A brief history of Chymeria.

Chymeria is a relatively young nation, having been founded only 220 years ago, in the year 1784. It was originally founded as a Monarchy, with a very heavy religious bent, hence the full name of "The Holy Empire of Chymeria". The monarchy came to a sudden end in 1998, with the demise of King Ozyius XII, and the elevation of Lord Daniel Kunou (the Royal Advisor) to the status of "Interim President" until free elections could be established, which finally happened in the year 2000. To absolutely no one's surprise, he was elected full President at that time, and has since retained an 85% approval rating, along with his title of "Lord". Most people seem to have no problem with a president that is referred to as "Lord Kunou" rather than "President Kunou", but this is usually chalked up to long-seated familiarity with the previous monarchy. The country also retained its full name of "The Holy Empire of Chymeria", as it was deemed too costly to change all of the signs and stationary in the country. This causes a bit of confusion in some minds, but with Chymeria that's par for the course.

Although Chymeria's police and military are both very well-funded, both are also rather small. The police force is more than adequate for maintaining the peace and tranquility that the citizens of Chymeria have come to expect, though. The exact totals of citizens serving in the military are classified, of course, but an estimate of two million would seem correct, for a total of both the essential infrastructure of the varied corps and the fighting men and women themselves. It is unknown at this time whether Chymeria possesses nuclear capability, but it is highly doubtful. The current opinion amongst the citizens is that it would be far too messy to clean up afterwards. Modern conventional weaponry, much of it purchased from the Republic of Ingenia, is used to arm the proud fighting forces.

It is hard to say where Chymeria will be going in the future, as its current administration shows no tendency towards warmongering, instead adopting a more defensive stance. (The country's remote location in the South Pacific also gives it a defensive advantage, due to the fact that it would be far too much trouble to invade it.) Progressive social and economic initiatives have been implemented by Lord Kunou, with great success, and with any luck the next generation will emerge from the country's schools and bolster the slightly-sagging economy, still recovering from the sudden switch to democracy. Assuming Lord Kunou remains in power after the next election, the future could be very bright indeed.

[OOC: I just felt like putting a little background info up on my country. Hope this was the right forum to put it in.]
