Dower frowned, scanning the mail. Puma Arms, as well as many other companies, had become negligent in their respective inventorires; and the department of Industry promised time after time to do someting about it. If anything bad came of this-- i.e.; the KNDF didn't recieve the munitions it had asked for-- some heads would roll.

How could an arms shipment that large go unnoticed? That many weapons couldn't just disappear, could it?

Pandoroq -- Konania

The crates arrived by different trucks from different parts of the nation, being dropped off at a station checkpoint outside the complex. Stalzer smiled to himself; Matthew had come through once again. He'd have to treat the young man to a drink one day.

Cities -- Konania

Later that evening, Stalzer's men arrived at their destinations, staying in various hotels across the country. Every effort was made to hide any sort of pattern in their lodging. Each group quietly began its task, working through the night.

3: "Something Great and Terrible"

Tripera -- Federal Republic of Konania

It was already a bad day. Rain had been falling in most cities for the past few hours, leaving most roads congested with traffic. There had been an accident on the Maglev rail between Northshore and Nannis.

Frank Garreth did not want to go to work that day. Though he lived in Tripera, Konania's "show city", the Department of World Affairs office was far enough from his home that he thought twice before getting out of bed. They had called for all "essential personnel" which was a clever way of saying that if you did not show up for work today, you would be next on the list of Those Whose Pay Needs To Be Cut.

As expected, the road was clogged in front of the World offices. He leaned out the window of his car, glancing forward to see what the hold up was. A large truck was attempting to take the same left turn into the D-World parking lot that he was.

* * *

Eaton looked nervously up at the mirror, wondering for what had to be the fortieth time if anyone was following him in the truck's blind spot. Just that same black car again. He shifted into reverse again, inching the cab backward...

* * *

Finally, some movement, Garreth thought. He might not be so late after all.

* * *

Eaton cringed, easing the truck into the carefully selected place in the parking garage, relaxing when he finally got it into the right postion. He took the backpack sitting next to him, slinging it under one arm before stepping out.

He walked to the back of the box truck, opening the door, sliding out the the large metal box disguised as an electrical transformer with some effort, pushing it so that it sat near the entrance of the garage under the Department of World Affairs. Eaton flipped open the top panel, fiddling with some switches that would start the fuse.

* * *

Garreth frowned, watching the driver step out and unload the truck as his own car moved past. All that for some metal box?

* * *

Eaton looked up, seeing that black car again. The man was looking at him. Their eyes met for a moment, and Eaton gave a curt nod before slamming the panel shut. He got back in the truck, and made his way back into the street. About four blocks down the road, he slowed the truck down, tossing a backpack out the window.

Ten minutes later, an explosion tore through the air, shaking both the city and Konania to their foundations.

In Avalon, it was the central office of the Department of World Affairs.

In Kareto, it was a national mounument to the Liberation.

In Nannis, it was an office of the Department of International Trade.

In Northshore, it was a hotel where foreign tourists were known to congregate.

In Ilaca, an office of foreign aid.

All told, 398 Konanian government officials would die, as well as 134 non-associated civillians. A total of 532 were dead.

The flag would fly half staff today, its glory further tarnished by tears from a weeping sky.

The shock had been... massive, and Frank Hauser was lying in the hospital, his left arm and leg... missing. Being genetically optimized and having incorporated technology in ones body was nice... unfortunately, it was far less über than normals would usually think. As a matter of fact, he was lucky that he had survived...

So, it was hard to tell if the tears he wept originated from his sadness or from his joy... being crippled or being alive.

Worst of all... He still didn´t know what exactly had happened, didn´t know what it had been... what had destroyed it... The only thing he remembered were the children crying, a mother, lying on the ground, bleeding...

He would never be able to forget it.

Finally, he saw someone lying in a bed near to him. He looked at him for a minute or so, wondering. Then he asked him.

"What... what happened?"

DA

Konania: Five explosions kill hundreds of people

Konania: Yesterday morning, a series of explosions shocked Konania and the entirety of Sisgardia. More than 500 people are reported to be dead, many more are wounded.

So far, the perpetrators are unknown, the Konanian Government didn´t issue any statements. Although it seems that no Angstian Citizens have been killed, a couple of victims residing in Northshore when the attacks happened are known.

A reason for the attack is missing, just as any hints regarding the origin are missing.

In any case, the office for foreign relations called this particular issue a Threat for the entirety of Sisgardia.

DA, The Triluminarium

Mr. Morden had already received his orders. Now, that Althena and Clark were actually working together, his work was going on almost... smoothly.

Quickly, he wrote the message:

From: DA

Subject: Bombings

"We are deeply concerned regarding the recent... attacks in your nation, and consider them to be a significant, not to say, extreme, threat. For you, but also for the entirety of Sisgardia.

The victims of this horrible atrocity have my, and my people`s, condolences. We will help in any way we can.

However, it is obvious that a highly coordinated and exceptionally dangerous attack has been successful. Thusly, we would like to offer you something else: Our help in finding out who the perpetrators are.

We must act quickly, before this sickening disease, called 'terror', covers the entirety of our region. Thusly, specialists from soldats are at your service, should you consider them useful, as I`m sure you will. Only through teamwork will we be able to find the men responsible for this atrocity.

~ Mr. Morden

Then he send the message, chuckling. [/i]One has to admit: Damn professionals, this terrorists are... I wonder if they are willing to work for money...[/i]

The room was silent, save for the crackling of the fireplace that shed its warmth and light into the darkened room. Thunder clouds covered the entire sky across above the cliffs that looked out over the sea of Aelios and arcs of lightening could be seen striking down onto the water before shortly after being followed by the thunderous rumble that one could feel all the way down to one’s bones. The Crimson Palace in the West Land was build by the second Taurain to rule over the Empire, it was a comfortable place on the inside, yet it’s true purpose was to remind the People of the power of nature, something that was proved oh so often here.

Sighing, Arnaud Taurain raised himself up wearily from the comfortable chair he sat in. Though he was in his late fifties, the emperor of the Enduring Empire many times felt as if he was in his late nineties already. He was still in good condition, he worked out regularly after all, but that did little to ease the burden of his position or to chase away the shadows from his mind. He had received the news of the terrorists strikes within Konania two hours ago, and though he knew hardly anything about the nation, the events continued to bother him. ‘Probably because they applied for membership to the SFN just like ourselves… And just like they we seem to be having difficulties as well since that moment… If not as serious as what Konania has to deal with.’ He shook his head grimly.

“No. We don’t suffer as much as they do… And we stand as brethren on the issue of becoming members of the Sisgardian membership. Outlanders they may be, but they disserve aid. Besides, it should put the Empire in a good light amongst the rest of Sisgardia.” The weary emperor sighed again before his lips pulled into a small smirk. “And I have always hated terrorists anyway.”

Eye of the Czandari
The largest newspaper in the Enduring Empire.

Konania: Yesterday morning, Konania, and all of Sisgardia, bared witness to a terrible crime, as terrorists employed over six explosive devices to murder innocent men, women and children. These explosive devices were not placed to attack the military, but rather civilian targets. Current estimates say that over 500 people have died in these horrid events, and the death toll is expected to rise even further due to severely wounded people who are not expected to make it through the night.

Konania has recently, much like the Enduring Empire itself, applied for membership of the Sisgardian Fellowship of Nations. Experts predict that these terrorists strike within the nation may have an adverse effect on Konania’s petition and thusly cause some of the Sisgardian nationship to vote against Konania’s membership.

The Emperor himself has commented to be appalled at these coward’s actions and that he will offer Konania aid in terms of military resources.

Blast Zone -- Tripera -- Konania

As expected, camera crews arrived. The Central Broadcasting Corporation happened to be one of the fastest.

The cameraman stumbled unto the checkpoint that had been set up surrounding the area, flashed his Press card at them, and was allowed to go. He would be the last; an average of six newscrews were able to enter the half kilometer perimeter surrounding each urban blast-zone.

The sight was horrific. The bomb, having been placed under the edge of the building, smashed the front wall upwards before the debris came down on the street below. Papers from inside fluttered around.

The cameraman jogged up to the structure, waiting for his team members catch up. Turning, he slipped, and the camera fell into a pool of blood from the head of a man who had fallen from his smashed black car. A few drips spattered on the lens. Disgusted-- and recording all the same-- he wiped it quickly with his shirt, resulting in red streaks smeared across the image when it was pointed back at the tower.

The video had a catylstic effect, turning a nation's sadness to righteous anger within hours of the event.

Executive Mansion -- Avalon -- Konania

Executive Cordell saw the images. They were being fed to him by the minute from four different sources. For the moment, he wanted to block it all out.

"Sam, where's my wife?" he asked.

"She's at Bailey Aerospace Defense."

"And my--"

"Your children are with her. We took care of that already. Apparently, you were not the target. The people don't hate you that much, yet." Sam Engels attempted to smile and lighten the mood. He failed miserably.

Cordell sat silently for a moment. "What just happened?" he asked, quietly.

Sam shook his head. "Honestly? We don't know, sir. NISAK and Defense say that they didn't see it coming. The KNDF is clueless as to what's up, and Customs is swearing that they wouldn't have let explosives get in."

"Already pointing fingers?" Cordell wondered aloud.

"Mr. Cordell--" not Mr. Executive, Cordell noticed-- "frankly, that is not your concern right now. Nations within Sisgardia have sent their condolences, I suggest you have someone respond to them, sir." Engels touched the palmpad by the door and stepped out.

Transcript of address given by High Edict Spike Spiegal LXXV in response to terrorist attacks on Konania.

Official Response from the government of The Etats-Unis Socialistes of North West Antarctica

Today, a horrible crime has been comitted against our allies, and friends, as well as fellow members of the Sisgardian Fellowship of Nations. We have learned of a terrorist plot on Koania's maglev transit system that has caused hudnreds of deaths. North-West Antarctica is both shocked and appalled at the events that occurred today. We express our deepest sorrow and regret for those lives lost, and commit ourselves to help our friends in any way in their time of dire need. While most of our intra-solar system space activities have been diminishing for some time, we pledge to assist with monetary and any other resources we posess. NWA promises to search with every effort to find the ones responsible. For now, we must grieve, but in the future, we shall punish those who believe terror is an option. I now ask for a moment of silence to honor all those killed in the attacks.
[silence]

We wish Koania all the best, and may all your future days be filled with more happiness than this one.

Some distance from the explosion -- Tripera -- Konania

Further down the road, a bomb containment team found a backpack tossed to the ground. Upon further inspection (much prodding), they discovered that it contained nothing but a small disc. It was put away in a sterile bag, and changed hands multiple times before arriving in the possesion of one who knew what to do with such things.

He put it in the player and listened, awed at what he heard.

Gustav sat in the plane, they were already halfway to Konania. He was new to the job, unlike Natalya, who sat on his side, sleeping... More than one time, he looked after her. Kinda cute...

But he couldn´t really afford starting something with his superior.

In any case... It would be interesting... Although a quick glance out the window almost defied his positive thoughts, the sky being gray, it was raining.

The disc was taken to the Federal Investigation and Forensics Administration, but not before the CBC got its hands on a copy. After about two hours of frantic phone calls and haggling, the CBC finally decided that it simply wasn't worth the effort and agreed not to air the disc.

The recording was rather good quality, and began after a few moments of silence:

"Good afternoon, Konania. I trust you've had an interesting past few days? After such an event, I hoped that we could... chat."

"You see, I've lived in this nation for quite some time. I've seen it grow. I've seen it prosper. I've been told that Konania could do anything, as long as its people speak out and chose their leaders wisely."

"But what, I ask, happens when you speak up and are not heard? I've voted for my entire life; nobody I've trusted has been chosen. Am I not a Konanian? Shouldn't I have a voice? If not, what kind of democracy is this?"

"So, I will speak for those of us whose opinions are unpopular. I think that we need to move further in our foreign policy. I think the world should fear the word Konania like it fears death. Because you wouldn't even consider my opinion, those ten bombs exploded in our cities."

"He's a Konanian," Michelle Eisen said quietly.

Ed Nolan nodded gravely. "Or she. The voice matches nothing, I think it was voice-synthed."

"So, other than that, we have nothing."

"Not really. It reduces this to all the usual suspects. Anarchists and the like. I can run a check on them, get a list if you want, but--" a shrug-- "'S'all I can do. Our friends in Der Angst are sending some people; they should be here soon. We'll probably get some more help later."

Eisen put the recording disc in again, replaying it. She stopped it every few seconds, looking for details she had first ignored while Nolan typed up the transcript.

Charles Tenley had been working for the Solaris Regional Highway Patrol for a few years now, and knew when something was wrong with a driver. They always switched lanes really quickly, and seemed to look into the mirror far too often. For this reason-- and the fact that the liscense plates were should have been re-registered three years ago-- Tenley pulled the truck over. With this, he discovered that the driver's liscense was out of date as well.

The driver was oddly edgy about the whole thing, and, acting on a hunch, Tenley asked to look in the back. The driver said yes, and Tenley walked around to the back. There the bed was sagged as if something heavy had been set there. When Tenley asked... the driver bolted. Unfortunatly, Charles Tenley, former high school track star, was faster.

And so, Michael Eaton, the Tripera bomber, yet only one of seven, was caught.

As the message was already being transferred , the supplies and units that Tarakalar would send to Konania were being prepared for the trip to the foreign nation, to the Tarakalarians this matter was more then just aiding Konania, it would be the first time in centuries that government forces and aid would be given to a foreign nation.

Fifth apostle and her sereneness Elisa Hortsvelt, descendent of the Dutch colonists that arrived nearly forgotten number of centuries ago, and head of the local outpost of the Quoan’dal est Ure, more commonly known as the Church of Illumination, watched the most hot news topics flicker by on the television.

She had hoped there would have been more news on the terrorist strikes within Konania but rather unsurprisingly despite all the attention the government seemed to give to the matter, the media was more interested in internal matters.

“Pity.” Giving an exasperated sigh, she turned the television off with a press of a button and ran her hand through her short millimetered hair. “Ah well, there are other ways to learn more of the matter.” Standing up, she brushed some imaginary dust from the dark crimson robes that she wore, metal decorations hanging from her belt make soft musical sounds as she walked calmly through the halls that lead from her chamber to the central chamber of worship. She would simply use some of the Church’s resources to learn more about this matter within Konania and ofcourse the missionaries that she had ordered to head to the clearly troubled nation.

It would be good to go to a nation that was far less likely to be paranoid about a monotheistic belief, and help to establish good relations with whomever would turn out to the Konananian government after all this was over. The Church’s resources were far from limited to mere good will and blessings.

Something that hopefully they could prove to whichever side was most worthy...

Gustav and Natalya arrived a bit late, the (as usual) bad weather over DA kinda slowing them down.

But in the end, their plane, a small subsonic transporter for the upper classes, arrived, just to be taken to FIFA, quickly, efficient. Something Angstians rarely did, at least not in this kind of business...

They´re odd, aren´t they? Natalya chuckled lightly.
Well... a bit, but then, I guess it means they`re also efficient.
Meh... Well, true, that. You know, the one to the right...
Oh, shut up.

Again, Natalya chuckled, watching Konania through the windows, until they arrived at FIFA.

"'Michael Eaton. Thirty four years of age. Believed dead; Family said he was missing three years ago, soon after he started reading antifederal...'" A pause. "'Antifederal', is that a word?" Eisen asked.

"No, just keep going," Nolan said.

"...Antifederal material."

"So, we've found a dead man who hates the government." Another pause. "With a large truck, like the one reported leaving the scene. With an imprent in the back. So he might have been involved in these recent bombings."

"We figured that he couldn't have done it alone; there's only one imprint in the back. He's gotta be associated with somebody."

"Did you question him?" Nolan inquired.

"Yes. He isn't talking." Which didn't help them at all at this point. The door opened, and both looked up, eyes looking over the newcomers, searching for a security clearance. "Who's this? Kev, civvies can't come in here--"

"These are the representatives from Der Angst. They just flew in a few minutes ago; 'tis a good thing they did, there's a storm coming in the next few hours, I hear. The skyport might close for a bit later."

"Thanks for the welcome. Now... We have been briefed about the whole matter, well, roughly. What we would need to know... First of all, any suspects? Second, any new developments, thirdly, possible targets in the near future?"

Here she stopped, and Gustav continued. "And, most importantly, possible threats for other Sisgardian nations. The victims of the hotel bomb were a... considerable warning." He hesitates. "Besides, there is one more thing... I`m sure you know about our physical structure... Are scans of suspected citizens possible? To find out more. If possible, with their consent, if not..." Nolan wasn't worried. DA was an ally, after all, and it was good to have two extra minds to bounce ideas off of. "One suspect, nationalist. Strange fellow, he hasn't said a word since we brought him in here. He's a citizen." Nolan shrugged. "If he opened his mouth, we might have some more for you."

Eisen raised a worried eyebrow. "It's possible, yes. And usually illegal without consent." She paused a moment, contemplating something. "Well, illegal outside this room." A lot of rules had been bent over the years; she had bent enough of them herself to know that FIFA wasn't as concerned about rights of the accused as it was about finding whoever did it.

At this point, Nolan's beeper went off. He reached down and disabled it, not bothering to look at the number. Probably just another reporter...

"I'm sure," Eisen replied. "Cell's right out the door. He'll probably be exactly as I left him."

The "cell" wasn't standard; FIFAHQ had not been built with this single purpose in mind, so only high-profile suspects were kept here. It was rather empty, but had the feeling of a college dormitory-- A bed, a desk, a small toilet, and a bookshelf. Eisen had been right: Eaton was still sitting on the bed, rocking back and forth. His hands were flat on his lap, and his eyes staring forward toward the floor. He didn't seem to have noticed them enter.

Heh... It isn´t supposed to be, I guess.

"Good day." Natalya said, standing in front of Eaton. "I`m Natalya Mitsuki, this is Gustav Gruber. We`re from soldats, department for external security." She hesitated, waiting for some kind of reaction from Eaton. There was none.

Not of the talkative kind, is he?
Not really, no... Well, it doesn´t matter, does it?
True

"We want to know... well, anything. Your superiors, contacts, comrades."
"Leader, aims, ressources." Gustav continued.
"And stuff." finished Natalya.

Still, there was no answer.

Natalya smirked "Of course, we don´t like... verbal communication. So, we would... like to peer a bit into your head. But for that..."
"We would like to have your... consent." Gustav finished. He smiled. "It doesn`t hurt. Much."

Eaton made no verbal response. Instead, he lay down on the bunk and closed his eyes.

'This won't hurt' is something parents say to their children at a doctor's office, Nolan recalled. In his experience, it was never true.

"Do note, that can be considered a 'yes'," Eisen murmered quietly, yet loudly enough for all in the room to hear. Whatever they were going to do, it had to be rather effective for these two to assume that it would work where Konania's... "extraction specialists" had failed.
Der Angst

Natalya smiled. It looked a bit threatening, though. "Well... Very cooperative."

She removed her black glove, her small, white hand, looking almost like snow, showing her surprisingly fine features. With her hand, she touched Eatons forehead, her sensitive nervous system, her fingers, intensifying the contact.

Then the current run through her head, through her head, her fingers... the electromagnetic field extended itself, left her body, grew larger than she was...

Open your eyes.

Suddenly, Eaton opened his eyes, his eyes expressing fear. He struggled against her... not with his body, she had already taken over his nervous system, rendering him helpless. But still...

His mind raced.

Don´t fear it.

He struggled against her, his mind being fairly strong... She hated this. It always took ages to break one`s mind. Of course, she could read his surface thoughts, but that was useless, they didn`t include the information she wanted.

Suddenly, she felt something, a hole in his defences... She attacked him, he struggled against her, he had to break somewhere.

And this was it.

She entered it, expanded it, attacking his remainign defences from all sides...

I won.

She wasn`t sure if he had heard, or rather, sensed her, but she said, or rather, send it, anyway.

His defences were down, she controlled him, could see everything... His first night with a woman, how he failed it. His father, screaming at him. His mother, crying. His first time being drunk.

They`re all the same...

With that, she finally entered his memory, and begun searching for the data she wanted...

It would take a while, it was basically like working in a giant archive full of useless paperwork, millions of pages, searching for the ten pages one actually needed...

But she had time.

Nolan watched with a sense of awe. Whatever she was doing-- and he hadn't the slightest idea what it was-- was working, beautifully. "Michelle, what's she doing," he whispered quietly.

Eisen shook her head. "How far can she go?"

"Most people use only about ten percent of their brains, still, one would assume, it's a lot of stuff to page through.

"So, this might take a bit of time," she whispered in reply.

"Maybe the fact that it was recent will help? I don't know."

Captain Jennifer Webster, a commercial pilot for the international carrier AirKonania, took off from an airport far away on her way home from a trip around the region of Sisgardia. Everything onboard was noted by the pilot and the crew and logged as "Routine".

[Things to note... he would know where he's from (Pandoroq) and is working for Stalzer. He wouldn't know who did any other explosions, or what else might happen.]

[ooc: Since it was your guy, I wanted you to tell me what Natalya finds out, anyway ,)]

Ah... there it is.

Finally, she had found it. the next moment, Eaton screamed in pain, when she ripped his memories out of him, copying them...

Then she was out.

"And?" Gustav asked, slightly concerned about her.
"Have it." Natalya smiled. "As always." Next, she turned towards the Konanians. "In any case... This is what I got..."

And with that, she begun talking to them, about Pandoroq, about Stalzer... All she knew. All Eaton had known.

"That was... disturbing. Effecient, yes, but... disturbing."

"See why we require consent, eh?"

On the way back from the cell, Eisen scribbled on her datapad, ignoring Eaton's health for the moment. "Where the heck is this place?"

"Foothills of the Canterras Mountains somewhere, I'm not sure. This Stazler guy, I'm guessing he's there too. Um." She paused for a moment. "I can punch in a call to NISAK, see if they can get some sats on this place."

The storm was a fast-forming one, swirling over the sea as it pressed to the east.
