Militanaran Government Overthrown; CIM Declares Control

As the riots worsened yesterday, another, more sinister plan seems to have been at work. The Capitalism Immediately Movement (CIM), appears to have murdered the Militanaran President, Vice President, every Cabinet minister, and several hundred MPs, the remainder of whom are on the run. With the crux of Militanar's government eliminated, a military force under General Rusu Palik moved into the capital of Militanar City.

At first, most thought the force was there to restore order. But at around 10:00 PM, Militanar City time, General Palik declared the city under the control of the CIM. Tarais Te'car, head of the CIM, declared himself President of the "Armed Capitalist Republic of Militanar", changing the nation's name from the "Armed Socialist Republic of Militanar". He also announced the changing of Militanar's motto, "Might Doesn't Make Right, But It Can Aid Right", to "Capitalism Forever".

No word on elections have been released, but most analysts suspect that no elections will be declared by the new government. As mentioned above, the former Parliament has been dispersed, and all its members are either dead or on the run.

The large communist organization known as the Coalition for the Advancement of the Proletariat (CAP), also taking part in yesterday's riots, has refused to recognize the regime and declared it an "enemy of the proletariat" - a declaration made only once before in the history of the organization, against the no longer exiting nation of Tyrantian. It also has officially apologized for its actions in the riots yesterday, which "unintentionally" aided the "criminal overthrow of a democratically-elected government" by the "burgeoise class".

The CAP has also declared its intention to found a resistance organization to fight the CIM, to be known as the Proletarian Militia.

In a statement failing to mention the CAP by name, but clearly intended for them, the CIM said that all "insurgents" against their "benevolent government" would be "crushed" for the "good of the people of the Armed Capitalist Republic of Militanar".

The President of Essenia is expected to make a statement on the matter in a few hours. Essenia, whose embassy was burned down yesterday by CIM activists, is likely to have much interest in what occurs in Militanar.

The following statement has been issued to all nations and newspapers in the region

The Coalition for the Advancement of the Proletariat again wishes to make clear that we will never recognize this criminal regime. It is not representative of the people of Militanar. It unseated a democratically elected government and has made no motions towards new elections, nor will it. It only controls Militanar City and the areas around it, and, being essentially the sole opposition to its capitalist aggression, we will do all we can to contain it within that area.

We do not wish to seize power. Though we would wish to see a democratic communist state in Militanar, setting forth on the goal for a totally classless society where all are equal, we pledge never to force this goal upon the people of Militanar. We pledge never to ever again use illegal and violent means against a democratic government to achieve that goal.

All people who wish to restore democracy to Militanar are our allies, at least for now. Whether one agrees more with Labor, or the UDP, or the Patriots, or the Progressives, as long as one supports democracy in Militanar, you are on our side. Democracy comes before all else; economic systems can be decided upon in a democratic and legal fashion.

Lastly, we extend our apologies to the people of Militanar for our foolish and unintentional aid to this criminal regime during the protests yesterday. It is no excuse, but the most we can say is that we didn't know.

May the Armed Socialist Republic of Militanar breathe the air of freedom and democracy once more.

The following statement has been issued to all nations and newspapers in the region

The new government of the Armed Capitalist Republic of Militanar wishes to make clear its dedication to freedom. The only system that grants economic freedom is capitalism, and that is our goal - as it has always been. We are benevolent.

The uneducated masses of Militanar often vote against their economic interest because they are swayed by communist propaganda. We will put an end to this, and eventually democracy will be restored. At the moment, however, giving the brainwashed populace control of the country would be foolish.

All terrorists, bandits, thugs, and gangsters will be punished under our government. The so-called "Coalition for the Advancement of the Proletariat", and any illegal, paramilitary, militant terrorist organizations they create, are the enemies of the state and will be destroyed for the security of all the people of Militanar.

This is a new era for Militanar! May liberty be proclaimed throughout the land.

The Non-Human Union condemns the barbaric assignation of a democratically appointed leader. Any organisation that attempts to legitimize the termination of any democratic institution in order to pursue their own ideology indifferent to legitimacy and civil order must not be tolerated.

Our empathy extends to the people of Militanar and our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of those recently executed by the heartless regime. We urge the CIM to show their compassion and restore civilian rule. We are willing to negotiate with the new regime to organise the implementation of democratic elections, in return we shall not pursue the legal persecution of the organisation responsible.

Until that time we shall not move to establish either diplomatic or economic ties with such a regime. All senior member of the CIM are hereby notified that should they enter territories under the jurisdiction of the NHU they shall be promptly arrested and tried for violating UN Convention.

Free trade is a major tenet of capitalism. Your refusal to excersise free trade with our nation should be and is viewed as a hostile act of aggression, as is your threat against the leaders of the Armed Capitalist Republic of Militanar.

In response, all Non-Human Union citizens have been expelled from the Armed Capitalist Republic of Militanar. From this point forward, all Non-Human Union citizens in Militanar will be jailed or executed.

OOC note: Since the CIM doesn't control all of Militanar, only those citizens in territory under their control (Militanar City, the areas immediately around it, much of eastern Militanar) have been expelled forcefully. That said, once their control is solidified elsewhere (and it will be, unless radical changes in the situation occur) any Non-Human Union citizens in those areas will be subject to punishment.

Faluk Turaida'dar, leader of the Coalition for the Advancement of the Proletariat, sat in his office, considering the situation.

The CIM controlled Militanar City, and from that city they had taken most of southwestern Militanar, where the city was taken. They had initially moved north after the city's capture, and several large stretches of territory in northern Militanar were theirs as well. Lack of numbers and organization had prevented the opposition from offering much resistance with their Proletarian Militia.

That must stop, the communist leader thought. The question, of course, was how.

An aide rushed in. "Sir... the CIM is moving towards New Brounston." New Brounston was a metropolis of one million people. It was located near the center of the nation, and it had large stores of weaponry. It also was a major economic center. Its capture would be a political, economic, and military victory for the CIM. It must not be allowed, he thought.

"Bring me Gen. Kopis Dukol," the communist leader stated. Dukol had served in the Militanaran Army for twelve years, mostly in counter-insurgency operations. His skill at defeating insurgencies gave him much insight in how to run one, and he had been a valuable asset to the CAP so far.

The aide and Gen. Dukol returned a few minutes later. "What do you wish?" Dukol asked.

Faluk turned his attention first to the aide. "How many troops are approaching New Brounston?"

"Around one thousand, sir."

He then turned towards the general. "General Dukol, how many men do we have stationed there?"

"Fifty, sir."

Fifty. Fifty rag-tag militiamen, essentially civilians with guns, who needed to hold off 1000 enemy soldiers, many of which likely had military training. But there was no choice. The city HAD to remain free from CIM control.

"General... send your best commander, with as many troops as can be spared, in a few of our passenger planes to that city. I don't care what he does or how he does it, but that city MUST remain ours. The odds don't matter to me. If luck is on their side, either get it on ours or do without it."

"Yes, sir."

The NHU further condemns these barbarous actions as beyond the necessity of rationality. The NHU has no spies or operatives within or near Militanar. The execution of any citizen from the Non-Human Union will be responded to with the full force of the law. We will not hesitate to intervene and replace despotism with legitimate civilian rule when we are forced into no other position.

All Non-Human Union citizens are advised to avoid Militar and to evacuate from CIM held territory immediately. At this stage however the NHU is unprepared to intervene through military means as this is still essentially a domestic affair concerning sovereigns of Militar. However should the NHU be dragged into this desperate mess we will not institute to institute force.

"We are encountering some resistance, sir." The general's aide spoke fearfully to the military commander, afraid of retribution.

"Resistance? We have one thousand troops, and all estimates of their force size is fifty to a hundred. A few shots isn't 'resistance'. Take the city." The CIM general was determined to do his duty, and a few rag-tag fools wouldn't stop him.

"Sir, I think those estimates underestimated their troop strength. Their total I do not know, but the guerilla strikes are too frequent and too fierce to be any less than one hundred fifty or so soldiers."

"How many have we lost?"

"Only three so far, sir. But it could get worse."

"Three is nothing, and if I had half-competent underlings, it would be zero. Tell any complaining commanders to do their job and shut up."

"Yes, sir."

His recruiting efforts had been rather successful. There had been fifty militiamen when he came; he had brought one hundred with him. An additional one hundred had been recruited.

Still, though, they were outnumbered four to one. Reports indicated that seven or eight of his opponents were dead or wounded badly enough that they couldn't fight, but five militiamen had suffered the same fate. If the trend continued, his opponent would lose quite a few men, but the battle would still be lost.

He examined the situation closely. Under Gen. Dukol's command, he had served in nine Militanaran counter-insurgency missions, so he knew how the enemy thought, as well as what worked and didn't work.

A few things he had not noticed earlier called to him, and he began to issue orders.

The fascists are trying to exploit us. We must stand up and crush the great injustice of exploitation.

The fascists are trying to deny us our rights. We must stand up and defend them.

"Minister Svenson?"

"Bad news, Prime Minister. Militanar - on Free Freedom. Fell to a rightist coup a few hours ago."

"Rightist?" asked the Prime Minister. "Not exactly the most popular philosophy in Free Freedom, is it?"

"Well, that doesn't matter. You'll always have a minority who'd support anything as long as it gets them power."

"So, do we have citizens there? Trade delegations?"

"Not many residents. The consulate has already warned them to get back home. Though we've got no official treaties with Militanar, our major aerospace companies have people there for private contracts."

"What should we do first, Gunnar?"

"If the Christian Democrats don't object, I think we should aid the insurgency. Even if they don't bring back democracy, we'll have an ally in power. And if they have elections, we'll have the gratitude of the people. Works either way."

"That's presuming we can defend against the Militanar army. They seemed hawkish in their statements."

"To be precise, sir, the government were being the hawks. We can't be certain that they have the full loyalty of the army."

"Alright, so is that settled? Are we all agreed?" The SDP members nodded, and after a few seconds, the Christian Democrat Minister for Commerce said, "That's fine."

The PM sat back. "So, that's that. Any results yet in the football game?"

A report from the Democratic Times, the official newspaper of the resistance

Fighting in New Brounston; CIM continues to commit atrocities

When one thousand CIM gunmen approached the metropolis of New Brounston, the heroic Proletarian Militia rose to meet them. With daring guerilla strikes against the CIM conquerors, the Proletarian Militia has managed to hold them off. Casualties on both sides are reported to be considerable, but the Proletarian Militia has pledged to hold the city against "fascist aggression".

The international community's show of solidarity with the courageous freedom fighters of the CAP has continued today, with the generous nations of Darranack, Essenia, and Thrace-Tailteann donating money to the cause. In addition, the Non-Human Union pledged not to have diplomatic and economic ties with the new regime. The fascist police state Tyranianir expressed support for the CIM, further proving the vile nature of the new tyrannical regime.

In response, the CIM committed several atrocities. They murdered several captured Essenian and Thracian citizens, stole assets, and illegally imprisoned the citizens of Darranack, Non-Human Union, and Thrace-Tailteann, even the diplomats. The latter part should come as no surprise, admittedly, considering yesterday's CIM arson of the Essenian embassy and the resulting slaughter of dozens of innocent people. In addition, torture was used against Thracian citizens.

The CAP has condemned these atrocities and pledged, through its military branch (the Proletarian Militia), to continue its fight against the corporate fascists.

3 Federal Criminal Investigators
7 Humanitarian Relief Officers
11 members of the Medical Mercenaries

We request both the CIM and CAP allow the team access to investigate the scenes of alleged atrocities. This team will be working to establish where justice must intervene as well as presenting information on the humanitarian state of affairs and what foreign aid may be needed. They are NOT spies and do not the authority to investigate beyond their mandates. We will not hesitate to prosecute those that harm or impede our citizens.

The Medical Mercenaries operates behind the front lines providing urgent medical attention to all people, regardless of faction affiliation and should not be considered or treated as n military unit. Killing any member of this Humanitarian expeditionary force will be considered a direct attack on the nation of Biotopia.

All Biotopian citizens have been recalled from Militanar, citizens of Biotopia and the Non-Human Union alike have been promptly evacuated and half several Militanar citizens have applied for refugee status within the Non-Human Union.

A worried look crossed Tarais Te'Car's face. "They must not learn... of it. If they are about to, execute them. Let them investigate the other 'atrocities' freely - the ones we haven't admitted to are clear enough to those who think."

"Yes, sir."

A report from Democracy Times, the official newspaper of the resistance

CAP: CIM purges suspected in Militanar City and elsewhere

A spokesperson for the Coalition for the Advancement of the Proletariat (CAP) has accused the Capitalism Immediately Movement (CIM) of "fascistic purges" consisting of "killing suspected CAP members without charge". He reported that murders were occurring on "almost no basis whatsoever", and that, along with the suspect, victims included "children, spouses, sometimes parents, too." Around 250 or so people had already been killed, he said.

Similar purges were committed during the afternoon of the coup, with several hundred Militanaran MPs, cabinet members, and other high-placed government officials brutally murdered in order for the CIM to impose their corporate fascism.

In other news, Biotopia sent humanitarian investigaters to Militanar in order to investigate allegations of CIM atrocities. According to the spokesperson, the CAP has sent them their information on these purges.

Secret IC: New Brounstock, 1200 Thracian time

The last Thracian diplomat surviving in Militanar opened his laptop and turned on his satellite telephone. It had been his idea to establish a resistance station to broadcast morale-boosting news to the people. Better still, it would be located in his own nation, so the CIM would have some trouble blocking it. Granted, less and less people had access to short-wave nowadays, but it was the only way to reach this far. Some of Militanar's pre-coup diplomats were starting test broadcasts in what had once been Radio West Tailteann, and full activity would begin in a few days. The encrypted message from home came through, and he climbed down the stairs. An invasion? It wasn't unheard of for the Army to show their prowess, but that was normally on small former colonies, not a huge nation falling under fascist control. Well, he would ask the heads of the Proletarian Militia. Did they really want his nation's army in what they - and Thrace-Tailteann - still regarded as their country?

Non-Secret IC: Georg Hermann Park, Grandnexus City, 1400 local time

Michael Morrison, new recruit to the police force, knew there was going to be trouble when he saw the red banners. He had been posted to "watch over" the neo-fascist Moderate Reform Party march. They flew the eagle and black bear of their beloved Trent family, once-glorious royal house, now reduced to racial agitation. From Grandnexus Castle, old home of the Trents and the Republic's main museum, they staged a slow march to Georg Hermann Park. According to the Party, this was a protest against Government funding to the Proletarian Militia in Militaria - in reality, everyone knew it was to intimidate the Jewish community, many of whom still lived in the old Ghetto on the route of the march. The skinheads and royalists who ran Moderate Reform liked Georg Hermann Park because it was large enough to get media attention, despite the fact that the park was named after a Jew, and the founder of Thracian democracy at that.

Indeed, television cameras were scanning the plaza as they passed through. The camera crews seemed very interested in the placards of Prime Minister Seán Mac Diarmada, with words of doubt written across his face - "Traitor?" "Communist?" "Child-killer?" The police officer was a Christian Democrat, and no admirer of the Prime Minister or his policies, but he also thought Moderate Reform were idiots.

However, the red banners were something different. Michael could see their bearers emerge from Grandnexus University, two blocks away from his post. The front of the group was already entering the park, moving towards the Moderate Reform crowd. Over the radio, he heard "Unannounced march - New Left Alliance - started in University, probably going to Credonian embassy." But Michael could hardly hear the voice in his ear any more, because his eyes were fixed on the violence unfolding on the streets...

OOC: New Leftists versus neo-nazis? That could get ugly...

IC: Faluk Turaida'dar presided over a meeting of his cabinet. Many top officials had scattered in fear of the CIM, and only lately had he formed a cabinet for that reason. The CAP had never had a cabinet before, but every government - and the CAP, essentially the only authority in a good two-fifths of Militanar, certainly was one - needed a body of advisors, and this was an effective way to do it.

They had just recieved news that Thrace-Tailteann was planning to send troops to Militanar. Though they had known that at least two other nations - Essenia and Biotopia - had such plans, they had not expected such action to take place by any nation without much warning.

"Bad news," Minister Feloar Pasik said. He was portfolioless - most of them were, since ideological organizations generally weren't full of experts.

"Why do you say so?" Faluk asked.

"They are taking the authority from us. If they rid us of these fascists, the people will look to them as their saviors, not us."

Faluk was infuriated. "If I ever hear you say - or even IMPLY - that we should abandon our quest for democracy for the benefit of our ideological leanings, I will remove you from this cabinet and from the organization. Democracy comes first - always first. Communism is secondary to that goal. I thought we had agreed on that."

"But-"

"Silence! Does anyone wish to contribute something that isn't worthless trash?"

I think Minister Pasik has something of a point, sir, at least in his reflection that this is bad news," said Minister Yavol Wisin, also portfolioless. "The Thracians could remove the fascist power and install a colonial regime instead, or otherwise cause mischief, if they don't intervene through us, under our authority."

"There may be something to that," said General Dukol, the Minister of Military Affairs, "but the fact is we can only just hold our own against the CIM. In New Brounston the only thing keeping them from taking the city is a combination of luck and arrogant stupidity on their general's part, and the CIM hasn't even begun to assault many other regions of Militanar. Without direct military aid, we could end up with all of Militanar under CIM control, and the Proletarian Militia simply an underground resistance force with no real power. Personally, I'd rather have imperfect military intervention than none at all."

The cabinet quickly turned into a debating match between the two factions, with Faluk sitting on the sidelines, only commenting when someone on either side said something that was offensive to him - as Pasik had. He leaned towards Gen. Dukol's point of view, but he wanted to see if other options could be proposed by the opposing faction.

Finally, Minister Yavne Nimbo spoke up, after, like Faluk, remaining mostly silent. Yavne was his closest friend among his cabinet, both a very wise man and a committed Communist. The combination made him extremely useful, and though he rarely got into the arguments, his wise proposals generally made it through.

"I think we are arguing about something we should only be arguing about if it happens," he said. "We can all agree that if the Thracian forces agree to aid us, rather than replace us, this intervention is a good thing, yes?" All present nodded. "In that case, I suggest we send a transmission to the Government of Thrace-Tailteann, asking them to do just that. If they refuse, then we can continue this argument."

Dukol and Wisin, the principle proponents of the opposing viewpoints, both nodded their heads. The rest followed suit.

"Then it is decided," Faluk said. The cabinet members rose from their seats and left.

Tarais Te'Car glared at the group of fools he had assembled for his cabinet. None had succeeded in their tasks, though they should have been easy for any novice.

"Tlip," said Tarais, "you were supposed to intimidate the nations into not attacking us. Instead, several appear to be on the verge of doing so."

"Sir-"

"Silence! Here are my orders. Threaten to execute every prisoner we have unless every nation that has indicated opposition to us or support for the terrorists imediately renounces all violence against us and provides us with aid equivalent to the amount given to the rebels. Otherwise, tell them, we will ensure that every prisoner dies a gruesome and torturous death. If they refuse, do as you threatened."

"Yes, sir."

"Palik... why isn't New Brounston ours?"

"There is a high level of resistance, sir."

"Your forces outnumber theirs. The problem is that the idiot general there is being too cautious. Order him to attack."

"You, sir, know nothing of military matters." The cabinet gasped at General Palik's bluntness. No one spoke that way to the President. If they wanted to live, that was. "You are urging an all-out attack when what needs to be done is cautious, effective destruction of the guerilla forces. You are a fool."

Tarais angrily stood up. "Get out of this room." Cold anger coursed through his words. "You are fired from my cabinet, and from the organization. In my eyes, and the eyes of the CIM, you are a member of the Proletarian Militia."

Palik didn't flinch. "I am not going to leave. I am going to improve the world - and the CIM - considerably." His right hand buried through the suitcase of notes he had brought with him, and drew a carefully hidden pistol from within. "I hate you, Te'Care. I was a loyal CIM member. I have always been, even though I had to keep it secret when advancing through the military. I was even willing to go against my principles to occupy Militanar City and restore order there. But it was to restore order, not to install a fascist regime." The pistol rose, until it pointed directly at Te'Care's head. "You made me abandon that loyalty, and for that reason I hate you. Once - just a few days ago - everything I did was for the CIM. But I do not do this for the CIM. I can no longer do anything for a CIM as corrupt and fascistic and you have made it to be. I do this for Militanar. I do this for my family and the thousands of other Militanaran families wishing to see democracy here." His finger removed the safety, and inched towards the trigger. "The CAP, however crazy their politics may be, have the courage to put democracy and Militanar first, with communism second. You are too concerned with your ideology to do the same, and put economic freedom before Militanar and democracy." His finger touched the trigger. "You are a traitor to Militanar and a traitor to democracy, and for that you shall die." He fired, and Tarais, immobilized by a combination of fear and shock, fell, dead.

Half an hour later, the new President of the CIM, Mase Dackin, ordered the execution of General Palik. The deed was completed.

The Miltanar Humanitarian Expeditionary Force has recently returned after a fortnight [OCC: is that ok?] of investigation into the substantiation of the all alleged acts of atrocity committed by both the CAP and CIM. There findings have been detailed and summarised to Parliament with the following conclusions that:

A] Atrocities in the form of mass executions of political prisoners and Ai] civilians have indeed occurred
B] Although there is speculative evidence about the involvement of CAP forces there is no criminalising evidence as of yet and
C] Such evidence to substantiate criminal proceedings has been found against the CIM movement.
D] The MHEF has also documented the illegal detainment and ill-treatment of Biotopians and Non-Human Union citizens.

Having previously established a temporary alliance with Essenia for the mobilisation of humanitarian aid and monitoring we have now taken the following procedure:

A] Upon the findings of the MHEF the CIM has been charged with breaking international law in committing greves atrocities against the people.
B] Both the Senate, House of Representatives and Office of Supreme Chancellor have approved the outlines for a tempory military alliance with Essenia and the CAP faction, recognising the legitimacy of the CAP in Miltanar.
C] The Office of Supreme Chancellor hereby declares war against the CIM factional regime for violating international law against the people.

We await the formal acknowledgement of both Essenia and the CAP to the new tempory alliance. [ic: could CAP and Essenia Tg what military units there are requesting be involved please]. We thank both the CIM and CAP for co-operating with the MHEF.

Cabinet Meeting, Shears House, 2003 local time

As Prime Minister Mac Diarmada said in his speech to the media a few minutes before, there must be action. Forty-six deaths in the capital in one day were unheard of since the TLF cease-fire four years ago. After muttered pleasantries, the Justice Minister was first to speak.

"We've all seen the pictures, and if I may say so, it's worse when you see it in real life. I accept it was the fault of my police force, though-"

"Too right it was!" shouted the Minister for Foreign Affairs. "How do you think this will look to the voters? We're pouring money into a conflict that leaves our own people dead! And you can imagine the image it gives to the rest of the world - that the Thracian police force stands by while extremists rip each other apart!"

"Sir?" interrupted the PM's secretary. "Transmission from Militanar."

"Who is it?" He stood up.

"Moss Sykes. You know, the consulate's Third Secretary who escaped the CIM."

"Sykes... He's our man in the Proletarian Militia, right?"

"That's right. He says the Militia want our troops in, as long as their own generals are in charge."

The PM sighed. "Perhaps they're right. Well, if they need our boys, send them. Gunnar, would you object to giving them control?"

"Hard to say, but I suppose it's alright. If they've held off the CIM this long, they must have some good tactical minds in charge. The risk of it turning bad worries me. What if we're just aiding a communist counter-coup?"

Ailbhe Naughton spoke up. As Minister for Finance, she would be the one explaining this misadventure to Public Accounts - if it indeed turned bad. "Tell them we'll send about one thousand soldiers, mostly up to some low rank... I don't know much about the Army, you know that... but if we put some senior officers in there, could they analyse the situation for the rest?"

"And take over if things start to get out of control. I understand. But should we tell them that we'll have a chain of command in Militanar?" asked the Defence Minister.

"Perhaps it would be best if they worked behind the scenes. Personally, I trust the CAP, but if their generals are killed, do we expect our men to sit around waiting to be killed? Their statement seemed fairly insistent that they control our men. I'd say that either there's a strong group in the Proletarian Militia against our Army going in, or they want to use us as a pawn in a take-over. At least if we have a commanding presence in the division, they won't have to do anything... not in the interest of the Militanaran people."

The PM sat down. "Is that agreed?" Nobody objected.

"Then that's it. Tell the Militia that our men are being mobilised. Now, I think we all need some rest."

Outside Shears House, 2055 local time

The press officer could tell, just from reading the page she held, that she was going to be on tonight's news. When she emerged from the building, the cameras turned to her and stayed as she spoke:

"The Government condemns the Militanar junta in the strongest terms possible. Their dismissal of human rights, their destruction of a democratic government, and their opposition to the people's expressed will of self-determination must not be condoned by any nation. As a result, the Cabinet has assigned personnel assistance to the Proletarian Militia, consisting of around one thousand members of our Army, directly under CAP control."

Journalists were beginning to shout questions, but she retreated into Government buildings for the night. The siege had begun.

KUS Liberty
Liberty Class Aircraft Carrier

Admiral Mark Nelson was nervous. He was of course a vetern of war. He remembers all the conflicts that the Union has been in. He remebered when he was fighitng with Whitter. Of course the Union has not got into mnay conflicts. He was part of the force that was in West Pacific. He however backed out to join this force. "Admiral we are ready to commence Operation Rid Capitalist Scum" said Commander Nichole Young. Commander Young was one of his favorite aides. He was very knowledgeable and she knew what to do. She was the commander of the Liberty and she liked the ship. It was one o the newer ships. The Union Navy wanted to test out of the new Liberty class aircraft carriers to see how well they are. "Navigation when we will we reach Miltanar?" Young bellowed. "We will reach Miltanar in 2 and a half hours Commander" replied Ensign Lou Richards, the naviagator. Richards loved having the admiral aboard. Of course he was nervous of screwing up and he didn't want to seem incompentant. "Good steady as she gos Ensign and keep up the good work." Young complainted. They were right on schedule. A few hours and the government buildings and strongholds on the CIM will be up in smoke. Nelson went up to the navigation console. He went behind Richards. Richards was rather young, he was only. He was fresh out of the academy. The fleet was ready to inflict damage. Maybe now the rightful government of Miltanar will take their rightful posistion back. They were ready.

"Ok we are ready to rock and roll" said his co-pilot Lieutenant Jack Welsome. "Alright guys, lets get into Miltanar City and show these capitalist scum a lesson in rebelling" Thompson blurted out. Everybody laughed when he said that. He looked out the window. He saw the five fighter planes escorting the bomber. Of course he hoped that there would not be any resistance. "Jackknife to all pilots, we are almost in Miltanar City. Lets make this a successful mission and teach these people a lesson. They will learn not to use force or we will be on their ass. Ok people report in and lets get ready." Thompson announced over the radio." "LionHeart reporting in and ready" said Lieutenant Roger Herman. "Slacker reporting in" said Lieutenant Greg Manson. "BlueDogg reporting in" said Ensign Anthony Young. "Keeper reporting in" said Lieutentant Frank Schilling. "Fearless One reporting in" said Lt. Commander Alice Manson. With all the pilots checked in Thomspon spoke on the radio, "Ok so you all reported in. Alright lets get he show on the road. I can see the city now." They moved towards the city. "This will be a great fight and a Kerlan win" Thompson thought.

OOC: Most of the CIM air forces are centered around Militanar City, it's the only place they hold with almost no resistance and also a useful place from which to launch strikes on approaching enemy vessels.

So there are around 400 or so planes defending Militanar City, but no more than fifty or so are located anywhere else. (Note that with all the strikes there, they are not all concentrated on destroying your aircraft, nor are all of them in the air at any one time.)

Militanar City's telephone lines have been destroyed, as well as several military installations. Most of the important people were evacuated when the air raids began, but the casualties are still considerable, around 250 or so dead and perhaps thrice that wounded according to the latest reports. A considerable portion of those are civilians.

Assuming your bombers have little air combat capability, you have succeeded on downing 5 planes.

All active fighter planes are currently focused on defending the city, and the bombers are stilll on the ground, though guarded by fighters.

"Alright, soldiers, we're on solid ground!" If the officer expected to elicit a cheer from his tired recruits, he was disappointed by the continued silence - at least, as much silence as you can get in an old plane that should have been sold for scrap ten years ago. Cutbacks! Efficiency! What would a few million notes saved by the Treasury matter if the country can't fight? But it wasn't good to think about these things in the demoralising cold.

Though it wasn't quite an airfield, it was the next best thing in what was still enemy territory. Once the division got off the transport, the Mission Commander addressed his troops for only the second time.

"As you all know, we are the last men and women being sent to Militanar from the Army. We shall make our presence count; we shall hit them in their weakest area; our agents tell us the morale of the junta's death squads is dropping every day. We shall win with minimal losses to civilian life. We shall win with ease as the oppressed soldiers, who today fight against us, see the light and fight with us. We shall win!"

But first, he thought, they shall sleep. Even the 'glorious wearers of Thracian blue' could not fight - kill, since he's being honest to himself - without rest. And the one thing a civilian could never know was the horror of a hardened soldier's dreams.

Lieutenant Macavity covered his ears as the first volley of missiles roared up into the night sky, illuminating the entire flight deck. He watched them fly away until they were merely specks on the horizon, deadly specks.
"Not gonna be much left of them, eh?" contemplated Lieutenant Weisskatzen. Macavity jumped. He hadn't heard his friend coming up behind him.
"Poor b*st*rds," he replied,"they'll never know what hit 'em."
Weisskatzen chuckled. It was very quiet on the RMN Spirit of Moozimoo, the navy flagship. Just the gentle lapping of the waves against her massive hull far below and the wind whistling across the deck. Macavity lit a cigar (cigarettes are banned by law in Moozimoo) and started walking towards the door. Weisskatzen followed him.
"It's a bit chilly for me" he said
"You're right there mate!" answered Weisskatzen.
As they shut the hatch, another volley of missiles lept up into the sky and streaked away into the distance.

House of Deputies, Parliament, Grandnexus City, 1233 local time

Dr Francis Moran, former surgeon and current Chief of the House of Deputies, received the results of the vote from his clerk. He mused over them for a while, then stood up to address the rabble. It was never easy to get two thousand people in one room to stay quiet, and even harder when they were politicians.

"Ciúnas, a Teachtaí... Quiet, Deputies. Quiet, please! Silence!" He rapped the bell on his desk, and in a few seconds, they became silent.

"I have the results of the free vote, on the Government's proposal to send further soldiers to Militanar, contrary to a Senate vote five days ago."

"For, 949. Against, 1051. Proposal defeated."

And that was that. No point dwelling on yet another defeat for the Cabinet, even if it was as critical as military action. Dr Moran sat down.

"Further business, on the issue of... Quiet, Deputies! Quiet!"

"Bad news, sir," said the comm officer for the 3rd Militanar Special Division.

"God, what now?"

"We're not getting any more soldiers after all. The House voted it down."

The Mission Captain swore. "Politicians. They won't give us the men we need. Let me guess, they won't bring us back home either?"

"I'm afraid not."

"Well, that's life for you." He swore again. "Oh well, I hope we help get Shawnie four more years as head honcho." The communications officer laughed bitterly at the captain's reference to their Prime Minister.

"Captain, we heard Moozimoo ships last night. They're launching missile attacks on the CIM's bases. Could be a good chance to take more of the coastline. I know some of the others want to head straight to Militanar City, but if we have a beach-head, the mission would be a lot easier in the medium-term."

"You may be right, Steve-o. I'll meet with the Mission Council and see what they think. If they say no, we can always go along with our own people." The 3rd Division had lost twenty boys to gunfire over the last few days, but they still had well over 1,100 recruits left.

"Good stuff, sir. I'll ask the ships to give us some help, will I?"

"Yeah, do that. If the other officers agree to come along, I'll inform you."

IC: Strike.

The order was idiotic. They were outnumbered, likely hopeless, but perhaps they could manage to salvage something if they stayed on the defensive, forcing their opponents to stretch themselves in order to make progress.

Yet it had come, nevertheless. 200 Militanaran planes had been ordered to strike the Moonzimoon Second Fleet, in a desperate attempt at survival. Never mind the fact that their opponents would exploit the opening to destroy them... Around 350 planes remained, the rest destroyed in dogfights or on the ground, and if only 150 planes could defend the city...

But he had his orders, and sent word, launching the strike.

He had been through it so many times in drill, trousers on, shirt, jumpsuit, grab helmet, GO! Running through the narrow corridors of the RMN Spirit of Moozimoo noise ....everywhere.... confusion. Suddenly he was on the flight deck and struggling into his G-suit by the side of hisFf-35. Inside the cockpit, there was calm. He could see the Militanarian planes on the radar, as well as their own aircraft, streaming like a swarm of bees off the carriers of the First and Second Fleets.

"What did you call me for, officer?" Captain Harold Larsson had run down to the communications office as soon as he heard codeword 'Axle' - 'Urgent', for his second meeting with Comm Officer Stephen Sharkey in the last five days.

"We just decoded a Moozimoo transmission, sir."

"Decoded? What is it?"

"They're sending elite teams to get a beach-head, just as we thought someone would. If they can get onto Militanaran soil, there's no way the enemy can hold on much longer."

"Great! Good job, man! Do you know which stretch of the coastline they're targeting, exactly?"

"Afraid not. But it should be near where their navy is at the moment. If they take the shortest way, the target is about six hours away from where we are now."

The Captain stubbed out his cigarette.

"If we've figured out the message, sir, I guarantee you the Militanarans know about it too. There could be enough resistance to Moozimoo on that beach to repel them."

He thought about this. "Alright. Let's see if we can give those boys some help. I'll round up anyone who's still skirmishing against CIM soldiers. Officer, you see if you can figure out which beach those elite troops are landing on. Ask the Moozimoo Navy if you need to. Though I don't guarantee that they'll tell you." Captain Larsson gave a mirthless laugh.

"I'll do that. Thank you, sir. I presume we'll be packing up soon?"

"Yeah, I'll give the order shortly. Thank you, Officer."

Captain Larsson lit another cigarette, and played with some numbers on a notepad. In half an hour, he reasoned, he could give the order to move to whichever godforsaken beach this crowd of soldiers were landing on. If he had the info by then. If not, they would leave anyway, search the coast for air transports, and pray that they found the right place before the Militanar Army did.

At last...

Happiness poured through Faluk Turaida'dar as he read the reports. Militanar City was being bombed, the attack on New Brounston had been broken, and there were even reports of troop landings near the city. If the heart of CIM control could be broken, their forces would crack like an egg.

The war was not over yet, certainly. The Miliatanaran Armed Forces had been extremely powerful, and much of the equipment was in the hands of the CIM. But most Militanaran soldiers had not revealed that fact to the CAP, so however much equipment they had, they lacked the men to wield it. Had they had those soldiers... had they had those soldiers, Militanar would have been theirs in days, and these enemies would have been challenged every step of the way. Even if they had won in the end, it would have been an extremely costly victory, and if the political hesitance in Thrace-Tailteann was any indication, it may have been too costly to the populations of the respective nations. The CIM could have dominated Militanar permanently.

Fulak Turaida'dar shivered. The Island of Free Freedom had not had a powerful dictator since Tyrantian fell to internal troubles, and even when Tyrantian had been at the pinnacle of its power, Militanar had always been there to contest its every move, more than its equal in military might. Had such a dictatorship been reintroduced, without an equally powerful opponent....

But it was no use considering what might have been, especially since not only was it impossible, but it was worse than the truth. Such occurences were rare; generally, whatever could go wrong, did go wrong, and if one had the luxury of sighing with relief that something bad had not happened they were lucky.

Looking at the map of Militanar in front of him, he examined the situation. The situation was basically a stalemate, now - the CIM had blocked their advance soon after the victory at New Brounston. The greatest hope for victory was a strike at Militanar City by the foreign powers, with enough toops to take and hold the city, or at least weaken it enough to force the CIM to divide their forces. If enough forces were taken from the CIM line, it would shatter, and the CAP advance would proceed.

On the other hand, if the Thracian populace grew too angry about the war... if the Thracian forces were called somewhere else, the same thing could happen to their line. Despite the progress, all that had been accomplished was balancing the situation, at least here. In the skies above Militanar City, it was different, but not many targets in Militanar City would stop the CIM; the city's major strength was its industrial might, and destroying that would cause far too many civilian casualties, enough to make many Militanarans switch allegiance. If more former members of the Militanaran Armed Forces joined the CIM...

It was a mess, if admittedly less than they had been in a few weeks before. He hoped that the good news keeped flowing in.

We are preparing to come under heavy fire. Though our forces managed to fortify themselves quite well in the coastline, they number only 2,000. This compares poorly to at least 4,500 Militanar army soldiers.

Co-ordinates of their divisions have been sent; however, they are only approximate, as the troops are moving towards the beach as we speak.

Our key advantage is anti-infantry weaponry. This will hopefully allow us to escape to the south, towards the following co-ordinates on the coastline: [ENCRYPTED]. This is a safe area, held by Proletarian Militia soldiers. We advise you to change co-ordinates to there. Its weakness is its proximity to the air battle; however, it is our only chance for victory.

If you or Atlantica could send further infantry or light sea transports to the new destination, that would be excellent.

The scene would be normal, if not for the fact that the people involved were a pair of cyborgs. A dull click kept interupting the words of the General, quite annoying especially during such a busy time, when he didn't have the spare moment to have it repaired. "Should we (click) be worried about that message (click, buzz) from this Moozimoo place?" the General asked, having requested an immediate report from his intelligence department. "No sir, they're quite poorly equipped compared to us, and they should experience supply problems in an extended conflict. They've been making military cutbacks recently, not to mention that their economy is quite weak compared to ours," the aide laughs before his next words, "They actually tax almost half of their population's income, and yet our government still has a higher budget than theirs by a few billion." The General joined his aide in the laugh that followed, more annoyed than ever by the constant clicks. "Keep me informed (click), I want a full report on their forces (click) in the area before we move to assist the freedom fighters (click). If we're going to do (click) this we're going to do it right (click), and crush everything in our way on the first try." The aide only smiled and nodded.

Private communications satellites are comandeered to monitor radio transmissions within the region the conflict takes place in. Spyplanes are not dispatched, but reconaissance flights of radar equipped craft with fighter escorts make shallow excursions into the areas around Militanran airspace.

OOC: I went off the basic public information available at your nation's bio page. According to that page, your nation is making military cutbacks, and your economy is stagnant compared to that of Ascensia.

I attained your budget using the NationStates GDP Calculator (http://www.pipian.com/stuffforchat/gdpcalc.php), and it was lower than mine last I checked.

A poorly equipped military is a symptom of a low budget and a poor economy, logically anyway.

Calm down, please.

OOC - Future / Modern / Fantasy actually, and if you want to get technical it balances out into a Modern tech scene, considering their only major "Future" technology are biomechanical/genetic enhancements for individuals, eveything else is quite modern, right down to their ordinary assault rifles.

Again, calm down, please, and wait for Militanar's input before arguing.

Our forces should be approaching the second beach you suggested any moment now. We are continuing to shell the Militanarian forces, so that they think we are going to land. The air battle is almost over, most militanarian planes are leaving. As well as the 60 V-22 transports, 15 C-66 transports will be arriving shortly at the second beach carrying one Monster tank (raysia) each. As you probably know, two of our ships have been sunk and three seriously damaged, including one of our carriers. Can you recommend an airstrip where I can land 15 VTOL fighters? Preferably one with some aviation fuel. Thank you.

Macavity always liked flying the F-35. He flew vertically up to 2000 feet, then engaed the main engine. It wasn't long before the coast came into view and he could make out the Moozimoo transport aircraft unloading, but coming under fire. One of the V-22s had been shot down, hopefully after it had unloaded. Then he saw a bright flash off light to the left. It streaked past him, over the beach and exploded in the forest beyond. There they were! He spotted Militanarian troops and fired. Two sidewinders peeled of and smashed into the troops. Macavity came round again and blasted them with his cannons.

Everyone’s willingness to kill frightened Lloyd. As the beach came in view speakers in the Chinook blared out Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries." The mounted machine gun began firing out of the side of the helicopter; those near enough were firing their own guns onto the Militarians. One of the apaches swooped passed firing off missiles before the tail burst into flames and it crashed onto the beach. The Chinook landed not far from the Apache wreck. Lloyd thought he heard the pilot screaming from within it, the Chinook squad checked there guns before running onto the blood soaked beach.

The Battle-Weary.

"Where the hell is this back-up, Jim?" The fortification into which 1st and 3rd Special Companies were crammed reminded Captain Larsson of pictures of the War of Independence he saw in Officers' School. His soldiers were living between rocks, equipment and metal sheets, and it was as claustrophobic as the trenches that the revolutionaries fought in, nearly one hundred years ago.

"One moment, sir! I'm getting a transmission!" The Deputy Comms Officer was an old friend of the Captain. When the former Comms Officer was gunned down with ten other men while building the barricade, Lieutenant James Strength was more than willing to step up and replace him.

"And?"

"They're about to arrive! Planes are flying in right now, and the -" Machine-guns roared; missiles screamed; classical music seemed to boom in the distance. "- In God's name, what's going on out there?"

"Stay in here, officer. I'll check." As Captain Larsson looked outside through a salvaged periscope from the shallows of the beach, his face brightened. "It's allied insignia! Aeroplanes! Remember pilot school, Jim? Well, this is a full Trentian Air Assault in perfect formation! I'm sure they don't call it that over there, but the basic strategy's the same!"

"So that means... we'll be able to get out and attack soon, right?"

"Once we see them doing the same. MEN!" he shouted to the recruits under his care; he was not particularly progressive in his attitudes to women in the army, but he was a fine leader. "Our siege is over!" There was no cheer; they were uncertain whether that meant they would live, or just die more quickly. "We've got friends at last, men, and by God if they haven't bolstered us. Open the doors and look out - you're fine, they've stopped firing on this part of the beach. When they come out of their transports, we run. Get equipped, then get to the doors!" They hurried to follow commands. In less than two minutes, they were assembled by the makeshift exits.

"When we see their soldiers, we run. ... RUN!" As over 1,500 men and womed rushed onto the beach, unsure of their future, the officers wondered if this would truly be a historical turning point, or just a black mark in the footnotes of military tradition.

For a few minutes Commander Renko and his number two were looking at the communicatior, then at each other with confused looks on their faces.

"What the hell?"

they said in unison..

then the tactical officer turned from her station

"Sir Im getting an uplink of target coardinates from Taskforce Landstrike, they have pinpointed the enemy on the beach head.. it seems to be som form of.. charging manouver.."

Renko blinked a couple of times..

"What is it, full moon or something??.. That means they are to close to the Moozimoo Cats on the beach... ok.. Tactical, target the cruise missiles to the rear of the enemy, I want you to wipe out any form of supply hain he has.."

Whith a stream of bubbles four cruise missiles in their subroc launchers left the Subcutters and headead surfacewards, each carrying several hundred indipedantly guided fragmentation bomblets.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Taskforce Landstrike

The sub fleet had pulled to within range of the Moozimoo fleet and the Area Defense Rampart subs had been sent foreward to form a grid beneath their allies surface ships. After the subs had been tied in to the MilCom network, hatches opened and several hundred anti aircraft subroc missiles reached to the surface, turning the sea around the Moozimoo ships into a little forest of white plumes as they broke the surface.

Meanwhile...

Sargeant Nathan J. Hood reviewed the troops he had in the Roamer transport, the helmet of his dragonfish armour had been pushed back to better facilitate the cigar currently hanging from one side of his mouth.
thirty good men sat ready in their armour, weapons checked over and ammo strapped in. It wasn't so much the state of his men that worried Hood, he was supremely confident in them, it was the enviroment, they hadn't fought properly on the surface for many years, and the akwardness of the dry lands still haunted him.
An hour or so later, the Roamer he was on and two others, also carrying a platoon each of heavy troop pulled into the shallows of the beach and a red flashing light turned green, with that Sargeant Hood spat out the cigar and flipped his helmet down, locking it in place, as he did so the transport section of the Roamer flooded and then opened to the outside sea, allowing him and his men to swim out and make theirway to the shorline.

Private Drunich wasn't cut out for war. He was overweight, apathetic and smoked way too many cigars. He thought about this as he lay in the ditch, bullets whizzing over his head. Join the army, they said, see the world, they said - BANG
"Sh*T that was close" he yelled
"Lets go" ordered his sergant "we-"
"EVERYBODY GET DOWN! WE GOT DAISY CUTTERS!" shouted the comms officer.
Drunich, being in the correct position already, was able to see the five MC-130s fly almost gracefully through the anti-aircraft fire. Their droning seemed to cut out all the other noise on the beach. Then, slowly, their rear hatches opened and out fell a package that was as big as a car. Drunich knew what would happen next, and curled up into the foetal position. He didn't see the five massive explosions, but he heard them. BANG BANG BAN-BANG BANG. He opened his eyes. A tree flew over his head. He waited for a bit then looked over to where the Militanarians had been. It was practically a wall of fire, interspersed by five enormus craters. Dead militanarians lay everywhere, and many where on fire.
Drunich smiled, and lept out of the ditch..

About this time the platoon were marching up the beach, underwater, when a bloody great tree landed on the surface, its wake and shock stunning the armoured men breifly, who watched it sink to the sea bed amongst them.

"What the hel are they using for ammo?"

Sargeant Hood exlaimed.

One of the group kept looking back at the sunken tree..

"Sarge.. I think.."

"Your not supposed to think!"

"But Sarge! its kinda.."

"I don't care!"

"Really sarge. .isn't wood supposed to.."

"SHUT UP!"

"Float?"

"......"

"Just get to the beach.."

As three groups of thirty, the power armour troops crested the surface and broke into a run up the beach to the nearest cover.

"Private, get the sheet on your right and move it up the beach!" shouted the Captain. Since leaving their original fortification, thirty of his soldiers had been killed, most by Militanar gun-fire, some by the daisy-cutters which Recon had thought were birds through his blood-stained goggles; at least, until they heard the low whining that not even the hungriest bird of prey could make. Now, there were less than 1,500 of his people left to get past the Militanar defences. War was indeed hell.

From a tactical view, their position was improved from a few hours before. There were other army divisions on the beach now, and the 'Democratic Alliance' troops could possibly escape with their lives. But it is hard to think tactically when you are putting comrades into body-bags.

"Jim, I'm getting depressed."

"If it's any consolation, sir, we all are."

"For the last time, call me John. We went through six years of General Staff School together, and you treat me like you'd treat a stuffed suit in Headquarters?" He paused. "What's that song the vets used to sing in drills? You don't remember the lyrics by any chance, Jim?"

"The lyrics to 'All The Angels Rise Up'?" He laughed. "Well, if I did, it'd sully the innocent ears of all the greenshirts out there! And then the PC police would court-martial you for linking the Army with religion."

Captain Larsson seemed to become happier for a second. "True, true! ... But this is real, it's bloody real, not a bloody drill. You know something? We have not a hope in cold Hell of living at the end of this if we stay by ourselves. I believe you said that some Atlanticans 'floated up onto the beach', to use your words. Though I doubt anything literally floated out there- "

For some reason, the Comms Officer seemed to laugh to himself.

"- they would nevertheless be of good help to us. Get them in, if they need cover. Then get me a meeting with whoever's in charge of them. If you could get the commander of Moozimoo's Cats to come as well, that would be super-excellent. Now I am going for a very strong drink, of the sort that is banned at home. You're in charge, since I don't trust anyone here more than you. But do that for me first."

The Captain went into the private room of the office cabin, shut and locked the door. His Communications Officer and temporary Special Mission Captain made his own exit, with much on his own mind that he had not told his old friend and ally. He did not dwell on it; he had work to do. The work always came first, and that was one of the problems with this job.

Far out to sea, the cruisers lauched a missile attack. Each missile lit up the ocean, and several officers reported seeing "sea-monsters" ghosting past the vessel. Admiral Glazzot laughed when he heard the reports.

Tank commander Kurt Toberg pressed the play button on his iPod (sorry) and sat back and relaxed to the sound of REM. His tank, a Raysian Monster, was thoughtfully named Solar Wind II . She was currently sitting in the hold of a giant "pelican" transport, behind her sat 16 similar tanks and above her there were 750 soldiers. Suddenly, the engines seemed to switch off. The aircraft shuddered and then there was a large shudder. They felt the aircraft deaccelerating, slowly and then coming to a stop.
"Let's kick some ass!" yelled Kurt, and the tank's engine fired up, as the nose cone began to open.
After the 34 tanks had moved up the beach, the troops disembarked and folowed them.

Admiral Talia Peroc stood on the bridge of the Bellerphon, she admited to herself that the ANA taskforce was quite impressive on the surface, allthough it still made her nervous. The sound of a door hissing open behind her made her turn, one of her communication officers came in carrying a data pad, which he handed to her, she read it briefly then handed it back.

" It seems Admiral Glazzot wants this war over in time for evening Kiti Kat, ok, muster what surface armour troops we have, and get the transports ready to back the Admiral up. Wire him tight beam letting him know our troops are ready."

She turned and looked out the bridge window, a frown on her face, it had become apparent that ANA seriously lacked in land based weapon systems, and it worried her, in her mind she drafted a report to Command stating this shortfall.

John Larsson knew he had had a bad night, but he didn't think he'd still be seeing visions in the morning. Yet here was an unusual sight, as clear as day; a man shouting from an aircraft carrier into the deep ocean.

The Captain had to rub his eyes before he realised where he was. He felt rocking motions, but he presumed that it was a truck of some sort. When he looked down, he saw the life-raft on which he and two guards were floating.

"What the hell are we doing on a boat?" he blurted, still half-asleep and half-drunk. "Get me off this damned thing!"

"Meeting, sir!" explained the front guard. "You, Moozimoo and Atlantica, on board an ANA sub!"

"A sub? That explains it, I suppose... uhh..." He relieved his sea-sickness over the edge of the raft. "Well, get me on. I'm ready."

"We'll board that carrier, straight ahead." The second guard muttered, "Though in his condition, he probably thinks there's at least two ships there!"

"I heard that, you thick-skulled loser! Now sober me up. I don't want to be bleary-eyed when I'm meeting those foreigners. Gives a bad image of the country." One of the guards gave him a short injection of a new bio-product, "guaranteed to bring sobriety to even the most rum-soused admiral", according to the advertising.

"Alright, I'm good. Though I'm convinced that whatever stuff they sell in that syringe gives you a worse headache than you started with. Well, what are we waiting for?" The raft had nearly collided with the rung of a ladder on the Moozimoo carrier. "Get me up, and get me face-to-face with Admiral Glazzot!"

And on land, Captain Sean Saville, the head of 1st Division, was gaining ground every half-hour. In less than a day, they could be in contact with the safe corridor that 2nd Division had made, away from the coast. That would bring Thrace and its allies inland, to a safer place from which to advance on Militanar City; until then, they needed to fight on, and forget the insanity of killing people they had never met for just a few more hours.

General Lloyd prank called Glazzot for the fifth time and chuckled to himself before having a go with his kitty voodoo doll; "Won't invite me to your stupid war tea party will you!" he muttered to himself.

Later that evening one of the radio operators rushed eagerly into the Generals tent. Lloyd hastily threw his Playboy in the corner and zipped himself up...
"KNOCK DAMMIT!"
The Radio operator suppressed his slaughter to inform the General of news from intelligence satellites. "A nearby CIM base has been spotted. It has few defences. It’s about two days away" The Generals face lit up. "Won't let those bloody Cats steal this victory! Get the boys ready!"

The next day the troops had all sobered up and had left towards the base, encouraged by the romantic war stories from the air brigade. Racial slurs were heard from the trucks and tanks and they were on their way.

The Neuvo rican task force commander col. abdan led the force from the beach point. He turned to his assistant and asked about the strength of his primary attack force 1500 well trained men with roughly 6 tanks, probably seven if the other one ll start working.

"and at sea?"

1 carrier 5 cruisers and about 10 destroyers and corvettes. Air strength, we've got about 20 iar Kfir fighters and some new NR - 15 Khamseen fighter jets.

Excellent, and when can we attack?

We can attack once we know what to do well need an update from an allied commander

On board the ANS Bellarphon a crew member came onto the bridge and sidled up to the Admiral and whispered in her ear.

"He what? "

The crew member shrugged and moved over to the heavy armoured blast door on the side of the bridge and cycled it, with a hiss the foot thick door thudded open, letting the salt sea air waft in, along with..

".... to atend a conference - can we get some kind of gangplank between us?"

The Admiral blinked a couple of times and stuck her head out the hatch, cupping both hands to her mouth.

"Yes OK! we will set up a hoist winch for you!"

She was momentarily distracted as several of the bridge crew started pointing to something in the water, it looked to her like a small orange.. boat.

"OK, open up the foreward sub launch bay number 2 and bring them in.."

she turns to her second in command.

"Have the Atlantica conference room set up, make sure there are refreshments as well.."

She looks at the video feed of the drunk chaps in the dingy and then back at the Cat Admiral.

"And make sure its a damn good sellection.."

---------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile, the other carriers had finished launching their fighter screens, and 60 or so Skyfire fighters circled in a holding pattern, meanwhile in their launch bays the Skyspear high atitude, hyper speed bombers rested atop their rocket boosters, just waiting for a signal and targets.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Sargeant Hood led his three platoons of power armour troops through the blasted hell that was until a short time ago, a prime holiday beach, the armours jump nozzles were getting hot enough to melt sections of sand into glass from the amount of manouvering him and his men had been doing, then up ahead one of his scouts saw something.

Crawling cautiously he crested a slight rise and saw the Thrace-Tailteann troops, smiling he started to back down into the sand valley, not wanting to startle his allies, but a passing bullet took his cigar off almost at the lips, and sent the still smoking stogie hurtling towards the Thrace-Tailteann troops.

Admiral Glazzot walked quickly down the gangplank, followed by several high-ranking officials. Suddenly his mobile communicator rang.
"Hello?..........Look, stop calling me! ..I- gah!" the admiral turned the communicator off. "Damn prank calls!"
A small dinghy pulled up to the side off the sub, and a Thracian stepped off.
"Hello there..."

The tanks rumbled up the beach, to the top of a dune. Commander Toberg's radio crackled: "Fire!", and he locked on to the remaining Militanarian troops, and pressed the big red button. A round hit the enemy tank square in the turret, and it exploded.
"Yeah, bitch!" shouted Toberg's engineer, Private Davies "we got 'em good!"
He opened the hatch and hoisted himself out of the tank.
"Hey Kurt!"
"What?"
"That was their last tank! We won!"
The commander appeared out of the hatch, grinning.
"Sweet! I think we've earned ourselves a cigar, and that's an order! Oh, and you better get on the radio to the command center, they'll want to know."

"First Captain Sean Saville?"

"Speaking."

"Captain, this is 2nd Division calling. Your path to us is clear; repeat, clear. Please proceed to the agreed co-ordinates."

"The Militanarans are gone?" He paused. "And from there to Militanar City?"

"Yes. We will attack from the south-east. Please inform Captain Larsson."

"Officer, Captain Larsson's-" The link disconnected.

"It's no use, sir," said the Comms Officer. "In any case, he doesn't need to know. We'll meet up with 2nd Division before the Captain returns from his meeting. In fact, I'll tell him that right now."

"Great."

"Oh, one more thing. I picked up a transmission from an FM station to the north-east. Moozimoo are making much faster progress towards the capital than we are, and they will probably take it first."

"Jim, I don't care. Who else is going to govern the place? Us? We couldn't stop a coup on some godforsaken rock we happened to own last year. Did you read that in the newspaper? No way. That's how godforsaken it was. We'd have no chance of keeping control of this place. If Moozimoo wants it, good for them. Just get me out of here and get me a star for my shoulder."

"You might get the star, Captain. It's a long time since we've had any war generals to speak of - the media will love it."

"Indeed they may. Now send that message, Jim. Then we're moving north-east."

"Will do."

OOC: I will be away for one or two weeks, so I'm putting my guys on caretaker work.

IC: Keeping the peace.

The forces of the Thracian Special Militanar Mission were all together for the first time. They numbered nearly 2,500 between them.

"So there's no way we can get to the capital?"

"Well, there's two factors against it. First - there are CIM forces in and around the city, but we don't know how many and where. With their intelligence sources, they probably know where we were planning to attack."

"And second?"

"The others are all heading towards Militanar City. And there are enough of them to take it over. Yet there's a whole country to free. If we don't start peacekeeping missions in towns and the countryside, who will?"

"Alright. That's what you think, and you might be right. I suppose it should be safer than storming into a fortified city."

"Don't be presumptive. What we do may be minor to people who think tactically, but it matters to the people. And if it matters, there'll be CIM soldiers trying to stop us."

"Very well. See you at six o'clock?"

"That should be fine."

The captains left the room, and gave their tanks and transports orders to turn east. This was a big country, but you had to start somewhere.

"which is?"

"60 NR 16 Khamseen units"

"60!, there were only 30 when i last checked air marshall"

"Sir the capital sent a newly formed air division, this time they are equipped with High explosive missiles and rockets"

"What about any SAM missiles you may be up against air marshal, have you thought about that?"

"Yes, all the NR 16s have chaff to send guided missiles off course"

"well, good luck".

General Mizinauer turns to the window of his office and sees 3 20 strong formations blasting off to the enemy capital.

------------------------------------------------------------

"Ok NR units 1 - 15 follow me. Units 16 - 60 bomb the industrial region.

this would have been so much easier if those new bombers arrived in time".

The radio buzzes "sir to the east!"
