THE END IS COMING! (serious RP. No... really!)

"Start painting your signs! Get your ammo ready, your assault rifles cleaned and your tickets off this rock.

I am here to announce, officially, that I know for a fact what will end life on this planet and in this solar system."

The speaker is Doctor Pavel Saratov, head of Crimmond's Science Council. He has been responsible for such recent exploits as planning to raise the Titanic, but international response dissueded him. He may be off kilter a bit, but he was rarely wrong.

"This will kill this planet." He says, the huge screen behind him changing from blank to what looked like a huge dark nebula or storm. There were two holes in it though. "This is the Galactic Maelstrom. Also know as Polo's Bolos, after the research ship Marco Polo, the ship that found that... thing. It is a three lightyear wide storm with two black holes in it, tumbling about each other in a wild orbit. It is not heading anywhere near us though. In fact it's edging away from us.

"But it is heading to where we will be. In approximatly 75 trillion years." He pauses to let the laughter die down. "It's not a joke you imbeciles. Earth will be destroyed, none of us, with the exception of Zero-One will be around to see it. It may have no real bearing on our lives now, but we know that we'll have to abandon Sol one day."

He sighs. "No ship can get within three lightyears of the edge of the storm. The gravitational disturbances and radiation would kill you hundreds of trillions of years before you reached either black hole. There's so much hard radiation in there, we can't even penetrate to the core of the storm. In about a thousand years it will be a danger to the extreme outer edge of our region of the galaxy." He leans forward and sighs. "We finally know what will happen to this mudball. And now I wish we didn't."

OOC: This is an open news conference. You have reporters there if you want. And I've had three RPs with the maelstrom and no one complained, so now I make the announcement and now claim my title as the only RPer to EVER succesfully give a sure end to all life on earth.

Comment from Xanthalian Triumvir Xellatoth when informed of the news:
"Seventy-five trillion years? That long? My money says it won't make it past a million."

Don't a few things happen before then that end life?
I'm sure the sun expands into a red dwarf or something bigger than it is now, and Earth would end up on the inside, if it didn't melt.
Of course. All life in this galaxy and andromeda will end when it hits us in a couple of hundred trillion years.

OOC: lol. I'm talking the planet itself, the actual bodies of rock and plasma in the case of the sun. Not life on it. I wouldn't give us 100,000 years.

"It is a bit too far for us to be concerned," a NNNN reporter comented. "I'm sure an alien race will destroy earth before then - and I'm not joking either."

[OOC: I've done 2 RPs on an alien race known as the Stalkers for some time (am on #3) and no one complained on that. I'm sure the Stalkers pose more of an urgent threat than this.]

Are you talking to me or Xanthal?

I don't think it really matters, it applies to everyone.

A reporter from the leading Falasturian Newspaper, The Falasturian Express, stands, and asks,

"Do you think there is any hope for our planet? What do you say, for instance, to the thought that in the however-many thounsands of years we have, science will advance enough that we can combat the black hole in one way or another?"

"Isn't it possible to send a very powerful ship through if they had thick hulls and radiation protection? It might work." asks a NNNN reporter.

[OOC: Have you ever read Sphere?]

In light of these threats towards the great planet Earth the Mikosolf Corperation has decided that the most intelligent action would to be:

A) Strip mine the planet of all its resources

B) Find another and go to it

C) Rinse and repeat.

Therefore the, "take it all, it may not be there tomorrow" policy is now in effect.

"Isn't it possible to send a very powerful ship through if they had thick hulls and radiation protection? It might work." asks a NNNN reporter. "Again, there is so much hard radiation, that our sun probes stopped working after one minute in the core."

"Already the Maelstrom has interfered with an outlying trade route, but it has been moved to compensate for the gravity distortions."
