IDI meeting called.

Xanthal
12-04-2004, 03:16
The Socialist Republic of Xanthal is calling a meeting of all IDI member nations to “assess the state of the alliance and plan for future improvement.”
The meeting has no doubt been called as a result of the alliance’s recent blow from the Kechan/Xanthalian conflict. The Socialist Republic’s IDI liaison was asked by an XNN reporter earlier today if she would recommend the disbanding of the International Defense Initiative, founded over half a millenia ago. “Only if it seems necessary,” she responded. “I’ll be recommending an updated charter and a re-signing by all members to reaffirm the IDI’s purpose now that its founder has, for all intents and purposes, been expelled. I also plan to introduce several revisions to the original charter. Depending on the response of the other members, I may or may not choose to recommend an entirely new alliance to replace the IDI.”
The meeting will be called to order in a conference hall of the Xanthalian Ministry of International Affairs headquarters in downtown New Krytan in one week, provided that all goes according to plan. The Xanthalian government refused to approve a meeting in IDI headquarters in Kecha, as the relations between the two nations have not been reestablished since Kecha’s attack on Xanthalian vessels took place.

OOC-I vote to allow Kecha to make an appearance.

The line of vehicles synonomous with Pabli arrived at the gates at the Xanthalian Ministry of International Affairs headquarters. Pabli had his Texan hat on and had his fingers rolling against a revolver, waiting for someone to let him in.

OOC: I intend to. Kecha should be here. I'm just letting her know that she's not going to be welcome by the Xanthalians.

IC: The front door to the massive, Roman-style building is open, and there are signs pointing IDI representatives to the conference room.

The conference room is much larger than it needs to be for this particular purpose, and only a small portion of its center is being used. A circle of chairs, enough to seat all the IDI members' representatives, are behind small tables that bear nation name tags, a laptop each, a syllabus, a pitcher and glass of water, and a mint. Sitting in the desk furthest from the door is the Xanthalian IDI liason, waiting for the others to arrive. The old Human doubts vaguely that everyone will be coming, considering the general state of IDI affairs and his own nation's stance in them.

The Xanthalian representative greets the Grand Inquisitor and bids him to sit down. "I hope that we'll have more arrivals shortly. I'm not entirely sure how many of our colleagues will decide to attend though."

OOC: I'm not going to trouble myself with RPing travel, as it would be a royal pain in everyone's arses.

IC: Ambassador/Major Claude Starring had been selected as Acting IDI Representative for her nation this time around, and was now in Xanthal. Though she was doing her civilian job, but she had been instructed to wear her National Guard Dress Uniform for the occasion. She approached the appointed building. Her Grey eyes were hidden behind tinted glasses, and were busy taking in all there was to see.

The Kechan goes unimpeded, but the uniform recieves several very dirty looks from passing citizens. One old woman even spits at its wearer's boots as she passes. The opinion of the general Xanthalian public seems to be clear enough.

IC: Major Starring continued on her way, just dodging the old woman's spit by way of a slight joly in her step. She'd had to walk through somewhat hostile places before, and was used to such behavior. She finally arrived at her destination.

She is stopped just outside the door to the conference room by a pair of guards. "Kechan," one of them says. "You've got a lot of guts walking into a Xanthalian government building after what your people did to us. The Socialist Republic no longer acknowledges you as a member of the IDI. If you want to be here, you'll have to speak with the Minister himself."

Princess Lina dressed in traditional Teritoran armor walked up and spoke to the guards at the door detaining the Kechan ambassador an problem. "What is going on here?"

The guard gives the Major a hard look, then points down the hall. "That way. Vryce, escort her." The other guard, a tough-looking Saurian, motions the Kechan forward. The first guard turns his attention to the Princess. "A misunderstanding. The Minister will clear it up, I'm sure. Please, enter. The conference will begin shortly."

IC: As she followed the guard, the Major's mind was racing:

'They're trying to keep me out of the meeting, so they can stack things against the Empire. Two can play THAT sort of game'

The Major is led to the office of the minister, a female Xanthalian who greets her after a surprised pause. "I'm sorry, I wasn't expecting to see a Kechan. What can I do for you?"

IC: 'Shove your 'We no longer recognize Kecha as an IDI nation' up your pretty little @$$' Major Starring thought, but she didn't say that, and her face was betraying nothing to the Xanthalian either "I have come to represent my nation in this IDI meeting. I am told Xanthal does not recognize Kecha's status as an IDI nation. That is fine, but Xanthal does not rule the IDI, and I believe the other nations should be asked if we should be allowed to attend or not"

The Minister holds up her hands. "Woah, woah... One step at a time. Who said you couldn't attend the meeting?"

17-04-2004, 01:57
Princess Lina stared coldly into the guards eyes, pulling all her years of command and training around her and spoke harshly with slight mence in her voice. "Funny it seemed like you two were trying to keep an IDI delgate from attending this confrence. I do hope that I am mistaken."
Xanthal
17-04-2004, 02:00
The guard, unintimidated, smiles. "Surely not."

OOC: This is going to be even better than I thought! I never counted on Kecha actually being smart/dumb enough to send their own representative! Kecha, by the way... Would you get back to the threads you've let die in your absence? I'm starting to consider making an enemy of you just because at least that way when you disappear I can claim automatic victory.
Teritora
17-04-2004, 02:15
Princess Lina smiled coldly again sizing up both guards. "Young man, do not get fresh with me, I may be old but I am still more than good enough to deal with both of you. You don't wan't to get me mad much less irratated. You will apologize to the Kechan and I am going to have words your superors and the minster about this."
Xanthal
17-04-2004, 03:08
OOC: Only one guard there, the other left with the Kechan.

IC: "I will not apologize to her. I was ordered to let only IDI delegates into this meeting. I was also told quite clearly by Triumvir Yuri that Kecha is not a member of the IDI. Talk to whoever you want, you'll get the same response."
Kecha
17-04-2004, 03:17
OOC: I'll try, but I've little time.

IC: Starring looked at the Minister "Only Delegates from nations of the IDI are allowed to attend IDI meetings barring special conditions, true? I was told Xanthal no longer recognizes our IDI status. What does that say to you? How are we to repair the damage that has been done here if I can't even enter the conference?" Starring paused in thought "This could be seen as an attempt by Xanthal to keep crucial evidence efrom being presented, or to stack things in their favor so they can controll the IDI. Your nation's reputation would suffer, even if that was not the truth of the matter, and I know it's not"
Teritora
17-04-2004, 03:27
Princess Lina stared coldly and raised her voice slowly. " It requires an formal vote of the IDI Nations to remove an member which has not happened yet. So Kecha is still an member until that happens. I find your behavial unbarely rude, barbaric, uncivalized and unfit for an guard at an dipomatic affair." She was sorely tempted to do something unpleasent to the guard before her and it was showing in her manners. the always nearby RSC studied and located all the securities and escape routes from there as well as the best way to deal with guards if it turned nasty.

Kecha: The Minister looks worried. "We don't recognize you?" She turns to her computer and works at it for about twenty seconds. Then her face hardens and she swears. "Yuri, you bastard!" She stands. "The Triumvirate decided on it with a 2/1 vote. The Council never saw this. I'm sorry, but I can't help you. Not immediately anyway. I'll call a Council meeting over this, but it won't convene until after the meeting's over." She pauses and retuns to work on her console. "However... There may be a way." She prints a document, signs it, then slides it into a yellow envelope, which she seals. She then prints another document and signs that as well, handing it and the envelope to the Major. "Go to the central government building at the center of the plaza and show the paper to anyone at the front desk. Hurry, I'll do my part from here. With luck, we can get you in there before its over."
Kecha
17-04-2004, 03:30
IC: Major Starring took the paper without a word, and snapped off a Kechan salute. She walked off at a brisk pace, and proceeded to the indicated building.

Teritora: The guard suppresses a smile. This was serious business, but this woman was aggressive almost to the point of comedy. He continues, in a neutral tone. "What you think really makes no difference to me. I was assigned to do this job and I will do it as I have been instructed."

Teritora: The guard suppresses a smile. This was serious business, but this woman was aggressive almost to the point of comedy. He continues, in a neutral tone. "What you think really makes no difference to me. I was assigned to do this job and I will do it as I have been instructed."

OOC:He doesn't know much about Teritorans does he. Shes just annoyed and not being very agressive at all. He'll have an problem if he iratates her or worse gets her mad.

IC:Princess Lina sighed, this guard was beganing to irrate her. "Your council and your orders can go to hell."

OOC:By the way I do plan on doing something to the guard unplesant but something that will not get her in trouble if you don't reconize diplomatic imunaty what would you sujust?
Xanthal
17-04-2004, 03:58
OOC: As Scolopendra so recently learned, the Xanthalian legal system has no provisions for diplomatic immunity. If your princess does anything illegal, she will be tried in Xanthalian court. I suggest not doing anything illegal, especially not in a government building. Although it would bring me joy to see a Teritoran royal in Xanthalian court... By the way, what does the Council have to do with this?

IC: The guard doesn't know quite how to respond to that, so he remains silent.
Teritora
17-04-2004, 04:11
OOC:Would "accidently" hitting him with the door hard when shes opening it be illegal? Nothing, she was just annoyed. As for geting her to court, your assuming you could hold her long enough to do so and are willing to try to get her back when the Teritorans resue her.
Xanthal
17-04-2004, 04:13
Teritora: OOC: Careful now, I don't want to have to make Teritora an enemy of the state too... It wouldn't be illegal, but you can't do it since the door opens inward.
Teritora
17-04-2004, 04:24
OOC:Darn, not that being an enemy of the state would be much of an threat to Teritora. Xanthalians can get rather strange so can Teritorans. Must be why one of the reasons they get along so well.

IC:Princess Lina smiled coldly, her smile being slightly colder than the dark side of an ice moon. This would be remembered. She muttered to the guard. "Berjai Huranjis Torat."
Xanthal
17-04-2004, 04:29
OOC: We are both a bit eccentric at times, aren't we? It's not so much I don't want you to be my enemy for your sake as it is for my sake. I like having Xanthal be Teritora's ally.

IC: The guard ignores the comment.

OOC: He could probably understand that (just because of the UT every Xanthalian official is required to wear), but I'll let you decide whether or not to translate.
Teritora
17-04-2004, 04:42
OOC:Well what she said was Archic Teritoran, Trade Teritoran is traslatable, most Old Teritoran is translatable but only the Teritoran Noblity speak archic. So not that he would understand but its not complmently I will say that.
Xanthal
17-04-2004, 05:09
OOC: They say opposites attract. Xanthal can't for the life of it understand why Teritora deliberately hangs on to its past. Xanthal is always too busy advancing to even bother looking back, let alone bring anything with it. That's why everyone finds its culture so dry. Everything is new. As soon as there's a better version everyone has it and the old stuff is destroyed. They keep good records, but a hundred years later that's probably all that's left of what existed a hundred years ago; records. They need some museums or a historical society or something.
Teritora
17-04-2004, 05:24
OOC:Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it and those without an culture or an weak culture are easly subdued. Besides new is not always better. Besides don't burn your bridges after you cross them. You never know when you will need them.
Xanthal
17-04-2004, 05:36
OOC: I can't deny that Xanthal is prone to repeating past mistakes, but its not so much that they don't realize it as it is that they think the reward of advancement is greater than what they see to be minor risk (such as the time they trashed the space/time continuum of the entire galaxy). As for them being easily subdued, they need to be that way for the government to work. If there were a bunch of upstarts Xanthal would collapse. It's a pillar of glass, really. Looks great and serves its purpose, but don't go throwing rocks at it. That said, it can take its share of knocks under most conditions. The problem is that these things always seem to happen at precisely the worst possible moment for the Xanthalian institution. As for burnt bridges... They don't burn 'em, they just don't put the fire out once it starts on its own. The Xanthalian government and its citizens are moralistic, idealistic, just, and patriotic to a fault. It lets them work great with each other, but they reel when confronted with the treachery and general unfairness of the outside world. Then they try to change it and everyone chases them back to where they came from again. It's a cycle that's been repeated five distinct times since I began the nation. Xanthal builds up, moves outward and opens a bunch of relations, and pokes its head into things to try improving them. Sometimes it works, most of the time they get burned. Then they feel obligated to take a defensive stance, which only pisses its aquaintences off more. On the eve of war, Xanthal backs down and goes home. They spend a while moping with a minimum of outside relations and building up some more, then they move out and repeat the cycle. They're at the moving out stage right now, and they're about to get burned. Their last retreat was, obviously, the beginning of the Kechan war.

IC: The receptionist looks over the paper a moment, then nods and hands it back after signing it. "Take the elevator on the far left. I'll give you access to the hundredth floor from here. When you get upstairs, show them this again and ask to see Triumvir Quoss."

The woman takes the paper she's holding and checks it over, then smiles, opening the door. "Triumvir Quoss' office is to your right. Good luck." Behind the door is revealed a very broad hallway extending left and right. On the right side of the forward wall is a door labeled "Conference: Quoss" to the right on the opposite wall is a door labeled "Triumvir Quoss" to the left is an identically positioned door labeled "Triumvir Yuri". The hall bends off at sixty-degree angles to both the right and the left, converging again opposite where the major was standing, forming a congruent triangle. Just around the corner on the left, to the right, was a door marked "Conference: Yuri". At the end of that section of hallway on the outer edge, situated exactly like the other two offices, was a door marked "Triumvir Benzion". Turning to the right once again, one could find the door marked "Conference: Benzion". That hall brought you back to the door marked "Triumvir Quoss", completing the triangle. Each section of hallway is a good twenty meters long and eight meters wide. In the center of each outside wall is a double door identical to the one the Major used to access the hall. The one she entered through, between the offices of Yuri and Quoss, is marked "Lounge". On the hallway connected to the left of that stretch, between the offices of Benzion and Yuri, the door is marked "Secretarial Staff". On the outside of the third stretch of hallway the door is marked "General Conference".

OOC: I really hope you can visualize all that. I have a graphic, but I never scanned it onto my computer.
