Mercia, Rukemia
The sprawling capital city of the Rukemian Empire bustled with life as people went about their business performing daily task within what most would call a concrete jungle. The enormous mega-city spread over a 56 mile radius and contained an ever-busy population of 48 million people, making it the largest city in Rukemia and one of the larger cities of the world. Although the city had its problems, over crowding was not one of them, mainly because as the city's population grew, the city itself would continued to grow, new homes and apartment high rises were constantly added on to the city's boundaries in an effort to keep its inhabitants comfortable. Historical sites and monuments littered Mercia's insides most were built to keep Rukemians aware of their history and others were built in honor of those soldiers that lost their lives in one of many Rukemian wars. The newest and largest of the monuments was the one of the current President, Lakato Vaul, who lead a coup against the Old Republic several years ago, and brought upon Rukemia a new age of democracy and prosperity. Looking at the city from above during nightime when all the lights were activated was simply amazing, the collage of both moving and stationary lights created a beautiful image of man-made structures blending together to form a tight-nit network in which Rukemian citizens strived.
No one could describe the city's nightscape better than President Lakato Vaul that night, as he peered out of his private helicopter and looked at the spectacular view of the city below. God it's good to be back, it's been so long since I've seen the city like this. He turned his head away from the window and settled back into his seat, he looked at his Vice President who sat beside him, the Vice President sat still and almost seemed to be at attention as usual, with his hands on his knees and his head straight forward. President Lakato chuckled to himself lightly, "Y'know, Adrian, you don't always have to be so stiff, we're not going to a parliament meeting, we're going to a party, why don't you lighten up a little bit, I haven't seen you look at the city once since we've gotten off the ground."
"Well, Lakato, I don't want to come off as too lax when our guests arrive, they've really done us a big favor here, we had no one else to turn to and they agreed to house our government during the war. If we would've remained here, there's a good chance we'd all be dead. The least we can do is impress them with our respect."
"Look, Adrian, I respect how you're viewing this and all, but once the alliance with Emina is made official, I plan on having a good time. It's just our third day back in Rukemia after almost a year in Emina, so loosen up. If they should be impressed by anything it should be our food......look, we're almost there, time to eat!"
The Vice President cracked a smile and shook his head slightly at the President's excitement. The pilot slowly lowered the helicopter towards the ground until they had succesffuly landed in the street, directly in front of the capital building, where the banquet of appreciation was to be held. The street they landed in had been blocked from any incoming traffic and now the barracades that had been put in place were being swarmed by civilians who waved Rukemian flags and chanted "Lakato!" frantically as if he were some kind of rockstar. President Lakato climbed out of the Helicopter and waved at his people, who cheered wildly at the sight of him, next came Vice President Adrian and lastly, the entourage of bodyguards who swept around the Vice President and President's sides, front and rear. The bodyguards ushered the two inside the up the steps and inside the building away from the screaming fans.
Lakato caught his breath once inside, "Wow, they're really glad to see us back, huh? I don't understand how they knew we were coming here...surely they don't know about Emina's part in the war?"
"The media has it's way of spreading these things around, they probably knew you were coming here, but not the reason behind it. Don't worry, nothing's been leaked about Emina, I made sure of that. Of course, the tabloids might have their suspicions and guesses, but rest assured none will come close to what's really going on."
The President looked relieved, he Emina had never made it clear if they wanted people to know that they had given political haven to Rukemia's leaders, it was only polite to think that they didn't.
"Well..", said the President, "Let's go check out how the decorations are going in the banquet hall, I hop they've already set the food out."
The President removed his heavy leather trenchcoat and handed it to one of his bodyguards, the Vice President did the same. Both were wearing almost identical navy blue formal suits, even though the dress of the banquet was casual they insisted on wearing suits. They headed down the main hall of the building until they reached the elevator, The President pressed up and they stepped inside where they were lifted to 67th floor where the banquet was to be held. When the metal elevator doors pulled themselves aside, the President's eyes widened with joy, the decorations were great, delicate ice sculptures were scattered across the large hall in a neat line from the front to the back, and around their bases were platters of exotic Rukemian foods, the most of exotic of all being the giant honey bun. Most sculptures depicted Rukemian animals, the most amusing being Along the walls were wine racks which held aged wines exclusive to Rukemian leaders and their guests of the evening.
On either side of the flamboyant ice scupltures were dozens of round tables, each with a 3-digit number on top, matching the number that guests would be assigned once they arrived. Towards the front of the hall was a large stage covered with red carpet, a podium had been set up and there were a row of chairs positioned behind it. On either side of the stage was both an Eminan and Rukemian flag side by side, hoisted up on golden flag poles which nearly touched the ceiling. Behind the stage was a large window which took up the entire wall and allowed a magnificent view of Mercia, one could see all of the skyscrapers from this view, and the lights seemed to go on forever.
A larger table was placed in the middle of the hall, there was no number on this table and it donned a red cloth with intricate designs while the others donned blue cloth, it was obvious the leaders of both parties were meant to sit here. To the left of the main stage was a smaller black platform, where what appeared to be a jazz band, were tuning up. All around the walls were Rukemian soldiers, who stood at attention in formal wear. Not many people had arrived yet, only key members of the parliament and General Victor, who sat on stage with a grim look on his face, as usual.
All in all the President was pleased with the way things looked, he was more than sure that his guests would appreciate all they had gone through. All that was left for him and his Vice President to do was wait for their guests to arrive, their means of transportation was unknown but they had been given a time of arrival. The president walked towards the stage and waved at General Victor who was already seated, the General nodded back and the president continued up the stage and took a seat next to Victor, Vice President Adrian sat on the other side of Lakato, wearing a serious look on his face. The General and President shook hands and made small talk while the guests slowly filled up the hall and took their seats, each going up to the stage and shaking hands with the President once they were situated.
The guests were expected to sit on stage near the President, when everyone was seated the President would make a speech, thanking Emina for its support and then everyone would be cleared to begin eating. The leaders of both parties would be served first and they would relocate from the stage, down towards the red table that was specially placed for them, once the food was served the leaders were expected to converse casually and listen to the soft tunes of the jazz band. Gradually things would wind down and eventually the banquet would end, simple plan, simple party. The President smiled and looked on at the food before him, damn it looked delicious.
