XMoTransportation to redesign planetary transportation.

The Xanthalian Minister of Transportation announced today that the Ministry will be undertaking a total redesign of planetary transportation over the next ten years. Citing a dramatic and continuing increase in the nation's population since Xanthal's public transportation system was first designed, Clarence Threms reported that the current system of hovertrains that span each Xanthalian planet will be unable to support their load in only twenty years. "The research is clear, and action must be taken. The Xanthalian Ministry of Transportation has not faced a task of this scale since our current system was designed four hundred years ago, but I am confident that, with the help of the Ministry of Development, we are up to the task." Xanthal's transportation system has recieved only comparitively minor upgrades and extentions since it was last rebuilt, and over the past five years the system has already begun to show signs of strain. However, rather than continuing the trends of the past and building a new train system, Threms has put forth a plan raking the Ministry in an entirely new direction.
"Facing the fact that expanding our train network further would be both unnecessarily costly and necessitate the demolishing of many perfectly good buildings, I have submitted to the Ministry of Development, and they have approved, a plan to implement an entirely new system for general use," said the Minister in his press release. "Transporter technology has been available to us for over one thousand years, and has been well used on small scales by many organizations. My ministry will change that. Over the next ten years, we will build and link a planetary transportation system made up almost exclusively of Transporters. First on Aellis Five, then working outward, within the time I have stated we will shut down most of our current train lines and implement the new system. In doing so, we will virtually eliminate transit time for hundreds of millions of Xanthalian citizens. Once the system is built, it will only cost a fraction of what our current system does to maintain."
Threms went on to explain the system in detail which, by all accounts, seems to be sound. He confirmed that all major train lines would be maintained to serve as an auxilliary transit system in times of emergency. The Minister of Development later said that "...the plan has [his] full approval and the Ministry of Development will be working with the Ministry of Transportation throughout the entire process."
The Triumvirate has already approved the redistribution of funding to cover the project, drawing $1 trillion annually from the government reserves.
