NS Global Golf Tour - the show moves to The Holy Saints
Kaze Progressa

After an abortive attempt last year, this year sees the revival of the Global Golf Tour!
For those new to the idea, or even if you're not... it works like this.
Signup on this thread. You can provide players, a tournament, or (preferably) both. If you are providing players (up to a maximum of four for each nation), please give the names of each and scores out of 10 in the following six skills, with a maximum of 36 across all six (note edit from 35, it was a typo):
Driving
Iron Play
Short Game
Recovery
Putting
Nerves
If you are hosting a tournament, please give the name of your tournament and course, the par for the 18 holes (typically 72, though a significant minority are par 70 or 71 and a few are par 73 or 74) and the two skills of the six above that are most useful on the course.
The Progressan signup below should be used as a model.
Results are generated randomly using a spreadsheet based upon the skills of player and the demands of the course; testing has not yet been completed, so no details of the formula are yet being revealed. There are four rounds in each tournament, two rounds' of results posted a day, and there is no halfway cut as is usually the case IRL.
Prize money for each tournament is based on the following prize money from an IRL tournament, (http://www.europeantour.com/Tournaments/fullreport.sps?iTourNo=2004012&id=1097769) with the following modifiers:
1. The money is assumed to be in US$. Obviously, this is a simplifying assumption.
2. The following bonuses will be applied depending upon the strength of the economy of the nation hosting the event, as checked on the final day of the previous event:
Imploded: -10%
Basket Case: no modifier
Struggling, Weak: +10%
Developing, Fair: +20%
Reasonable, Good: +25%
Strong: +30%
Very Strong, Thriving: +40%
Powerhouse, All-Consuming: +50%
Frightening: +75%
(Note: the schedule will be determined as signups occur)
3. There will be provisionally 64 players (not the 72 listed here) and each enters every event. This may change depending upon signup rate.

Overview
Hole 1-LongshotPar 3Opening on a long drive, over the course lake towards the forrests. Hit the ball to hard and you'll end up in the bunker directly ahead, don't get enough power and you're going to be fishing for your ball. The cut grass switches immediatley to very long grasses, leaving a difficult opener at only 17ft wide. After the drive players find themselves negotiating a sloping area, with a large bunker at the base of the slight gradient. 50 yards from the dip is the green, which lies in a small bowl making for an easy put.
Hole 2-Do the TwistPar 4A straight forward hole, although the conventional route does twist alot. The common route straight over the top is not without danger though, as the long grasses and light woodland can cause trauma for any player who doesn't hit a perfect shot into the green. The green itself is a difficult put, on a 12 degree gradient making it nescessery to put first time. Failing this a player will find themselves at the base of the gradient, possibly rolling towards the lake.
Hole 3-Days at the BeachPar 6 A difficult hole to negotiate, laden with bunkers and water features. From the drive the player must use the wind to their advantage and draw the ball right across the lake as it loops through the hole. The ideal spot to place the ball is on the island where the lake goeas round. After a chip shot over the grassy knoll players can play a long shot and risk the large bunker which curls arround the green, or play two shots on the way attempting to avoid ay obsatcles. The green itself is simple and flat and makes for easy putting.
I shall do the next 15 holes later.

Course Outlook:
Hole No/Par/Distance to hole (yards)
1/4/425 - Long hill at the start of hole, distance of hill is included in total hole distance. Bunker to right of green.
2/5/511 - Two ponds on either side of the green, a bunker behind, and a stream cutting across the hole.
3/4/328 - Rough terrain common.
4/3/200 - Easiest hole, many aces common
5/4/422
6/4/349 - Bunkers all over.
7/3/178 - Bushes block sides of green.
8/3/164
9/5/531 - Another par 5, similar to second hole. Bunker thirty yards in front of green.
Front 9/35/3108
10/5/500 - Must negotiate long fairway, with rough on either side. Out of bounds roughly 35 yards either side of fairway.
11/4/361 - Fairway split by same stream which cuts through second and ninth holes. No bunker, however, which helps the player.
12/5/472 - Series of fairways, rough terrain, bunkers, drop areas and out ofbounds. Most difficult hole to negotiate, despite relative length to Hole 2.
13/3/188 - One of only 2 Par 3s of Back nine, fairly easy.
14/5/511 - Green surrounded by water, an overhit shot will result in drop ball. Stream also cuts Hole 14.
15/3/177 - Relatively short, but difficulty of hole is high. From tee, players are adviced not to hit a long shot, but instead hit the ball short. Fairway swings left, then back right. Adventurous players might try the long tee shot for the ace.
16/4/327 - Stream which cut 4 previous holes cuts its final hole here.
17/4/322
18/4/283
Back 9/37/3141
Course/72/6249 yards

The April 19 deadline still stands. With 31 golfers and eight tournaments, it's looking like a nice little tour already. I may allow people to run two tournaments, so that the tour's a decent length - but there's already quite a lot of golfers which is encouraging.

I've decided to allow two tournaments per nation, not one. However, additional tournaments are judged as 'secondary' tournaments, and prize funds are 30% lower than that of your primary tournament. The four-golfer limit stands.
The secondary Progressan event will be the Cheese Valley Open, at the Cheese Valley Country Club, Frizkao (par 72, key skills; driving and short game)

Brazillico's Course(s)
Course: Cordova Palms Golf and Country Club
Event: Brazillico Open
Par: 71
Yards: 6382
Key Skills: Iron Play, Short Game
Only one word can describe this course; tight. Renowned for it's tiny greens, dense rough and palm lined, narrow fairways, accuracy at Cordova Palms is a must. This is a course where the wise will keep the driver in the bag for the round and the undisciplined will throw it into the woods after the first tee.
In case there's a need for a second tournament.
Course: Santalucia Golf Club
Event: Santalucia Supercup
Par: 72
Yards: 7037
Key Skills: Putting, Nerves
Known as one of Brazillico's premier coastal golf clubs, Santalucia is home to the annual Santalucia Supercup. Some of Santalucia's most poignant features are its large, wildly undulating greens, and vast, rolling fairways. Putting it in the rough isn't that big a concern at Santalucia, rather it's trying to stay out of its many, deep bunkers and the sea. Failing to do so may turn your golfing experience into a not-so-relaxing day at the beach.
PLAYERS:
President Tim Larson(Driving 5, Iron Play 6, Short Game 6, Recovery 6, Putting 6, Nerves 7)-that's right...our president is so interested in the tour that he's going to play on it himself, and he's not a bad golfer either
Mary Moore(Driving 4, Iron Play 7, Short Game 7, Recovery 4, Putting 6, Nerves 8)
Jason Carter(Driving 4, Iron Play 5, Short Game 6, Recovery 6, Putting 8, Nerves 7)-he's the brother of soccer star forward Kelly Carter Larson
Anne Toon(Driving 3, Iron Play 6, Short Game 7, Recovery 6, Putting 7, Nerves 7)
TOURNAMENT: The Praying2God Open(par 70, key skills: recovery and putting)-This course is completely made up of holes with narrow fairways lined with thick rough and dense forests, it doesn't help that there is water in play on 9 of the 18 holes and sand on just about every hole. If you're going to contend here, you're going to need to keep the ball in play and make your putts. Even par is an excellent score on this course.
Why does this sort of thing always seem to happen to me???

I would like to introduce the second competition to be held in GMM.
Introducing the Palace Springs open..
The course is situated outside the Empress's royal home at Tatana

GOLFIN’ ‘CROSS BRAZILLICO
With your host: Tim Suarez
Tim: Hi, I’m Tim Suarez and today I’ll be playing at one of the jewels of Brazillico’s southern coast, Cordova Palms. The historic Cordova Palms was created in 1947, by W.H. Hubaloo, who thought a golf course would be a nice addition to his resort. Well, 57 short years later, Cordova Palms Golf Course is almost more of an attraction than the Hubaloo Hotel and I have to say it’s a joy and a privilege to play on such a fine course. Joining me today is the Professional at Cordova Palms, Kai Koltsov. It’s a pleasure to meet you Kai.
Kai: The pleasure’s all mine.
Tim: We’re about to tee off Cordova Palms’ first hole, care to talk about it for a bit?
Kai: Well, Cordova Palms opens up with a 417 yard par 4. 275 yards down the fairway lie two bunkers on each side of the fairway and it’s a 300 yard carry to clear them.
Tim: It doesn’t look too wide around those bunkers.
Kai: It’s only 11 yards wide, so many players elect to use a 3-wood or 2-iron to lay up before.
Tim: Alright Kai, well I’ll let you tee it up and show me how it’s done.
Kai pulls out a two-iron and smokes one down the center of the fairway, leaving himself with about 150 yards to the hole. Tim elects to use a 3-wood for his drive and hooks it into the rough, about at the same height of Kai’s ball.
Tim: This rough is deep! I can barely see my ball.
Kai: That’s correct. One of the features of Cordova Palms is that it challenges the player to keep it in the fairway. Finding yourself in the second cut often spells bogey or worse.
Tim: Well I like the line I have to the pin, so I’m gonna try to run it up to the hole.
Kai: I’d really recommend that you laid up.
Tim takes a swing at the ball, hits it fat and the ball flies about 30 yards into the fairway bunker straight ahead of him.
Tim: Right you were.
Skipping ahead to the 6th hole…
Tim: Now Kai, this has to be the signature hole on this course. A short little 140 yard par 3 with three deep bunkers guarding a false-fronted green and the sea in the background.
Kai: Yes, this is definitely one of the most picturesque holes on the course, but don’t be fooled by its length or it’s beauty, it’s a real bitch.
Tim: Yeah, for a seaside course, we don’t really get to see much of the sea.
Kai: Very true, Mr. Hubaloo wanted to maintain the coastline for the rest and relaxation of the tourists. That’s why only three holes find themselves on the coast and that’s what gives Cordova Pines that real inland feel.
Tim: Well you have the honour, how about you show us how it’s done?
Kai steps up and knocks a high 8-iron up in the air, the ball lands 20 feet from the pin and spins back a bit towards the hole.
Tim: Nice shot, let’s see if I can get inside that.
Tim pulls out his 7-iron and hits the ball up in the air.
Tim: Get up!
The balls lands on the fringe and funnels back down the false front. After the ball has stopped moving, the ball finds itself thirty yards from the pin.
Tim: We’ll cut that from the show? Yeah. I think so.
Flashing forward to the eleventh.
Tim: We’ve just made the turn and find ourselves facing the Par 5 11th. This hole is only 512 yards from the back tees, but let me tell you, it looks a lot longer than that.
Kai: As most Brazillicans knows, Cordova was built upon many hills. Right now, we’re going up on of them.
Tim: Exactly how far up is the green from where we’re standing?
Kai: The green is 112 feet above the back tees.
Tim: So it’s no small feet to reach this par 5 in two?
Kai: Not at all, the green is only eighteen paces wide and is hidden by a sharp dogleg left and a grove of palms. The popular play here is to lay it up to the end of the dogleg, 50 yards away, and just pitch it onto the green from there, although some of the longer hitters may be able to just fly the ball onto the green.
Tim: Well let’s see what all the fuss is about, Kai, you still have the honours.
Kai smokes a long, high fade, about 300 yards down the fairway. Tim also chooses driver, and puts it about 285 yards down the fairway in the first cut.
Tim: Watch this as I hit this challenging green in two.
Tim takes out his five-wood and slugs it for everything he’s got. It’s solidly hit, but hits a palm tree square on and settles down in the grove.
Tim: I bet it’s a hard up and down from there.
Kai: Sure is, that’s Out of Bounds.
Tim: What!? Those pine trees were right in between me and the green and I was lined up on the right side of the fairway.
Kai: That’s why the popular play is to lay up.
And finally, to the 18th hole.
Tim: Well this is simply a majestic closing hole, a 430 yard Par 4 with Lake Morenz on the left and dense brush in the right. We’ve both been fortuitous enough to place our tee shots in the fairway and now we’re going to try to put it on the green with water to the left and front of it. Kai, is that cobblestone I see around the green by the water?
Kai: Indeed, all the fairways and greens at Cordova Palms on the shore of Lake Morenz are elevated above the water by two feet thanks to stonewalls. It eliminates the chance of someone getting lucky and skipping one across the water and onto dry land.
Tim: Well there go my chances. Winks at camera.
Tim pulls out the six-iron and plays a fantastic shot, landing it in the centre of the green, 15 feet away from the cup.
Kai: Splendid shot!
Tim: Thanks! I knew I’d hit at least one all round.
Kai shoots a high, draw into the green, placing it almost in an identical place as Tim’s, just two inches closer to the cup. Both would go on to two-putt their balls and shake hands.
Tim: Well Kai, it’s been a lot of fun. Thanks for showing me around your lovely course.
Kai: It was a blast for me too. Now how about we head over to the clubhouse so you can pay me that steak dinner?
Tim: *Forced laughter*Uhhh.. what?
Kai: Remember at the beginning of the round, you said we were playing for lunch, and I believe my 73 bests your 92.
Tim: Haha, yeah. Look! Someone’s trying to steal one of the stones from that wall!
Kai turns around to see what the commotion is about.
Tim: SCATTER!
Tim and the camera man jog towards the BSN van, jump in and cheese it; leaving behind a fun day of golf, loads of great memories and a hungry Kai behind at Cordova Palms.

Sorry, that isn't realistic. It is extremely rare to find a par 73, and I can't remember ever seeing anything higher. It was a creative idea though.

But it is a Par 73!
But it is a Par 73!
That joke was too lame to be called corny. It would probably even cause a King  to throw out his court jester, if not behead him, or at least send him into exhile in Kingschevy  . Okay, I'll admit that that attempt at a joke was just as lame as your attempt, but I never have been able to tell a joke. I get more laughs for saying that I'm not funny than I do for any joke I tell.
The Socialist Union of Kerla will host the Kerlan Sun Championship. It is a 71 par and the skills needed are short play and recovery.

Brazillico Golf Review
An OK Start to the tour for Brazillicans
The Sport Progressa International Masters kicked off the NationStates Golf Tour and all Brazillicans got off to a solid start, with all four players on tour cracking the top 20. That being said, no one really had a breakout tournament as no one cracked the top 10.
Brazillico's best in Taquizerr was Tony Fellatio, who used a big Sunday to launch up the leaderboard. Tony began the final round at even par, but a solid back nine thanks to some flawless putting saw him snake up to -3 by days end, landing him in a tie for 13th.
Another Brazillican who got off to a slow start but eventually found his legs was Paco Santos. Paco had the worst round of all of everyone on Thursday with a +4(75), but came back with three rounds under par to put himself in the thick of things. By tournament's end, some strong ball striking saw Paco finish in a tie for 16th.
Bringing up the rear for Brazillican was Phil Fortillico and Junior Rivaldo[/b]. After a rather lacklustre start to the tournament, Phil put up a -4(67) on the final day. Phil thought the Gateway Bay Links really matched his eye, and showed what he was capable of on the final day. On the flipside of the coin, Junior Rivaldo was the portrait of consistancy, never straying +/-1 for the round for every day. Both men finished in 20th and got wallets which got heavier by $10,327.50.

If you're confused at the prize money, it's all explained on the first post. Jiggady at present has a Fair economy (or did when I checked), so the bonus is +20% from that listed on the link (which has a total prize fund of €600,000, which is then turned into $ for the purpose of this tour).

Nick Waldo was on stunning form going under par in all four rounds to claim joint second with tour leader Phyllis Belmore.
Nick Waldo: "I got off to a great start during the final round, birdies on second, fourth and fifth really set me off charging up the leader board. I was a bit unlucky at the 10th when I landed in the bunker and ended up getting a double bogie. I managed to get the early momentum back on the final holes though, birdying the 16th, 17th and just missing out on the 18th by a couple of inches. I’m glad I managed a good showing because there are a couple of tough events coming up for me. I just need to keep on the top of my game."

Ernie Eels suffered his biggest disappointment to date with 3 rounds over par finishing on a whooping +7, 15 shots behind the winner.
Ernie Eels: I really don't want to talk about it. Everything that could go wrong did. I've spent more time in the water than on the fairway. I just want to go home and forget this ever happened.
"Yes Nancy, I am quite pleased with my perfomance so far in the world golf tour. Being third on the money list is a total shock to me, with the calliber of players that are in the field. But I have been playing with determination, I am out here to show the world that women can play and can compete with the men."
"Sir Louis Drake, what do you have to say about your play?"
"Nancy, I feel that I have been playing slightly below my usual capabilities but whatever happens I say let it be. I am quite pleased with my performance at the recent match in Jiggady, sure I have been playing the course for years and was on the commitee to designe it but I feel that there was an even playing field all around. I am most happy to see how well all of the players from Jiggady are doing in the tournament, even Edward RedBeard has managed to keep his temper in check to play at a moderate level."
"And finally today, any comments from you Mr. RedBeard? I know your play has been up and down as usuall."
"Arrrrg, well Nancy I feel that I am in a fine position thusfar in the tournament. As long as I keep my emotions in check and dont get kicked out of any matches I have a good feeling about the rest of the year."
"Well thank you all for joining us today on the JNN special presentation of the NS World Golf Tour, good luck to all of you when the tournament picks up again."
