Introduction of Langley-class Science Vessel (56k Suicide)

Weapons of war continue to cruise the galaxy for the Empire of Foe Hammer. We do this to compensate for being abused, raided, invaded, as a young, weak nation. Now, we set out sites on productive efforts- understanding the everlasting question, "Why are we here, what is our purpose, and what is the average velocity of an African Swallow?"
Foe Hammer has cut off all international contact to focus on more productive efforts, and technological advancements.

During this exile, we have changed out the Fusion engines on many of our smaller vessels, upgrading to more effective, less power-consuming systems. The shiny new T-904 Fission Reactors on small Foe Hammer vessels have an operating power approximately three times larger than that available from the most energetic chemical reactions, and with the massive reduction in fissionable material consumption, these engines have proven to be more efficient than the standard Fusion engines previously employed by small Foe Hammer vessels. Though the specific impulse has been reduced to half of the original Fusion power, it is a cheaper, less complex system. Speific details have been classified.

Now, on to the real reason of this announcement. As stated above, Foe Hammer is now focusing on the more important questions. To accomplish this task, designers and engineers have been entangled in an ongoing melee over system designs, functions, and other small details. Finally, designers and engineers compromised on a final design, to be christened the Langley-class Science Vessel.

[And, in standard tradition, the part of the thread for people who hate to read.]

(The first person to correctly identify what that vessel was modeled after will get a cookie. The first person to identify who/what Langley is will also get a cookie.)

Looks like a funky version of the Omega Class Destroyer.

I'll give you one hint.

"All These Worlds Are Yours Except Europa. Use Them Together. Use Them In Peace."

That hint will help you guess the movie it's from, but I want the name of the thing that that vessel is modeled after.

I know the movie:

2010: Odyssey 2

As for its base.. I have no idea.

How about the unmanned science ship that NASA plans to send to jupiter to search its moons, checking for the possibility they may support life?

Yes, that is the movie, but can you tell me which ship from 2010 resembles the ship posted above?

And for a bonus cookie, who/what is Langley?

Langley is the site of the US CIA headquarters, but I don't know if that's what you're looking for.

And for a bonus cookie, who/what is Langley?Either an Eva reference or that guy who got absorbed into the Monolyth.

Do I get that cookie? :)

Nope, Langley is the site of the CIA headquarters, but that's not what I'm looking for. Hint: Physicist

Resi, Nope, no cookie, but you're in the right movie.

"You'll be going aboard the Alexei Leonov."

"I thought it was called the Titov."

"Eh, he fell out of favor, Doctor Floyd."
* - * - *

Samuel Langley: Physicist accredited with determining that the problem of flight consisted primarily of finding a form of onboard propulsion powerful enough to move the craft and light enough to make the effort worthwhile.

A NASA research center is named after him.

Aye!
The Cap'n steps in to save the day. Two cookies are en route to your head of state.

The Langley-class was modeled after the Alexei Leonov from 2010: The Year We Make Contact, and I ran out of names to use so I did some research and decided to name it after a physicist.
