Government Castle, Nanakapolis
President Michael J. Smith went through files on his desk. He opened the folder entitled Updated Maps. There was a map of the Nanakaland Moon Colony, a map of the Nanakaland territories, a map of troop movements, maps of Nanakaland cities, a map of Mars - Wait, thought the President. How did that get in there? Attached to the map of Mars was a note.

Mr. President,
I thought you might like this. Mars still has a few patches of uncolonized land. As Nanakaland grows and expands its territories, I think we have finally solved the problem of overpopulation. I know that colonies on earth and the moon have kept us from getting any overpopulation problem, but we must plan for the future. Mars is the future. If we colonize a patch of land there now, there will be no future problem of overpopulation and we will get there before it is fully colonized. This is the future.
We already have an advantage. We have colonies on the moon we can use as a stepping stone. We have a fully functional space fleet. We have dozens of orbital space stations orbiting the moon and Earth. Many idle stations and fleets can move to Mars, transport colonists there. With your permission, we can start now. Soon, we'll have a portion of Mars.
Sincerely,
High General Flint
The President thought for a while. The note was convincing, though. He immediately spread the idea. Michael alerted everyone of the new plan. Soon enough, the message reached almost everyone. It was even talked about in NNNN....
President Michael Smith turned on the television the next day.
*The screen faded into the NNNN symbol.*

*The picture faded into the NNNN news room. At the desk, there was two reporters - Sam and Laura. The camera zoomed into Sam.*
"Hello, and thank you for tuning into NNNN," he said. "I am Samuel Robinson and we're here are your headlines."
*The camera paned over to Laura.*
"Thank you, Sam," she said. "I'm Laura Brown here with the headlines." She paused for a minute. "As you may know, an alien pod crashed into the Nanakan Highlands. However, there's something far more important. We've colonized other places on Earth, we've colonized the moon before, but the President has recently made a statement that there are plans to colonize Mars."
"Yes," said Sam. "We'll have more on it as the news breaks..."
