[Duat, a minor city]

The Genetics Research Laboratory was one of the few that had been supplied with necrontyr technology thus far. The place was actually quite secure, run by a corporation, Genetechic Inc with a 60% Government share, it was also considered secure. Which was quite helpful. A display, hovering in the air above a phantom keypad - holographic keys that recorded when broken, and even supplied minimal tactile resistance, and interpreted it intelligently to define the input, changed. It flashed a single set of English words amid a sea of arcane symbols representing large and complex protein groups. It read:

[code:1:53197ebc3b]Optimal Combination for Given Traits, Defined. Hybrid Genetic Template Sequence: State Next Action[/code:1:53197ebc3b]

Certain deficiencies in the species' genetic template had caused many problems in the past. Helpfully though, the appearance of a certain other species, who had the precise genetic codes needed to rectify these problems, and who were present in the empire as the second largest segment of the population. The nation's title would soon become appropriate.

Perhaps it was a little guilt on behalf of the Emperor. He had made the species in question extinct long ago, and whether he had always planned to create an improved version, or whether this was something new to his plans, was unknown to all but him.

An elf dressed in long flowing robes walked up to the screen. He smiled, and looked over at the woman behind him, "Excellent," he said, hands flying over the keypad with practiced ease.

[One Year Later]

The crèche was quiet, the various newborn baby necrontyr were not as boisterous as human children, though they had similar demands. Instead they seemed to observe their environment with ravenous curiosity. They took in everything around them quickly, assimilating information at a stunning rate.

They were all slightly underweight for their age on the scales used for both humans and elves, but the information they had on necrontyr suggested that this was normal and healthy. They all had adopted mothers and fathers, elves the lot of them (despite the species' . Eventually they would take them home, but for now the children were under observation.

Frankly they were stunning in their mental progression, though physically they were not particularly impressive, co-ordinated, but with relatively slow reflexes. Some however, had begun attaching the correct terms to their parents already, less than six months after birth. Soon they would leave with them.

More importantly, this had proven that the project was a success, exceedingly detailed scans had indicated that there should be no health problems in their lives, the genofixation was by all standards a success. Already a far larger population was being planned, though the number of elves interested in adoption in the Empire was limited, and generally, they were preferred over other candidate species due to their longevity and somewhat similar genes.

Perhaps there was another location to find surrogate parents…

Chronosia watches, Chronosia Listens..
We have paid attention to your research program.
We are willing to take in these children, in exchange that we recieve details on the genetic engineering technology as it stands to date. Chronosia has need to...better itself.

OOC: Sorry, but it's not been publically announced, and as we don't know Chronosia, it's very unlikely that they'd be contacted.

((OOC: Odd. I thought I'd posted to this a while back. Never mind. I'm glad I archive these things now.))

The O'Neill cylinder orbited Mictlan at an altitude of 116 million kilometres, its population of hundreds of thousands of elves and necrontyr, many of the parents from Menelmacar, a majority in fact. That particular elven nation had been quite receptive to the idea, provided the children gained joint citizenship - which would be quite beneficial to Menelmacar in the long run - there was no reason why a good portion of them wouldn't move to Menelmacar when they became older.

Their education progressed at an impressive rate, even now, at the age of five, they were far more mature, physically and mentally than they should be. The original necrontyr had of course, lived short lives, and thus matured rapidly.

Soon enough, they would be adults, quite mature and stable mentally, physically and emotionally, and many would doubtless leave this place to pursue lives in their twin empires.
