1912, when they were a foundation team of the Colonial Soccer Conference.

Finally, in rowing, Paul Worthing qualified for the upcoming Olympics in the individual K2 class at a World Cup match in Munich. This brings to fifteen the team that Nainamo will be sending to Athens, with the best chance of a medal in cycling, with Rachel Dunst the number two in the world in the 5000m individual pursuit. The team is expected to be added to over the next couple of weeks, as the Nainamo Olympic Committee oversees the swimming, athletics and weightlifting trials.

Victoria (NNW) 21 April 2004 - Governor General Sir Victor Forsberg today christened HMNS Haida, the first completed Konigsberg-class frigate, as Nainamo took control of it's own naval protection for the first time. To date, as part of the Independence Charter, the Colonial Navy was responsible for Nainaman waters.

As the maple leaf ensign whipped in the moderate winds, Sir Forsberg stated that it was a wonderful day for Nainamo, in both self responsibility and also the ability to assist the Colonial Navy when needed. Colonial CINCPACFLT Admiral Roger Tattersfield, also attending the ceremonies, handed Sir Forsberg the bell from HMS Williamsburg, as a gift to the Nainamo people - the Williamsburg was sunk in 1835 outside Alberni Harbour as part of the War of 1834.

The Haida is the first of four frigates and two Kharkov-class guided missile cruisers to be commissioned. It is part of Nainamo's increased defense spend, which will also see the Army's 1st Guards and 3rd Pacific Regiments outfitted with new Powell APCs, and an expected decision to be made shortly to order new combat aircraft for the Air Force.
