WIN Headline News: Election Results are in!

Whyzardia
10-04-2004, 22:22
Thanks to the governmental crisis following former CEO Whyzard's arrest and removal from office, the Incorporated States of Whyzardia has concluded its first ever proxy vote. The voters had two issues to deal with on this ballot, the question of beginning a Whyzardian nuclear weapons program and the choice between the three candidates for CEO put forth by the Ruling Board. And the results are:

Former Marketing Director Owat Adeal takes over as CEO!

After a whirlwind media campaign Owat Adeal, our former Marketing Director, has won election to the post of CEO. Odeal was second in the polls behind current CFO Penny Pinscher for most of the campaign but unleashed a television ad blitz in the final five day that propelled him to a handy victory over Pinscher and distant third place candidate Bond James Bond. According to WIN's political analyst Neal Thigpen "there was just no way the other candidates could compete with Adeal's slick media campaign. He cleverly played both sides of the nuclear weapons debate, making fellow nuke supporter Bond out to be a warmonger while at the same time decrying Pinscher's anti-nuke stance as weak on defense. The fact is that when it comes to marketing anything, whether the newest brand of toothpaste or the best candidate for CEO, Adeal's advertising experience makes him unbeatable."

The final election standings:
Owat Adeal: 59.9%
Penny Pinscher: 33.1%
Bond James Bond : 7.0%

Voters OK Nuclear Weapons Program

The Nuclear Weapons Development proposal was given approval by a slight majority of Whyzardians in the recent proxy vote, with 53% approving. Exit polls indicate that a huge majority of citizens (92%) believe that Whyzardia's conventional defense systems are adaquate for homeland defense but apparently only 53% believe that a nuclear deterrent is necessary.

Many of those polled stated a preference for a ground based ballistic missle shield to stop incoming nukes instead but the Ruling Board did not put that proposal on the ballot. "We need a nuclear deterrent as fast as possible" states incoming CEO Owat Adeal "and an ICBM shield would take too long to develop. We already have a plutonium breeder reactor in Atom City and are in the planning stages for another one near the El Diablo Uranium Facility. The plutonium is here right now and we already have 10 Ohio Class nuclear submarines fitted out with Polaris missles so all we need to do is design a warhead to put in the missles. But designing and constructing a passive ICBM shield could take decades, which we don't have."
