Press Release; May 20th, 20??
Edölian Ministry of Information
In a startling turn of events, not predicted by outside observers, the Edölian Socialist Party (ESP) received the most votes in the general elections yesterday, toppling the formerly dominant Communist Party's rule. However, the Socialist Party's percentage was actually relatively low all considered with only 22.6% of the vote going to their party and even less going to allied coalition parties. Even with the Green Party's eleventh-hour decision to change sides and join with the Socialist Party coalition, the ESP coalition only managed to garner 43% of the popular vote. The Communist Party made an unusually low showing this time around, garnering only 15.2% of the vote, below the Socialist, Imperial and Red Flag parties. With this low showing the control of the ruling coalition went to the Imperial Party, headed by the Imperator's own daughter, Flavia von Blätterschplitt who will be sworn in as the country's new Chancellor in a ceremony in two weeks. Critics contend that the Imperator's daughter cannot possibly uphold the office of Chancellor as her connections to her father and her own position as heir to the Throne make it impossible for her to act as a proper Chancellor should, to counter-act the power of the Scarlet Throne. The Red Flag Party also made an extremely strong showing these elections, riding on the wave of anti-Allanean sentiment. Garnering 18.4% of the popular vote, it has risen from being a minor and relatively insignificant political force to being one of the nation's strongest parties. The Freedom Party, on the other hand, suffered badly from the tensions with Allanea, losing massive support and dropping to only 3.8%, making it the smallest of the "Big Seven" parties.

We will bring you more on the elections soon."

"Large demonstrations were seen across the country today as demonstrators took to the streets to protest the election of Princess Flavia von Blätterschplitt. Crowds of up to 100,000 were seen in some major cities with protestors decrying the consolidation of power by the Edolian Imperial Family. Said Chang Daming, noted social critic and Freedom Party activist, 'With Parlaiment controlled by the Imperial Family, how can we, the common people, expect to be treated fairly by the government? Unless something is done soon to combat this, we are going to see a return to the dark days before we gained democracy.'"

Edwardo Sanchez personally sends his congratulations via phone to the new Imperator Flavia von Blätterschplitt.

<<OOC: She's not Imperator. She's Chancellor. The Imperator is a hereditary position while the Chancellor is elected. She is however, also heir to the Throne.>>
